Goldie did an amazing job with my Yorkie Poo. I don’t do many reviews but wanted to give them one. She has super thin hair that gets matted easily and she took the time to groom them out and make her look perfect! and very reasonably priced. Only downfall is the construction on Dumaine right now makes it hard if you’re driving, BUT they walked my dog to the curb for me so I didn’t have to pay for parking! A++

What a fabulous little pet shop! I’ve been here a few times just to stop by, chat with the people working, pet the sweet little babies running around and buy treats. I LOVE that the cats/​kittens there have been rescued from the streets of nola, spayed/​neutered & vaccinated. That’s my kind of pet shop!

Got booked for a grooming appointment on a walk in basically. My dog looks and smells amazing. The groomer Goldie did an excellent job and treated my dog with love and care.

I just picked up my little ol’ guy Stewart from getting groomed and we’re really happy with the results. He raced all over the store excited about how good he felt to get clean. The ladies at the shop were lovely, did exactly what I asked and my dog looked great. Super excited to know this place and will definitely come back next time we come down with the pooches from NYC. I was driving from Texas to Georgia and wanted to stop in The French Quarter for some sightseeing and good food. Unfortunately, I brought my dwarf hamster with me. I didn’t want to leave him in the car or sneak him into my hotel so I made many phone calls. I called some pet supply stores and vet offices but was turned down repeatedly. Finally I got in touch with Sharon who was very friendly and helpful. I dropped off my hamster and picked him up the very next day with no problems. I highly recommend Pet Asylum for their customer service, care of the animals, and cost of care.

The customer service here is fantastic. They will order things for you, go out of their way to talk about food, give you samples before you commit to a 30lb bag. The owners do a ton of rescue work in the community. Prices are competitive with big box pet stores, a real rarity in the boutique world.

I came in looking for flea meds for my three cats. The lady at the counter recommended that I buy one dose for an XL dog rather than 3 individual cat doses. She went into detail on how to safely administer the meds at that concentration, down to size of cat.
Instead of having to pay $ 120 on 6 doses of medication, I only paid $ 40 for two doses (which are lasting me a long time). It’s that kind of customer service that makes a business successful. She could’ve taken advantage of my ignorance and made a lot more money off of me, but instead her attentiveness and eagerness to help ensured that I’d be returning as a regular customer.

I stopped in her on a whim and bought my dog a leather, spiked dog collar. When I got it home, it didn’t quite fit, so I took it back and ordered a size up. The ladies at the store ordered a Harley Davidson one, which, when I got it home was actually too big and I decided I wasn’t feeling the logo. A few miscommunications later, the wrong size was ordered and then ANOTHER Harley one was ordered. Finally, the correct one was ordered, sized and sans logo. Regardless of which side the miscommunication came from, the ladies at Pet Asylum went above and beyond exemplary customer service to get the collar that I wanted. Now my Presa Canario looks like a boss-​even more intimidating :-)

We love this place! For the last 4 years we’ve made an annual trip from Dallas to the FQ and we discovered this place our first year while walking around. We make sure to stop in on every visit and love on the animals. We love that the cats are rescued from the streets. And, like that they let the dogs have free roam inside. The dogs have always been friendly. The owners have always been friendly. Being owners of 4 dogs & 5 cats and foster parents to many more, we love what they do. The place is not dirty as another reviewer stated. It’s the FQ and a small area. It’s remnant of other shops you’d find in the Quarter. I hope they continue their good work for years to come!

I really cannot believe the comment below referring to a dog at a pet grooming/​rescue place as a «yappy furball.» I’m sorry, call me crazy but if you have a dog that snaps at other animals, perhaps its not a good idea to bring him into a place that rescues, grooms and adopts out animals. Just saying. I LOVE going in here and meeting the dogs. I adopted my dog through this group and could not be happier. Her fee included spay, microchip and shots. Big Freedia is happy and well adjusted and I could NOT love her more. The owners of this place are passionate about animals and it shows (by the well behaved dogs you see not sitting in cages). Thank you Pet Asylum for being awesome!

I love this place. The people who work here really care about pets. I like the fact that there are dogs running around. Many are rescue animals looking for good homes. My daughter was looking to adopt a dog but it had to be a good fit. She talked to Sharon and adopted the perfect new family member… Big Freedia. A tiny little bundle who was running around everywhere. Can’t imagine our family without her! Thanks, Pet Asylum for all you do!

My two stars is entirely due to the fact that there are loose dogs running around. Maybe that is the point of it being a Pet Asylum, however while visiting I wanted to bring my pooch here to find some NOLA dog goodies. My dog and I walked downtown to visit this place and after bearing the crowds and heat we were disappointed when we opened the door and some yappy little fur ball was at the door. No sales person or anything was at the door, so thank goodness I saw this and prevented my dog from snapping back at this furball. Overall, big disappointment since we didn’t get to come in, also huge waste of time because of this. And also just really poor animal ownership to have a small dog yapping at the front door.
I’ll take my dog dollars to the shops on Magazine St. which were MUCH more pooch friendly!

I highly recommend Pet Asylum for their grooming services! They do a great job on our American Eskimos (which is not an easy job!) Brenda and Sharon do their best to make sure your dog is taken care of when dropped off for grooming services. This is not a HUGE pet store, but if you need a leash, pet harness or a last minute Barkus costume they will have something in stock for you. I should also mention that The owners of Pet Asylum do a service to our community by helping find homes for unwanted and abandoned animals…

I adopted my first cat (my French Quarter kitty) Louise here so it will always hold a special memory for me, but my most recent trip here left me highly unimpressed.
I was taking my kitten in to Southern Animal Foundation to be fixed for SPAY LA 2013 when I realized that my cat carrier was an hour away in Slidell at a friend’s house. I couldn’t bring Boots in without a carrier and only had half an hour to drop her off for her appointment. Desperate, I ran in to Petasylum as soon as they opened to buy a carrier. I had expected to spend at least $ 20-​something and asked for the cheapest one they had. She pulled a tiny plastic carrier down from the top shelf and told me it would be $ 43! FORTY THREE DOLLARS! I was dumbfounded! I felt swindled! Unfortunately I had no other options at 9:30 in the morning on a deadline so I paid that king’s ransom but I was in a foul mood for most of the morning over it. I’m all about supporting local FQ merchants but, come on man, that is wayyy overpriced.

I have been by this place a number of times early in the morning but they were never open. They open around noonish. I went there today to get Milo a Mardi Gras cape. They have hand made clothing for the animals and they are so super friendly to them. My dog just loves this place and so does his owner. I will be back in there to buy so more outfits.
