Great place.

From novice to avid cyclist, this little shop has you covered. They carry a good selection of road, mountain and hybrid bikes. They also offer repair and rental services.
Everyone working here is super friendly and knows bikes. That is great for customers of all kinds. We came in to rent bikes and they got us set up and on the trail very quickly. The Specialized mountain bikes ($ 40 for the day) are far from antiques and are in great condition. We just walked in and rented bikes on a summer Sunday, but they do take reservations. Since that a risk with no additional reward… I say book a bike in advance if you know when you plan to ride.
They are conveniently located on Main Street and have parking. The shop is 20 feet from the Rail Trail which also makes it a great spot to pick up a bike.

I’ve been going here for 10 years. If I was to use just a few words to describe them they’d be: integrity, professional, friendly. I had a problem once out on the road, I called the shop and they helped me fix it! Thank you.

I own a 2012 Redline conquest carbon pro.
Took my bike here to get a tune up and some adjustments on my dérailleur. Was greeted by a kid who didn’t know what he was doing (was apparently his first day so I understand that ever one needs to learn). The kid put my bike up on the rack and said everything was fine. He then passed me off to someone else who said they would look at it and the return time frame would be two weeks. I left feeling VERY UNCOMFORTABLE.
The next day they told me my drive train was shot and my front gears needed replacing. My bike is less than two years old with less than 1000 miles. I immediately went and got my bike and took it to Buffalo (where I just moved from a year ago) and had my dealer look at it. Nothing was wrong with my bike. My front dérailleur needed adjusting. The wearing on the chain was less than ½ of a percent. The drive train system was fine. DON’T TAKE YOUR BIKE HERE. I ‘ll be making the drive back to Buffalo from now on.

These guys are great! We always rent bikes from Bicycle Depot and ride the rail trail and area. Their bikes are perfect! We usually rent the mountain bikes with front shocks, fat tires, but I think they have a variety of other bikes too and sales. And they don’t nitpick if you’re 1 minute late returning them.

If you need an expert mechanic to work on your bicycle, head to the Bicycle Depot in New Paltz. Jeff dropped what he was doing and tended to a mechanical problem we were having. He was very professional and is an excellent mechanic. A very knowledgeable and friendly staff!

My friend and I were planning a bike ride in the New Paltz area for a long while. My friend called in advance and asked to book a bike. He was told there was no need, just to come and rent it. When we arrived, mind you we are not local to the area, the guys at the store informed us that a group came by and rented all the bikes. They completely waved us off. VERY poor approach. I would not recommend them to anyone. This is not a way to provide service.

I love these guys. When my back wheel stopped gliding, they figured out the problem, solved it, took the initiative to improve the shifting and got it all done in less than an hour even though I was a late afternoon walk in. Since my next day ride was a tough (for me) 60 miles, I spent at least half of it marveling at the bike’s performance and thanking Bicycle Depot over and over in my mind.
They also charged less than they should. I tried to give them more — they wouldn’t take it. Karma. Well, based on karma, I hope every good thing happens to them.
Use them. You’ll be lucky you did and overjoyed with the results.

I have purchased 2 bikes, thule racks, and tons of small gear for riding both road and mt. and Mike and Jeff are truly great people. They will help you as much as you need and always do it with a smile… Definitely a great place for riding gear.

Great place to rent a mountain bike! New Paltz has a rail trail running right by the shop, but even better, the dirt roads of the Mohonk Trust are a short ride up the road. These roads run for many miles along the Shawangunk escarpment, offering accessible and very fun cross-​country riding.
The shop rents low-​end but perfectly capable mountain bikes well suited for the terrain, and provides great directions and advice. A worthy destination if you have a few hours to a day in the area.

Just bought a bike from these guys & they were GREAT. I hadn’t ridden in over 20 yrs & they were really cool about it. They were also less expensive than the other places I shopped.
Answered all my questions, no up-​sale pressure. They listened to what I wanted & found a match. And they discounted the accessories I got: Thule car rack was disc’d 10%, knocked 20% of the helmet. Installed the rack for me on the rear end of my car & showed me how to do it too.
Place is also located very close to the NP rail trail, PERFECT place for a test ride. Take your time, they seem to want you to.

Drove close to an hour to get to this place just to get my bike diagnosed and treated.
Schwinn is now cured and in remission.

Great bike shop. They are knowledgeable and modest, and seemed to have everything I was looking for.
I came in with dérailleur issues and the guys stopped what they were doing and helped me get on my way. I’m sure that on a busier day they wouldn’t be able to do that, but it spoke to the dedication and knowledgeability of their team.

Staff was friendly and ready to assist. However, the deal breaker was that they only carried one specific name brand of bicycle, rather than a variety. Would definitely purchase a new bike from this place one day. Cute, small, and trendy! Love it!

The guys at BD are a friendly and professional group of people who always take the time to listen to your issue and do not try to up sell you on anything.
I have had have services and minor repairs done here and they have always been completed quickly and correctly, they keep you informed and provide great value for money.

Excellent service, truly exemplary. Above and beyond.
My girlfriend and I were visiting New Paltz for some riding and stopped in to check out the shop after a 40 mile ride up and down the mountains. The staff helped me out by recommending a more comfortable saddle, and Mike, the owner, offered to let me try it and return it if it didn’t solve the soreness problem. That’s right, they didn’t just say «buy this pricey component because the company’s marketing team said it’s good, and if you don’t like it, not my problem!» Instead they actually stand behind their recommendation.
As if that weren’t enough, I then noticed a pair of Paul Racer brakes in a case. It turned out that a customer had requested them and then decided against them for a new build — and Mike offered me an absolutely screaming deal on them. Now I can take advantage of my road bike’s wide tire clearance and try cyclocross this season, without having to invest in a new frame.
And that’s not all. A few weeks later, I found that while the saddle they’d recommended had indeed solved the issue I’d asked them for help with, it still wasnt the perfect one for me. Even though I’d long since left town, they nevertheless let me return the saddle via the mail for a full refund! the fact that Mike and the crew there offered me such excellent customer service even though I don’t live anywhere near New Paltz is, I think, a sign that care and respect for their customers is simply the way they do things.
Can’t recommend them highly enough.
