I got mad love for this bar. My roommate and I checked out Verret’s fairly soon after we moved to the neighborhood, and it did not disappoint. Two years later, it’s my go-to bar around the corner. The bartenders are friendly and fun, as are the fellow patrons. There’s always an interesting mix of folks hanging out there, which I appreciate. The drinks are stiff but reasonably priced — a winning combo, in my opinion. The atmosphere is funky and divey, without being gross. There’s a spacious patio in the back, with fans in the summer and heaters in the winter(which I like, since I turn into the occasional chain-smoker when I drink). Whether you’re a local in search of your next neighborhood hangout or a tourist looking to grab a drink somewhere off the beaten path, Verret’s is your place.

Coming to this bar was by far one of the best experiences during our trip to New Orleans. The environment is friendly, with a tiny but cozy bar and a big patio on the back. We were lucky enough to enjoy an AMAZING jazz concert that ended up with the bartender singing on the stage. She literally sings like an angel. Completely recommended.

My coworkers love the bar. But I can’t do it. Decent back patio, but have yet to have a cold beer(only been 5 or 6 times). The beers aren’t hot, but they are not cold by any means.

EVERYWEDNESDAY! Have you been to Verret’s on a Wednesday? You should really go on a Wednesday. Check out Cool Nasty and the MC who never fails to remind you that they’re there EVERYWEDNESDAY! Excellent live music – jazzy, funky, call out a song and they’ll play it. Wanna sing/rap/dance? Just hit the floor and join in. This place takes open mic night to another level. Wonderful little Central City dive bar; the kind of place where everyone knows each other and newcomers are welcomed like they’ve been going for years. Drinks are cheeeappp, back patio is lit, and Dina the bartender is the nicest person you’ll ever meet with the voice of an angel.

So let me begin by saying I’m not a blogger nor a Unilocaler. But I feel this place needs to be placed on Front Street. The place has that definite vintage feel, but it has a lot to be desired. We rang the bell to the door and where reluctantly let in, the bartender(Rick or Rich) was going off on how some Native Americans didn’t tip him and that he would let me and my mate in if we were good tippers. We thought ok we can handle this, since the bartender seemed a little sauced. We get in and get up to the bar and order a round of drinks, the place smells like a mix of a dirty cat litter and dirty socks. As we sit there talking we notice the bartender and his friend, who is either the owner or a manager drinking and trying to come on to every girl in the bar. My friend and I are laughing at how drunk the bartender is getting why the owner or manager is trying to score. I know its New Orleans and cockroaches are normal, but when they are crawling up to you with no fear, I get a little leery. The bartender is bragging to us about how some guy was shot over a drug deal, right next to where the owner or manager was standing. And how coke is rampant through the place, I’m thinking to myself why would he be sharing this with us? Then he proceeds to tell us about the alligator buried out back that some, drugged out bar patron burnt and killed by putting the thing in boiling water. I mean really? I ask my mate if this is really happening and I get a strong YES. Then he points to the idiot that killed the poor alligator, telling us the guys a heroine junky. Nice one bartender, I see you got your patrons back. Maybe we went on an off night but I definitely will not be going back. There are better places within walking distance, better attitudes and service. Yes it’s a dive bar I get it, but it’s a dive bar lacking real genuine character. I don’t like my bartenders and owner/managers drunker than me.

My friend and I are visiting from Memphis, and decided to hit a neighborhood bar in the Garden District. The bar was very nice and everyone knew each other, but they made us tourists feel right at home. I would definitely suggest going there if you are on the area. The staff was awesome, and the drinks were great. We had both Woody and Ed as our bartenders, and they kept us entertained, and our glasses full.

Something really homey and N’awlins about this place. Strong neighborhood divebar with a friendly easy going and eclectic set of folks, good bartenders, and good specials. Cool as hell because it isn’t even trying to be. Great place to take the edge off when you need to unwind.

One of those hidden gem type neighborhood dives. Really nice covered patio out back. I hear it’s a really good spot for a Saints game. Just a block or so from St. Charles but feels miles and years away.

A great example of what happens when people of color give up/lose a great location to corny«hipsters» . This place has a few decent workers; but absolutely lame. It’s like being in St. Rose. The old place had a good juke box. Now everyone tries to hustle dopey post-Katrina business ideas or chats about«the lack of Theatre» in our town. Not worth any time at all. Plantation Atmosphere. Central City belongs to Central City. Don’t take my Funk away! I’ll walk to Parasolls.

This bar has some good seating and a nice cushioned bar so you can’t bang your knees and hurt yourself due to any drinking accidents. The bartender that served me was one I recognized as he used to used to work at Snake and Jake’s so that was a bonus. They have a decent number of TVs so that makes this a good spot to watch sports. Definitely a nice retro dive bar full of New Orleans uniqueness. I did think the beer would be cheaper due to its location and they didn’t have any specials going on during my last visit but its still gotten very popular with folks in the neighborhood.

Did I step into the past? In this location, will it last? The sign suggests a 50’s joint. The vibe inside won’t disappoint. Tablecloths. Table lamps. Tables set for vintage tramps. Fairly priced with fare on menu. Barely patroned, sure to win you. Classy, sassy, right on tune. The patio is coming soon.

Before buying my house in the quiet countryside of Lakeview, I lived a block up from this bar and it was called The Turning Point. Sketchy and loud is what I knew it as. When my friends suggested trying this bar as a potential Uptown regular spot, I was leery to say the least. We walked in around 9pm on a Sunday night and there were only two other patrons but the place looked great! Red sparkly old-school vinyl everywhere, lots of tables and chairs, a decent stocked bar, Stella on tap, and Bullett Old Fashioneds are $ 6?! My group and I were grinning from ear to ear very shortly after arrival. The bartender was great and made us feel very welcome from the moment we entered. He showed us the back patio which was setup similar to a beer garden with tall wooden tables and lights strung across the space. Overall the new management/owners of this spot have made a very cool hangout for this neighborhood. They have live music on some nights as well as food specials such as Taco Tuesdays and game day specials(bucket of domestics for $ 10). Good drink prices and very cool ambience will make this a regular spot for the gang. I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a cool new spot in the Garden District that is not your typical bar(no offense GDP).

An absolute gem. The best ambiance of any neighborhood bar that I’ve been to in the city. There’s 50s red vinyl everywhere. The lighting is perfect. I will also vouch for the Sunday night bartender. My friends and I enjoyed the place so much that we debated withholding reviews, so we could keep the place to ourselves. Given that we were the only people in the bar for most of the night, we figured it could accomodate a few more people and still meet our needs.
