Beautiful selection of items. Could do better by displaying items to get people interested in the writing arts. And maybe creating an atmosphere of easy testing and casual shopping. I really liked the store, but so many other places were openly welcoming, had items at eye level and appeared stocked with the basics — instead of watching over every move you make in the store. Here, you had to shop while getting stared down with no extra info. Great concept — needs some atmosphere and customer service.

Let me first say that the quality of the pens and the merchandise itself in this store is amazing. The reason I am leaving a 2 star review is the experience we had.
We went in with 3 friends and spent over $ 400 and were very happy with our purchase. The cashier overcharged us and told us that it was a mistake so she processed the return and said it would be back on our card immediately. She then had to re charge the correct amount. All of these transactions over drafted our bank account and we were charged bank fees because of her mistake. The next day we called the bank and they said to go talk to the store to see if they could fix the problem and she was very rude.
First the manager thought we were there to scam the store and that was so offensive to start out with, and then the cashier tried to back track what she previously said about the return being available immediately. She lied to all our faces and said she never said that.
In the end they did not help us and it’s unfortunate, the good thing is our bank has great customer service and they will help us by getting our money back from this horrible experience.

So I want to start off by saying that I really love the product that I bought from this store. They have really cool pens and I love all of the different designed pens that they have to offer. However, I am not posting this review about their product. I am posting a review about the customer service I received from them.
We went in to look for a pen. The store was very interesting. At the time we received good customer service. Of course that makes sense because we were buying almost 400 dollars worth of pens. At the time I was double charged and the woman insisted that I would see a refund immediately. I said that was fine.
I noticed in my bank account that I was double charged and went back to go speak to the woman. I showed her what the bank told me and the store owner or manager made a comment that I was just trying to get money from her, or scam her. She told me there was nothing she could do about it and said that what I was looking at wasn’t accurate and what the bank told me wasn’t accurate. She also said that she never told me that the money would be credited back to my account immediately. However, myself and the people I was with all heard her tell me that. She was extremely rude and not helpful when I came back to talk to her. I remained calm and polite. I didn’t yell at her or make a scene. I was simply just trying to resolve the error SHE made. Take responsibility as a business and do what you can to resolve the issue. If she hadn’t acted this way I would have given this place a great rating. She also said that she doesn’t take American Express which is what I tried to pay with but then told my friend he can use his American Express card but they get charged 8% which is why they don’t like for people to use AMEX. I dont leave reviews very often but I just wanted to make everyone who goes their aware.

We always stop and shop here when we come to New Orleans. Patrick is passionate about his products. They have a beautiful collection of pens for every budget, it makes you excited about sitting down and writing, the dilemma is what color to use because there are so many to choose from! We love using the wax seals (again a great selection of wax colors and seals) to add a special touch to our cards and invitations we send out. He has a nice selection of stationary and note cards. I especially liked the unique African animal card set he had, never seen anything like them, and the proceeds go to conservation, how cool is that. Great place to buy a unique gift.

The shop is adorable. One of the most unique shops in the French Quarter. Great place to just look around if you’re into calligraphy and hand made notebooks. They have a pen straight out of a nautilous movie that that is so fancy it comes with its own «underwater» display. They have journals that are covered in hand cut leather and filled with hand cut chalk art paper.
The most extraordinary thing about this shop however is the staff. They are absolutely first rate. Everyone is incredibly knowledgeable, attentive, and kind. One of them had a short conversation with my daughter in French and then spent 20 minutes showing her the wax seals. She let her do one of her choice and then take the results home at no charge. They wrapped the refillable leather journal I bought in gorgeous wrapping paper and added my choice of wax seal to that as well.
I will definitely be returning.

My family and I heard about this store, and came across it while strolling through the French Quarter. Even though it was close to closing time, the owner spent extensive time explaining everything, answering all our questions, and even letting my kids try writing with dip pens and using wax seals. We went in browsing, and walked out with some wax seals, wax, a dip pen, and ink.
Even after the store closed, she spent time making sure I had the most comfortable starter dip pen and then tried multiple tips until I had the ones most suited to my style. Even with the wax seals, she spent time explaining different uses, ways to melt the wax, seal, etc.
Definitely a store well worth visiting, even to browse, but if you are any kind of writer, this is the place to go. Prices may be expensive; however the prices are definitely correct for the level of quality you’re getting, along with the phenomenal customer service.

Owner is very friendly & helpful. My friend purchased a wax seal and she took the time to demonstrate the different kinds of wax & how to use them correctly. On a previous visit, she took the time to help us figure out what kind of ink cartridge our fountain pen used. A+ customer service.

Wow! I almost left with a Category 5 burning hole in my pocket…
This pen shop has a great selection of stationery, wax seals, pens, and inks. I’m a big fountain pen fan and as soon as I saw their vintage dead stock, I was a goner. They also make their own inks from a formula given to them by a French chemist, and the inks are beautiful and vibrant. I bought a bottle of the Ivy green and inked up my pen to test it out– wonderful flow, great pigmentation, and dries relatively fast. As I write this review I am contemplating stopping by tomorrow morning and picking up a few more colors…

This is a gorgeous fancy shop for people who still hand write letters and appreciate the finer things.
We stopped in here just to look around and WOW– they have gorgeous things here. I loved the ink pens that you have to actually fill with ink. They have ink wells containing inks of all different colors: different shades of blue, greens and coppers really blew me away.
They also sell a large assortment of fancy magnifying glasses with beautiful silver handles and gorgeous wrapping paper and stationary. If you are looking for a unique gift for a writer in your life, Papier Plume should be your first and last stop.
The store owner was extremely welcoming and asked where we were from and if we needed help with anything. I also heard her telling other people to «enjoy the city», which I love from any store proprietor, especially one in the French Quarter.

Strolled in on a trip to NOLA, got a wonderful gift here and it was wrapped and sealed beautifully. Staff spent a lot of time with me even though they knew my budget was tight. Can’t wait to give the gift, but it will be a couple months away!

This place has everything you look for in a pen store: an excellent selection, a lot of unique items, and a knowledgable staff.

I loved this shop! I am a stationary, pen, journal, etc. enthusiast. This shop had it all. The lady that was there was very knowledgable and helped me select the writing instrument that would work the best for me. This shop is not for those looking for a basic pen because the prices are on the higher side. The shop offers a wide selection of fountain pens as well as quills. They also offer ink wells, stands, journals, wax and stamps. I would highly recommend this shop to my fellow calligraphers.

This is a wonderful (and dangerously enticing) little shop on Royal Street! I am a local who happens to have a bad stationary addiction, and I make sure to stop here everytime I am in the Quarter.
They have a beautiful, rotating selection of fine stationary, pens and leather goods, and the shop employees are always extremely friendly and helpful. I remember one time in particular when an employee let me try a high-​end pen tip for a calligraphy pen I own… amazing!
This is a little piece of Florence in New Orleans, and I highly recommend it to anyone who might be in the area!

These proprietors are so helpful and knowledgeable; found some great gifts for my family at home, and some small extras were placed in my bag without my knowledge! The selection of paper and pens is really extensive, and they certainly know what they’re talking about. If you like to write, or value the heft of a quality pen, this is a really neat place in which to shop.

A cool little shop with pens, wax seals, etc. Sweetie and I wandered past and were drawn in. We were tempted by some seals and pens, but things were a little pricey. They do have smaller, cheaper stuff too– notecards, etc. And really, the wax and seals are not too expensive.

A calligraphist’s dream. Paper and ink goods beautiful enough to inspire, lovely stationery and cards that nullify Hallmark products by a mile. I decided I wasn’t vain enough (or perhaps too pyro) to warrant a wax seal for my love letters shut, but that didn’t stop me from fondling/​sniffing the leather goods. Even the polished metal inkwells, paperweights, and holders deserved a moment’s admiration.

Papier Plume is a very nice purveyor of fine paper goods. I stopped in during a recent visit to the French Quarter. I was with a group of work colleagues, who were itching to explore Bourbon Street. Royal was more my style and I wanted to linger on this Street a little longer. Papier Plume gave me that chance while they left me behind to catch up later.
The folks inside Papier Plume were helpful, friendly, and offered a few spot on recommendations. I felt that my purchases were well curated and priced. I also loved just wandering around this small little boutique shop and imagining the possibilities. The space itself is on a bright and airy corner, and with a «come hither» vibe as you walk up to the store. I’m sure that I’ll find a way to come back the next time I visit NOLA.

I think it’s a prerequisite to being a writer that you must love paper goods. Even though I do 99% of my writing via keyboard these days, just the thought of a beautiful journal is enough to get my heart racing. So when I saw Papier Plume during my rambles around the French Quarter, it was imperative that I stop in.
The shop itself is situated on a bright and airy corner, with pleasant staff who was more than willing to dig around in the back for an item I wasn’t even sure existed. I fell in love with a set of fleur-​de-​lis patterned cards that was just the right shade to match our wedding colors of gray and seafoam green. I didn’t see a small note card sized set out, though – only a large greeting card size – so I asked the woman walking the floor if she had it in the smaller size. After a good rummage around in the back, I had them in my hands, perfect for writing all the thank you notes I needed.
When I approached the counter to pay for my items, the man at the front (who I presume is the owner) showed me that these were special cards. Instead of writing directly on the inside of the card itself, it had a small insert on which you could pen your note. «Very chic,» he assured me. And now that I’ve written a few notes, I agree that the quality is superb. The envelopes have a beautiful subtle texture and I know they’ll make a great impression on the recipients.
The prices are actually fairly moderate – my beautiful set of 10 cards was $ 12. I bought one set in grey and one in green, but once I got home I realized my cumulative twenty cards wasn’t going to scratch the surface for the amount of thank you notes I still needed to write. Luckily, Papier Plume has a website and I was able to order four more sets of cards. So if you fall in love with something in the shop and want to replenish your stock or are experiencing remorse over walking away from that lovely paperweight or pen, never fear; you won’t have to make a trip to New Orleans to satisfy that urge.
Definitely worth a look, and a purchase too, while you’re at it.

Following through on my promise to write this place up on Unilocal afteuch great service. I’m in town for a wedding — first time in the French Quarter — and the mother of the groom tasked me with finding replacement cartridges for very special pens she had for the guestbook. After going to normal office supply places it was clear that this needed more personal attention.
The staff not only found a replacement cartridge that would be suitable for the pen, but also cut the length down so it would fit perfectly. Great and friendly and probably the only place that could have gotten the job done in the area!

For all you faithful Unilocal friends who read my reviews, you know that I am a lover of high quality stationery, paper, pen and ink shops like this. So like a moth to a flame, I was drawn into this beautiful shop in downtown New Orleans which also happens to be on one of my favorite streets in the French Quarter.
Let me start by saying that the owners are wonderful people. This becomes almost immediately apparent upon entering.
They are welcoming, helpful and kind.
Their store is irresistable and so lovely with eye-​catching items everywhere you look. There are beautiful writing implements, inks and ink wells, exquisite European stationery, wrapping papers, calligraphy sets, gorgeously bound journals and the like.
As I browsed around, I suddenly espied the sealing wax and seals. Oh my. Years ago when I was in junior high and high school in NYC, the ancient practice of affixing one’s seal into a pool of colored wax on the outside of envelopes had been resurrected.
Seals and sealing wax were readily found in shops everywhere.
I still have my original initial seal that I used back then. Nary an envelope left my hand for years without my seal across the flap.
The use of seals on letters and documents can be traced back to the Old Testament and I’ve always thought it a lovely way to close an envelope with a personal logo, totem or initial.
Here, I found an array of Italian-​made seals along with an assortment of richly colored waxes. I fell hard once again.
All things considered, given the things that I love and that interest me, I should have been born a few hundred years ago.
Both the owners showed me some new sealing techniques which include using both wax and ink stamps. I walked out with two new seals, an assortment of inks and quality wax sticks and I’m all set now to emblazon the envelopes on my soon to be written out Christmas cards and envelopes.
If you’re into beautiful pens and good inks as my husband is, this too is your place.
There is a wide variety from which to choose of both.
There are many things here that would make wonderful and unique gifts.
