New Orleans first café & bakery specializing in organic artisan breads baked in the Old World tradition in a stone hearth oven. We serve breakfast & lunch, including sandwiches made with natural organic ingredients on our fresh baked breads & biscuits, veggie quiches & tarts, grits and a daily soups. Our pastries, including a full vegan selection, are always from scratch, such as traditional New Orleans king cakes, fresh tartes, cakes, flaky croissants and pain au chocolat, as well as a line of Irish tea biscuits, cinnamon rolls, brownies and cookies. Our coffees and espressos are organic, fair trade. And we serve beer & organic wines.

History

Established in 2012.

Sean O’Mahony has always been passionate about bread baking. At one time, 90% of the bread eaten in the city was made by local bakers, with baking techniques consisting of long fermentations of more than 12 hours. After studying the history of breads in New Orleans, he wanted to bring back the Old World French breads and baking style to the city. Sean learned the art of bread baking by studying under Master French Bakers and World Champions. As it was 100 years ago, Sean wants to make New Orleans the greatest bread city in America.

Sean and Chamain O.

Business Owner

Sean & Chamain met in 1987 in Atlanta working in an Italian restaurant and married shortly after. Sean has always had a passion for terrific European breads – esp. a French country sourdough and Chamain, a native of NOLA and a vegan, wanted the heartier whole grain breads. Both Sean & Chamain have graduate degrees in business from Tulane and Emory, respectively, so after working as business consultants for the past 25+ years, they decided to get back to their main love – great food. The result… Breads On Oak!
