I chose this gym because it is 24 hours and haven’t regretted it. There is hardly ever a wait for any machine. It does get crowded at around 5pm to 9pm every weekday but I just avoid going at that time. I’ve gone as early as 4am and as late as midnight with no issues.
I’ve never had problems with parking. (I hate going to gyms where it takes 10 minutes to find a single parking spot.) This is a huge plus for me.
Most of the members are really nice and easy-​going as well. It’s not intimidating to workout here like it can be at other gyms. The trainers seem genuinely interested in helping their clients reach their goals.
I haven’t taken any group classes so cannot comment on those.
Overall a great gym if you’re looking for one without the bells and whistles of a fitness center. This place suits my needs perfectly.

Love this place. I’ve never been a person who likes gyms. I’m often intimidated by the fit people who know how to work all the machines. But I have this place a go after using a groupon.
After my two month trial was over I signed up for a year membership with three training sessions each week. It’s about $ 70 for the month and with the training sessions there’s unlimited gym access ²⁴⁄₇.
The trainers are so friendly, helpful and welcoming. The equipment is always very clean. There’s always fun upbeat music playing. If you live near by I highly suggest this place to stay healthy or get fit!

This a good gym. The staff is very courteous and helpful, the equipment is clean, well cleaned bathrooms, and you can work out anytime, ²⁴⁄₇. I’ve been a member of this gym for a year now and it has been a good experience. You can get a basic membership, or a membership with group/​personal training benefits. While I never used any of the training I can attest to the fact that the trainers were on time for their appointments and professional. There is also plenty of parking!
The only real downside is the size of the gym is a little small, and can get crowded during peak hours such as 5 – 6:30 PM. I would stay a member but they don’t have a branch in Mid City (hint hint).

The staff is very friendly. Great local gym. Clean machines and good place to get a good work out in when visiting the city! Just visiting from out of town but the Unilocal coupon got us 7 days free!

I’ve been happily sweating on the Gym Matrix treadmills for over a year now. Theres a lot to love about this gym:
— Very friendly and invested staff; they always greet you when you come in
— Diverse clientele: All ages, sizes and etc. I don’t feel out of place!
— Rarely crowded. Even though it’s small, I only find I have to wait for a machine once in a blue moon.
— Hours are super flexible! I can work out at midnight if I want, and I sometimes do.
— Price is pretty reasonable.
— Equipment/​machines are well maintained, personal TVs at every cardio machine
However, this is not a gym for everyone:
— There are not a huge range of cardio machines
— There is no locker room and no «frills,» ie, steam room, pool, etc.
— Personal training sessions take place in a very confined space, which means that the workouts often spill over into common walkways. This can be a little annoying.
I think this gym is great for someone like me, who values the flexible hours and can’t afford an upscale gym. I just want to use a few machines, sweat for an hour, and go home. It’s probably not so great for someone who wants state of the art equipment and and lots of «perks.»
My membership doesn’t include personal training sessions, so i can’t speak to those, but the trainers all seem knowledgeable and the sessions I’ve seen taking place seem to be kicking everyone’s ass (in a good way!)

This is a pretty nice little gym. Located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. It is open ²⁴⁄₇ for gym members if you pay a one time $ 20 fee for the key fob, which is well worth the price! Otherwise you can only go during the hours they have a staff member there.
They have 4 treadmills, and 4 elliptical type cardio machines. They have other machine for just about every muscle as well as an area with free weights.
This is not a «spa» gym, just the basics. There is no real locker room, just cubbies in the front to put your belongings and two individual bathrooms in the back.
They offer group training as well as personal training for a fee.
The only thing I wish they had was more of those little sanitary wipes to wipe down weights/​machines. They do have some antibacterial hand stuff available.
Through my health insurance I have Healthways, which they accept. This allows both my husband and I to pay a super low monthly premium for the gym.
For the price, this gym is great! It has just about everything you would need with none of the extra frills. When do you really use all those extra frills anyway?

When I first moved to New Orleans I wasn’t sure I would be able to find a gym that would work with my crazy schedule and workout requirements. I found everything I needed at gym matrix. It’s 24 hours so I can work out early in the morning and late at night, it has all the equipment I need, is clean, has an option for a trainer, and best of all was reasonably priced.

I joined Gym Matrix after moving uptown and being dissatisfied with the Anytime Fitness on Freret St. I don’t watch much television but find trash TV an ideal running mate while on the treadmill.
Gym Matrix has quality machines (with personal TVs!) as well as a friendly and informative staff.
On off days or times, I love this gym, I have my choice of treadmills and the entire back area to myself for abs and stretching. Unfortunately, when coming from work
(M-​Thurs 5−6ish) it can get a bit congested. I’ve never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a treadmill, but when it gets crowded I’m much more likely to leave to do abs and stretching at home.
Overall, I found the gym to meet the majority of my simple needs and would recommend others to check it out (especially at the times they would most likeIy be going). I am leaving the gym only because I am moving out of town, otherwise you would see me in the front window sweating all over those Kardashians.

GymMatrix is a fantastic gym! The machines are always clean, the staff is very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this gym to all of my friends. I would go with the plan that includes the group sessions– totally worth it! The GymMatrix family can be very accommodating too! The staff there will find the perfect program for you. Take my word for it– this is a great gym!

Great atmosphere, awesome trainers and great customer service. Sean is the best. A clean and easy atmosphere for working out!

I’ve had a lot of personal trainers before, but Chris at GYmmatrix is really good! LIKE THE BEST! He changes up the exercises so you never get bored and is definitely very challenging! I’ve lost 12lbs so far and I’m excited about it! They have REALLY good prices! And its a ²⁴⁄₇ gym so you can go on your own time!!! Pretty awesome!

Went back and forth between a 3 and 4. A solid 3.5 for sure, but I can’t go with a complete 4 since the gym isn’t large enough.
On the plus side, both the facility and the equipment are clean and well maintained. They also have a good variety of machines and all the free weights one could need. They also have a great area in the back for group exercise classes (that is the thing here). The group exercise thing is a great idea, in my opinion. You get the attention and interaction you need from a trainer but can go at your own pace, while being surrounded by like minded people trying to get/​stay healthy. The classes are also small, never more than a few people (at least that is what I have witnessed) so that area isn’t crowded.
The only negative for me is that the facility itself is small and gets crowded. I like to use free weights, but its tough finding enough space to use them. I’ve gone at various times but it always seems to be just busy enough to feel crowded. Not much they can do about that I guess. I hope things are going well for the company and they expand soon into a larger space.
So as to end of a positive, they do have a great staff, who always say hi when you walk in. There is no pressure to sign up for classes or anything additional, but they are always willing to help and answer basic fitness questions.

I started working out at this gym June 1^st this year, almost 2 months ago.
This was the best decision I have made in my weightloss journey, and really wish I had joined much, much sooner. The staff is extremely friendly, as well as motivational! They address every single guest by their first name, which is not only impressive, but it shows how much they truly care about their members. They are more than happy to help with any questions or concerns about the gym, workouts, and even healthy food options.
I also can say, that I had an «anytime fitness» membership for two years, and went maybe 10 times. The workout equipment really wasn’t much different than gym matrix, but the staff was what sold me. Since I don’t have a workout buddy, pep talks before my workouts really help push me through them. In the nearly 2 months that I have belonged to this gym, my life has changed more than I can put into words. I absolutely adore this gym. :)

GymMatrix is a really special place. The equipment is normal, same as you’ll find in any gym. What makes this place really is the trainers. Everyone who works there greets you by your first name when you walk in.
After going to a class here, one of the trainers took about 20 minutes of his time to ask me about my goals, and to talk to me about how to achieve them. It was an incredible motivation for me to know that they want and hope that I achieve my goal – and are willing to help me if I put in the work.
I would recommend it for people of any fitness level who just want some extra help in finally achieving that goal.

I love this gym!!! First of all, THANK YOU for not making me sign a contract. They have the option, but they will work with you if you don’t want to. Since I’m leaving New Orleans in less than a year, I needed a short term plan and they totally worked with me. Plus I get three classes a week! By classes I mean personal training sessions with a maximum of seven students, but many times there are just three or fewer of us. Seriously, my arms have muscles for the first time ever — it is awesome.
They are encouraging and know your name, are enthusiastic to help out and basically just making going to the gym and working out in different, balanced ways easier — most of the time all I do is show up.
One of the trainers said this and I agree — this place should be blowing up crowded. But it’s not and that works for me :) Anyway, this gym is awesome and I am very very happy with my decision to go there.

With all these check-​ins (and being declared the duchess, sorry, Scott S, muahahahahahha) you’d think I’d write a review already…
I’ll be honest. It’s taken me quite a while to warm up to Gym Matrix because I’m used to more of a «health club» atmosphere… with crap I never used, granted. Like a sauna, steam room, indoor/​outdoor pools, massage etc. etc. But those things were there if I wanted them. And decent yoga classes. And spinning (I miss these and I can’t deny that once I move, I’ll just join the New Orleans Athletic Club). Hell, the last club I belonged to had several bars in it, too. And that is most definitely not part of the Gym Matrix business model.
But I can’t fault them that. For what I’m paying for, a basic gym with cardio that is made up of 4 elliptical, 4 treadmills, 1 stairclimber and 2 reclined cycles, it’s worth it, in my opinion. There are decent weight machines and plenty of free weights (I do wish they had one of those pull up machines that has counter weights so that I could continue to work on my goal of doing a damn pull-​up). The staff here are all extremely nice and helpful. You don’t get any training pressure, either, which is nice. It’s also not ever crowded. They get points, rather stars, for all of that. I think of it as a bigger hotel or apartment gym. I just take yoga in other places.
It is what it is. And it’s open 24-​hours.

Gym Matrix is an excellent and affordable place to work out. The only thing better than the prices is the incredibly gorgeous and energetic new instructor, the blonde. She makes me want to pretend to be the fitness buff i am not just so I can watch her make me work it every day of the week!!!
The rest of the staff is very friendly and helpful and the facility is always well air conditioned and clean.

I’ve lived in the South for a year and a half now, splitting my time between Mississippi and Louisiana. While there’s plenty to love, one of my biggest complaints (having come here from California) is the lack of affordable, quality gyms. I’m used to mega gyms where you have lots of space to work out, where you don’t have to fight for machines, where there are free classes included in your membership, and where membership doesn’t cost a significant amount of your income.
Alas, what passes for a quality gym in the South does not not cut it for me. I’m not even an avid athlete, but it annoys me when I get charged a lot and the gym insists on debiting my checking account as if I’m going to rip them off or something.
Anyways, Gym Matrix is the first gym I’ve encountered in the South that doesn’t have any silly rules like «this is a no judgement zone» or silly add-​ons I’d never use like tanning or a movie theater. Also, they’re open 24 hours (members can enter with a special key fob). The equipment is clean and modern. And the gym has the bare essentials, so you can pretty much work out ever muscle group you would want to, even though you may not see the particular machine you want.
I like that their cardio machines each offer working cable television screens.
However, I dislike that that the gym is relatively small. Luckily, it seems that gym membership is something of a luxury down here, so they gym is never overly-​crowded and I haven’t had to fight for machines yet.
Also, they charge extra for classes, which they consider «one-​on-​one» personal training.
Finally, I like the fact that they gym has a staff person on duty during certain hours, but the fact that the gym is so small makes me feel self-​conscious, like I’m being watched or chaperoned. I’d much prefer for someone to be on duty but have a bigger space so I don’t have to make eye contact with the person on duty every time I change exercises.
In short, this gym leaves a lot to be desired (if you have a strong opinion about how gyms should be) but overall, it’s the best one I’ve come across in the New Orleans area, so I’ll just have to make due.

Just a quick update. This place is open now, and I also forgot to mention in my original review that it’s actually open 24/​7, which I think makes it pretty much the only option around for working out in a gym whenever you want. Hurray! Now you have even less of an excuse to not make it to the gym…
… Unless you’re hooked on Minecraft, in which case you really should have just taken up heroin.
