Oh McMain, how I love thee… The school of my Junior High School & High School years.
Affectionately called the Birthday Cake School because of the look of tiers & the colors.
The school faces the corner Nashville & Claiborne, St Joseph & Claiborne; across the street from Ursuline Academy & down the way from Alcee Fortier currently Lusher.
At the time of my attendance, this school was 2nd in the district, only to 1st in Louisiana, Benjamin Franklin High School. Unfortunately, post-​katrina, they no longer hold this distinction.
3 floors. Large 2 storied auditorium thats often utilized for non-​McMain School functions. Spacious classrooms. Moderate cafeteria area for the student body.
3 stars because the condition of the building post-​katrina. I’ve heard of negative events & press as it relates to McMain; it saddens my heart to see a once GREAT school allowed to be run in the ground for lack of concern by the powers that be.
