Café Amelie

This was the best meal we had during our week in New Orleans. The shrimp and grits every other post describes… are the best ever. The gumbo should be award winning. Definitely try it.
The atmosphere was incredible. So romantic in a fabulous outdoor setting. I will make a stop here every time I’m in town. I would suggest reservations.

Believe the hype! This was #1 on my list of New Orleans restaurants, and boy did it live up to expectations!
The space itself is wonderful, there is a little bit of seating indoors but the highlight is their courtyard dining area. Beautifully done with a central fountain and trees decorated with lights.
The service was amazing. We were one of the last tables to be seated, but our server was still very attentive and friendly with us. She went over each of the specials in a lot of detail and also answered all our questions, suggesting the best local flavors on the menu. Her food recommendations were spot on!
The food was beyond amazing. The term ‘farm to table’ generally gets thrown around a lot, but this is one place where you can really taste the freshness of the ingredients. And the flavors were to die for! An excellent use of the great Creole spices that make dining in New Orleans such a treat. We got the shrimp and grits, the crab cake and the pasta special with Andouille sausage. The shrimp and grits were excellent. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and the grits were wonderfully seasoned with Cajun spices. The crab cake too was moist and well seasoned. And the pasta was a great choice, bursting with flavorful sausage and fresh veggies. For dessert, we got the chocolate almond bread pudding which was delicious as well.
Make sure to try their drinks, they’re all made with fresh fruit juices and you can taste the difference! I got something with pineapple and ginger which was amazing, and my wife got a really good orange blossom cocktail. Nothing syrupy or processed about these drinks, just great flavors.
I can ramble on and on about this restaurant, but the bottom line is: Go here! Go for brunch if you can, or for dinner, but definitely do not miss out on this place!

I am feeling quite bad that I am writing this review. I had made a brunch reservation with an outdoor seating 15 days in advance. It was our wedding anniversary and wanted to take my husband to a quaint romantic joint for brunch.
When we got here, the host told us that they expected showers and so she will seat us indoors. But they had covered seating outside. It was just all taken already. And as those freed up, she seated more people there. Fine, I’ll chalk that up to good intentions and mix ups.
The food was mixed. The waitress got the starters the main course everything in one go and the main course was not even warm. The cornbread was cold and dry. I had the scrambled eggs with grits and croissant and the grits were not warm! The scrambled eggs were good. My husband had the Muffaletta and it was decent. Not the best of NOLA. I would say what saved the meal for us was the French onion soup. It was really flavourful and had a decent portion size.
Overall I picked this place based on the fab reviews and ratings and I was quite disappointed. I feel really bad I picked this place for our Anniversary Brunch. Average food, very average service. The two stars is for their ambience and yes the really flavourful French Onion Soup we had.
We had brunch at Atchafalaya yesterday and that was the kind of brunch I expected to eat at NOLA.

I passed by this place a couple of times during my trip in New Orleans and we decided to go on our last night. What attracted us mostly the stunning courtyard that looked amazing both at night and during the day, but the solid reviews definitely sealed the deal. We came by around 7:30pm on a Thursday and were told that it would be about a 30 minute wait so we opted to grab drinks at the bar while we waited. The inside is also nice and cozy, but definitely try to sit outside if you can. About 20 minutes later we were sat at a table outside (yasss).
Our waiter was super friendly and informative from the get-​go, but the service all around was great. It started a rain a bit before we got our food, but the waitstaff was quick to lead us to a table underneath umbrellas and helped us move our stuff.
For dinner I got the Amelie pasta special which was really good and flavorful, but it was a bit heavy on the sausage. I would go for it again but maybe substitute it out with shrimp. The Orange Blossom cocktail was really great and refreshing and their coffee was also pretty good.
This place is definitely a New Orleans gem. It’s definitely has a fine-​dining/​high-​end look (and price tag), but nothing about it is pretentious. There’s still a really casual and convivial vibe to the place that makes you feel welcomed and nothing less than comfortable. Out of all the restaurants I’ve tried in New Orleans this was definitely the highlight in terms of overall experience.

New Orleans just kills the hospitality came and really, Café Amelie is no different. I had the seared salmon and asparagus and it was the most delicious thing. It’s so hot and humid that the thought of eating fried or heavy things just doesn’t do it for me. The salmon was a pretty big portion, but not too heavy as to make me sluggish and sleepy in the heat.
The cocktails look delicious, thought I didn’t have one.
There is a cute little outdoor seating area and garden space that makes it perfect for brunch or a date. I’m definitely coming back here.

Oh my goodness … I am a chicken and waffles junky and the ones here are beyond amazing… The chicken is roasted and is in this amazing sauce that just soaks up the waffle so well… Minimal syrup is needed. The portion is also great! This restaurant is beautiful and
The service is great! Shout out to our amazing waitress Lauren!!! Did I mention the cocktails rock!!! I had the Five towers … Which was amazing… A must do if you’re visiting New Orleans.

Everything we had was excellent, favorites in order: catfish sandwich (the bread is very light, catfish perfectly grilled), shrimp and grits (spicy kick), cochon de lait (tender), the French toast was a bit dense and dry.
Make a reservation and request to be seated in the the courtyard, great ambience for a Sunday brunch :) We arrived at 10:45 on Sunday and a line had already formed (presumably for people with and without reservations)

I was thrilled that we found this restaurant across the street from our hotel. If I had not been staying at the hotel, I probably never would have found the restaurant because it is hidden. There is no major signage it is mainly a fence and a sign on the fence. We were the first people there when it opened at 5 PM. We opted to sit outside in the gorgeous courtyard. It was very romantic. The service was great. The drinks were amazing. You have to order a rhubarb and rye. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered the pork tender loin and it was juicy, flavorful and super tender. If you want to go after 7 PM be sure to reserve a table a couple of days ahead of time. If you get there right when they open or for lunch it is less busy.

A truly delightful outdoor courtyard restaurant in the French Quarter. French/​Creole cuisine. In the French Quarter comparison, it is even reasonably priced.
Careful preparations and wonderful sauces, made the seafood perfect. Be sure to tell them not to overcooked the pork chops though. I had the lamb meatloaf and had them put it on grits instead of sandwich, I recommend.
Great service.

Solid start for the first meal of my short stay here in the French Quarters!
A bit pricey– but the atmosphere and décor was on point! On a SUPER busy (graduation) weekend we were lucky to get a reservation at all. I was originally able to only get a reservation for two separate parties of 4 on Saturday but when we showed up on the day of the staff was super nice and was able to seat all 8 of us together outside in the courtyard.
My friends and I ended up mostly sharing our food family style and the sampling we had was mostly delicious!
The memorable dishes:
— Shrimp and Grits (hands down, best dish of the sampling)
— Catfish Sandwich
— Muffaletta
— Gumbo
The only ok dishes:
— Chicken and Waffles
— Crab Cake
Overall it was pretty pricey and the food was good– well worth trying but nothing that blew my mind. (Maybe because I didn’t eat too many bites of any one dish) Lastly, our waitress was really nice and gave great suggestions but you could tell she was a bit swamped because it was a bit difficult to flag her down for anything sometimes.

We made a reservation here a few weeks in advance, and almost missed it due to a delayed flight! The restaurant was so accommodating when I called and explained, and squeezed us in that Saturday instead.
I am so happy we didn’t miss out.
The outdoor courtyard is absolutely beautiful. Very romantic and intimate setting lit mostly by lanterns.
Every dish we ordered was fantastic — I wish I could have gotten dessert! The service was well timed and attentive.

Our experience dining here was phenomenal.
Food was incredibly delicious! From the complimentary bread & butter to our entrees – yum yum yum! (I overheard a waiter telling another table that they source their loaves of bread locally from what seems like a reputable and favored company.) We ordered the shrimp & grits… this was bursting with flavors! Shrimp was plump and juicy, while the corn added sweetness and additional texture to the overall dish. We also ordered the pasta of the day, which was the creole italian-​sausage penne pasta. This included fresh tomatoes and spinach, topped with parmesan cheese – another dish bursting with flavors! I appreciated that delicious touch of creole heat to it.
Service was nothing but amazing! Our server, Michael, was extremely friendly and hospitable the second we sat down. In addition, the atmosphere is surely adorable! While their outside seating is placed in a beautiful quiet garden area tucked away from the main street, their indoor seating has a very homey and chic feel.

Café Amelie is a great place for lunch in the French Quarter. It’s quiet with beautiful scenery. Feels like you’re dining in a garden.
Our experience here was a great one. The service, drinks, food, atmosphere are all awesome! It’s a little pricey, but not too bad if you come for lunch. It’s worth it!
The cuisine is Americana. They serve Gourmet sandwiches, salads, soups, chicken, beef, and seafood entrees. I recommend getting the Oysters Amelie as an appetizer! You won’t regret it.
I’m definitely glad we made a point to try this place during our trip to New Orleans. Highly recommend!

Had this place bookmarked before my visit to Nola and i was not disappointed! Was able to snag a table outside with a view of trees and lovely landscape.
The service was very nice, our waitress explained the menu for us and made her recommendations. We went with the shrimp and grits and the ginger squash soup. Both were out of this world amazing! I have never had a soup so good it had me at home trying to recreate it! Perfectly spiced and the ginger was not over powering at all. Absolutely loved it!
If you’re in the area you must stop by this cute little restaurant– you won’t be disappointed!

Cannot say enough about the Southern Hospitality here at Café Amelie. We had a group of 7 trying to all find a good place to eat. Having been turned away from 2 places already due to our group size and insanely long wait, we trekked onwards towards Café Amelie.
I gave the Café a call on our walk over to see what the wait might be and also found out they won’t accept reservations or take patron names unless physically present. We weren’t hopeful but we decided to give it a try anyway.
When we got there, a gentleman came up to greet us and said «Are you the party of 7? After I got off the phone with you I went ahead and got your table ready. I was hoping you would be here soon!» And like that we were seated right away. Cannot thank him enough!
Beyond the service food is simply out of this world. Best shrimp and grits by far and this comes from someone who doesn’t like grits! Also loved the spinach dip with oysters and the insanely great flavored of the creole poutine. Cannot forget to mention the ridiculously good gumbo that I am currently salivating over just thinking about. The only dish I might recommend skipping is the pasta dish which was so so, and the fig and goat cheese which was a bit overly sweet. Satisfy yourself though with anything else on the menu I promise will not disappoint! Thanks again Café Amelie for your outstanding hospitality and even more amazing food.

We had a wonderful dinner seated outside Sunday evening. Our server was very knowledgable about the menu and provided top notch service.
We ordered the famous shrimp and grits (⁵⁄₅) — very flavorful shrimp and thick grits to accompany it. The corn medley sauce on top made the dish fresh yet hearty. Nicely executed and truly a classic NOLA dish. We also ordered the pork chop ⁵⁄₅) which is bone in. The seasoning on the meat was just perfect. This is the best pork chop I’ve ever ordered anywhere! Cooked through so there is no pink yet the meat is still juicy and tender. The sauce also pulls the dish together well with the grits underneath.
Ambiance is really romantic in the courtyard and you can hear a little bit of the street noise but it wasn’t distracting at all. I would come back again and highly recommend this restaurant. They also take reservations.

Adorable little café in the heart of the French Quarter — nice atmosphere, good food, decent service, but nothing spectacular. Plus, the hostesses were rude and had a very condescending.
Came here with group of 6 and we each ordered something different. The Chicken & Waffles was by far the best. The outdoor patio is nice (weather permitting).

Cute little brunch spot tucked away on Royal Street. Outdoor courtyard and indoor carriage house. Make a reservation for sure, it was extremely busy when we went and thankfully we made a reservation.
We were quickly seated in the courtyard and were promptly greeted by our server. There wasn’t one thing to complain about except maybe it was a little slow to get our food.
Get the Bloody Mary, you won’t regret it.
Order the shrimp and grits appetizer and then order another, you’ll want to after your first delicious bite. You also will probably not want to share so make sure to order your own ;)
Listen to all the other reviewers and make sure to stop here while in NOLA. You won’t regret it!

We came here for an early dinner on New Year’s Eve.
The restaurant was set up for diners who were eating here for the holiday but accepted our reservation. Our reservation was a early enough that we wouldn’t be in the way of those who were dining and staying for the night.
There is a nice outdoor patio area that includes ambiance from the calming water flowing from the courtyard fountain. Inside there is a downstairs and upstairs. We were seated upstairs in a little room that felt like someone’s home.
Service was friendly and the food was good. I had the Amelie Oysters which included creamed spinach and artichoke with crostini. This appetizer dish was hardy and tasty. I should have asked for some more bread to enjoy the dipping sauce to the fullest. For my main course I had the seared ahi tuna. This was served over noodles with veggies.
Overall, Café Amelie was in-​between casual and fancy dining with good service and exceptional food.

my daddy always taught me to present a criticism between two compliments, so here goes my criticism sandwich.
the restaurant is absolutely charming with a beautiful patio and quaint indoor dining room that looks more like a home than a restaurant. it is truly lovely.
my friend and I were disappointed with the customer service from the hostess and the bartender, as well as our cochon de lait (pork roast) sandwich.
we arrived without reservations (party of 2) just before they unlocked the door to open at 11am. the hostess said we were welcomed to go sit at their bar. when we walked up to the bar, the bartender said we could not sit there. they were doing construction on the bar. he directed us back to the hostess. she then sat us at one of the tables by the window. while we were placing our order with our waiter, she interrupted and said she would have to move us because that table was reserved after all. so we picked up our own glasses of water and silverware and followed her to a table right at the door. it was a bit embarrassing being in limbo and not even knowing if we could dine there at one point while she was trying to figure out what to do with us, as the other customers sat and watched.
as we sat at our drafty table, we watched the bartender and some other workers have a wine tasting at the bar. funny how it wasn’t under construction after all. we also watched the other window table sit empty as we ate our greasy, puny little cochon de lait sandwich. there were several other empty tables in the dining room for the duration of our visit. not sure why she had to stick us right at the door. having been here before, I really built this restaurant up and I was terribly embarrassed by the food and service. my friend said he’d never come back and I don’t blame him.
on a good note, our server was fantastic. he was kind, attentive and knowledgable of the menu. in fact, every time i’ve been here, I have had an excellent server.

Café Amelia has excellent ambiance very romantic. The service we received was warm and nice. We ordered the special for that day it was red fish with asparagus and potato. I was very please with the food. Definitely worth visiting.

Made a reservation for Brunch. Was not disappointed. The food was delicious and the portions generous.
Highly recommend the fig and goat cheese appetizer. It was to die for. I could get a few orders of just that and some wine, and I would be a happy camper for hours.
I also had the Cochon au Lait sandwich. Very good — a bit juicy and messy, but delicious (a tad spicy) nonetheless.

We started off our meal the way we do at a lot of restaurants – by being sat in a corner and forgotten about. Not for that long, maybe just an extra five minutes or so. But then our waiter came around, asked if we’d been waiting long, and REALLY took it to heart. He not only comped my husband his drink; he also got us entrée-​sized portions of two appetizers we ordered AND a free slice of cake for dessert. I honestly feel terrible; we really didn’t deserve that.
The ambiance of this place is great. They have a wonderful outdoor patio, which was beautiful on an unseasonably warm night. We had the gumbo, the crab cake, the shrimp and grits, the spinach and artichoke oysters, and then the doberge cake for dessert. The standout was the shrimp and grits for sure (we don’t get a lot of grits in our part of the country, so these were very welcome). I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the spinach and artichoke oysters, seeing as I usually only have oysters on the half shell. And I was pleased to try the cake after reading about it in Saveur.
Definitely a great way to end a day in New Orleans, and I want to thank our waiter again for taking care of us.

We came to café Amelie for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. We made a reservation because it gets crowded. I wish we could have tried their brunch, but they only serve brunch on weekends. The courtyard is beautiful. They have a fountain. They open up umbrellas during the daytime so you’re not exposed to too much sun, if you don’t want to be. We ordered coffee and I had a Bloody Mary. My boyfriend had a drink with tequila. The drinks were very good. We shared the crab cake, which was very good. I ordered the muffaletta sandwich, which had ham, salami, provolone and an olive spread on bread. I enjoyed it. My boyfriend had the lamb meatloaf sandwich. He liked it a lot. Last, we had the bread pudding of the day. It was delicious. Definitely the best bread pudding we had. Overall, we liked café Amelie and I would definitely return next time I’m in Nola.

I was torn between rating Café Amelie a 4 or a 5, but in the end, the romantic ambiance and warm service were able to compensate for a middling dish or two. I had tried making day-​of reservations a few times with no success. Thankfully, we managed to grab an outdoor table by walking in around 2 PM on Valentine’s Day.
This enchanting French Quarter café has a picturesque patio, with an ornate fountain and small circular tables encircled by well-​manicured bushes and shrubbery. There’s a large tree at the center of the sun-​kissed courtyard with pink flowers growing across the top– possibly cherry blossoms? After a cocktail or glass of wine, you’ll forget momentarily that you’re in the Crescent City and not in some Parisian bistro.
We sipped on Bloody Mary’s while pondering the brunch menu. The cocktails were the right level of spicy without any bitterness, though they weren’t very strong. Our first course was the Shrimp and Grits, which came with three jumbo shrimp topped with a creamy corn and pepper medley. The grits weren’t profoundly rich or buttery, a welcome surprise, and had a spicy finish. Definitely a contender for dish of the afternoon.
We were disappointed to hear they had run out of the Crab Cake, but our cheerful waiter brought us a complimentary order of their Mozzarella Fireballs, essentially a glorified caprese salad. Unfortunately, these were mild and uninteresting, the chili oil doing little to boost the flavor of the dish.
Next up were the Amelie Oysters, which were halfway between oysters Rockefeller and a spinach-​artichoke dip. The creamy, garlicky purée was quite good, but the oysters at the bottom were… odd. Something about their lukewarm sliminess was off-​putting. In my opinion, seafood should either be hot or cold, not somewhere in between.
My main entrée, the Cochon de Lait Sandwich, was spectacular. The two slices of crunchy Ciabatta were loaded with juicy Cajun-​spiced shreds of tender pork, accented by the acidity of the pickles. My girlfriend enjoyed the Lamb Meatloaf as well, which comes in sandwich form. It was tasty, but topped with some sort of sweet jam that I could’ve done without.
By this point, we were practically in a coma. But we obviously couldn’t pass up dessert. The Ghirardelli Chocolate Melting Cake was superb, with a warm molten center coupled with Vanilla ice cream.
On top of the strong Southern fare and world-​class ambiance, the service was refreshingly casual. The waitstaff seemed like they genuinely enjoyed the job and each other’s company, which came across in our interactions. Counting down the days until I can make my way back for dinner; I hear they make a mean duck.

Online reservations weren’t working so I decided to email them. They responded very quickly and apologized for the inconvenience and manually reserved for two people on their end. I opted for the outdoor seating. Day of the reservation we were seated immediately outside. The weather was pretty chilly but they had space heaters.
Our server, Michael H, was great! He was attentive and joked around saying that aside from his grandma’s gumbo, Café Amelie was the runner up.
We got the chicken and andouille gumbo ($ 8), shrimp & grits ($ 13), satsuma pepper glazed shrimp ($ 11), and the lightly black ended catfish sandwich ($ 15).
Everything was absolutely delicious. The gumbo was flavorful and actually a perfect comfort food for the chilly weather. The shrimp & grits was my favorite. I could probably eat it every day if I my body would allow it. I’ve had grits before but nothing could compare to how they make it at Café Amelie. Bravo. The shrimp was prepared cold and came with 5 pieces. Sweet and tangy with a little kick. The catfish sandwich was my other favorite: catfish with greens, tomato, Cajun mayonnaise on ciabatta. The Cajun sauce was a great compliment to the fish. The fish itself was tender and cooked well.
We didn’t have room for dessert but we saw someone try the bread pudding and it probably tasted amazeballs judging from the look on the person’s face.
Amazing food and great service. Although I would like to mention that before we left we wanted to take a picture in front of the fountain and asked the host who was standing with another hostess to take one for us. He picked up something and walked away while saying with an attitude: «sorry, I’m working». The woman looked at us with an impatient look on her face and offered to take a photo.
Gee…Sorry guys for wasting 3 seconds of your life.

First and foremost ask for Joe to be your server. He was amazing.
The courtyard ambiance was breath taking. What a perfect evening we had at Café Amelie. Meeting up with six of my girl friends we had a weekend packed with fun activities… I’m beyond happy that we stumbled upon this quaint restaurant. A must on your visit to New Orleans.

My sister and I split two starters (1) Mozzarella fireballs: small mozzarella balls swimming in a spicy oil (2) Goat cheese and fig preserve on nut bread– I don’t even like goat cheese but the mild one that Café Amelie uses was AMAZING and had the best flavor accompanied by the fig preserve and warm nut bread.
For my meal I went with the Shrimp and Grits, you won’t be disappointed! The perfectly cook shrimp amongst sweet corn, grits, and a mouth watering sauce.
***Why I didn’t give Café Amelie five stars is because we were one of the lucky dining tables that got struck with rain the minute our entrees hit the table. Joe was accommodating and immediately ran to set up the giant umbrellas they have. Just be aware they do not have space inside to accommodate if rain does happen, you’re just shit out of luck when it rains, unfortunately.****
Joe was to the rescue when the rain got us down. Feeling worthless he comped wine that 3 out of 6 of us drank. Also, comped two desserts. Out of all of this none of the comped items were mine, I don’t have much luck! ha!
Regardless of the rain, my experience was spectacular! Definitely a must eat on my next visit to New Orleans!

This is a gorgeous courtyard restaurant. The atmosphere is absolutely perfect!!!
Our server, Shaina, was so sweet and friendly be gave perfect service (there when we needed her but not hovering).
We had the fig and goat cheese appetizer, the chicken and waffles, the breakfast sandwich, and the pork sandwich and all were amazingly delicious! The gravy on the chicken and waffles was spicy and we agreed we could drink it as a soup!
One thing to take away from the perfection was the host who was rude and unaccommodating.
Definitely recommend the spot, though!

Stopped in for late lunch. Super cute and busy place! Waited about 45 minutes for a table. I had actually already eaten and was just joining my friends for drinks. However, when the waiter told us about the special soup of the day, I had to have it. It was a roasted red pepper and tomato bisque with shrimp. The soup was so velvety and the shrimp were the most delicate, tender bites of shrimp I’ve ever had in my life! The drinks were really good too. The mule was refreshing and a perfect remedy to my moderate hangover. My friends also tried the fig spread with goat cheese and the crab cake. I had a tiny bite of the crab cake and it was pretty much all crab, very little filler. So yummy. Our server was great and made it a wonderful experience. Would definitely go here again!

Pour moi, ce sera pavé de saumon avec potatoes maisons et asperges: simple mais délicieux !

I get really giddy when a place has beautiful outdoor seating and the patio here is perfect for the spring! It’s decorated like an outdoor wedding venue type with flowers and vines all around. The lighting on the inside is darker than preferred and feels a little tight so I recommend sitting outside if the weather is right.
We had a large party and our server was fantastic. She informed us that all the drinks are made with fresh ingredients and recommended different tourist attractions. Maybe I’m a little wuss but the drinks were super strong (even the fruity drinks). So maybe ask the waiter to go easy if you’re not a strong drinker. It was also my friend’s bachelorette party and she offered some sweet advice and complimentary pink lemonade shots :)
Definitely try the shrimp and grits!!! & if shrimp isn’t your thing, the scrambled egg plate is a simple and satisfying plate. Their bacon is so light and crisp with little fat. Many of the girls ordered coffee but I got the cappuccino and I want to say it’s better than Starbucks– just the right blend of bitter and sweet.
Everything was lovely. The service was attentive, helpful, and friendly. The food came out all at once and the portions were just right. I have zero complaints about this café. Definitely a must try in the NOLA area.

This is the «to go» place in NOLA. People, I kid you not, one of the best dinners in USA I have had so far. Everything was excellent. This place has inside and outside areas that even in a chilly night is well lit and warmed by heaters. It is pretty romantic for a date because it has a dim light in the evening.
I had crab cake, onion soup, and trout. Also had house made pudding, they use croissants to make their puddings !!! Can you believe that? Yes, it was insane good. Not heavy at all. The trout tasted like it was just caught, and the combination of flavor included a Cajun touch without being too sharp. Just perfect.
Their drinks were not too sweet which Is a great pair with your food and they were with the right amount of alcohol too.
This place is just spectacular. Not cheap though, but totally worth it. I would come again, and again, and again, and. Well, you got the idea !

Amazing meal, lovely service — highly recommend.
Wound up in the French quarter on a Wednesday night and realized the restaurant we had reservations in was about a 20 minute drive away. I did a Unilocal search for nearby restaurants and found Café Amelie and boy am I happy we did!
They have a lovely outdoor courtyard (unfortunately it was raining) so we headed inside. I called ahead to find out they won’t take same day reservations but if we wanted to come in the wait would be about an hour (we were planning to meet up and eat at 8pm at the other spot and it was only 7pm) so we headed there and had a cocktail at the bar (the wait wound up being only about 40mins).
Inside is a charming dining room that feels like someone’s home. (Assuming it was at one point in time).
First of all, the bartender was excellent. Very accommodating and makes some delicious craft cocktails. I had a Moscow mule but it was made with grapefruit vodka — it was wonderful.
We then were seated and were greeted by our server Shaina. She knew the menu and we let her work up an assortment of appetizers and main courses. Shrimp and grits (to DIE for), charred brussel sprouts, Amelie oysters (spinach dip with oysters in it) — all great.
Then we shared our main courses which were the red fish, the lamb shank (fall off the bone delish), the duck (heavenly) and the pork chop which was double cut thick and delicious. The accompanying sides were equally as good and everything was eaten.
Of course we then asked Shaina to bring us 3 desserts — so we got a warm bread pudding that had like toffee or something in it omg so good, a doberge 9 layer cake (kings cake) and a hot chocolate molten lava cake topped with ice cream — yeah perfect.
Don’t hesitate to come here — I imagine the courtyard is even more magical.

The inside was fun, bt not as amazing az outside tables. Unfortunately as soon as we sat it started raining and we had to go inside.
They were a little slow, but other than that, the service and food were good. breads were fresh and high quality.
Waiting time may be disappointing, but they will text you whenever your table is ready and will give you 10 minutes. so go there, put your name down and then enjoy royal street untill your table is ready.

Gorgeous spot in the French Quarter.
Came here to kick off a bachelorette weekend. Although it was a chilly evening (57F), we could not pass up sitting in the gorgeous courtyard. Lucky for us they have heat lamps.
The host and wait staff were attentive and friendly. I would probably make reservations to make sure you get seated on busier weekends.
Started with the drinks obviously. Def get the deep eddy mule if you like Moscow Mules. Tried my friend’s orange blossom and that was tasty as well. The Amelie was good as well. We were all very happy with our drinks. Also had the figs and goat cheese with our cocktails. Brings three slice of bread with goat cheese spread on it and a very generous portion of fig jam. Would recommend!
Now for the starters/​entrees. I did have to knock a star for my chicken and andouille gumbo. It was waaaaaaaay too salty as a previous reviewer stated. I did try my friends’ entrees and those were VERY good. My advice is don’t fall in the «I must try New Orleans foods trap and order something else. My friend’s roasted chicken breast entrée was delicious and very juicy. The other friend ordered the seared ahi tuna and although I don’t love tuna it was good! Well portioned as well.
I know you’ll be full after your drinks, apps, and entrée, but leave some space for the Doberge cake. That day they had a key like pie Doberge cake and it was to die for. I have never tried this layered pudding cake and I can say I am a fan after trying it! Good balance of citrus and sugar and if it wasn’t so rich I would’ve finished it myself. I was very happy to have my friends help me finish this slice!
Please add Café Amelie on your itinerary if visiting NOLA! This restaurant is the perfect setting for a great dinner with friends or family or even a romantic date night!

TIP: Make reservations for brunch cuz the wait time is crazy!
I made reservations on a Friday night for Saturday afternoon and was lucky enough to get a table for 3 in the courtyard.
We ended up landing super early and super hungry so we walked over to see if we would get lucky with a table. No dice. We walked around beautiful Royal and returned for our reservation.
The entrance to this place is a bit hard to find, since you enter through the courtyard, but once you enter you’ll see the beautiful magical garden. We came on a sunny warm day and the garden just glistened. They have a fountain in the center with a few patio benches for hanging out while you wait for your table.
Now for the food: my sister had the bell pepper shrimp appetizer, my other sister had the chicken and waffle (singular — one half of a waffle) and I had the shrimp and grits. All dishes were delish but the bell pepper shrimp stood out the most. The shrimps were pretty big and the flavor was orgasmic. The shrimp and grits was actually really small and had very little shrimp. I’ve definitely had better versions of this dish. The chicken is not fried which was disappointing but still had great flavor. I had ~several~ rounds of the Amelie cocktail — which was perfect, refreshing and strong.
Love this place, can’t wait to come back to NOLA. Highly recommend it.

3.5 stars. The garden is quite nice and the service was really on point, but what I came here was grits and they didn’t quite deliver.
Now, as a girl from Norcal I’m not exactly a grits expert, BUT yesterday I had amazing grits at a place on Magazine street. Those were just grits, butter, and chives and they were heavenly. I told my friend «it tastes like comfort food even though I didn’t grow up eating these!» That’s magic.
Here, however, the grits did not match up – they were creamy but to the point of being chunky with whole bits hardened up. Also, for 13 dollars I was hoping for more than 3 pieces of shrimp. Finally, the sauce on top was good but overpowering as it felt like I was just eating mostly this sauce.
The pot of tea we were given originally wasn’t even hot enough to brew the leaves and we had to ask for a replacement pot which the waitress was very happy to do. She also was gracious enough to take this off our tab – like I said, great service.
Also, tasty bread and nice heated bathrooms all add up to another ½ star! It’s the little things, people.

Great garden and perfect for out door dining. We had cat fish sandwich, Belgian waffle, nine layer cake and gumbo. The waffle was pretty good, fluffy and slightly chewy without being too sweet. The sandwich was fresh and taste really good. The gumbo is flavorful, although slightly too salty and spicy.
I recommend skipping the nine layer cake for $ 10. The icing is really dry and it seems the cake has been sitting there for a long time. It is too sweet. Plus, the same cake at Amelie Petie (I am not sure whether it is the same brand) is sold for $ 5. I suppose it is the price difference between the a café and a restaurant.

Beautiful outdoor garden. Vintage fountain. Great food. Café Amelie serves some smacking good plates. The server was incredibly friendly.
Our first meal in NOLA did not disappoint. We sat in the garden when it was still 55 degrees. It didn’t matter since there were heated lamps outside.
We ordered 3 starters and soups. The shrimp and grits were phenomenal. Can’t compare it against the other million restaurants that serve it but holy shi… It was damn good. The corn in there adds a sweet savory touch. There is even a bit of kick. Must order.
The gumbo was also great. It tasted like a Campbell’s hearty and chunky gumbo only 20 times better. Also has a kick.
The Brussel sprouts included dates and bacon in a sweet balsamic vinegarette sauce. It was good but not great. I could pass on this.
Otherwise, Café A is a sure bet for beautiful scenery and tasty food that’s affordable.

My boyfriend and I were recommended Café Amelie by his coworkers who had had dinner here on their previous dinner trip. They passionately claimed it as the best dinner they had in New Orleans.
The food is so good in NOLA — I don’t know how anyone could choose a «favorite». But I do understand why they would give Café Amelie that title.
We had the Shrimp N’ Grits. It will be the best of that dish you will EVER have. I promise you. We also had the chicken gumbo and the veggie pasta. Both were so flavorful and made (clearly) with love.
The atmosphere in the courtyard is SO romantic. It’s wonderful for a cozy dinner with your significant other. The fairy lights, the water fountain, the soft glow from the inside of the restaurant illuminating happy (and full) faces = ¹⁰⁄₁₀.
