Old New Orleans Rum

Whenever we go on vacation, we try to take a tour where alcohol is made. By far, this is the best tour we have been on! We LOVE the commitment to using everything local. A must do if you are visiting New Orleans!

Wow, we went on the tour of distillery, bus (shuttle)… picked us up and took us there. Bob was our driver and tour guide… he was great, very informative and funny! I learned a whole bunch of things and some math & science along the way. The rum favors were awesome… I purchased the crystal and Cajun spice… but I really want to get the King creole… hands down it was the best tasting run I have ever had. I live in Columbia S.C. and I will be ordering my rum from Old New Orleans… Must do, if your visiting New Orleans or on vacation.

Such an awesome place to visit. Make sure you do the tour, it’s totally worth it. It’s off the beaten path a bit, but there is plenty of street parking and a shuttle you can takw from the French Quarter.

For $ 12 you are picked up, given a fun and very informative tour about rum, and do some fab taste testing of about 5 drink varieties. Bob the tour guide is funny, welcoming and made the tour really a great time.

The rummery offers an occasion tour throughout the day. One of their staff members that wears many hats with the organization walks you through the process of making their rum. They show you the different equipment pieces that process the rum and the history of rum making in New Orleans.
One the tour they let you sample the raw «fire water» that goes into creating the rum. After the tour, you are allowed to try all four runs they make and bottle. The gingerroo is one of their unique rums that is blended with ginger and has a spicy after taste to it. The three other rums are traditional rums-​all were good but my favorite was the spiced rum. Fun fact they have a 20 year old rum that is blended with rum that survived Hurricane Katrina.
For $ 12-​you get a rum mixed drink at the beginning of the tour. A tour full of fun facts and light hearted jokes. Sample tastings after the tour. Overall great experience.

We had such a fantastic time here! No comes to pick you up in a mini bus from the back of the French market. This is included in the price of the ticket if you book in advance. Then you are driven a few minutes down the road (too far to walk though), then Bob does the tour! You are given a choice of cocktails and a bread intro, then shown round the distillery. It isn’t that big, but if was really interesting and informative. Afterwards we tried some neat rum, which was mostly delicious. I bought a tshirt and a bottle of Gingeroo-​you can’t get it in the U.K. I would definitely go back!

Excellent time here. Been on the tour twice now and highly recommend it. Drink rum, and learn about the history of the brewery and how it’s made.

This was such a fun thing to do while we were in town! It’s definitely worth venturing off of Bourbon Street and checking out Celebration Distillery for the tour and tasting. There was a couple in the group who actually lived in New Orleans, so it was nice to see that this was something locals checked out as well. We took an Über to the distillery but took a free shuttle that dropped us off in the French Quarters. My favorite was the Cajun Spice rum and the Gingeroo was good, too. They will ship to your state if you don’t have room in your carry-​on, except for certain states that have strict laws (including NY) but they let us know that Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s carry their beverages, so I will be hunting them down to find some New Orleans Rum!

The staff was really friendly and they had a great tour. We had a lot of fun while we were here but I just did not like any of the rum they made. It is a very cool unique thing to do while in town but the rum just wasn’t for me. I would recommend that others visit but I won’t be back.

I have done many distillery tours and they all vary so I have learned one thing, do not have any expectations.
We paid about $ 12 for the tour. Make sure you go online and book, they sell out on weekends.
The main setback to this company and I hope they work on this is that we bought our tickets online with a shuttle from the French Quarter but never got an email, phone call or text as to where or what time the shuttle would pick us up. We called for 2 days in a row before our tour and never got a live person to answer our question. At least leave it on the machine guys. Needless to say, we paid extra and Ubered here. FYI our driver said it was in a very bad part of town (aren’t all distilleries though?) so don’t wander off.
I can’t be mad that when we arrived they had a sweet tea rum concoction waiting for us. We drank as much as we wanted and as we waited patiently for all the people on the tour to arrive.
Bob was our tour guide. What sweet man. He clearly enjoys the tour and teaching everyone about the rum process. We got to see the distillery process, bottling and even learned how they survived Katrina.
It was very informative and fun. I enjoyed tasting all of the different rums at the end of the tour.

We should have known from the beginning that this would not have been worth our trip.
We found the distillery online and even an ad that boasted by one ticket get one half off. However there was no coupon code, and no option on their website to get the deal. We tried several times on two different days to call, however no one answered. All we could get was a prerecorded message on an answering service — that did not allow us to leave a message. We were excited to do the tour, so we forked out the extra $ 3 each for the full ticket.
They also advertised transportation to and from the distillery. However, again, nothing said how or where to get the shuttle. We thought, for sure if we purchased the tickets with the shuttle option they would email us information. Nope. We tried calling again, but still no answer. We just ended up paying an Über driver to take us out… more money out of pocket for us AGAIN.
We arrived to see that there was actually a person who sat right next to the phone. No idea if she was supposed to answer it. We also considered the idea that perhaps that was our tour guide and no one manned the phone during tours — we were wrong.
While this was my first tour of a rum distillery, I was expecting more. The tour guide, who we later found out was also the shuttle driver, was very enthusiastic. It was plain to see he enjoyed his job. I am sure he was doing what he had been trained to do, but it was not very exciting. Most of the tour we looked at rum barrels and distillers while the process was explained. There wasn’t too much to engage the crowd visually or mentally. Many of us on the tour just followed along like unenthusiastic kids on a school trip.
The sweet tea rum we were offered while we waited was quite wonderful. If that was a bottled option to buy I would have done so. There was a brief rum tasting at the end. Mind you, not everyone can drink plain rum, but we tried. Most of us on the tour were sneaking away to the trash can. I think most of us wanted to know how the sweat tea concoction was made. All in all, there is so much to do in NOLA that I wouldn’t recommend the trek out.

The distillery tour was a highlight of our recent vacation to New Orleans. For $ 12 a person in include a round trip shuttle ride, a welcome drink, and a interesting tour. The tour guide/​shuttle driver/​bar «tendress» Diana was great. She was very fun and knowledgable. The rum samples were all great. I am a huge fan of rum and have had many different kinds. This sure ranks up there among the best. The spiced rum is superb. The little cayenne kick is perfect. What makes this rum special is that it is a true small batch special! They do it all once they acquire their Louisiana molasses. Don’t miss the opportunity to check this place out.

I had the pleasure of visiting ONOR with my friend and had an amazing experience. Diana schooled me on the rum making process and served up on some tasty cocktails. If you’re in New Orleans, head on over.

This was a surprisingly awesome getaway from the usual stuff. This place had an amazing story from its origin to Hurricaine Katrina to its ore sent endeavors and future vodka products.

this was such a charming tour. for $ 12, they will pick you up at the french market and shuttle you to the distillery, about a 10 minute ride away. inside you get to sample a rum cocktail, and then get led on a very informative and cute tour. the tour guide was very knowledgeable and kept the tour light and funny.
after the tour you get to sample some of their rums (and if you’re super nice, maybe they’ll pour some extra for you). definitely a good time. if you plan to buy some rum, souvenirs, or what have you, seems they don’t have a cash on hand much, so bring a credit card.
you can buy tickets online in advance.
also don’t be a jerk like me, and show up late for the shuttle. you have to board the shuttle 30 minutes prior to your tour time. the whole shuttle had to wait for my jerk-​ass, 10 minutes late :(
after they shuttle you back to the french market, you should also take advantage of walking around the market and eating your way through it. yum!

Six words: great tour, great rum, great business
I was in New Orleans for vacation in November and we were planning on going to a wine tasting. But our flight had been delayed and by the time we got to New Orleans we were exhausted. So after we slept through the wine tasting, I went searching for an alternative and found this!
We didn’t get tickets in advance — we literally just walked up. Well, we took an Über here. It’s on Frenchmen Street but it’s nowhere near the French Quarter so you will probably have to take a cab, Über, or the shuttle they offer (if you order your ticket in advance).
The tour itself was great! We started off with some drinks and then got to tour their facility. Learned a bunch about rum and about the processes they have for their different rums. The facility is an old cotton house and they did experience damage from Katrina. You can see the waterline and they will probably tell you about the barrels that somehow survived Katrina that now sell for an insane amount by the bottle.
The rum tasting at the end was wonderful. The Gingeroo was amazing and we ended up taking a bottle home with us.
If you’re in New Orleans and are interested in something that is not ultra-​touristy (there were even some locals on our tour), check this out. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon.

This place was pretty cool! Sign up with them online and arrange a free shuttle to their place. My boyfriend and I made the mistake of trying to find this place on our own and $@#t got weird under the overpass on Frenchman St. Our shuttle driver, bartender and tour guide put on an impressive one man show. I won’t give too much of the tour away, so all I’ll say is that it was informative without being too reminiscent of chemistry class and the drink samples were good, too. Bring some spending money because you’ll want to leave with some of their rum. We bought the spiced rum for holiday drinks and the Gingeroo.

The Old New Orleans Rum Distillery may be a bit off the beaten path, but it’s well worth the journey. Here are some things that set ONOR apart from the rest.
The building has a lot of character. It’s an old cotton storage warehouse and you can almost feel the history as you step inside. The waterline from Katrina is also visible, and is likely to be mentioned in your tour.
The rum is delicious and unique. If you want something extra special, be sure to save some room for Gingeroo, which is the only carbonated rum I’ve ever had. On top of being tasty, the price points are very reasonable (I don’t believe any bottle is over $ 30).
The artwork is incredible. James Michalopoulos, the owner and a prominent artist who has designed 6 posters for Jazz Fest has many original works displayed throughout the space (and even adorning the rum bottles). If you’re an art lover, this is worth the trip alone!
Definitely worth a visit while in the Crescent City!

What a random delight to find in NOLA!
We were there just for Easter weekend and had our schedule jam-​packed full of tours and sight-​seeing. We saw reviews for this tour on a sight that claimed it was a «hidden gem» and man, were they right!
To start off– were picked up/​dropped off at no cost, which is very valuable when you don’t have a car on vacation. Our guide, Richard, was kind, funny, and knowledgeable about the workings of the distillery and made it a very positive experience. We got to try pure alcohol (just the tip of our finger’s worth), which was wonderfully bizarre, and of course, we were allowed to sample all of their other products. Personally, my favorite part was being able to see the watermark that hurricane Katrina left behind (standing at 8ft high), it was powerful to be able to witness such a thing.
You can also send alcohol to yourself so you don’t have to take it on the plane! I ordered Gingeroo and the Cajun Spiced Rum, both excellent.

We had a private event hosted here while our group was visiting and it exceeded all expectations. Our event included unlimited complimentary drinks of two varieties, a full dinner (salad, bread, pasta (YUM!), brisket, red beans and rice, and jambalaya. The food was fantastic! The drinks were great! We also had a tour, hosted by Patti, which was just the right level of detail and was clearly optional for those who wanted to continue to chat in the outdoor or indoor areas. At the conclusion of the tour, we sampled four products (again generous pours) and had the chance to make purchases. For $ 25, I would say I easily ate/​drank my money’s worth!
This was a great evening option for our group to have a NOLA experience that was a little off the beaten path and outside the French Quarter. I’m not sure what one could expect when going on their own without a private event, but for the event, it was top notch.
My only recommendation: up the air conditioning in the tasting room. I know it’s NOLA and all, but this midwesterner can only handle so much of the heat!

We had a lot of fun taking the tour here. It was nice to have a free ride from the French Quarter given the distillery is a little ways away from the Quarter. This place is was on an old really bumpy street so be prepared to either drive slow or feel like your being thrashed around while on the bus.
We waited for about 15 minutes after arriving for the tour to start. During this time we were given and ice tea with rum, which was really good. Our tour guide for the distillery was ok. We was a little weird for my liking with very dry jokes, but he taught a lot about the distillery, it’s processes and history.
After we finished the tour the tour guide poured us samples of all their different products. He was a very good salesmen by explaining everything you would want to know about the liquor you were about to drink. We ended walking away with a few bottles of our own an learned the shop to Oklahoma when we want more.
The tour was totally worth it and we will be back on our next trip to New Orleans.

This was the first stop during my New Orleans trip and what a welcome it was. Having done a few beer tours, I found them to be informative and enjoyable. This tour however was more fun because it was interactive.
Lead by an older guy with that good ol southern charm, the group learned about the history of rum and how this particular distillery came to be. From the history of the owners to the specific taste of their rum, everyone came away knowing all there was to know about rum.
The best part was the tour guide letting everyone taste the rum in its moonshine form before its concocted into a specific blend of rum. As only an older gentleman could, he dipped his finger in the moonshine, tasted it, and encouraged us to do the same. I was hesitant, but after he explained that it’s essentially gasoline and will kill germs on contact, I joined in he fun.
The tour ends with a really cool rum tasting that allows you sample all the various blends. In all honestly, the rum isn’t that good. The overall experience however, is worth every penny and is a great way to learn about this great liquor from a southern perspective.

We were told by some of our friends back home that this was one of their favorite parts of their last trip to Louisiana.
We were also told that they offer shuttles to and from. This was awesome advice because we didn’t want to drive.
The shuttle picked us up in the French market, directly behind the Organic Banana smoothie shop.
The distillery is located in a pretty rough looking area. Don’t worry though because the people there took great care of us.
The tour started and ended in the gift shop. So many neat rum related items among various artwork. We chatted with a nice couple from London while looking at everything.
The workers almost immediately poured us all a delicious peach sweet tea and crystal rum cocktail. By far my favorite cocktail.
As I looked at the bottles of rum I couldn’t help but wonder how much they costed because there were no prices listed. Maybe they change it fairly often?
After 20 – 30 minutes the tour started. Our guide called himself an actor and therefore discouraged difficult questions because he had no knowledge about the finer workings behind distillation. I found many of his remarks to be dry humor and sometimes insulting. Definitely wouldn’t be friends with this guy in real life.
I was genuinely curious about the distillation process and the history of the company. All of which he covered in his speech.
During the tour, I enjoyed sampling the 180 proof rum which I feel was like a once in a lifetime opportunity. It was really hot and yet smooth. Absolutely unexpected.
Towards the end of or tour we saw the bottling process which was interesting.
Then back to the gift shop for the end of our tour and 5 free samples! 4 and then you get another when you show him on your phone that you liked them on Facebook.
Totally worth it! And they have military discounts available.

Like most brewery tours, distillery tours tend to not be very distinctive. For the most part, if you’ve seen one, you’ve seem ‘em all. What set this distillery tour apart for me was the quality of our tour guide, a salty, entertaining older gentleman whose name I sadly do not recall. Sure, we toured all the barrels, pipes, and vats that are essential to the distillation and maturation processes, but what made this tour much more fun than most were all the colorful stories and little bits of history that our guide would pepper in among his explanations of the more prosaic aspects of a distillery.
And then, of course, there was the sampling. Our welcome cocktail was a simple, but effective combination of their spiced rum, and sweet tea. I don’t usually think of rum and tea as going together, but here the combo was addictively refreshing. I think this has more to do with the unique cayenne/​cinnamon/​ginger/​clove spicing going on in Old New Orleans’ very tasty spiced rum… dumping some Bacardi into a jug of sweet tea would not fare as well.
After the tour, we tasted all the rums on offer, by themselves. They are obviously outstanding rums for cocktails, but they are also smooth enough as to be sipping rums, should one be so inclined. This distillery also makes a product called Gingeroo. This is a bottled rum cocktail with ginger juice, cayenne, and cane syrup — a definite must for anyone who loves a good ginger bite as much as I.
Service is exceptional as well. I wanted to bring a few bottles home, but had no room in our luggage. No problem — I was able to purchase 2 bottles of the spiced rum, plus a bottle of the Gingeroo, and they shipped the bottles to my office in Miami. Shortly after returning home, I was enjoying Old New Orleans’ spiced rum in my own cocktail creations. Highly recommended for visitors of the Crescent City and locals alike.

PACKED TOUR WITH GREAT SAMPLES
Tucked into the quieter side of Frenchman Street, this Distillery’s focus is on its handful of Rum. Typical street parking is nearby however if you’re in the French Quarter, a complimentary shuttle will bring you to the paid tour and back.
YUM YUM AND RUM
Your tour already begins with a sample of simple, Sweet Tea made with their Spiced Rum. Insanely smooth and not too sweet – I could picture myself serving this during picnics. Following the tour you taste their whole line up. While a couple were served as straight mini shots, the other half was enhanced by small additions of lime or juice. I loved it all. Very quality stuff. Their Gingeroo was most unique with strong Ginger spikes and strong fizzies.
MILDLY WANDERING TOUR
The Distillery itself isn’t that big but the tour was packed with information and stops relating to where they source the Sugar, the heating vats, wooden keg storage, purity of alcohol and even the bottling area. Although the machines weren’t noisy, our tour guide (older gentleman) sometimes couldn’t project loud enough onto the group of about 30. A couple times he’d say «I don’t think I mentioned this earlier…» then say something he said minutes ago. But he was still very informative and covered all grounds – just not very engaging. Meanwhile his partner who handled registration and selling (young, artsy lady) was normally texting in the background and looked like she was forced to work that day.

Solid distillery tour. We’ve been on a lot of brewery tours so thought we’d give this a go.
Booked online for $ 12 a person ($ 10 + $ 2 online fee) and were able to get on the free shuttle from the French Market. Place is in a strange part of town so I recommend getting on the shuttle if you don’t have a car. It transports you there and back.
Tour itself was relatively informal but had some good information. Lasted about 20minutes and covered the fermentation, distillation, and bottling process. Our shuttle driver actually ended up being the tour guide. Super sweet guy but happily responded with «I don’t know» to what appeared like simple questions — «what’s the difference between rum and vodka» and «how many bottles can the company package with all the manual bottling and labeling equipment a day.» We assume he is not the typical tour guide and would have expected someone with a little more knowledge of the company and process.
Rum itself is really good and nice that they give you a complimentary cocktail upon check-​in. Tour ends with a solid amount of tastings of all their rum + their bottled Gingeroo cocktail.
Quick Tip:
If you’re considering booking most hotels and maps have a coupon so look out for that before making a reservation!

This place is tricky to find, but so worth it!
My hotel gave us a coupon for a distillery tour. $ 8 a person for bus transportation to and from the distillery, a tour, 4 shots of rum, and a mixed drink. This price is unbeatable!
The distillery is a bit out of the city, but the tour guide was a great storyteller and kept us entertained. The rum was really tasty but I would suggest bringing a chaser if you’re not a big rum fan.
As a designer, my favorite part was seeing all the bottle designs. The designer used to change the labels every few months, but then decide to just keep the insides different, to keep the brand recognizable. It was really cool to see the progression of the designs!

I’ve been to this location for a tour as well as for a fashion show. I love the versatility of this distillery.
As you walk through the doors you get the intoxicating (literally) smell of rum. The barrels surrounding the location are just pretty cool and give character to the location. The tour brings you through a pretty strong history of the industry along with tasting of some of their yummies. One the other hand the location being used for fashion shows gave it character with the ability to create a run way.
I really like the location. The main issue is it may be hard to find especially for those not from New Orleans. If you are attending something at this location make sure to stick to directions to ensure no issues. Also note, this section is not well populated or lit so be careful of your surroundings as well.
