Lafayette Square

Just returned home from a great trip to Nola and we saw/​heard a great show from The Revivalists. Might have been the biggest crowd I’ve seen at these shows. I’ll be back next year for sure…
Wednesday At The Square:

Came here for Wednesday at the Square. The square in question is pretty small, but they found a way to jam pack a ton of stuff into it. Also walked through on a different day, and it’s really nothing special unless you’re the most touristy of tourists. There’s some statues, interesting sculptures, and what passes for grass. More of a semi-​green path to walk through.

Really nice, but kind of small park. Lafayette Square seems like the perfect place to kind of chill and take a break from your day. I could see this as a nice picnic spot if I lived there.
From what I’ve read before, this is a good place to see live music.
The park was clean and had plenty of trash receptacles to keep it that way.
Lots of sculptures for a small area and a huge statute of Henry Clay can be found here.
I liked it. I think if I lived here I would go here a lot to just relax, but as a tourist, maybe skip it if you’re pressed for time|

One of the downsides of visiting in the winter is that you could easily miss popular venues. When I walked through this area, this seemed like just another city park in the CBD. Not much happening here aside from some homeless folks hanging out.
Notable was:
Henry Clay statue: he was an American lawyer and politician who represented Kentucky in both the Senate and House of Representatives.
Bunny sculpture: obscure and fun.
Apparently this is a popular venue for concerts in the fall.

Cute little park in Lafayette Square that serves as a small observatory. A few structures, shrubbery & tiny walking path. Perfect for business people in the area to break away from the office and get a breath of fresh air.

Very cool small park in the CBD. It is a great venue for events. The big trees make this place very relaxing and the shade cools things off when it is hot outside. A good place to sit and eat or just relax.

We are staying at the Lafayette hotel and we walk our dog here a few times a day it’s a great park very pretty but I gave it 4 stars due to the constant homeless population there and I did see one of them pissing this morning not the best way to start the day

Came for Wednesday’s in the Square, great spot! They have local beer, food, artists, and music! Awesome way to spend a Wednesday early evening with friends or family. Dogs are allowed, and people of all ages seemed to be having a great time!

Lafayette Square is home to some of my favorite things about New Orleans.
First, just having this green space in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the CBD is really great. If I worked in this area, I’d like to think I’d spend most of my lunch breaks here taking in some sunshine to offset the pure meh-​ness of working in an office. In the evenings, you can catch countless people running or walking their dogs around the park, which can’t help but brighten your day.
Second, Lafayette Square hosts Wednesday evening concert series in the fall (Harvest the Music) and spring (YLC Wednesdays at the Square) to benefit local charities. These are not only great concerts with incredible, largely local bands, and access to tons of food and art from local vendors – with all proceeds going to a great cause – they’re also some of the most diverse crowds I witness anywhere in the city, at any type of event. Don’t matter where you came from, don’t matter where ya goin to; bring a blanket or a chair, grab a cold Abita beer, and shake your lil booty off. Love seeing people from all walks of life mingling and enjoying these awesome events.
Third, Lafayette Square hosts several other events throughout the year that are super easy to access since it’s right off the St. Charles Streetcar.
Love this place, and can’t wait until my next visit for something that’s sure to be wonderful!

I love this great piece of green space. They have some giant trees and some interesting sculptures all around the square. I have been taking my dog there and they provide poo bags. There are a few historical monuments here as well. I will continue to visit this place.

I always thought Lafayette Square was a wonderful green space but it has definitely has expanded past that for me. I recently attended a wedding here. The space is so open and gives the perfect view of the sky first off. That alone makes you want to smile. The space has such potential especially for small and medium weddings. The park is kept up really good in addition. This park also holds many festivals now. It’s truly a great multi-​use park and in a great location. It’s pretty easy part of the city to get to for locals and tourist alike.
Parking… Well if you get in the area by 6pm you may find some street parking but it is minimal. There are a few paid lots down St. Charles for you to utilize as well.

Lafayette square was booming with excitement this weekend as host of the Crescent City Blues and BBQ festival! I enjoyed seeing the crowds, exploring interesting local art displays, swaying to great tunes with a beer, and eating some good old New Orleans inspired BBQ! I tried the ribs layered in savory BBQ sauce, andouille and red bean jambalaya, huge hot wings, and creole lump crab cakes! I wanted to try the boudin sausage, charbroiled oysters, pulled pork po’ boys, and fresh cole slaw but I was already too full! The festival is still going on as we speak so, I might go again for another fun afternoon! Lafayette square is a large space so it wasn’t too overly crowded, it was clean, and the weather was great! It’s very bright, with dark, green leafy foliage, reminiscent of the Garden district, which is nice. Lafayette square is a historic space, great for festivals, and from what I’ve seen, would be a great place for a sunny picnic on a random day.

One lifetime bucket list item has now been checked off! The music for Blues Fest is simply incredible. We will hope to make this a regular stop on our annual travels.
The bbq is also out of this world. The music is free, the food is cheaper than you get elsewhere in the Quarter. Marriot courtyard was a perfct crash spot as it was only a couple of blocks away. Parking can be a pain, as usual in New Orleans.

Here’s a pretty little square near Harrah’s Casino New Orleans. The park is very historic so its cool to learn about the history of New Orleans and see some huge statues. It’s also fun just to take a walk through and sit down on a bench and take in the nature side of the city. There’s also some modern sculptures being built here. One is called «bunny». I was walking to a coffee shop called Haro which seemed the opposite away from everything and stumbled upon it. Check it out =)

Lafayette Square is a great place to grab some fresh air during the work day. It’s usually clean, although there may be a homeless man or two on any given day.
It’s also a great location for Wednesday at the Square and other small gatherings in the CBD. It’s the right size and had enough actual grass to bring a blanket, towel, or chair to sit on for the concerts.

3 stars is hard to explain here.
Generally, I see this public square as nothing more than a city park to give nearby office towers a view/​escape from their boring cubical job. The square is surrounded by court buildings and office complexes.
However, on the day I went, there was a free concert hosted by the New Orleans Saints. The music was modern jazz/​rock fusion. Its was lively and robust making everyone get out of their chair and enjoy the outdoors. Plus there were several food venders and liquor tents. Very pricey though!!!

Lafayette Square is the second oldest park in New Orleans, Louisiana and was designed in 1788 by Don Carlos Trudeau, general surveyor of Louisiana under the Spanish Crown. The Square was named after Gilbert du Motier, marquis de La Fayette, a French aristocrat and general who fought on the American side in the American Revolutionary War.
We stopped in and enjoyed Lafayette Square on a recent Sunday as part of a Blues and BBQ festival. It was a fun crowd, 2 stages, a bunch of booths, and some killer BBQ equipment. The Square seemed a little buried under all of that, but the character of this attractive and historical public square remained to be seen.

What an unexpected treat! As I was trekking through the City of New Orleans, I had my first chance to walk through Lafayette Square.
It was bigger than I thought, a block or so in size, but this was big enough to enjoy the shade and sun, the trees and grass.
Sometimes there are concerts here and there have even been a few demomstrations.
Now it is nothing to drive hours out of you way for. bu tif you are in the area stop by, enjoy the grass and trees, and get a little bit cultured.

I do quite like Lafayette Square! Now I only come here when there is Wednesdays at the Square to hear live music, eat the delicious food, and hang out with friends. Parking can be an issue if the parking lot next to the square is full but hey, that’s the CBD so get over it!
The park is quite lovely, it’s kept up pretty well. The eyes statue freaked me out a bit but hey, that’s modern art for ya. It’s in the heard of the CBD near the court house, walking distance to Lucy’s which is the go to place after the Square closes down.
I so quite like having green space interspersed in the urban jungle. It’s like Chicago where say what you will about the Chicago political machine and Mayor Daley, he did create tons of green space around the city which I appreciate! I should write an ode to Chi-​town. One of these days!

Lafayette Square is a welcome bit of green in a sea of concrete.
Surrounded by cool buildings, this is a great place to take a lunch break if you’re on trial for tax evasion or any of the various RICO statutes.
New Orleans has several of these small parks throughout the city, but Lafayette Square is my favorite. It is also New Orleans’ second oldest park.
The square is filled with cool statues and art. My favorite were the two eyes, but some scumbag stole part of them. There are also cool statues of Ben Franklin, John McDonough and Henry Clay.
