Every once and a while everything comes together. Our last visit to Bistro 73 in New Providence was such an occasion. We have been several times before and the food has always been good but this time every thing was just outstanding. The food, the service, the timing of the whole evening. Our party of six arrived at the time of our reservation and we were promptly seated. Our wine was opened and served immediately and water and bread followed soon after. We passed on appetizers as we wanted to save room for desert — it was a birthday that brought us out to dinner that evening. Between the six of us four different entrees were ordered. Every single plate went back to the kitchen clean. I had ordered the Seared Ahi Tuna and it was perfect. The combination of the tuna and sushi rice with the wasabi sauce and soy reduction works so well. When desert came the staff must have overheard us and took it upon themselves to acknowledge our birthday celebration, which was quite a nice surprise. The desserts were all delicious — I don’t think you could go wrong no matter what you ordered. We never felt rushed, our glasses were never empty and we lingered afterwards to finish our wine. The epitome of what a neighborhood bistro should be.

I went for dinner with my sister and her husband for the first time and were so surprised to find such a gem right next door. Very nice ambiance with contemporary settings and décor, and upscale service. Service was impeccable, professional, yet personable. The food, from appetizers to dessert were delicious! We will definitely return and am so happy we finally found a really good restaurant in the area.

Five star service, two star food, how to rate? On a quiet weeknight our waiter Tony was extremely personable and friendly, the kitchen sent our food out promptly, we could sit & chat as long as we liked, they brought complimentary sambuca for the table at the end — that all adds up to a fine place for a thoroughly relaxing adult dinner. But the quality-price situation at Bistro 73 is off kilter: basic salads are $ 10, the plates of pasta are $ 20 and entrees approach $ 30. Mostly Italian choices, plus a sprinkling of French as the name bistro suggests. Bread served to us was a focaccia and a multi-grain, neither of them warmed even a hint, only butter no olive oil. A Caesar salad starter was pulled straight from the refrigerator, the bowl was stone cold and the greens too, $ 10.50. We dared to ask about the price of the veal chop special, $ 35, but didn’t go there. I tried the seafood risotto, a modest portion of rather basic rice cooked with tomato sauce, 2 shrimp, 4 scrawny mussels, 4 small clams, some calamari rings and a wonderful sprig of rosemary; no creamy delicious rice, no scallops, most decidedly NOT a steal at $ 26. My dining companion got the steak frites, they knocked that one out of the park with perfect hot salty crispy fries and very tender beef in a wonderful pink sauce, I didn’t mind the $ 27 cost on that one. Their crème brûlée truly is wonderful but they ain’t giving it away at $ 9; a cappuccino tartufo was a generous portion, perfectly pleasant but not worth the calories. Vegetarian rating: 1 star, a total disaster if you’re trying to avoid animal protein, there are zero entrees at dinner. There’s a stuffed mushroom app and a chopped house salad, everything else has bacon or chicken or whatever, not kidding. Usually veggies do well at an Italian-like place but not here. Bring your parents here especially if they don’t care what anything costs, the room is quiet and gorgeous(except for the TV), but for great food in New Providence this wouldn’t be my recco. At least you can BYO.

One of the better Italian Restos in the area! Nice room, parking in the back, lots of menu choices, vegetarian options, great service! Went with a group of 6 on a Friday nite, place was packed and the 8pm reservations were waiting in line. It was too cold for the lovely patio, maybe next Spring! sea We all ordered apps and different mains, and everything was well prepared, nicely presented and delicious. Prices are reasonable and portions were large but not obscene. BYOB is Great! We will def. return!

Great atmosphere and food! A great local find! I came here twice in a day and enjoyed both meals. Would recommend the sushi pizza and the Bronzino.

I was traveling on business and staying in New Providence for 3 days. I had a lunch in this restaurant on my last day and that was the best impression out of the whole trip. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very pleasant, nice interior design, soft music! The staff was very welcoming and the food was great! That cheered me up before the long flight back!

Dined with friends inside on Thursday evening July 9. The staff was excellent and the menu had classics on it from their Bernardsville restr. that began it all back in the late 90’s, early 2000s. Short ribs, mussels, and risotto were all winners. The rest of the menu was pretty careful and basic. French onion soup in the middle of July was offered as an appetizer. A pasta dish served with pulled chicken was also found and to me are for the novice palate. The décor, table arrangements and outside patio were very nice and well done. I would do without the sports bar TVs all around the walls. It’s customary when the restaurant begins to close down for the evening to raise the lighting. Prompting the customers to have their last toast or take their last sip of coffee. However, on this particular rainy, stormy evening… the manager/owner/staff member opened the 2 back patio doors after 10pm and must have let a slew of mosquitos in post rain which began eating your feet under the table which prompted us to run out of there. We all felt them biting and the next day as well as 3 days later red, swollen welts still remain. I would have preferred the lighting to be adjusted. I will return back for those specific dishes I stated above and may very well bring a can of bug spray just in case.

We had been looking forward to trying this restaurant for months. Our friends are regulars here and we were finally able to coordinate a visit. We were forewarned that there was a new chef but the owners and staff were the same. We were quickly seated at our reservation time. Then, after waiting about 20 minutes and a glass of wine later, we were able to stop someone to get menus. After about another 20 minutes and flagging down a waiter, we finally ordered. The bread served was terrible. Reminded me of a toasted hamburger bun cut into slices. Our appys came out in about another 20 minutes. Unfortunately, only the soup came edible. The goat cheese tart was nicely split for 2, but obviously burnt. The risotto order came out as rigatoni. When the correct food came out it was good. Finally, our entrees came out 1 ½ hours after our arrival. My tuna was a nice sized portion, appropriately seared with very good flavor. I would have liked more sauce because it was excellent, but of limited quantity. The other 3 dishes were chicken. .saltimbocca and the chicken and peppers. Overall the food was good. The disappointment was in the prolonged duration of hunger with the poorly timed meal and the service which seemed to forget about us. As per our friends, the food just isn’t as good as with the former chef and the kitchen must have been poorly timing the food. We witnessed multiple other tables with the same problem.

Really nice BYOB. The décor is eclectic yet classy. It’s much bigger than I was expecting inside but on a Saturday night was very busy so you’ll definitely want to make a reservation. It was cold when I went there but there is a really nice outdoor patio out back which I can’t wait to enjoy during the summer! The service is very attentive and fast. They put our champagne(which we were saving for dessert) in the fridge for us and were good about replenishing water/wine during dinner. The food was delicious. The sushi pizza appetizer is really tasty and unique. It is the perfect size as to not make you too full before your entrée. I had the hanger steak salad which was very good, although I ordered my meat medium and it seemed more medium-rare to me. My friends who had the tuna entrée were raving about it! Desserts were nice. The Tres Leches cake was delicious. We also ordered the blueberry cobbler which comes warm with vanilla ice cream. The blueberries and ice cream were very good but we all thought it could have used a bit more cobbler. All in all, this place is very charming. Big and crowded yet not too loud. Everyone who works here is super friendly. I’ll definitely be back

Big disappointment! Made a reservation which we didn’t need for a Tuesday night dinner thinking it would be as crowded as the first time we went there with friends. Restaurant was nearly empty. When my GF told the waiter she was gluten free he told her she«could have the steak with no sauce» and that was about it. We asked about a meatball appetizer on the menu that she ordered last time(when she was told it was gluten free) and was informed by the waiter that she couldn’t have it because it had flour in it. We decided to finish our glass of wine and leave because of her limited meal options and the manager/owner came over with the menu and told her she could have anything«with a star next to it.» Only problem was… those were vegetarian dishes. This place needs to get its act together and figure out the difference between regularly prepared food, vegetarian and gluten free before someone with a food allergy dines there and inadvertently does some real harm to themselves. We thought it was going to be one of our new favorite restaurants but it will be a long time before we go back there-if ever! If you’re gluten free, watch out! This place can be dangerous to your health!

2 ½ stars for me. Maybe I ordered the wrong entrée on the menu but, this place was a bit of a let down in more ways than one. Went on a Tuesday evening, the restaurant was about quarter full. The interior is decorated nicely and you can tell they didn’t skimp on the budget when designing the place. The front entrance set up is a little weird being that it is very narrow. But they did a good job with the amount of space they had to work with. There are several flat screen televisions mounted on the walls throughout the restaurant which I thought was a bit odd. It would be different if they had a bar or served alcohol. After reading some of the other positive Unilocal reviews, I was expecting a little more in regards to the service. Our waiter pretty much had the personality of a wet mop. He had a difficult time showing an ounce of enthusiasm about the menu which kind of set the mood for the rest of the visit. My daughter was pretty much shot down when she asked for some tomato slices on her grilled cheese sandwich. The waiter basically had the look of bewilderment and responded he didn’t think he could do it(hahaha really guy?). We ordered the Maryland crab cake app which was decent. For my main entrée I ordered the chicken cutlet special with crispy prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and cherry pepper vinaigrette served over mashed potato. Sounded better than it actually tasted I guess. It was a little on the bland side lacking any flavor. The menu does have some interesting entrees to choose from including a «sushi pizza» appetizer. I will probably try Bistro Seven Three again when the weather breaks because they have a nice outdoor seating area in the rear of the restaurant. I also like the fact that it is a BYOB restaurant. I’m willing to try something else on the menu based on the many other positive reviews.

The restaurant is pleasant and calming in design. The wait staff is very kind and helpful. The food, however, lacked flavor and a ‘cheffy’ sort of touch one would expect at this price point. I ordered onion soup and a chicken dish from the daily specials list. The onion soup at River Grill in Chatham is clearly better this the one offered at Bistro 73 that night. My special chicken was little more than grilled chicken with red pepper and spinach offered with a side of pasty risotto which didn’t even have the ‘citrus’ flavor the menu promised. There was no sauce for the chicken whatsoever which, on top of all other comments, was a real let down. For Italian food at this price point I would rather go to Gregorio’s on Main Street in Chatham. I’m sure this group will get their act together in time however. The chef should eat at the two venues mentioned here.

We had the pleasure of having dinner at Bistro 73 this evening with our two children(ages 11 and 6). The meal was exceptional. Wonderful food and incredibly attentive staff. It’s so wonderful to finally have such a fantastic local restaurant. Two enthusiastic thumbs up. We will definitely be back! As for the particulars: kids both had linguine with meatballs. Delish(I tasted)! Pronounced too spicy by my 6 year old, so her brother ate her helping(unheard of — these children don’t eat). As we were staring in amazement at our son, the waiter quickly got our daughter a plate of penne with butter(note: no fewer than three people came to make sure my daughter was satisfied and had something good to eat — WOW). My husband and I shared the mozzarella appetizer(split in the kitchen and presented beautifully) and I had the short ribs and he had the hanger steak special. The food was perfectly prepared, perfectly spiced and beautifully plated. All highly recommended. I had coffee and passed on dessert but my son had the mini cannolis and raved about them. My husband enjoyed the tartufo and my daughter had a huge helping of vanilla gelato. Wonderful food, and wonderful service! Welcome to the neighborhood Bistro 73. We are thrilled you’re here!

We were there for dinner tonight, and it was a wonderful experience! This is one of a precious few restaurants in the area that is truly wheelchair accessible! It was already busy when we arrived for our 6PM reservation. We were greeted and seated immediately, at a table where people were not constantly knocking into the handles on my dad’s wheelchair. If you have not been out to dinner with someone in a wheelchair, you don’t appreciate what a big deal this is. The staff is great! Prompt, pleasant, knowledgable, hard-working. The staff are professionals who obviously take great pride in their work. The owners are on top of everything! They are personable and eager to please. It was so nice not to feel rushed. Dinner was served at a perfect pace — the timing was excellent. The staff were attentive without hovering. Now, let’s talk about the food. The fantastic food. We had a range of appetizers; mussels, Caesar salad, warm goat cheese tart, and the meatball fondue. All were excellent, although my meatballs could have been cooked a little more. But I think that’s a matter of taste. The goat cheese tart was a winner. My mom rarely finishes an appetizer, but she ate every bite of this one. For main courses we had tilapia, coq au vin, chicken scarpariello, and the cod special. The two fish eaters cleaned their plates! The 2 chicken eaters brought home doggy bags — very generous portions. I am a huge fan of hot spicy food, and the scarpariello was out of this world! Would definitely order this again and recommend it to anyone who likes hot peppers. Although we were too full for dessert, the menu was tempting and offered a great range of treats. By the time we left there were at least 20 people standing in line to get in. That said, make sure you have reservations, at least on Saturdays. The food and service are that good — people are willing to wait to get in. Thanks, Bistro Seven Three, we are delighted that you have come to New Providence! We wish you continued success. We’ll be back!

My wife, 7 y/o son, and I had dinner there last night and had a great experience. The servers were very attentive and friendly, and the food was excellent. We had grilled salmon, chicken with sausage and cherry peppers, and chicken fingers with fries(yes, kid friendly). My son appreciated the friendly servers, especially Abby. We will definitely be going back.

Welcome Bistro Seven Three to New Providence, NJ. I have visited the restaurant on two separate occasions for lunch since it’s grand opening last month. The service and attention to detail during each visit was top-notch. The the core menu and selection of specials was very good. Appetizers and Entrées were beautifully prepared and promptly delivered. The desserts were decadent and delicious. I am familiar with the Bistro Seven Three in Bernardsville and was anxious to try this latest new venture in New Providence. I believe Bistro Seven Three is off to a good start and will be a welcome addition to the dining choices in town. Best wishes and much success!
