Pure Cake

We needed a cake for a special birthday. Being from out of town, we had to take a chance on which bakery would fit the need. The pastry chefs at Pure Cake could not have done a better job or been nicer; the cake (red velvet) was delicious, moist, definitely from scratch; the icing yummy and the decorations perfect for the occasion. Thanks Pure Cake for making the day extra special.

I ordered here for my son’s past birthday. I waited last minute, thus they were only ably to accommodate two mini cakes. I got one wedding cake and one salted caramel. It was delicious. My only issue was having to keep the cake at room temperature prior to serving.
We are planning a very special birthday event for my husbands 30^th. I hope to be utilizing pure cakes and hope to receive a cake fresh to order. I will say that the cake was still a bit moist despite having to thaw.

Pure Cake made our wedding and groom’s cakes for this past Saturday, and they were not only beautiful but amazingly delicious. They were a breeze to work with and I wasn’t at all worried about anything going wrong. I highly recommend them to anyone!

My friends and I have ordered mini cakes and regular sized cakes from here and we always enjoy the taste!
I can’t remember what flavors we ordered, but my personal favorite would be red velvet.
Mini cakes are great for small birthday dinners or if you’re celebrating multiple birthdays and want to give each person their own cake.
I definitely like pure cake and will keep ordering in the future!

I needed a cake and I waited almost to the very last minute. It was a week in advance. They were kind enough to accommodate me. It was for my little sister’s sweet 16 party. She loves red velvet! I almost messed up an important Bday by dragging my feet but I got to be the great big brother who came up big for his little sister and it’s all thanks to pure cake. #clutch Thanks!

I ordered a custom 50^th birthday cake for my husband this year. The cake was not only beautifully designed the taste was incredible!!! Everyone at the party wanted to know who made the cake. I will definitely order from Pure Cake in the future.

Love this place. Sad that tomorrow is the last day they are selling cake pops and mini cakes without having to pre order!

Pure Cake did my wedding cake. After doing tastings at all «best of knot» bakeries… yes around 5 or 6… I was starting to get discouraged. Pure cake was my last scheduled tasting and it was so good! (I would have gone with another bakery on the Northshore if I hadn’t found anything, but I really wanted to stay more local.) I’m so glad I did. The cake was beautiful and was SO good — especially since it was a wedding cake. Would recommend them to anyone.

This review is extremely late and long overdue but I figured better late than never. My husband and I used Pure for our wedding in December of 2013. Hands down (and I’m not just saying this because it’s my wedding), but the best wedding cake I’ve ever had. Several of my guests had the same reactions as well. The girls over at Pure were able to come up with a design that fit perfectly with what we wanted. Monique made the whole process extremely easy and was very personable with us. We even were able to get additional sheet cakes made so we were able to have some after the wedding and reception were over. My cake was vanilla with a salted caramel filling and my husbands cake was chocolate with a salted caramel filling. Both were Devine. Aside from our wedding cakes, we’ve also had small cakes made from pure as well. And the cake pops, I haven’t personally tasted but my husband says they are delicioussssss. Thanks again pure for doing such a great job!

I’m still trying to understand how they have 4 stars. They were very quick to respond when I ordered but took 5 days to respond when I made a complain. She respond with the facts that they use real butter and that is why my cake crumbled? But the real butter should keep the cake moist and texture. She also said the cake was not frozen but why did I have to keep it out for 2 – 3 hours for COMPLETE freshness? I’ve never heard of that before. I understand if it was refrigerated, but I would still be able to eat it right from the refrigerator. I had at least 5 different people try it and they all had the same response. I don’t recommend wasting your time or money here.

Based on the flavor of their cakes, style and cleanliness of their store I would give them 5 or even 6 stars, but you’d better make sure you get it locked in with a contract right away and make sure the contract is fully binding.
We were ready to pay on the spot back in October, but they were too busy to talk and insisted on finalizing the design first which has been a slow back and forth for months by e-​mail. I requested a conversation by phone several times, but was never called back.
This week we got an e-​mail saying that they are not going to be open for our wedding date anymore due to personal reasons and that they can’t do the cake. They couldn’t even do it a few days before if we find proper storage.
We pray for them if this personal issue is a true crisis, but it is doubtful as our wedding is not for another several months, they seem to have several people working in the shop, we are getting married on a Friday in a common wedding month and the date of our wedding has been set and communicated to them in writing since last October. They did not even recommend any alternative bakeries in the rejection e-​mail. We could not reach them by phone and had to e-​mail back for details and a recommendation. (Their only recommendation was a bakery that is in another city).
The cake itself is absolutely amazing, but the follow through and communication needs a lot of work.
In our original conversation we requested a small wedding cake, chocolate with white butter cream frosting, with kitchen cakes in other flavors too and said our budget was about $ 500 for cake. I didn’t really care much about the design, but they wanted to do something to mimic the dress and invitations. They came back with a huge cake design covered in marzipan, which my fiancée and I both don’t like, and a price of well over $ 1000. When we clarified what we were looking for again, they said they could do it and still needed to work on the new design before sending the contract… then we couldn’t reach them to discuss or get a contract. I was waiting on a phone call from them when the e-​mail arrived.
We are very disappointed that we will not be eating the cake we wanted at our wedding We live out of town and had made a special trip last fall just to taste cakes and select a bakery. Unfortunately, we can not afford a second trip to inquire with other bakeries and we will now have a mystery cake (with fingers crossed).
As a side note, for those shopping around, MAKE SURE YOU VISIT THE BAKERY SHOPS IN PERSON! I do not recommend Swiss bakery at all… they ignored our appointment for a tasting and left us sitting at a dirty table with dirty 3 ring binders of photos from the 80’s for 30 minutes. The staff was rude and the shop was absolutely filthy. Royal Cakes tasted good, but we were turned off as we watched one of the kitchen staff members licked her fingers to touch up icing on a cake. Royal Cakes also seemed frustrated that we did not have a design already drawn up when we arrived for our appointment.
I am thinking of calling the bakery at Whole Foods now. Do they do wedding cakes? At this point, I really don’t care… we might just order doughnuts or break out some Hostess cupcakes.
Sooooooo disappointed.

Ordered a custom traditional flavor cake for my 2yo godson party… got the small… still gad leftovers and every single person (adult and child) said the cake looked amazing and tasted even better. Will be ordering from here for all events!

I got married in New Orleans on 11÷1÷13 and was coming in from out of town. I had looked at different cake shops in NOLA to get our wedding cake. All signs pointed toward Pure Cake and I see now why they come so highly recommended!
I communicated primarily by email and always received prompt responses. We decided to have a not-​so-​traditional wedding cake: THE TARDIS! I wasn’t sure what to expect from this request, but let me tell you that they delivered it perfectly!
When we arrived at our reception at a local restaurant, the first thing we noticed on the table was the cake in all its Tardis glory. Even the waitstaff couldn’t stop gushing about it (and we were told they took their pictures next to it) But it doesn’t stop there! Not only was it wonderful looking, but (sad as it was to cut it) it was also DELICIOUS! It was just a simple almond cake with frosting (traditional wedding flavors, heh) but it was the most decadent, savory cake I have ever had!
Would sooo recommend anyone to come here and get a cake. I’m just sad that I live all the way in Baltimore! But at least I can always visit again :)

Our Pure Cake Wedding Cake was everything we wanted it to be — simple, beautiful and utterly delicious. We only had 50 guests so we we went for a white 2 layer design — one strawberry cream layer and one chocolate layer also with strawberries mixed in. We also had a separate doberge birthday cake for the best man. The cake was scrumptious, plentiful and exactly to our specifications. Thank you Pure Cake!

Everything here is great. Cake pops are phenomenal. We got a wedding cake and grooms cake from here for our wedding and everyone loved them. I generally don’t like bakery cakes but I’d go out of my way to get one from here.

Wedding Cake:
Pure Cake did our wedding cake for ¹⁰⁄₁₂ and it was both beautiful and sooooo tasty! We got compliments on it all night long and even after the wedding! I would definitely recommend them for any event; they were professional and produce a fantastic cake for your special occasion!

VERY pleasantly surprised!
I was never a big cake ball fan; I’ve always preferred cupcakes. I never liked the mushy texture and ridiculously sweet icing of other cake balls I’ve tried prior to Pure Cake. At first, I wrote Pure Cake right off when I found out they only served cake balls and small cakes, but then immediately had to reconsider after reading all the great reviews; boy was I glad I decided to check it out.
Being a bona-​fide dessert fanatic, I can be pretty critical about sweets I try. I decided to get the much talked about chocolate filled with salted caramel, cream cheese filled red velvet, wedding cake, and bananas foster. They were all pretty darn good! I’ve let a couple of people try it, and they too enjoyed them. The texture of the cake wasn’t mushy as I expected it to be, and the icing wasn’t too sweet! What a winner! What I really enjoyed was eating the cake on its own without the shell; you’re able to truly taste how decadent the cake is.
So why the 4 stars? The pricing! Omg 4 bucks for one that isn’t filled and 5 bucks for ones that are! It seems a bit much especially since it’s smaller than a cupcake, which is usually around 3 bucks.
Though aside from the pricing, I am thoroughly impressed by this new bakery so close to my school!

Just got a bananas foster cake pop and it was delicious! Moist inside and icing wasn’t too sweet. Stopped by during Freret Fest, so can’t wait to get a cake or a dozen cake pops.
Don’t go searching for cupcakes, just stop here and you won’t be disappointed.

Pure crack is more like it.
I felt drawn to Pure Cake because they had a funny sign outside saying something to the effect of «No, we don’t have cupcakes… try a cake pop instead!» (or maybe it was «cupcakes are so passé.» JK!) So I felt it was my responsibility to do just that. I tried two, in fact (I shared. I’m all about sharing the sweets). One chocolate peanut butter and one vanilla with salted caramel filling. I refer you to my first sentence. Yep. That good. Not that I’ve ever tried crack, mind you.
Whereas I’ve found most cupcakes to be rather pedestrian, dry affairs (with a few exceptions, of course, no disrespect to the bakers who make kickass cupcakes), these cake pops are like cake art. Moist, sweet, decadent-​as-​a-​bon-​bon… and fun to eat as well! Plus there’s just something undignified about peeling a wrapper and shoving a cupcake into your mouth, leaving a mess of crumbs and frosting all over you, right? Cake pops are both delicious, graceful *and* elegant. I could picture Marie Antoinette eating one. Or, like even Fred Astaire.

I am incredibly honored to write the second review for this amazing little place. We coincidentally ran into this cake shop after shamelessly inhaling triple the amount of calories any human should consume in a week at the hot dog place next door. But this isn’t just any cake shop, this is possibly the most amazing cake shop ever. Yes, I said it: EVER. This place makes me want to have parties and plan events to give myself a guiltless excuse to stuff my face with cake.
Since we were overly stuffed from our lunch, we took it easy and ordered just 2 cake pops from their beautiful selection of goodies. Their cakepops are bigger than any I’ve ever seen, which just adds to their charm and mystique. We had the white cake filled with salted caramel and the classive red velvet filled with cream cheese. The white cake was awesome — the sweetness and perfect texture of the cake mixed with the creaminess and hint of salt from the caramel was out of control. The red velvet was perfect — the cream cheese was awesome. The moistness of the cakes were on point — I’ve had plenty of cakepops and these little guys take the cake.
They offer a wide variety of flavors, all displayed nice and pretty in their case with little flags announcing their flavors. They also had mini cakes which were very cute and would make for a great gift. Or shamless personal indulgence. You decide.
Pure Cake was pure awesomeness. Loved it.
