Make Me Up

I love this place! I made a last minute appointment with Celeste and it turned out great. Arrived on time to a cute little house that was clearly a business, Celeste got right to work on my face, asking me what I wanted and didn’t want. While she was busy making me beautiful for the NKOTB concert her and her coworker entertained us with stories of past events. My makeup turned out amazing and the false lashes stayed on for 5 days ;)

I came in looking for an SPF powder. The owner was knowledgable, friendly and laid back. She did not try to push any sales on me and quickly found the right products for me. I mentioned that I was considering having my eyebrows done and she said there was someone in the back who could do them now, So, I had them done on the spot (by Brittany I believe) and she did an excellent job. I highly recommend this place

I’ve driven by this store for the past several months on my way to work and had been dying to go in. I’m by no means a professional but I absolutely love makeup, name brands and indie companies who make everything from home. I needed to pick up a gift for a co-​worker and found it to be the perfect opportunity to go and check this store out.
I walk in with a big smile all excited to see what goodies I will find and I’m greeted by a sad looking old lady with an attitude. She asks me if she can help me with anything and I tell her how excited I am to be here and check everything out to which she responds «Oh, Okay». I then ask her if they sell strictly name brands or if they have indie sellers as well to which she responds, «You mean independent? No. We ONLY sell name brand.» (as if anything else would be unacceptable). Well fine, I proceed into the main part of the shop where everything was and to my surprise it was… dirty, just plain dirty. Their samples were covered in makeup and whatever else and it was all just a mess and very unorganized. Half of these «name brands» I didn’t recognize and half of them were clearly homemade labels. It was just so weird… I wanted to test out one of the Too Faced pallets but not when it’s all dirty and unclean. I can’t imagine any of my makeup at home getting that messy and dirty. In the mean time this old lady was just blatently staring at me as if I was going to steal something. I mean, I get it. You need to look after your products but damn, she was watching me like a hawk!
Needless to say, I left very disappointed and sad to know that instead of supporting a local New Orleans shop that I was going to take my money to Sephora, where the products are clean and the people are more than friendly.

Wonderful service in a beautiful environment! Today I went to Make Me Up and had a beautiful Lavish organic spay tan. My color turned out great! No streaks and no orange, which is always a concern when you are pale and have never had a spray tan before.
It was such a comfortable environment, which is especially important when this service can be sort of awkward! But there was no awkwardness at all!!! These ladies made me feel very comfortable and they were highly courteous and professional. It didn’t break the bank either! I recommend this service and this establish for any event that you want to feel sun kissed!

I’ve gotten 3 airbrush tans from Schuyler and I have been really, really happy with them. Their hours are pretty inconvenient for those of us that work 9−5pm M-​F (they close at 5) but Schuyler has always been very nice and stayed later for me to get there. I would ideally like to buy my makeup at Make Me Up so I can support a local shop, but the hours are too limited. Still a great place, though!

This place is great! Not only can you go in and get your makeup done by a pro for a special occasion (or just a night out) but they sell makeup here too. The entire staff is really knowledgeable and can help you figure out what works for you (and what doesn’t).
They also do spray tanning and you and your friends can have a makeup party for a birthday or bachelorette party. It’s a really cool idea for something different.

Please be careful with this company. Their customer service is pretty bad. Do not sign any contract until you have had a chance to see if the makeup they give you truly works for you (which is good advice no matter what, I suppose).
I used their services for a makeup trial for an upcoming event. Unfortunately, while the makeup artist was very sweet, she did not do a good job on my face (I liked how I looked initially, but several people gave me some pretty strong negative responses to my makeup). Even worse, she did not give me appropriate makeup for my skin type. The makeup melted off within minutes of being outside.
Not realizing my makeup would wear off in one hour (I need it to last all day), I thought I would like to book them, but I wanted a bit of time to think about it. They encouraged me to sign a contract for my event as soon as my session was complete. They said if I didn’t sign, I was at risk of losing the girl who did my makeup (who I wanted until I realized I didn’t look good and that the makeup did not work for me). I asked if I could call back the next day, because surely she wouldn’t be booked in 24 hours, and they hinted that she would be and refused to give me a quick call to let me know if someone else offered interest in that date. Feeling tired, hungry, and stressed, I stupidly signed the contract.
Because of the bad job she did, the contract was canceled the next morning, less than 24 hours after I signed the contract. However, they refused to refund my $ 100 deposit. That was in their right to do, and yes, it was my fault. But it was simply terrible customer service. Having worked in small customer service business for years, I would have always refunded the $ 100 under the scenario I described. It was absolutely their fault that I had to cancel the contract. The fact that she didn’t refund such a small amount is an indication of pretty terrible customer service.

I had my wedding make-​up done by Celeste and so did all my bridesmaids. She did a great job. I was having skin issues that day (of course) and once she was done with me you really couldn’t tell. Some of my bridesmaids even tried to write down everything she used on them so they could recreate the look. She was also very nice and really listened to what you wanted to look like based on your personal style. My bridesmaids had very diverse skin colors and tones and she really found colors that brought out the natural beauty in all of them. I would highly recommend.

I was visiting New Orleans from Ny for my bachelorlette party and wanted to get my makeup done for fun. I find it so awesome they have these little makeup studios like this in New Orleans :) will definitely come back one day! I loved my makeup. Celeste did my makeup, totally recommend her. she also quickly responded to me on facebook which is where I originally found them. I wish we had places like this in Ny.

So I stopped in here on a whim to see if I could avoid a drive to the mall for my Bare Minerals face powder. Although they didn’t have Bare Minerals, MELISSA V, steered me in the direction of a mineral make up of higher quality, with an SPF 25, and made in Colorado called Glo Minerals. I also stumbled upon their $ 5 sale items which included high end cosmetic blush, eye shadow, powder, lip gloss, and Melissa helped me look through the sale baskets for colors that would work for me and educated me about the different name brands. Melissa also gave me samples of products that I was interested in but unwilling to commit to without a trial run. Loved, Loved Loved my experience. It’s also independently owned and operated. The furnishings are great too and pulled together by the owner and her mom. Support it!!!

I saw some pictures of Mardi Gras masks that can be glued on with eyelash glue and realized I had to have one. So, I did some recon and learned that they came from Make Me Up on Magazine Street. I’ve been by the location countless times and always admired their Lichenstein-​esque sign, but had never actually gone inside. So, I ventured out that way yesterday to pick up a mask for Carnival season.
All I have to say is WOW. I was not expecting all of the wonderfulness that I encountered when I went inside. The front room had the cashier counter and a huge Essie display. Okay, I’m digging it. Then, I go into the next room and they had makeup, makeup and more makeup– oh happy place. Smashbox, Paula Dorf and Clairsonic… plus a few lines that I am not (yet) familiar with. They also had a table with the masks that I was there to see and brought out some more from the back. I chose the one I wanted and then took a few minutes to peruse the makeup. I went dead set on sticking to a tight budget (I had just been to both Ulta and Sephora in the same week and was pretty well set in the cosmetic department), so I didn’t buy anything other than the mask (and, of course, some eyelash glue to use to put it on.) However, I definitely plan on going back when I’m in the market to do some more makeup shopping.
The two ladies who helped me were incredibly nice and helpful. I got a menu of their services and a card. I’m totally intrigued by these eyelashes they claim last for 14 days (and only cost $ 35.) They also will come to you to do the services. Maybe one day my ship will come in and I will have over all of my girlfriends for a big makeup and tanning party. When my nieces get old enough, I definitely plan to throw them a children’s makeup party.
All in all, I’m really glad I finally went in to Make Me Up and look forward to going back in the future.

It’s hot and I’m bored with all of my make up. I’ve gone to the mall superstore and have not found them superhelpful and the makeup counters at the department stores have been very hit or miss. So I decided to seek new make up at a boutique store on Magazine.
Cindy helped me and she was awesome. She worked with to find colors that really worked with my skin tones and not just under their lights but in real sunlight too. Loved the personal touch and the no hard sell attitude.
Plus they always seem to have colors on clearance somewhere in the store. Whim purchasing lipstick isn’t so bad when it’s $ 5.

i love the brands this store carries! Celeste is extremely helpful and knows exactly what she is doing. I had my makeup done by one of her artists for a wedding and i got so many compliments. love supporting small businesses especially this one.

Very negative experience. Went to makeup salon for a very important day since I was being filmed for a work related video. Young and inexperienced makeup artist with poor technique for $ 100. Very frustrated when I left because it looked like I had no eye lashes. She had used a primer and then mascara and my lashes were very small and stuck together. She tried applying mascara again and just handed me a new mascara because I had to leave for work. This was a total waste of money and time. Icing on the cake? The owner returned my call, apologized and said there was nothing she could do. Really? Oh she did do something — she charged me for the mascara that the young lady gave me because of my disappointment. When I called to inquire about the extra charge the owner was very negative and had a nasty unprofessional attitude. The owner obviously cares about nothing but bringing in revenue and not about a client’s satisfaction. I always want to shop local but you will NEVER find me in this place again.

I came here for a make up trial pre-​wedding, which was not cheap. Afterward, I (stupidly — don’t do this!) paid for my trial and the actual wedding day makeup, plus tip, plus eyelashes, plus bridesmaids makeup, plus whatever other charges were there. When I got home, my fiancé asked, «What did they do to your face?» I looked terrible. The foundation was caked on and was literally dripping off of me. A few days later, I called and spoke to the older woman about what happened (don’t remember her name) and she said they’d do another trial for me, free of charge. She then said they’d call me soon to book an appointment.
After a few weeks and no call back (not really a big deal because my wedding was months away), I just decided to do my own makeup. I didn’t want to have to worry about looking goopy on my wedding day. I called and spoke to that same woman again and asked to be refunded for the wedding day makeup. Her response? «The contract states that you only get 50% back.»
I had never signed a contract!
After some back and forth bickering, I was refunded everything (the woman was feeling in a ‘generous’ mood… HA!) I cannot recommend this place. If you go to Make Me Up, read that contract carefully, don’t sign it if you don’t feel comfortable, and don’t pay for services that you have not yet received!

Make Me Up is a great, cute little store on Magazine Street in the Garden District. They have a great selection of makeup lines and very fair pricing. A couple of my favorite lines that they carry are Glominerals, Lola, and I like the Dechant skin care essentials… all of which I use. Celeste and Schuyler are both very sweet! Make Me Up is a great stop when shopping Magazine Street!

Great! Celeste is more than happy to help you and answer your questions. Her make up ideas are phenomenal and the brands that she carries are great. She not only does make up, but also waxing and facials. It’s nice to be able to go to a local place and get great results.
