This is a great place to grab a drink and have a quick bite. I had the gumbo and it was delicious. We ordered two caffe burlot’s. They’re great cocktails made at only a few places in the French Quarter. We paid our bill and started to leave when the bartender told us to have a look around the place. It was amazing how many different rooms they have for dining and private parties. So many antiques and a wine cellar that’s 165 feet long with a ridiculous amount of wine. This place is amazing. You must see it for yourself.

Hermes is quiet the bar, attached to quiet the restaurant. I’d recommend eating here rather than at stuffy Antoine’s. We found a high top and ordered a lot of the starters. The alligator soup was really good. The appetizer sampler was just ok. The oysters Rockefeller were kinda crazy — so rich. I’d recommend trying it once, and here in its birthplace. The oyster Bellville was good, but at that point there were too many stuffed oysters around for us to finish them– they are so rich. I had an absinthe which was really good and strong. We also ordered the flaming alcoholic dessert coffee which came with a fun table side presentation.

Had drinks with friends before going to dinner. Our server was attentive and friendly. Drinks were good I had my favorite dark and stormy with goslings rum and ginger beer with lime. Delish!

So I’m sitting here next to the last reviewer that slammed this place with one star. The d-bag couldn’t be more wrong. Staff and beverages are wonderful, a step aside of the madness that the French Quarter is known for. Nice refuge during the craziness. Recommend!

With a group of friends at the bar today. My friend, who’s birthday it is, called the restaurant when they opened. They assured her we could order a Baked Alaska upon our 2 pm arrival. We ordered. The waitress informed us the kitchen was closed but she would check. The general manager came out to inform us that they would not be granting our request despite what the restaurant said they would do. We had already ordered several drinks by the time the GM got here. No concession was made towards us. We are going to the new Sucre location in the French Quarter for birthday desserts.

We had read about soufflé potatoes from Antoine’s while researching for our trip but ultimately decided it was not worth wasting a stop/meal on to try. But when we walked by the bar and had time to kill, we stopped in for a drink. Probably our least favorite experience on vacation… Happy hour is a pretty great deal, actually, and we got there early enough to get a seat by the window to people watch. Our server was nice, too. The food and drink we had were really meh though. We had happy hour champagne — it was pretty meh champagne, but for like $ 5 a glass who can complain? I just hope they don’t sell their happy hour champagne at a higher price because that’d be a rip off. The happy hour red tasted really old, like it was opened 5 days ago and tasted pretty bad. That really shouldn’t be the point of happy hour, to get rid of wine that’s too old to sell… Foodwise, the soufflé potatoes were both soggy and overfried, like they’d been fried too long and then reheated. Disappointing. Our server also suggested the 2−2−2 oyster app when I inquired about raw oysters(they don’t have raw). We tried that, and it was basically 2 of each of 3 different kinds of broiled oysters, including the Oyster Rockefeller that were invented there. Too much turd-shape piping of the topping of all 3 kinds, and they were all too heavy and covered the oyster, and underseasoned and bad. Really bad. We were such tourist suckers :( The bathroom was really clean though. Otherwise, our experience ranged from average to below average. Would not recommend… For better happy hour, we liked Compere Lapin in the CBD. For better old-school fancy bar atmosphere and good drinks, we preferred French 75 not too far away.

Waiting for Gordeau at an old favorite F Q watering hole, the Hermes Bar at Antoines; somebody has to do this! Restaurant is closed; but a classic Creole eatery for over a century!

You can order everything of the Antoine’s menu. Jessica, our bartender, took great care of us and gave us the low down places to eat. She was great company as well as the gentleman who sat next to us at the bar. We had the famous puffed potatoes and Oysters Rockefeller which were invented here and the recipe is top secret. If you’ve ever eaten Oysters Rockefeller and weren’t at Antoine’s you didn’t eat real ones! We also took a tour of restaurant and went up on the balcony. Great service and great food! Thank you Jessica and everyone at Antoine’s for a wonderful New Orleans experience.

Bleh. Disappointing. The food was not very good and it was overpriced. I would not recommend this place to anyone. So far it has been our worst meal here. The crab dish recommended by the waitress was bland and outrageously overpriced. The shrimp remoulade tasted like shrimp smothered in too much cocktail sauce. The potato puffs were super greasy. The waitress got part of our order wrong and gave us incorrect information about portion size. Even the bread was bad. The butter and my beer were the only decent items on our table.

Came in Sunday afternoon. This place was recommended by many. I may have been there the wrong time. The place was dirty as if not cleaned from the night before. I did enjoy my drink. The bartender was less than attentive even though there was only one other person at the bar. Not really sure if I would go back.

Here’s what you do: schedule this for an early– or mid-afternoon stop after a big awesome breakfast that morning. You won’t be ready for lunch, so pop in here around 1:30pm and order whatever you want off of the Antoine’s Menu! It won’t be crowded at all and you don’t need to be dressed up. Fair warning: Antoine’s kitchen stops serving at 2pm, so don’t be late! FYI, we got the appetizer sampler that included shrimp remoulade, fried eggplant, crab salad, and oyster foch. Look that last one up online if you’re curious. Interesting story. All of it was excellent!

We had to stop into one of the city’s oldest bars/restaurants celebrating 175years. Sitting at the bar for a Sazarac and a Pimm’s cup, Frankie, our bartender took great care of us. He entertained us with personal and local history and stories. This is the place you want to be to get the«goods». My husband and I ended up hanging out for a while enjoying the company, the cocktails, and the space. We would definitely go back.

Classy. Elegant. Great drinks, wonderful bar food… this is our spot when we’re craving a little fanciness but can’t spend the time or money on a full dinner at Antoine’s. Oyster Foch po-boy is amazing, and you can get Antoine’s signature puff potatoes here as well. Any time you bring me a dish of hollandaise for dipping, I’m in love.

If you’re interested in stopping by a historic bar for a quick drink, this is your place. While food is served in the bar area, it is much too noisy to enjoy a meal. Have your drink in the bar, but go in the main restaurant for the food. The drinks we had were all wonderfully made and tasted great.

Great, classy bar. Great and very engaging staff. Po’ boy was great but the Oysters Rockefeller were monumental. Drinks were quality and nice liberal pours. We dropped in here several times during our visit to NOLO. Thanks for the love.

Baked Alaska and Oysters Rockefeller were both created at Antoinne’s– the restauraunt attached to Hermes bar! This is a beautiful, historic bar known for their incredible cocktails, including the sazerac, sidecar, and my personal favorite– the Pim’s Cup. The bartenders were courteous and speedy, always going that extra step to make the perfect drink. If you’re hungry, try out the fried potatoes– they are cooked at 700 degrees so the grease inside burns up and creates a hollow center! Make sure to not ask for ketchup with these beauties– the chef will be offended that you are drowning his masterpiece!

Our encounter with Hermes Bar started with a desire to find some good, cheap ice cream. Just to give you an idea we left a place where it was $ 6 for a cup. With a quick Unilocal search I saw that Hermes Bar might have the elusive Baked Alaska; a dish I’ve always wanted to try but could never seem to get my hands on. When we arrived at Hermes we were welcomed to sit anywhere we preferred. I asked, «Do you guys have Baked Alaska?» The host bee lined to my side, grabbed my elbow and assured me that baked Alaska would be served around 5:30 with the dinner menu. Another host(I assumed) quickly joined us and said he would go back to the kitchen to check to see if the dessert could be made now. We were welcomed to sit, have a drink, and wait for an answer. We happily obliged with two glasses of water. Two sips into the tasty water the second host and a band of waiters strolled out from the kitchen with a football sized dessert, two plates, and chocolate sauce. Before we knew it the spoon fell like a guillotine chopping the dessert in half and sealing out fate before we could even ask for a price. Shocked, awed even, we watched as «Jimmy Chocolate» drizzled the hot sauce over the cold dish. As quickly as they had appeared the wait staff left us with threats to finish it all and our colossal half mountain of Baked Alaska for two. Panic immediately set in when my male companion(who was relatively neglected through this experience with the exception of his own elbow play) assured me there was no way this dish was under $ 20. Heck it was so fancy it might even be $ 100. No $ 1000! Too nervous to take another bite I inquired the price to find a $ 20.85 check in my immediate future. With that, we ate all we could while trying to save room for our McDonalds reservation later in the evening. The Baked Alaska was delicious and terrifying. Though to be completely honest we came for dessert but stayed for the water. Because honestly no one tells you New Orleans the water tastes like the streets smell. Highly recommend.

I love this place because they make excellent cocktails, have fairly good happy hour specials(like the Bastille Day French 75 for $ 4.00!) and it is a phenomenal spot for people watching! In addition to a well stocked bar there is a bar food menu for those who are so inclined. The menu is a bit pricey, but it isn’t anything more than what I would consider standard French Quarter pricing.

When a server questions your order at a bar/restaurant, it’s probably with good reason. Such was the case at Heremes Bar, which was once part of Antoine’s dining room(but has now been converted into its own space) in the French Quarter. Yes, I’m partial to this joint, not only for its rich history but the fact that it’s located on St. Louis Street. Back to the questionable order. I dragged my +1 here to have a martini and pre-dinner snack of oysters Rockefeller. We ordered a half dozen without hesitation, but thankfully our server said to us «Is there any reason why you want the Rockefeller?» On the menu is says specifically that Antoine himself created the OG dish over 100 years ago. When in Rome, right? Wrong. We were told that it might not be what we’re expecting, and it was suggested that we order a sampler platter with two of each kind of fancy oyster. Thankfully, we obliged. Here’s what was served: Two Huitres en coquille a la Rockefeller(oysters Rockefeller) Two Huitres Thermidor(bacon and tomato sauce) Two Huitres Bienville(white wine sauce w/onions, pimentos, peppers) The winner? Huitres Bienville — quite lovely. Rockefeller was OK, but definitely not the dish we were expecting. Thank you, lovely lady, for guiding us in the right direction. Drinks at Hermes Bar are strong. Come here for lunch and they’re 25 cents! Beyond the food and drink, my favorite part of this experience was the wall of Heremes Mardi Gras crew queens, dating back many generations. Oh, to be a wealthy débutante in another time… If you’re a sucker for rich food *and* history, Antoine’s/Hermes Bar is the place to get the NOLA party started.

Use to be a real speak-easy bar back in the day. They are known for their cocktails, mainly the sazerac(cognac or rye whiskey, absinthe or Herbsaint, and Peychaud’s Bitters). A local recommended this place and my whiskey loving bf gave the drink a thumbs up. Gets pretty crowded so it was hard to find a place to sit and drink. Getting a drink at the bar wasn’t difficult.
