History
Established in 2010.
SukhoThai began with our Marigny location in 2003. We thank the New Orleans community for supporting us over the years, and we are excited to bring to you our new Uptown location. We specialize in the traditional cuisine of Thailand. We strive to bring you the unique flavors that we love so much from the Kingdom of Siam, and we hope you’ll let us know what you enjoy, as well as we can improve your experience. Thank you.
Soo-ko-tai
Meaning ‘Dawn of Happiness,’ is a word that stirs the imagination of the Thai people. Another meaning could be ‘Dawn of the Kingdom of Thailand,’ as Sukhothai was the first free Thai city, founded in 1238 A.D., after two Thai chieftans liberated the city from Khmer rule. Sukhothai thus became the seat of the first Siamese Kingdom, and the center point of an era of material prosperity, artistic greatness, and cultural development known today at the ‘Golden Age’ of Thai history.
Meet the Business Owner
Supreeya S.
Business Owner
Supreeya is a native of Bangkok, Thailand. She opened SukhoThai with her husband, a native New Orleanian, in 2003. Supreeya’s goal is to share the true flavors and healthy cuisine of Thailand, including the wonderful spices, with the New Orleans community and beyond. She feels it is very important to use the finest locally available ingredients, including the best available seafood and produce, combined with spices and other base ingredients imported directly from Thailand. She can often be found in the restaurant’s large organic herb gardens, tending to Thai basil, lemongrass, mint, papaya, and eggplants that we grow for SukhoThai. We look forward to your visit with us.
