Moondance Ridge B&B of New Paltz

Moondance was everything I expected and more. Beautiful setting, comfortable room, delicious breakfast and yummy home made baked goodies. And of course, the gracious hostess, Kathy, who made our stay comfortable and relaxing. Can’t wait to come back!

I had a terrific, restful time at Moondance. I stayed two evenings and each experience was better than the last. Kathy is a gracious hostess and an exceptional chef. The three course breakfasts were with a long slow rise while we watched the birds. Terrific beds, great whirlpool tubs, and I left relaxed and rejuvenated even though I was in town for a conference! Many thanks to Kathy and her staff for a wonderful weekend.

My boyfriend Mike recently surprised me with a weekend away to gorgeous New Paltz, New York. We stayed at the Moondance Ridge bed and breakfast and I could not be happier with our experience. We are a younger couple in our twenties so I was worried that the typical B&b atmosphere might be too stuffy for us — I was imagining dollies. Luckily a quick email to the innkeeper Kathy cleared things up. The inn is spotlessly clean, and has a great wifi signal throughout the space if you need to be connected to work like I do. Mike and I were also happy to find that our room came equipped with a Roku box hooked up to the inn’s Netflix account so we could wind down with some movies after a long day hiking in the nearby mohonk preserve.
Kathy offered us free passes to the preserve our first morning there, and it was the perfect thing to do after our delicious breakfast of pumpkin waffles and turkey sausages.
A weekend at Moondance ridge was just what we needed to get away from our busy Boston lives and was more than worth the trip. Make sure you say hi to Kathy’s wonderful pugs, and give them a pat for me if you have the chance to go! Our pup Emmitt, that we got to bring with us, misses them already!

a winner. built as a b&b to modern comfort standards. large comfortable room. great bed. huge whirlpool. beautifully decorated. excellent breakfasts. quiet. nice people.

We stayed at Moondance Ridge B+B of New Paltz, for our 33^rd wedding anniversary, spending three days and two nights in a very beautiful, very peaceful setting. It’s just minutes from the center of town but is set back quite a bit from the road and leaves you feeling that the town is far far away. I don’t know what is more beautiful: the gorgeous house and rooms, the several acres of garden, pond and woods the house is located on, the truly delicious breakfasts we were served, or the beautiful and warming spirit of our hostess, Kathy.
Crustless Swiss quiche? Baked peaches in a warm and succulent syrup? Pumpkin waffles drowned in local maple syrup? Hot baked apple chunks in a nutmeg cider? I think I’m in love. During breakfast a bird feeder provided a beautiful collection of winged creatures including warblers and cardinals as well as other species.
There are electric fireplaces in each room to go along with a two person jacuzzi, spacious and very comfortable beds, tv, netflicks, and an extensive video collection. We are outdoorsy types so we did not avail ourselves of the videos but they are there for a rainy day. Fifteen minutes drive is the Mohonk Mountain Resort where we hiked five miles before returning to a warm soak and a comfy bed. We need thank Kathy for the WhiteCliffs Merlot. That and some strawberries, crackers and cheeses from a local health store topped off a phenomenal day.
Honestly, I can’t say enough about this beautiful bed and breakfast and its wonderful hostess.

We stayed at Moondance Ridge for a weekend in early June 2014. A last minute family event brought us to New Paltz and we were surprised to find one room still available at this lovely B&B only 3 days prior to arrival. It’s conveniently located a few minutes from Main Street with easy access via back roads to avoid the usual traffic jam on 299 thru town. Innkeepers Kathy and Arnie were gracious, a wealth of information about the area, restaurants and recreation. The main dining room is lovely, spacious, beautifully decorated with private tables for each room (although I prefer the opportunity to sit and meet with other guests) the windows look out over the garden and bird feeders. A spectacular Breakfast was creatively planned and prepared with delicious fare, an abundance of food and a variety of drink choices. Kathy went out of her way to accommodate our vegetarian preferences as well. Including getting vegan muffins from the local bakery and preparing a tofu and veggie scramble with veggie sausage. Everything was delicious. The grounds are beautiful with plenty of outdoor seating areas and even a hammock. Our room, Moonlit Sky was warm, welcoming, plush and has every amenity one could ask for… A whirlpool tub complete with aromatherapy pods, a fireplace, TV with pandora and Netflix, a couch and sitting area, an in room fridge with water, electric candles and plush linens and extremely comfortable bed. This is by far one of the nicest B & B’s we have ever stayed at. Kathy even leaves snacks in the dining room when we came in late and were slightly hungry, found home baked brownies and farm fresh strawberries waiting for us.
We will definitely be back! You won’t be disappointed.

This was our first time staying in a bed and breakfast and we were not disappointed! We stayed here for Valentine’s day weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The food was EXCELLENT! We were in the Dreamcatcher room and it truly felt like home away from home. We will definitely come back!

Room: We stayed in the Starry Night Suite and it was simply amazing! After getting there we were debating between this room and the Moonshadow Suite because both were available. After literally 20 minutes of walking back and forth, we settled with the Starry Night because it had the bigger couch and the room was slightly bigger too. We were quite impressed with how clean our room was. There wasn’t a spot of dust in site! The fireplace was also a nice comfortable touch.
Bathroom: The large bathroom was also extremely clean and had all the amentities like towels, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, etc. It was also a nice touch to have complimentary aromatherapy bath soap to use in the hot tub.
Service: The owner is extremely friendly and makes a great delicious breakfast :)
Overall: This was my first time staying at a B&B and I was extremely apprehensive. However, after staying at Moondance, I think my expectations have exceeded what a «normal» B&B is. This cute little spot was modern, comfortable and most importantly clean. I also loved the welcome strawberry covered in chocolate that was laid out in the dining room for guests. Highly recommended.

The Mrs and I just spent an amazing weekend in the Moondance Suite to celebrate our 7^th wedding anniversary. Although there are a good amount of reviews, we still had concerns since neither of us has stayed at a B&B before. None of the reviews, at least not the ones I’ve read, goes into detail of how the room is and the pictures on the site doesn’t paint a clear picture.
We arrived at around 6:30pm on a Fri night and before we reached the front door, Kathy came out to welcome us. After a brief tour of the house, we headed towards our room on the 2^nd floor. Even though all three 2^nd floor rooms were in close proximity of one another, our room was secluded and did not share any walls with the other rooms. The bathroom and sitting area shares a wall with Kathy’s residence which is the other part of the house. The other three walls shared with the stairs, the balcony and the windows. Aside from breakfast, we didn’t see or hear any of the other guests. Though we can hear the front door beep when the code is being entered and occasional footsteps when the room is totally silent.
As for the room itself, it is rectangular in shape. With about half of it being the bedroom portion and the other half split in half perpendicularly for the bathroom and sitting area. It is tastefully and luxuriously decorated with matching real dark wood furniture consisting of a king size bed, a large vanity table and two night stands with lamps. The sitting area consisted of a lamp, side table, leather love-​seat and electric fireplace with a TV on top of the mantle. The bathroom has a two person jacuzzi tub, a separate standing shower, a glass bowl sink and toilet. Next to the bed is a door to a balcony that overlooks the dining area. We didn’t think much of this but when we ate lunch out there one afternoon, we found it surprising relaxing and comfortable. Though my wife did comment on how if this was our room, she would turn it into a walk in closet. There is also a mini fridge in the closet. My only gripe with the room is the small TV (19″ maybe). We decided to stay in one night and catch a movie but the tiny screen made it less enjoyable.
The two breakfasts we had were both enjoyable. The first breakfast we had consisted of baked apples, blueberry muffins and quiche with turkey bacon. We’re not fans of cooked fruits and didn’t think much of the apples. The blueberry muffin was really good. It was soft and fluffy and not overly sweet. The quiche was the best we’ve ever had. Kathy informed us that there’s only about 1 egg per serving and each serving is ¼ of the pan (8″ pan I’m guessing). The edges has a nice chewy burnt cheese kind of taste and the middle was light, fluffy and cheesy. The turkey bacon were very crispy and actually tasted like bacon, though I definitely prefer real pork bacon, these were a nice healthier substitute. The second breakfast consisted of poached pears, cherry scones, and pumpkin waffles with turkey sausage. Again, didn’t care for the fruit but I ate it along with the accompanied yogurt. The scones were even better than the muffins. So good in fact, my wife asked for seconds. The pumpkin waffles and turkey sausage were pretty pedestrian but the local maple syrup was good. Their brewed coffee is also really good.
Other things of note: There is a small fridge filled with soda and water next to the coffee (Keurig system) and tea station. Kathy also provides freshly baked treats as well as other snacks. There is a large DVD collection as well as books in the common area. We had a strong wifi signal throughout the house whenever we used it. The sign to the inn is pretty tiny and can easily be missed during the night.
Overall, our stay was really relaxing and enjoyable. Kathy and her family were all wonderful and engaging. We definitely recommend anyone looking for a weekend getaway to give Moondance a shot.

I’m a big fan of the Moondance. The house sits on several acres of wooded land complete with a pond full of frogs. The sky was full of shooting stars (your experience may vary). Kathy the owner, and Foo 2 (the resident pug) were both extremely nice. Country breakfast was amazing. We’ll come back for another stay at the first chance.
