Avenue Inn Bed & Breakfast

The Avenue Inn is a great place to stay in New Orleans. It’s on the edge of the Garden District, right on Saint Charles Avenue. The street is canopied by beautiful, huge Live Oak trees. The neighborhood is filled with southern charm. Joe and Bebe are amazing hosts. They know New Orleans — every nook and cranny. Their advice and recommendations are spot on every time, and they are happy to help plan your stay and book reservations to make the most of your visit. I highly recommend the Avenue Inn!

Beautiful room and home in the Garden District. Convenient to the trolley line, which provided easy access to the French Quarter and downtown. Hosts were pleasant and knowledgable about NOLA and the various attractions.
My only complaint was for a B and B the breakfast was meager. Cold cereal, coffee cake and bruised fruit was minimal. Maybe I was expecting too much from a B and B, but I get a better hot breakfast from Best Western.
Almost forgot, the toilet ran water the first night, parts were replaced the third day and the toilet continued to run the forth night. For almost $ 250.00 a night I expect more.

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay. Owners are great and location is ideal – steps away from St Charles Ave trolley line. Great neighborhood and house. Highly recommend this for anyone wanting to enjoy a short visit to NOLA.

What a wonderful find. Beautiful historic mansion on St Charles in a great location. We celebrated our birthdays and anniversary here. Joe and Bebe, the owners, could not be more gracious or hospitable. As others noted, you are greeted with warm cookies and we too received a lovely room upgrade in honor of our celebrations.
Location is fabulous — a 20 – 25 minute wonderful streetcar ride away from the noise of the french quarter (stop literally at the door) with cars coming every 10 minutes — getting around was super easy — even at 1 am — we were thrilled not to have a car.
Nice, easy places to walk to as well — garden district, magazine street, SHAYA restaurant, Le Bön Temp where Soul Rebels play (not to missed if they are in town) and Hansen’s snoballs.
Amazingly huge «continental» breakfast that includes hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, pastries and more. You can eat outside on the veranda or in the lovely garden out front. It doesn’t get any better to imagine what life was like in NOLA, living in a grand house.
Gracious stay with wonderful folks. Highly recommend.

For those of us who don’t live in one of those beautiful mansions on St. Charles Ave. this is your opportunity to experience the grandeur of southern living. The rooms with their high ceilings and huge windows overlook the streetcar line. Homemade breads are baked fresh daily for breakfast and there are many restaurants and bars in the surrounding area.
Staying at the Avenue Inn Bed and Breakfast gives you a completely different New Orleans experience. It is one of culture and elegance in the Uptown/​Garden District. It may be a short cab or streetcar ride the French Quarter but it feels like you are in another city.

My wife and I were here for our anniversary and had a wonderful stay! Location in the Garden District was close enough to the Quarter, but enough away to avoid the craziness.
Joe the owner was great. He greeted us with warm cookies and upgraded our room for our anniversary.

This place is gorgeous! We stayed in the honeymoon suite for our 10^th anniversary and were very impressed with everything from the comfortable bed to the cute four claw bathtub that was original to the house. Joe and his wife are super friendly and more than willing to help with restaurant recommendations, things to do, etc. They put together a small vow renewal ceremony for us that was beautiful and surpassed our expectations.
Be sure to go to superior oyster bar right down the street for some amazing chargrilled oysters!

Found the Avenue Inn Bed and Breakfast after an internet search and what a find! Had an amazing stay and all the tips from the inn keepers were great. We had a great time and look forward to many more. From the first phone call to the days spent at the Inn, both Joe and Bebe were fantastic to deal with. Call and get ready to to enjoy your stay!

Joe and Bebe are thoughtful and detail oriented hosts. Their beautiful B&B is nestled in the Garden District on the tree-​lined St. Charles Ave. – walking distance from Magazine Street and situated in a gorgeous residential area. Their sunny front patio is perfect for a relaxing breakfast as you watch the streetcars roll by. Our large room was quiet and decorated in a vintage style with all the modern conveniences. Joe and Bebe know the area inside and out and can recommend restaurant and transportation options as you need them. We were very happy with our choice and would definitely stay there again.

I can not imagine a better experience. The innkeeper and his wife were helpful, informative and knowledgeable: they offered food recommendations, tourist sights and live music or shopping locations. When we go back, my husband and I will stay here again. While we were there several couples were return guests as well.

We loved this B&B! Joe and BeBe go out of their way to make your stay memorable and they are very helpful. The breakfast is continental so there is no pressure to arrive at the dining room at a certain time. They have a lovely patio where you can enjoy your food. The house and rooms are clean and comfortable. They are very close to a trolley stop and the beautiful Audubon Park and Zoo. If you are runner, you can easily jog there and enjoy breathtaking views. My husband and I enjoyed how quiet it was there and it was away from the craziness of the French Quarter, but close enough that we could go in and out of the city easily. I recommend this to anyone traveling to NOLA.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Avenue Inn Bed and Breakfast for four nights in the beginning of March. We wanted to stay away from the French Quarter but have easy access to it. The Inn was perfect for us — in a lovely, quiet neighborhood and easy to reach everywhere else in the city. We were conveniently able to stroll down Magazine Street and all through the Garden District from there. Joe and Bebe made us feel at home immediately, welcoming us with warm cookies and a great sense of humor. They’re very knowledgeable about the local restaurant scene and happy to give recommendations.
We stayed in the king room (Joe calls it the «Mardi Gras» room because it looks onto St. Charles). It has its own private entrance on the porch, a comfortable bed, and big windows that let in lots of good natural light. It’s very quiet despite being in the front of the house. It rained for much of our trip so we had a nice ritual of waking up late and getting a beignet breakfast at the coffee shop next door. We enjoyed having our breakfast on the rocking chairs on the porch or at the café table in our room. The Inn is beautiful so I’m sure you can’t go wrong with any of the rooms.
We loved our stay at the Avenue Inn and will definitely return next time we’re in New Orleans. Thanks Joe and Bebe!

My husband and I spent five days here and really enjoyed our stay! The house is beautiful and also very homey. Joe was very welcoming and friendly, answering all our questions about New Orleans and what to do. Throughout the trip he gave us good recommendations for restaurants and activities. When we checked in we showed interest in the house, so before walking us to our room Joe took the time to show us around and talk about restoring the house and the history of some of the furniture. Our room was lovely and very comfortable with a private bathroom and a small sitting area. Also, the location is great! A quiet neighborhood uptown and right in front is the St. Charles street car which took us right to all the places in New Orleans we wanted to see. We had rented a car also to drive out of the city, but no worries there is parking out back, as well as street parking in front of the house.
The continental breakfast was a treat — besides the normal bagels, toast, and coffee, there were fresh-​baked pastries every morning. We also had options of fresh fruit, cereals (both hot and cold), and a mini-​fridge with yogurt and hard-​boiled eggs. All this in a beautiful dining room. In addition, there is a corner that has bowls of snacks available 24-​hours a day. When we’d come in from our daily activities, we’d always stop by and pick up some crackers, granola bars, or cookies to take back to our room.
All in all we felt very welcome and comfortable. I would recommend the Avenue Inn to anyone who wants to visit New Orleans!

Truly as good as it gets!
Our family of 5 felt as though we were staying in the home of friends — Joe and Bebe were not only generous with their time and accommodations, but also they were patient and thoughtful hosts.
The house — Beautiful mansion at a great location. Close enough to the French Quarter that its a short drive, cab or cable car ride away, but situated in a neighborhood that feels home-​y and is more quiet. The rooms were generously sized and the water pressure was fantastic (a real treat for Californians accustomed to low-​flow shower heads!).
The breakfast — Joe and Bebe are clear and direct about the expectations for the breakfast provided… it is still plentiful and varied. We were very satisfied, and ready to explore NOLA after enjoying the food and company of fellow guests!
The rockers– We loved the rockers on the porch. Oh man.
We truly loved the city of NOLA, but our trip was made so much more special because of Avenue Inn and its proprietors– all of my responses to any questions about my holiday travels have begun with, «We stayed at this fantastic Bed and Breakfast…». It was truly a memorable time for us, in large to Joe and Bebe’s hospitality and guidance.

This is a wonderful place to stay and it is the only place we stay when we come to New Orleans. The service is excellent without being overbearing like some bed-​and-​breakfasts can be. It has a great location on St. Charles the decour is comfortable and interesting and Joe is a walking tour book of everything in New Orleans — restaurants entertainment places to go. We recommend
the Avenue Inn to all of our friends and family.

This place is awesome!
A few weeks ago I stayed here for four days, working from my room for a couple of days and visiting my son who’s a junior at Tulane and who was attending a summer school business program.
Joe and Bebe and their wonderful housekeeper (I feel so badly that I can’t think of her name, but she’s fantastic) truly made me feel at home. The place is so homey and comfortable, it felt like I was staying in the home of old friends or favorite relatives!!!
Along with their terrific accommodations and service, they provided spot-​on recommendations for places to eat — and they hit it out of the park when I said i wanted to go to a really local place with great food that would be something different for me, my son, and several of his school friends. They turned us onto Frankie & Johnny’s, a neighborhood bar and restaurant over on Arabella near Tchoupitoulas St. that’s been there since 1942. It is a must visit place… and it’s the kind of local insight that Joe and Bebe are so quick to turn you onto!
My wife and I have visited New Orleans many times over the past few years, to see our son, and we’ve always stayed in nice hotels. But from now on, we’ll be staying with Joe and Bebe, as long as they have room.

Before meeting my fiancé I never fancied a stay at a bed & breakfast. I’m sociable but usually the idea of interacting with people I don’t know at a place away from home in place of a hotel just always felt like a very weird concept to me. It’s something I can honestly say I never thought I’d try. Hotels suited me just fine. You interacted with someone once and then you were done and that was. well that was ok. However Stefanie convinced me to try a bed & breakfast a couple years ago and I enjoyed it so when she wanted to do it for New Orleans I wasn’t opposed and told her to find one she thought would be good and go for it.
I’m an email type person and the host of Avenue Inn B&B, Joe, was kind enough to answer all of my emailed questions in a timely and personal manner which I greatly appreciated as taking trips are somewhat apprehensive for me and I like everything planned out. I also spoke with Joe a couple of times on the phone and he was quite nice so I was optimistic about our stay.
The place was quite easy to find and in a good neighborhood where I felt safe. And believe me, from what I read about New Orleans that’s a pretty big deal to consider when you think about where to stay if you’re coming in not knowing anything about the city. Joe was very welcoming and explained how everything worked. He took our payment up front (we had already done a deposit) and answered all of our questions. Avenue Inn is predicated upon respectful people who are responsible and well behaved during their stay and I think that’s a big consideration when you decide to stay here. If you’re a 20-​something looking to hit up Bourbon street every night and get all drunk and come in at 4am I suppose you could stay here but you’d probably be better served elsewhere.
We were then introduced to our room and it was gorgeous. I posted many pictures for you to see. Our king sized bed was huge and unbelievably comfortable. My fiancé said it was the best nights sleep she had had in years and I agreed with her on that point. Our room was room number 3 and I really liked it so much that if we go back I may actually re-​request that specific room. It had a nice big spacious feel to it with the vaulted ceilings, dining room of to the side and pretty good sized bathroom. Importantly for me the place was AIR-​CONDITIONED (our last B&B in Ohio was not, something you must consider when considering a historical B&B is that it may not have A/​C btw…) and most importantly it stayed very nice and cool 72 degrees the entire time we were there. I’m a wimp when it comes to the heat and the heat in New Orleans is no joke so having a nice, cool and private place to relax in the evenings is a huge deal to me.
I will say I was a little disappointed we didn’t get a cooked-​to-​order breakfast like we did at our stay in the Ohio B&B but it wasn’t too big of a factor for us as we wanted to eat at plenty of spots in New Orleans so we probably wouldn’t have used it anyways and I think, as Joe had said, that is also the reason he doesn’t do the eggs, gravy, bacon, etc is that most folks who are visiting are there for FOOD and thus he gives you ample things to tide you over in the form of boiled eggs, cereal, some delicious pastries and different manners of fruit. In the end what I viewed initially as a disappointment in having no cooked-​to-​order breakfast turned out to be a very moot point as I didn’t miss it.
Joe has met a lot of famous people, as evidenced by his huge book of pictures in the hallway (which you MUST check out, it’s really cool) and he is very personable. His wife Bebe is also quite nice as well, although we only saw her once or twice during our stay. Joe was able to really alleviate all of my fears about getting mugged, beaten or outright murdered during my time in New Orleans. Perhaps all of my reading of stories before visiting may have been a bad idea but Joe was able to ease my mind and help me enjoy myself by being a bit less paranoid. All of the amenities were fantastic, the shower was great and we really enjoyed ourselves, I can think of absolutely zero complaints about our room even if I tried…
My only regret at staying at the Avenue Inn is that we didn’t get a little more face time to talk to Joe and Bebe. I’d really like to hear his story and I’m sure he has a bunch of great stories about New Orleans himself. I wonder, for example, what he did in his younger years to meet so many celebrities? I really liked Joe, just would have liked to have seen more of him, but maybe next time. Thanks to Joe also for recommending Snug Harbors Jazz bar!
One last nice thing to mention here, the Avenue Inn has a wonderful porch to sit on in the mornings (when it’s only hot, not damned hot!) and I’d recommend you sit aside a bit of time to slow down and just relax one morning after breakfast and sit on the porch and take in some of the New Orleans charm. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! We will def. be back.
