Quality Inn & Suites Maison St. Charles

Super nice and friendly staff. Great location on Street Carter line. Close to Uptown and walking distance to WW 2 museum. Downside TV’S are low def. few channels and rooms are very worn. We have stayed twice only because of price and poor planning.

This hotel is a shame.
I’ll keep it short upfront, will go into detail below.
We had major issues with hotel management prior to arriving. When we got here we were given a room with a door that wouldn’t open. Security eventually helped us muscle it open (with cringes on our faces). We were placed in the old section which smells of mildew and haunt, and our room looked like no one had stayed there in months. They did move us quickly, which we appreciated. The new room on the first floor of the new section was nice, clean, and comfortable.
Breakfast is «meh.» Pool is ok, front desk folks are helpful and sweet like just about every person we have met in NOLA.
This is an inexpensive place to stay outside of any major events as they price gouge and is yet another glaring reason why air Bnb will steamroll this desperate industry.
Here’s the detail:
Two months before our trip I lost my job. Most stressful situation I’ve ever been in. The booking site that our friends used were willing to make an exception, but the hotel had to also confirm. Despite multiple calls and emails, they refused. This is two months in advance and arguably the grubbers that run this place could have jacked the price up even more unreasonably than they had as Jazz Fest approached, but that rationale didn’t pan out. Once we were here I realized why; upon checking in during the second week of Jazz Fest the front desk person mentioned they had plenty of rooms. The owners’ inability to create demand during one of New Orleans busiest times had now become my problem. Luckily we didn’t run into them.
So I was on the hook for $ 250 per night in a room that usually goes for less than $ 100 ($ 1250 total) when Air BnB had beautiful places available for ~$ 600.
Thankfully I was able to get back on my feet and my fiancée and I made the best of our trip, pretty crazy how reasonable EVERYWHERE else is here, even the festival rarely charged more than $ 10 for food and Über was prevalent and kept surge prices to a minimum.
At one point we asked for towels to take a shower and didn’t end up resolving until nearly two hours and five requests later.
It kind of seems like the owners are somewhere far far away and could literally not care less about how this place keeps up.
One upside is the security and staff on the grounds who are incredibly pleasant. The two stray cats are cute too.

Nice hotel on the outskirts of the french quarter but right on the street car line on St Charles.
Our room was what you would think a room in NOLA would be. It was purple and very french. We were on the 3^rd floor on a court yard and it was fine Room is modern, no complaints.
The hotel staff was friendly, we did not hit Mr Ed’s Oyster bar which is in the hotel. There is a Wendy’s and Popeyes next door as well as an Emeril Domonicos across the street. Actually there were a lot of food choices.
The hotel is about a mile from the French Quarter.
WIFI is fast.

This place is a disaster. I am a Platinum rewards member with choice hotels. This location is battling for the top spot on my list of the worst I’ve seen and believe me… I’ve seen a lot. I usually do my homework before picking my hotel but was in a time crunch and let the company book the hotel for me this time. Wow… regrettable. I could list all the things I was dissatisfied with, annoyed with, grossed out by but I’ll just say this… do yourself a favor and find another location to spend your evenings. So glad I only had to stay one night. The only reason it has a 2 star rate is because the front desk workers are very nice and rather accommodating. They were the lone bright spot in an otherwise epically disappointing choice hotels affiliated hotel.

This may be the worst run motel in New Orleans! On day two of my stay here the front desk «accidentally» checked another guest into my room. This guest let himself into what he was led to believe was his own room late in the afternoon while my two teenage daughters were taking a nap, which one of them awoke with a strange man standing in her room and promptly screamed. I was just returning from a store run and was back in the room within seconds of hearing my daughter scream. Luckily for all of us that the other guest was a gentlemen and not looking for trouble.
The clerk at the front desk thought it was «funny» upon hearing my complaint, and explained that their computer was down and that this happens «all the time»… The manager was unavailable on both times I asked to see him or her, and never call me as promised. A week after my departure, after never hearing from back from anyone at the motel, I wrote a compliant letter to the general manager of Quality Inn & Suites Maison St. Charles. To date I have never been contacted by Quality Inn & Suites Maison St. Charles.
Next I contacted ChoiceHotels, the franchiser of Quality Inn & Suites Maison St. Charles, they asked me to email them my receipts to prove that I was a guest there as Quality Inn & Suites Maison St. Charles would not proved them to Choice Hotels. The fact that the local motel would not even admit or deny to the corporate headquarters that I was a guest there shows how they treat their guests. After a number of phone conversations and the need to resend the receipts to ChoiceHotels as they claimed they were blurry, ChoiceHotels has done exactly nothing. All they do is stall, true churn and burn business.
Update six months later: ChocieHotels has still yet to get back to me about this issue, nor even acknowledge my followup emails asking for a status update on their ‘investigation’.

We were there November 27 – 29 during the Bayou Classic event so the city was very busy. The room rate was reasonable for a St. Charles hotel, and the room (though old) was clean, comfortable, and nicely painted. The only problem I had was that the parking is across from the hotel on a side street that gets locked at night, and it felt like it should be locked in the day too. It’s seedy, with a lot of homeless people are walking around. I never felt safe walking to and from the car. Also, I could have done without the partying and pot smoking until 3 am in the strairwell, but I guess it’s to be expected during a major New Orleans event. I might stay here again, but I will check other places first.

Not a good stay! One word: BEDBUGS
not joking. When we got to the hotel, we judged it as generally shoddy: the rooms were never really clean, the housekeeping was inconsistent at best (no towels some day, not replenishing TP, no bath mat, extra bath mat, no wipe down or trash cleanup) it’s obvious that the staff does not care in the least about their work.
We also had a weird incident where housekeeping knocked quite early for us vacationers (~9:30am) and we let her know to come back later. Then she (or maybe another person?) came back again not even 15 min later! Seriously?! Let me sleep!
Then, the huge offense: my boyfriend found a full-​sized bedbug in the bed opposite ours. ICK! We took pictures, even saved the bedbug but when we confronted the hotel manager she basically said were wrong and they have detectors and that there is no way it’s a bedbug and agreed to refund one night for our troubles. I told her I was skeptical and that it wasn’t over, took it up with travelocity and on our way out called the health department so they could investigate. I hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else!
Overall the only thing they have going for them is nice location on st Charles, away from some of the hustle and bustle of the quarter. Their comp breakfast was also abhorrent.

This place was less than even adequate. The room was not cleaned each day, hand towels were not provided each day, the refrigerator froze all of our food, the microwave didn’t work properly, the mattress was hard as a rock and the room smelled musty. The breakfast only included unhealthy choices — unless you want to include eggs that tasted like salt and were hard boiled (not even sure if they were real or reconstituted). The air conditioner was so noisy it was hard to talk and ran ²⁴⁄₇ even though we were there when the temperature was moderate. There are so many places to stay in New Orleans… it’s amazing they stay in business.

I bought this hotel stay off of Travelzoo and it was not worth the advertised Retail price. Thank goodness I didn’t pay much.
I left my favorite $ 200 bathing suit there and not only did one of their staff obviously steal it, but it took me 5 phone calls and an email over the span of 5 days to even get an answer as to whether or not they had it. It should NEVER be that hard to check on the lost and found. All items left in a hotel should be recoverable or it is the same at robbery to me. Thieves work here.

We checked in on the evening of July 8 and checked out on July 10. We would have stayed an extra night had the housekeeper not barged in on us while sleeping. I’ll get more into that later.
I was skeptical about this place since the price was great and I was right to be so. Upon entering the room, I noticed items left on the floor under the desk (see photo), the bathroom mirror was dirty, the desk and bathroom counter were also dirty (I should have taken photos) the curtains did not provide privacy so I ended up using my hair clip to rig them closed (see photo) and the security lock on the door was broken (see photo).
There were no issues with the outside of the hotel, its location or the front desk staff. We did appreciate that there is parking nearby that is gated (locked in the evening) and has security.
On to the inexcusable behavior of housekeeping… we made arrangements with the front desk staff to check out at noon on July 10. At 9:43 a.m. we were awakened by a lady from housekeeping banging on the door yelling «housekeeping!!». My boyfriend went to the door and informed her we didn’t need anything. She acknowledged him and went on. Less than an hour later, before 11:00 a.m., she unlocked the door and walked in. I yelled as I was startled by the intrusion. She apologized and went on. She then came back for a third time. My boyfriend told her to just let us be as we’re leaving at noon and didn’t need anything. (Before all of this nonsense, I thought of staying another night to catch up on some rest, but the housekeepers behavior pretty much voided that idea.)
We were unable to get adequate rest from the night before due to her obnoxious behavior, but we promptly left at noon and went to another hotel to relax and get our much needed rest.

Stayed here at Mardi Gras for the convenience of being on the parade route closer to a family-​friendlier area. Room was clean, but not great — then again it was Mardi Gras. Staff was nice and helpful. I felt like safety was an issue too, just by being not enclosed and not seeing any security. Might stay here again, based upon the room rate and convenience factor.

I stayed for several nights at the Quality Inn Maison St Charles — it was the hotel recommended for my friend’s wedding. Checking in, Hope was extremely helpful — upgrading us to a suite. She showed us our nightly charged and they were $ 50+ over the confirmed rate. She adjusted the rate to show what we had originally been quoted. My fiancé and I went off to our suite — a two room suite with walk in shower and separate tub. Unfortunately, while the room seemed clean, upon inspection we found mold in several locations and dead bugs in the bathroom. The lock on the door was broken off!!! If we hadn’t have made arrangements with other wedding guests staying at the hotel, we would have left. Things went downhill from then — from the loud fans at night to the dirty shower and stained comforter, the Maison St. Charles did not live up to any expectations. They did not clean our bathroom or the room any night — just took away the used towels and made the bed. They didn’t put any new towels or toiletries out. We had to request towels three separate occasions before they were brought to our room.
Additionally, we went to eat breakfast one morning to find moldy fruit, dirty benches with moss/​mold on them, and an extremely dirty water cooler. Walking the steps was also accompanied by a disgusting dead fish/​mold odor each time!!!
I also was charged for parking having been told by an associate when I had booked that parking would be complementary. Thankfully, upon checking the bill, I brought this to the attention of the staff who took it off my charges. That being said, the parking charge was high for the area to begin — $ 17 a night was higher than other places around!
To say I was disappointed with this hotel would be an understatement. It’s only redeeming feature was the kind staff at the desk and the fact that the hotel is near the St. Charles streetcar. That alone is worthy of at least two stars — but I considered one star for quite a while.
Beware!

The only plus for me was the close proximity to catch the street car, the cleanliness of the room lacked in every way possible. Will not be returning to this hotel ever!

Front desk folk are dicks. Hit the front desk button on my room phone… guy answers «yeah?» I said…“Yeah? (And then I chuckle) I’m in room ##, can I please have the passcode for the wifi?” His response.” The wifi?”…“yeah, the wifi… the service you offer for free to connect to the Internet”…he responds.“huh…” And hangs up. I call back 4 times thinking we were disconnected. It goes straight to a recording. He had my room number at the very least… but being a rude punk is inexcusable.

Pros: Complementary breakfast was sufficient and nice, property was beautiful, great location with the street car to Bourbon right in front, staff was friendly, they didn’t mind we checked out a half hour late, parking lot was $ 15 per night but was very close, night staff didn’t mind that we were hanging out in the hot tub late at night, price was reasonable for recent college grads on spring break
Cons: room smelled a little musty, shower was strange and was half open (no curtain, just a piece of glass), fridge was supposed to have an ice maker but wasn’t working
Bottom line: we enjoyed our stay and would book again

Location is great. It’s right on the St. Charles streetcar line. For $ 3 you get an unlimited ride ticket.
The hotel itself is a bit shabby chic. It’s maintained and decorated nicely but the age of the facility does show.
The staff was all extremely helpful and friendly.
Rooms are spacious. Vanity area is well appointed.

We threw our trip to The Big Easy together at the last minute. As we planned to walk around and see as much as possible, I wasn’t overly concerned about the hotel accommodations. We only needed a place to sleep after all, right?
We flew in, and it was cold in New Orleans. We checked into our suite, and at first I was pleased with the size. After getting over how much room we had though, I noticed that the place wasn’t exactly clean. I don’t expect hotels to be as clean as my own home, but I do expect a certain level of cleanliness, like less than 20 pieces of hair on the bathroom floor for example.
The brought new towels each day, but we had to go the front desk to get other items, plastic cups and toilet paper, things that should be checked and refilled automatically in my mind.
The breakfast each morning was ok, nothing fancy, but they did have eggs, sausage, juice, bagels, cereal, waffles, and coffee. Pretty much something for everyone, I have no complaints about it.
Back to the bit about it being cold when we flew in. The thermostat in the room is just for looks. We stayed from a Wednesday until Saturday, and the first two days there was no heat in our room. I was convinced that the place didn’t have heat. On Friday, when the place filled up, suddenly we had heat.
If you’re planning on sleeping only, then this may be the place for you. If you’re planning on spending any more time in the room than that, I would keep searching.

Nice hotel well located, just in front of the car which brings you to either the French quarter or Audubon park.
The rooms are quiet, with big beds and the place are clean.
Swimming pool outside is nice.
The breakfast is real good, with a large choice of egg, beef, waffles, bagels, juices and coffee.
Update: I had put more stars but an annoying fact changed my opinion: they took off our towels in the mornings without replacing them. We had to call late at night for towels when we came back

I really enjoyed this large, well appointed property. The rooms were unique and classical. A group of my friends stayed at this property and each of our rooms was different. Their suites are huge!
I appreciated the business center and laundry room. The free breakfast was nice, too, but I wished they served later into the day. This property is right along the parade routes, but two miles from French Quarter. So if your desire is party in the French Quarter then stay somewhere closer or expect to take taxis everywhere (as the street cars don’t run during the parades).

Stayed here for couple of night this past weekend. Prepaid through
for $ 150 a night (Friday & Sat). Pretty good bargain considering this hotel is centrally located on St Charles and about 5 min from the Quarter. The online pictures were decent so I took a chance and didn’t bother looking for alternative.
Positives:
1) On St Charles strip walking distance to several local restaurants and bars.
2) Convenient trolley stop right across the street.
3) Noticed guest parking sign so I’m assuming there was free parking. I had no car rental so didn’t ask. There are plenty of street parking as well.
4) Gorgeous lobby reception. Very friendly staff. I was checked in swiftly.
5) King Room #244 was very spacious. High ceilings. Old world décor. Liked the chandeliers.
6) Room had all standard amenities including Fridge and Micro, separate sitting area, coffee table and writing desk.
7) Free WiFi had surprisingly strong reception and fast connection.
Negatives:
1) Furniture were pretty beat up. Old World doesn’t have to be banged up OLD
2) Bathroom was very dated but everything worked. Ceiling vent was unscrewed from one side so looked like it was about to fall.
3) Towels were so overwashed. They were stiff and rough!
3) All drapes were not hung properly so it was impossible to completely close to block the annoying street light shining towards the window and sunshine in the morning.
4) Although the sheets were laundry fresh, the bed itself was uncomfortable. I felt the springs and middle dip which common with old mattresses.
5) Door had gaps so cold air was getting into the room but the A/​C provided enough heat through the night.
6) The most annoying part were the squeaky floors in the living area and constant vibration from the air ducts coming from the room below me? So weird…
I know I could have asked to be switched to another room but I really wasn’t planning to stay indoors during my stay. My room was in the 2 story older «wood» building and noticed there were also newer 4 story concrete ones in the premises… maybe these had newer rooms? The price point didn’t break the bank but I might not consider staying here again unless they renovate ALL rooms. See my pics.
