Euclid Records

Made my first trip down to Euclid today and it was excellent. Euclid is located in the Bywater and I found parking to not be an issue. I went in and came out with 3 vinyl records which totaled out to about $ 53. However, the decent prices is not what got to me, it was the best customer service I had ever received. When I went to check out, my boy behind the counter brought me over to the used blues section of the store. I was originally buying a new copy of the black keys Thickfreakness for $ 17.99. This awesome employee went and got me a used copy for a whopping $ 4.99 saving me 13 bucks. This made my day. So all in all, my first visit to Euclid was a solid one and I’ll surely be coming back. Definitely check it out, decent selection, well organized, and great customer service.

Pretty comprehensive shop. Was visiting New Orleans and this seemed to be the clear front runner in NO to begin my record shopping tour. Plan on giving yourself a couple of hours to dig. There’s a lot there. I had a pretty large stack I had to return to the bins because I needed to pace my spending budget. Would recommend this shop to anyone heading down to NO to look for some records…

One of the best shops I’ve visited, perhaps the very best along with People’s in Detroit and End of an Ear in Austin. I went in twice over this last weekend and grabbed a ton of awesome records for very reasonable prices. They had about two dozen records I would have liked to get if money was no object, but here are a couple of my best finds:
Ornette Coleman Trio — Live in Stockholm vol 2, original pressing, VG++, $ 30!
Sonny Rollins — Vol. 1, mono liberty pressing, RVG in DW, VG++, $ 25
I’ll go to Euclid anytime I’m anywhere near New Orleans.

Positive aspects:
— helpful staff;
— huge selection of used and new;
— covering all genera;
— nicely organized;
— easy to browse;
— accessible;
— easy to find parking;
— flexible;
— willing to hold records behind the counter;
— intimate live shows.
Negative aspects:
— all of the above comes at a cost… Although I did find some records to be reasonably priced, fact is that most were a bit on the high end.
— only one listening station, and such a crappy one for that matter, seems highly insufficient for such a big store with so many people coming in.

As a tourist I just walked in to peruse but as I looked through the Beatles and solo record section I got excited because they were pretty cheap in my opinion so I bought 3! The shop itself looked cool too

Man, I love this record store. Today was my second visit, and a year later it’s just as good as I remember. When I was last year they had just finished moving into their new space. They’ve long since settled in now, and it’s a great interior. Their new indie pop/​rock vinyl is choice; it’s a continuous alphabetical stream of reasonably priced gems you should check out. The have a great wall of cassettes and used CDs now also. They also have a good selection of new Latin reissues. With some blank high bias cassettes and t shirts for sale also, you really can’t go wrong. Make sure to swing by, and you can check out Elizabeth’s for lunch.

Nice selection of records, well stocked and organized. However, not the friendliest of staff here. Talking about your customers in a disrespectful manner after they leave in earshot of customers is less than stellar.

Killer old school place with fair prices. Highly recommended over Peaches, etc! Found some pedal steel records here that were nowhere to be found elsewhere in town!
Do good — support your local mom and pop record store like Euclid!

I visited here on National Record Store day, in search of a free hot dog and an awesome new record! I missed the hot dogs and ended up not buying a record but did inquire about a new needle for my record player, at the time they were out but I went back two days ago and picked it up. Overall this record store may be one of the largest I have been to. There inventory of old and new records is pretty endless and there staff is knowledgable to where said record might be in the vast mountains of vinyl filling Euclid. Great record store I will be back many more times!

I’m a new vinyl buyer, I just got my first turntable today. So I hit up a couple stores and have called a few others. This was by far the best experience I had. Their selection is amazing, their staff was friendly and helpful and it’s nicely located. (As a NOLA citizen, sometimes it’s not super fun to have to go into the Quarter to shop) and I would definitely recommend these guys!

This place was a lot larger than I thought it would be from the outside. They have an expansive selection that is well cataloged and easily maneuvered in sections with large aisle ways!
The pricing ranges from inexpensive to high end hard to find prices! The smell of the store was that old paper smell and I loved it. I overheard the staff speaking to other customers and they seemed very knowledgeable and eager to share that knowledge!
Even if you don’t purchase anything, this store is worth a stop because it’s just different. Personally I love to look at the cover art on the sleeves of the records!

Amazing selection of vinyl from all genres, both new and used. Massive inventory of 45’s on the 2^nd floor. Vinyl listening station so you can preview used vinyl before purchasing. Highly recommend for any vinyl enthusiast!!!

In New Orleans for a week with several goals in mind — eat good food, meet nice people and find great records that our local love, Wuxtry, might not have at the moment. We did all those things and more but the ‘meet nice people’ part was sorely missing at Euclid. As avid collectors were pleasantly surprised by the selection and downright excited to shop for a while. Chucked down over $ 100 on what was going to be the first of many visits during our stay but we decided to never come back after dealing with some seriously rude folks at the counter. No ‘thank you’. No helpful answers when asking about some particulars and in fact they talked over us during every single interaction. Absolutely no customer service. Nada. Zilch.
Further burn? Went to a couple of other places with much friendlier service and found much cheaper prices.
Live and learn.

New location, one block from the old — yellow building on the corner of Chartres and Piety. The new location is two floors and well organized — same great selection and helpful staff.

Sometimes the mere act of flipping through records can be an immense salve for the soul. Maybe it has to do with order and categorization, but when the ragged feeling of chaos edges its way into my psyche, I like to walk down to Euclid and give myself a couple of hours of browsing time.
Sure you can buy your records online, but you lose that community hub, the serendipity of the find, and the pure thrill of the physical search. One Valentines Day I was absolutely thrilled to find the Magnetic Field’s 69 Love Songs – a pretty hard-​to-​find record on vinyl – for a perfectly fair price. That’s when I fell in love with Euclid Records.
As Amanda said, Euclid is indeed a High Fidelity-​style record shop, where the clerks are always shooting the breeze about music and gigs and whatever they’re playing over the store’s soundsystem. These are guys who know what they’re talking about, and can rifle off label histories and discographies with the greatest of ease. Sometimes there are great in-​store events [think abrasive punk, often], with hotdogs on the grill and the occasional keg or cans of cheapo beer.
Euclid’s stock is pretty varied, with special focus on jazz, soul, and funk. Their new stuff is well-​curated and you can find some real finds in the used stock. They can order you anything special, too!
Don’t expect to find many CD’s though. This is a vinyl shop.

Euclid is just the kind of wax haven that calls that scene in «High Fidelity» with the Beta Band on deck to mind (yeah, I went there). The vinyl is plentiful, and awesomely varied — from the New Orleans scene and far beyond. My latest expedition unearthed used, mint condition Dave Brubeck Plays Cole Porter, John Coltrane and Lee Morgan (gotta love the former owner’s mailing labels still on the cover) and, to take to a kitschy, themed record party, a «Saturday Night Fever» takeoff circa 1978 entitled «Hasidisco Fever.»
Bonus points for the eclectic in-​store live music, and the care with which the vinyl itself is treated, along with all the accoutrements (show posters, fliers, stickers) befitting a local music store. The staff obviously cares about their grooves, and it shows — nice, knowledgable, no attitude. If you’re feeling really adventurous, search out an oddities section mid-​store, second-​aisle, mid-​rack and behold the straight-​up bizarre.

It seems that vinyl is making (another) resurgence in popularity. Which is great because places like Euclid stand a better chance of surviving. Granted, the fair pricing, organization and live music events probably help too. I have always been a wax addict — the wife probably wishes there was such a thing as Vinylholics Anonymous — and this is one of the best record shops I’ve had the pleasure to live near in my 40-​something years.
It’s pretty easy to find stuff (unless you’re looking for 45’s), they seem to keep the new arrivals coming pretty steadily, and as I said the prices are fair… meaning they know their stuff and aren’t just preying on the fadiness of the «new» record collectors. **coughcoughhipsterscough**
The staff are also very nice, helpful, knowledgeable and not too cool for you.

As soon as I walked into Euclid’s, I fell in love. A large selection of LPs and tons of stacked boxes of 45s that I’ll have to rummage around in during my next visit. The best record shops are the ones that only cater to record collectors, as this is a record collector’s shop. There are a few shelves of cassettes (which are still fun to collect), but mainly only records. I love how they hide the CDs in the back corner!
While browsing the selection, I took for granted living just blocks away from Ameoba Records in Follywood. The «industrial» section only consists of several records, where as Ameoba has an entire aisle dedicated to «goth/​industrial» music, as well as every other genre of music imaginable to the human ear. I walked away with two very rare Psychic TV LPs, pretty much in mint condition. Another peak of Euclid’s is their «quality» of records. Most records are in mint condition, if not «near mint» condition and very well taken care of. Again, this shop is for the record connoisseur.
The employees were knowledgeable and helpful, and weren’t elitist pricks like the guys they have working at both of the Ameoba Records in California. I couldn’t figure out my bike lock, so they let me put my bike in the store. This is a quality record store!

This place is amazing. Tons of LP’s from wall to wall. Vinyl and good prices and amazing coverage of New Orleans Jazz, classic rock, acid rock, and everything in-​between. They also seem to sell old record players and whatnot.
On the day we visited they were buying a lot of LP’s from older couples. We found some great albums for about $ 5 each. Very cool friendly staff, and just about the best record store I have seen since the 1980s when record stores had 1000’s of LPs row after row.
Awesome. A real Gem.

First Off…
This place has done me the honor of ordering me Dirty Mind’s by Prince on vinyl! Do you realize how epic that is! Prince original artwork with him in a black bikini. When that guy told me he could order me and will call me a tear of joy fell from my eye. I almost heard birds singing that someone would help complete my Prince love/​stalking.
Okay now the rest…
The store is freakin pink! How can I not love a pink store! It’s easy to find and its pink and makes me happy to go inside. Its all neat and wonderful and very well organized and they have Billie Holiday!!! I just love this store and the staff was beyond awesome and sooo helpful. My first time in Euclid was enjoyable for this female audiophile. It was one of those experiences that will go down in the record books.
