I’ve always had pleasant, efficient, informative experiences here. Good staff picks with descriptions, cordial service, descent selection. I’m surprised by the negative reviews.

Do NOT go in with a new New York State Drivers License. They are not familiar with it and will turn you down, even if you are well over 21.
I’ve had good experiences here until my wife was turned down somewhat rudely by the staff. They are professionals and checking IDs is part of their job. That being the case you would think they would know what a Driver’s License from their own state looks like.
It really is a shame because I’ve had good experiences here, but when you mess up you mess up. They messed up.

I’ve seen a few in my time, and I can’t recall a more attractive looking wine store.
Selection is pretty good (better on wine than spirits maybe) and prices are fair. Not super cheap, but I haven’t yet found a place that is…
But I don’t know what that other reviewer is talking about, because what keeps me coming back is this place’s staff. I think I’ve interacted with everyone who works there at one point or another in recent times and I’ve been very impressed. Besides being friendly, they seem to know their stuff and always seem happy to point out new things. Maybe you’ve gotta be friendly to receive friendly? Who knows…
The other stores in town are fine, but if you shop at the Stop and Shop already I can’t imagine why you’d go anywhere else.

Just dropped in to pick up a bottle of wine real quick as we were in the Stop and Shop parking lot.
Never mind that a bottle of wine that costs $ 9.99 at The Merchant in Kingston or $ 11.99 at New Paltz Wine and Spirits… goes for $ 15.99 @ Fox & Hound Wine & Spirits.
The kid working the register didn’t acknowledge me as I walked up to the counter to check out. He scanned the bottle, said «$ 15.99», swiped my card and that the extent of what he said. No «hello,» «thank you» «good-bye»…seriously?
The store was empty. The kid wasn’t doing anything.

I recently came to this store for the first time, and was immediately impressed not just by the selection but by how attractive it is in inside. It uses very pretty dark wood moldings and flooring which gives a nice warm feeling to it. It was also decorated for halloween in a very fun way. I’m a fan of the bubbly, so I basically meandered straight to that section, and was very happy with the wide selection available. I was able to buy a Spanish cava that I’ve never tried before and it was very nice. Prices were average, no more or less than I’ve seen in the area. I would definetely recommend checking it out.
