Stopped here twice during a five day trip: once for coffee and treats, another time for breakfast. Both experiences were excellent. The warm cinnamon roll was delicious, as was the chocolate almond crescent roll. For breakfast, the biscuits and gravy hit the spot.

I am a boudin snob and search high and low for boudin in this city as good as boudin in cajun country outside Lafayette and am mostly dissapointed both by taste ad over pricedness. Well I did not feel that way about cake café boudin king cake. Whoever boudin they use is magnificent ad I literally picked apart my king cake. The boudin by itself had good flavor. It had alot of meat in it and a good about of seasoning not so spicy. I loved the bacon chunks on top and that syrup? Painted on the cake was the perfect touch! I wish they sold it year roud.

This place use to be my go to bakery for my birthday cakes until 2012 when I ordered their signature red velvet for my b-day which I was totally disappointed in. Not only was the cake burnt and dried it looked liked something I made in a beginners cake decorating class. Fast forward to Monday(December 28, 2015) I called in after having moved away almost 3 years to TN and wanting to give this place a second chance, so I call to place an order for a cake. I was told Steve, the owner will call me back to place my order… lets just say I’m not getting a cake. I really want to like this place but the inconsistency from the owner himself is horrible! I know now to look elsewhere! I have had some great cakes from here but I will be looking for somewhere else, so buyer beware and just go in for cupcakes! UPDATE: Around 12:30 on December 31st, 2015, we pulled up there with reluctance from me but only going due to my bestie insisting we stop there. I got her a birthday cake there a couple of years ago that was the absolute cutest and most flavorful birthday cake we have ever had and she has been wanting to recapture that ever since ! Ok anyways, so it seems like a lot of people were leaving and an employee was there stating that they were closing due to running out of food and being closed the next day on New Year’s! We explained we only wanted cupcakes and he checked to make sure they had some and surprisingly they did! We were so excited he let us in(I think his name was Justin)! He was incredibly amiable and sympathized when I told him about me calling in for a cake with no call back. So upon ringing me up for my total he gave us the cupcakes for $ 1 a piece and apologized no one got back to me! In an era of horrible customer service, I was surprised and grateful for this small gesture and vow to return due to this great employee! You rock sir and because of you I had to come back an update my review! Thanks so much!

This café should be at the top of your list for carnival season. Their king cakes are amazing. There are many options: traditional, cream cheese, pecan cream cheese, raspberry cream cheese and apple goat cheese. This is also the only place that has brown babies too. There are great omelets served with the BEST biscuits in New Orleans! Super fresh, soft and accompanied by delicious fresh berry jam. The set up is a little crazy: order at the counter and get your own coffee. But the hostess is very helpful with organizing seats for you while you are in line. She showed us our table just as we were finished paying.

Five stars Six stars ONEMILLIONGOLDSTARS! I loved this café and bakery to pieces! It was probably the place that I enjoyed visiting most during my trip to NOLA earlier this month for many reasons. 1.) My lunch. Oh my god. OHMYGAWD… The crab sandwich! I am going back to NOLA in March and if I can’t have another one I will weep, true and sincere tears. Crabmeat, bacon, spinach and brie grilled onto delicious, thick perfectly crisped bread. I dipped it into the Crystal’s hot sauce(that I noticed lots of the restaurants had stashed around). OHHOW I LOVEDTHISLUNCHSO! 2.) The staff was so kind. I had called looking around for a King Cake to take home to my kiddos and i’d heard the ones at Cake Café were the best around. So I called up, they took my order for a raspberry cream cheese and a pick-up time. A few minutes later the same employee called back and sincerely apologized that his coworker had sold the last raspberry cream cheese«right out from under his nose» at the same time we’d been on the phone. He assured me the apple goat cheese was what their bakery was know for, if I wanted to give it a try… and it was SO delicious! But sadly my kiddos were unimpressed after I carted the huge thing home on the airplane.(Okay really this isn’t sad at all. I ate that whole damn cake myself in four days time. It was that freakin’ good!) These King Cakes were most like pastry dough, than cake batter, and then stuffed with the apple and goat cheese, and then drizzled in the classic purple, gold and green frosting. It was a perfect true King Cake experience.

Yes it’s crowded and yes you have to stand in line to order at the register, and then, hopefully they can find you a seat. It’s a hassle but well worth it for the breakfast. We enjoyed it so much that we went back two days later as we were leaving town. Our group of six ate a bit of everything, from omelettes, hash, boudin sausage, grits, cupcakes and pastries. They also make their own jelly but you have to ask. If you want good food go. If you want quiet 5 star service in an orderly fashion this might not be the place for you.

I like to think of this place as more bakery than restaurant. Come here to satisfy all your bfast/brunch needs! We popped in for some coffee and pastries before we headed out for the day, and there was a line out the door! Luckily, that was only for people sitting down and ordering. We shared a king cake(first one, delicious!) and ham/cheese danish. Both delicious. I love that you can see them baking everything in the back. Seems like a very authentic, down-home type of café.

Great breakfast spot with big buttery biscuits. Stopped here a couple months ago with some friends and had a wonderful experience. Great shrimp and grits and egg dishes. A very popular joint especially on weekends. During Mardi Gras season they have great King Cake selection. Along with Elizabeth’s this is a great brunch spot in the Marigny/Bywater area.

Is it a bakery, is it a restaurant, it’s not a place to hang out and have coffee. I have mixed feelings about my experience there. I had breakfast. I tried the eggs boudin and chose a biscuit instead of toast. I thought the jumble at the counter trying to get a menu and look at the case was irritating. People jostling to try to get a look while you’re figuring out what to do. Same thing with the coffee service bus station. I have a suggestion, suck it up and serve tables. It’s a small space and this didn’t work for me. The long line of people standing next to people sitting and trying to enjoy their food really is lame. Getting up to refill my cup of coffee and standing in line while my food gets cold isn’t great either. How about some hospitality? The staff is friendly and seem competent. Give them a chance to earn some tips. The food was ok. My over medium eggs were hard and my wife’s over medium eggs were easy if that. The grits were good. We both got a pretty good biscuit but they only brought jam for one. I think there’s better breakfast around New Orleans. Miriam really liked her shrimp and grits so maybe I should have ordered that. I never got a good look at the pastry case but would like to have. Maybe I would stop by on another occasion to get some to go if in the neighborhood.

While I love just about everything from Cake Café, this review is about their cakes. The photo is of the cake I got for our daughter’s birthday. It was really good and so pretty. We totally love this spot for breakfast, but they’re just as good for lunch. I highly suggest the roasted veggies in the omelette or sandwich — it comes with creamy goat cheese! Also, my husband loves the boudin and eggs, while the kiddos are happy with tasty scrambled eggs and toast. A family friendly atmosphere and moderate prices.

Absolutely love the place and love the staff that works here. The food is great, the baked goods are great, and the service is great. A few suggestions: 1) They take your order when you first walk-in, near the registers 2) I try to go during(semi) off hours so I don’t have to fight the crowd 3) I like to sit outside, but be weary of all the pigeons! 4) get the lumpcrab cake

New Orleans Café and Bakery is truly a neighborhood gem in Marigny district, a few minutes drive or walk from the French Quarter. This place ambiance is casual and self service. I ordered Biscuit and Gravy, a gravy over a fresh-baked biscuit, topped with Andouille sausage. It was made fresh and very flavorful. Whilst they specialize in creating hearty meals, they also offer wide variety of desserts and custom made cakes. In nicer weather, there are tables outside for dining as well. I love this place, it’s definitely on my list of restaurants to visit again in New Orleans.

Best damn shrimp and grits i had in NOLA. The biscuits i can live without tho. oh and the sweets! The cupcakes are amazing… thick but soft, with a flavorful frosting that will punch you in the face with flavor! So good! the fried potatoe salad is a must, and trust me when it comes out, you will be confused just as much as i was… since its actually a few balls! three balls of fried potatoe salad, at first i thought i was being served meat balls! but they are intense, crunchy on the outside, but the inside is soft and mushy and even has a bit of a curry and potatoe taste. Despite it being packed, the service system here is perfectly organized, we didnt have to wait long and we got our food within a decent time.

Eats: strawberry deliciousness pastry, ham and cheese stuffed croissant Drinks: cucumber lemonade, iced cold brew We went to grab a quick breakfast before going on the Swamp tour. We were greeted with the sweetest and friendliest staff. Both of the pastry were fresh and delicious.(All their pastries are baked on site). The iced cold brew was one of the best I’ve ever had and the cucumber lemonade was super refreshing and light(perfect for the dehydrating weather). They have an endless selection of baked goods, as well as an extensive plated breakfast menu. Great cozy spot with good service, yummy food, a clean environment and no crowds!

I confess; I don’t get out to the Marigny/Bywater as much as I should. Other than the occasional Pizza Delicious run, I usually just consider the drive from Uptown to be too annoying. I drove out to Cake Café for lunch and I wasn’t disappointed. I wanted a light lunch so I ordered the Crab Salad with a cupcake for later. The Crab Salad was local crabmeat, presented beautifully on a bed of greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions. The wheat toast on the side was a nice touch. I loved the taste of the tomato vinaigrette but it was really thick which made pouring it all over the salad difficult. The wedding cake cupcake for dessert was very good. The staff is super awesome and I love the vibe of the place. Definitely a great spot in this part of town!

Food here is hella good, plainly put. I know this part of town is flooded with amazing places to eat, as is the case with most of our city. It’s nearly impossible to get to try everything nola has to offer considering spots seemingly closing and opening weekly. Found my way here during a solo mission to the Marigny. For some strange reason, as of late, i’ve been waking up before Jesus and the Athiests, so my need for breakfast has been a growing one. Also being that breakfast is easily my favorite meal and I could eat it all day, I’m picky about my precious! I browsed over the menu, but decided on one of the daily specials. It was crawfish andouille and eggs, a biscuit, iced coffee and a strawberry lemonade which was probably way too much of a sugar rush for that early in my day but it was much needed, and satisfying. Place your order at the counter, give your name, and your food will be brought out to you. Note, they do not take orders at tables, you must go to the counter to place an order. I sat outside, it was a really nice day, and i always appreciate a place where you can enjoy the outdoors. Tables are wobbly but thats because it’s nola and we live over a swamp, i don’t think leveled grounds exist here, or last very long. Anyway, everything was really good, the eggs were cooked perfectly(over-medium), the peppers, onions and crawfish went so well together, definitely a heartier breakfast but not overbearing, no heartburn or anything like that. Everything came on a bed of grits which were the right consistency. Needed no salt or pepper, everything on the plate was made just right to taste. I’ll certainly venture from Mid City to here for a quality breakfast, well worth any wait and price!

My boyfriend helped build all of the new tables in there and the bus station and what not… so he’s been trying to get me to go for awhile. Finally we had the chance together to go and I was so pleased I did!!! I ordered the boudin and eggs and he got the biscuits and gravy. BOTHWEREAMAZING! Probably the best biscuits ever and the gravy was by far the best I’ve had in a long while since his mother made it for us! Eggs were cooked perfectly(I got them fried/over easy) and the boudin was flavorful and perfectly cooked. Even the grits were amazing! The iced coffee here is really strong but tasty. And everything came out to us quickly. I definitely will be going to this place again. Only thing missing from this place are mimosas.

Let me say I am a huge fan of corned beef hash, and having a fresh made corned beef hash on the menu is a quick way to my heart as a breakfast place. This particular version of the dish was quite tasty. It had gigantic chunks of meat that had that great tenderness and spice that you look for in corned beef. Combine that with the lovely crispness you get from cooking that hash and it has everything you want. crisp exterior soft carmelized onions and great potatoes. The eggs from my dish could have been held up as an example for the culinarly world of what over easy eggs should be. My biscuit was nothing particularly spectacular to be honest. I am not a huge fane of biscuits, but when I do have one I want one where it is so tasty that I can eat the biscuit alone. This was not the case. It’s not that the biscuit itself couldn’t be saved by a bit of jam or syrup, it’s just why does it need to be? It was light and fluffy and rose pretty tall but when you’re making a dish that is essentially created by cutting lots of cold fat into flour to make a dough, then you want to actually taste the fat, the buttery richness(or better yet lard). As for the boudin(which was my first time trying that particular dish) it was fantastic. There is a little bit of rice inside and it is fried pretty crisp on the exterior. It wouldn’t be something I passed up on a return trip. The pastries in the window looked delightful but unfortuantely I forgot to order one, and I meant to get one before we left but I by the time I remembered we were already a few blocks away.

Another update for this awesome place. I haven’t been in a couple of months so as a treat, I came(knowing they would have mini king cakes for me to take home for later) today and realized how much I miss this place. I had the corn beef hash(homemade, very yummy) and coffee. For a huge breakfast, coffee and a desert to go all under $ 20! I mean HUGE!!! I really love the food, the employees and the atmosphere. Come for a great meal. If you leave hungry, you did something wrong!
