Royal St. Charles Hotel

Great location. Walking distance to the Quarter and CBD. We were able to pre check in and they called us when a room was ready. We’re able to check in an hour early free of charge. (This wasn’t a guarantee, but happy it worked out). Room was clean and neat. Not huge, but very reasonable for the price. Definitely not just a closet hotel room. Women at the front desk) who I wish I got her name tag) was more than polite. The family pre-​checking in that was in front of us were a customer service nightmare. They just couldn’t understand incidentals and the pre-​check in system. We waited close to 15 minutes to pre-​check in. When we got to the front desk, the women apologized for our wait, but never said a bad word about the family. I may have a made a joke about them though. Other employee I was impressed by was a valet driver? Security? He was a male employee. There was a drunk passed out college kid by the front door. He tried for an appropriate amount of time to move the kid along while making sure the guests felt safe.
Would recommend to those visiting who are looking for a clean place to sleep with experiencing New Orleans.

I LOVE this hotel. The staff were courteous, helpful and extremely friendly. While they charge 35.00 a day for valet, I had my car in under 20 minutes. Since I paid 12.00 for parking for 4 hours on the street, the 35.00 seems reasonable. They even pointed us to an amazing, hole-​in-​the-​wall breakfast joint right around the corner.
The rooms were exceptionally clean and well taken care of. My husband and I will be back.

The staff at the Royal St. Charles was so great and friendly! The hotel is in the perfect location and has a really fun aesthetic in the lobby while having a well decorated and classy rooms. Love the 24 hour fitness center tucked away on a quiet floor. The beds were comfy and my bathroom was very spacious. PJ’s café in the lobby will bring coffee and breakfast sandwiches right to your room, and the hotel front desk even has margaritas on tap! (First time I’ve ever seen that.) Great experience all around!

We stayed for five nights over New Years. Considering we were fighting for space with the Sugar Bowl crowd, I was pretty happy overall.
Pros:
— Relatively inexpensive
— Extremely close to Bourbon Street (a huge plus). It’s just across Canal and one small block down. We were within easy walking distance to all of the street cars and all of the major restaurants. (PROTIP: Don’t bring a car unless you absolutely need it)
— Friendly staff and concierge.
— PJ’s Coffee shop in the lobby. There’s a Starbucks on the other side of the block too, but if you don’t want to wait in a 30 minute line for that PJ’s is a great substitute.
— Room was fairly large and on the corner of the hotel. Walls were thick enough to block out most sound.
— Heating and AC functioned well.
Cons:
— It’s pretty bare-​bones as far as a hotel goes. If you’re expecting amenities (pool, spa, etc.) you’re going to be disappointed. There is no refrigerator in the room, so keep that in mind when you book this place. This place was fine on the essentials, but didn’t go above and beyond in any category. (Note: There is a free safe in the room if you need it.)
— White sheets, white bed cover, white pillows. I think this is a first for me and seems like a horrible idea. I would hate to see the rooms of anyone with kids. We try to be clean, but even I was super paranoid about eating anything in the room.
— ¼th of our room was taken up by a hallway. We open the door, walk down a hallway the length of the room, then end up in the room. Just be aware that the square footage they advertise for premium rooms might include this hallway, and thus be a lot smaller than you expect.
— Door to the bathroom opens in, not out. This means in order to close the door you have to snuggle up to the toilet and/​or sink counter, and same thing when you reopen it.
We’re fairly low-​maintenance when it comes to traveling and hotels, so this place worked out well for us. But it’s far from the best experience we’ve had in a hotel. It met all of our basic needs perfectly, and the location could not have been better, but if this weren’t so centrally located I would be much less enthusiastic about returning.

Fabulous location within walking distance of all the hot spots, and right on the trolley line. The rooms are small, but clean and adequate. Our room had a window, technically, but it was glass blocks which made for a dark room. Good for sleeping but not good if you like fresh air. The bathroom was tiny — no counter space. If you’re not planning to spend a lot of time in your room, I’d recommend this hotel for it’s location and reasonable prices.

Cierra was fantastic! Valets were very helpful. Rooms kind of on the small side but your in NOLA so basically your just there to sleep right! Very conveniently located to everything… would definitely stay here again

Absolute worst hotel experience since that time in Portland without AC. Two things. 1. If you are going to charge $ 35 a day for valet, and you are going to promise cars in twenty minutes, bringing the wrong car after a 45 minute wait, and then two days later taking 45 min to bring a car without waiving fees is unacceptable. I am on a business trip and your inability to do your job caused me to be late for mine. 2. If you are going to force me to pay $ 11/​night for internet (even when I insist I do not want to pay the fee or use your service) I should be able to load GMail in under five minutes. I was unable to do very basic things like browse clothing sites, and Hulu basically laughed at me, buffering for ten minutes before I switched to my cell phone hot spot.
The worst part? The staff’s «We don’t care, we stay busy year round no matter how awful we treat guests because we are right off Canal!» attitude. I was told by parking that, «These things happen.» As nonchalant as he was, that should be a disclaimer.
Save your money, go to Best Western where the staff has to care.

First off — the Royal St Charles is in a GREAT location. It’s on a safe street with amazing delis located on the block. The woman at the front desk suggested «Daisy Dukes» for delicious (& appropriately priced) food. The alligator po’ boys there were amazing! The hotel is also within walking distance to Bourbon Street — which is always a fun time!
There is a $ 20/​day parking fee, but we were able to find safe street parking (we did a lot of driving around New Orleans during the day, so it was a good deal for us) — however, those intending to walk a lot should definitely pay the hotel’s parking fee (it’s cheaper /​safer than all day street parking).
The front desk was also great — the busboys were so helpful in loading/​unloading our musicial equipment and everyone had wonderful recommendations on places to visit.
The room itself was okay — a little smaller and there is a plastic sheet on the bed which threw us off, but it was very clean, comfortable, and quiet! The main reason someone should choose this hotel is the phenomenal customer service and location. We would 100% stay here again on our next visit!

Reasonably priced and centrally located Canal St and the french quarter. The room was clean and they let us check in early and check out late. Friendly staff. Perfect for a quick stay! Love this city.

A jew and a black guy returned to the Royal St Charles for our 2^nd stay. They upgraded us to the biggest suite in the place. Like royalty we felt at home like gypsies in the palace with a terrace that was bigger tr Han the room and overlooked the French Quarter. The staff was brilliant the parking was awesome we highly recommend this property and urge you comic or civilian alike to book it now.

This was my first visit in New Orlean, LA and I couldn’t have picked a better place to stay. The locations was perfect, not to close to the lovely chaos and not too far either. It was myself and 5 of my girlfriends staying for 1 night before the departure of our cruise for my birthday. We booked two rooms via a great Groupon promotion. This hotel was about a 20 min drive from the airport — doesn’t get better than that! We arrived nice and early and although we were unable to check in early the staff was very welcoming and held our luggages until check in time.
Bourbon Street was literally minutes away from the hotel and there were great restaurants and other distractions along the the way and all within walking distance. For the short stay there were no need for cabs from and to the hotel, even with our long night.
The room was perfectly sized for 3 even 4 if you want to accommodate. Bathroom was clean and had the necessary toiletries. The room temperature was nice a cozy for the hot weather outside. One bad thing about the rooms — the walls are paper thin! We heard everything our neighbors were up to. I tried to rest up before dinner and the people next door were having some sort of pow-​wow and it felt like they were in the room with us.
I needed a shower cap and called room service and they quickly provided me with it.
The staff was really friendly and helpful with suggestions.
I know my stay was short, but the hotel made it worthwhile! Would definitely return.

My one night at Royal St. Charles Hotel was just what I needed when arriving late in New Olreans. April, Britney and Errin made every effor to make sure that my stay was as comfortable as can be, and lets just say I’m not always the easiest to accomodate when it comes to hotels! They moved me to a room of my liking within minutes when I did not find the television working in the first room they had put me in upon checking in due to Cox cable failing to send a technician to fix a problem on two of the floors cable reception. This was a great value and I slept like a baby in the comfortable king sized bed with cool air and warm blankets. I would definitely recommend this ideally situated hotel if you want to explore the shops and attractions of the French Quarter but have a little peace and quiet too.

Should have heeded the warnings of the comments on Unilocal.The stay was fine — friendly enough staff. With the exception of a dirty, used tissue that had not been picked up from the previous occupant, the room was clean enough.
The noise level however, was intolerable. Paper thin walls lead to the ability to hear ENTIRE conversations — worse yet was the bachelorette party that was next door. Loud all night long, including a party member running down the hallway banging loudly on everyone’s doors. Not a happy camper when this was my last night in New Orleans and needed some sleep.
Would not recommend. While this was directly in the center of town, there are plenty of other locations downtown to choose from.

No major complaints about the hotel. The accommodations were nice. The price was decent. Overall it was clean and comfortable. The location is great. Especially since the St Charles streetcar picks up right out front. Only thing we didn’t like was the incredibly thin duvet cover. Not plush at all. All in all it was a good stay and for $ 400 for 3 nights in New Orleans this was a great deal.

I just left the Royal St. Charles after my second stay. This time was for 6 nights because of a Navy Reunion. We could not have been treated better if it was the Ritz!
First, I was in charge of the reunion and when I got to my room with ALL of the junk I had to bring for the trip, the
room just wasn’t large enough. Seriously, I had to arrange flowers, had an 8′ banner, etc. I called downstairs and they moved me to a corner suite immediately. They were wonderful!
The steward for our hospitality room was amazing and took care of every need for our Veteran’s. He was kind and seemed to anticipate my thoughts without me speaking.
There is a nice coffee shop in the lobby, a great concierge, the St. Charles streetcar stop out front, 1 block from Canal St. and the start of the French Quarter so even though the hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, there are a hundred within blocks!
What more can you ask for???

The rooms are small and compact, but the location could not be better! We were right across the street from the French Quarter and Bourbon street, so we were able to walk to all the sites and get some great food all within a 5 – 10 min walk. The hotel was quiet and we slept well. Only complaint, the door to our room was super heavy and it wasn’t closing all the way, a few nights we slept with the door a jar. :(

I feel on the fence about giving this spot a 3 but there are just some things I can’t get over…
Pros: perfectly located, friendly accommodating staff, coffee shop on site, trolley stops in front of hotel… All a plus
Cons: I have NEVER stayed at a HOTEL that had plastic sheets (wth), the hotel is freezing (thanks but no thanks), the coffee is warm not hot and the turn down service was slightly obnoxious… If you don’t want service the knock and knock and knock till u answer the door and sign off on not wanting service and the icing on the cake if you don’t force your door shut hard it doesn’t shut… We slept with the door open all 3 nights.

No issues at all staying here! If you’re looking for a very cool & convenient place to stay in NOLA, this is it! The front desk girls were sweet, Valet service was great and rooms were clean! Good vibes, good service and good times!

We honeymooned in this hotel for 3 nights.
My first impression of the lobby was that it was over the top — the color changing front desk was much. The lobby has a coffee shop, which meant ample seating when our room wasn’t ready when we arrived early on the first day of our reservation and the heat of the day was much. Hurricanes and margaritas are served on tap at the front desk for $ 6 each (not sure how big they are — I passed).
We sat and had a cold drink and shortly after, our room was ready. I was checking in on my birthday and since we were honeymooning, I thought it couldn’t hurt to ask for a free upgrade (nope, lol).
We checked into a single queen sized room which was exactly what we booked. It was a tight squeeze, but the bed was comfortable and it was nice and cool. The room does not have a refrigerator or a microwave or any eating utensils (but you can access microwave and plastic ware downstairs at the coffee bar). We didn’t sleep well in the tiny bed (we are used to a kind bed at home) but not for lack of comfort.
The following morning we had to check out of that reservation and into another (our nights at the hotel were booked via Groupon by separate people). We were promised at check-​in that we could stay in the same room, but we ended up having to move because apparently the 3^rd floor is undergoing reservations. You have to pay the $ 10 resort fee up front so I paid cash and left my debit card on file (no authorization on it) for incidentals. We ended up getting upgraded when we got our new room — and king size on the 7^th floor (our first room was on the 3^rd floor). The new room was significantly bigger while still small but it had a wall to wall window looking into the business district which was nice to wake up and look out to.
Self-​parking is up the street (a quick walk) and $ 20 per night. Valet is also available for significantly more. I’ve seen conflicting reports about the price of parking ($ 16/​$ 20) but the sign in the garage says $ 20/​night. That’s one thing I don’t like about staying in New Orleans — no matter where you stay, you pay a premium to park your vehicle. Oh well.
My complaints are that the AC makes a high pitched loud whistling noise while it works and that the resort fee seems much. They should just wrap it into the price of the room. Wifi isn’t password protected so saying that it pays for wifi seems contrived. All in all a pleasant stay at the RSC. We would stay again!

My husband and I started off our honeymoon with a weekend in New Orleans. We spent two nights at this hotel. The staff was so very friendly. We found this this be the case at most businesses in New Orleans. We arrived a few hours before we could check in, but the hotel held our luggage and gave us a call when the room was ready. We ended up being able to access our room by 1pm! The hotel room was clean but very small. Not uncomfortably small, but there was no area of excess by any means.
There were a few things we longed for, thus the 4 stars rather than 5. There was no fridge in the room. In a city with massive portion sizes and delicious food on every corner, we wish we’d had access to a fridge to store some of those leftovers.
The shower liner was just barely long enough for the tub, so every time I showered water would leak out onto the floor, no matter how careful I was.
No hotel bar or restaurant. After a long day of walking around the city, we really only wanted to order room service and eat dinner in our pajamas, but that wasn’t an option.
Rate is $ 159/​night plus a $ 10 amenities fee for the wifi, safe, and a couple of other things. This fee is not optional. Fewer people would complain if they just increased the rate by 10 bucks and said wifi was free.
We stayed in a single queen room. The mattress cover is very slippery and would slide around under our sheets at night, making the sheet bunch up underneath us. It was a little weird, but the bed was comfortable.
Overall these items are minor and the hospitality of the staff outweighed these complaints. This is a good, affordable place to stay in New Orleans.
