At the St. James Cheese Company, our mission is to offer our customers as wide a selection of perfectly ripe cheeses as possible in a friendly environment that will entice both a novice and veteran cheese lover. Our primary focus is on artisanal cheese and we emphasize both outstanding domestic farmhouse cheeses as well as carefully selected European and international varieties. Quality ultimately determines which cheeses we carry at any time.
In addition to amazing cheese, we also carry a terrific variety of cured meats which we produce ourselves in house and source internationally, domestically and locally.
And don’t forget about our café, serving creative and fromage-centric sandwiches, salads and specials 7 days a week.
History
Established in 2006.
The St. James Cheese Company opened in November 2006 at 5004 Prytania Street in the Uptown neighborhood of New Orleans. The name of the business is inspired by the St. James neighborhood in London where Richard ran the venerable 200-year-old cheese shop Paxton & Whitfield.

Business Owner
Richard and Danielle Sutton, with their son Finn in tow, moved back to New Orleans after a 10-year absence in June 2006 from London. Running a 200-year-old cheese shop called Paxton & Whitfield gave Richard the idea of opening his own shop in the US, and knowing the passion for food in New Orleans, he decided to open up the St. James Cheese Company where it has become a local favorite.
