Let me just start with NEVER-​EVER-​EVER-​AGAIN
I swear this was straight out of a horror movie.
After taking 45 min to check in (one guy working) we find out there is no room key there
is a guy running back and forth opening doors for people. get to our room only 2 our of what 6 outlets actually work. the room had a weird smell so we shut down the air unit that was from the 80’s and try to open the window… ahhh nope only opened a inch… having to rush to get ready because check in took forever (actually felt bad for the guy) go to take a shower and my feet are sliding because there is soap still on the bottom from the last people. whatever so getting ready to leave call down to see id the shuttle is on its way. phones don’t work! check cell phones no service! so we go down and there people waiting we get to Mohegan 5 minutes after our show starts… going back to the hotel we FINALLY get to have a key to our room. get up stairs… DOESNT WORK! next morning I don’t think we could have gotten out of there fast enough.

This place is terrible, save your money. I will never stay here again. We walked in and they had one person working the front desk with about 20 people in line. We went to check in and they had no keys for any rooms but they would have them by 7pm. The maintenance guy had to let us in. I don’t know what difference 2.5 hours would have made. Even when you get cards for the room they didn’t even with. We got to the room and the ironing board fell apart, there is no place to lock your valuables and there is a place for a refrigerator but no fridge. The pillows on the bed smelled like cigarettes and are the size of a throw pillow. The heater was extremely loud and sounded like an airplane taking off. The continental breakfast was not so continental and included cardboard cereal and minimal drink selection and quickly ran out of cups. The shuttle bus pick from the casino was late and only fit 13 people, we squeezed 21 because a cab ride for 4 people was $ 45. They previously drove 17 and 19 people in the shuttle, such a huge liabilityThey don’t answer their phones if you have guest room issues, they have Wi-​Fi, but it doesn’t work.

I like Clarion a lot but would never stay here a second time.
There isn’t an awful lot to say about this hotel. If you have stayed at one Choice Hotel, you’ve pretty much stayed at all of them. The hotel is staff is friendly and the furniture is comfortable. The price is reasonable for the area and it is a name you trust and believe in. As far as positives, that’s about as far as it goes.
Let’s start with the location of the hotel. It’s located conveniently off of 95, so getting to either Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun is easy if you plan on driving yourself. By the way, PLAN ON DRIVING YOURSELF. The shuttle at this hotel is an absolute DISASTER! They tell you they run it and over the phone we were told we were 8 miles from Mohegan Sun. We aren’t, we are 12 miles away. The shuttle runs ONCE an hour and takes a grand total of 12 people, which they don’t tell you until you are in the lobby and the thing is full. We ended up having to split an Über with some other people. We had dining reservations and they were going to miss the start of their concert as they had been shut out of 2 shuttles.
Any other hotel we’ve stayed in have run shuttles continuously, and when busy have had more than one. There was no reason for people to start calling cabs after waiting 2 hours for a shuttle. If I wanted to get a car to take me, I’d have stayed at a cheaper hotel. The ice machine on our floor has been disconnected and the vending machine was removed. At breakfast they were almost out of OJ, ran out of plates and waffle mix, and the machine that dispenses the other kinds of juice was not working. The toilet in our room stopped working properly on our last day and we were out of toilet paper upon check in. They were more than happy to give us more but we shouldn’t have to ask for it. If you see it is done, you replace it.
When getting ready to check out we did a once over of the room to make sure we left nothing behind and found shards of broken glass under the bathroom sink. We also found a ton of scotch take patches throughout the room. We informed the lady at the desk, who was perfectly nice but her response was «really? That’s our best section of the hotel». That’s the BEST section?
Do yourself a favor and avoid if possible.

Upon check in I was promised a 10% AAA Discount by the GM, Mike. Stayed 3 days and everyday I was there I still did not receive an updated invoice as promised. I disputed with my credit card after I got home and they credited my account. On ¹²⁄₂₄ I receive a letter from my bank saying that Mike, the GM will not honor my 10% AAA. I am very disappointed with this outcome, especially when I was promised it upon check in. What kind of way is this to treat a customer? If you need that 10% so badly, keep it. However, I will NEVER set foot at a Clarion again and I will definitely not recommend to AAA or my friends and family.

The Bad (***Hotel under RENOVATIONS***):
Locks on doors ought to be replaced. Ice from machine always causes puddles in front of Exit Door (possible Slip&Fall). Consider moving machine closer to the wall. Exit Sign in vending area closest to hotel/​restaurant parking lot needs to be adjusted. No complimentary Decaf coffee. Currently no working vending machines (3 types of sodas for $ 1 & some candy bars next to front desk). Hotel itself was chilly. No elevators.
The Good:
Design Upgrades in lobby area. Newly tiled and arranged breakfast area. 24-​hour Complimentary coffee station in lobby. Updated desk and entertainment/​dresser in rooms. New LG flat screen HDTVs in rooms (lots of Digital channels). Strong Wifi reception. Privacy shades added to window in rooms. Updated bathroom fixtures. FRIENDLY & HELPFUL Staff. Comfortable settings.
Notes: Clean coffeemaker Daily. Add an Unscented Fabric Softener with towels. Consider Fans in bathrooms.
Really Impressive. I look forward to the FINISHED product. WILL stay here again.

A wonderful hidden gem along 95 in the heart of New London conveniently located near Coast Guard Academy. Under new ownership, with a great staff and upper management team. Give them a chance.

Took the shuttle over to Mohegan Sun in snow storm. The last shuttle driver Scott turned back and got us. He drove so carefully and got us back safe!!! Thanks so much!!! Kudos!!! Your the best!!!

This place had terrible reviews, however rooms were renovated & very clean. Great hotwire purchase and very friendly staff!

Friendly staff, nice clean room with comfortable bed. You can tell that the place has been around for a while, but they do a nice job of keeping the things they can updated. Some things they really need to take care of are the outdated CRT TV. I’m amazed this thing still works. Has to be at least 10 years old, probably more. (I took a picture so I could show my son what TVs use to look like). The biggest problem is the bright light outside the window that doesn’t have blackout curtains to block it out. All you have are the wispy white curtain that most places have behind the real curtain. Crazy.

Worst check in experience ever! It was so bad and the person was so rude that I decided not to stay there.
Going into this my expectations were low based on the below average reviews and it was even worse. Attempted to check in with my primary credit card (room was prepaid via Priceline) for incidentals and their system would not take the card (first for me in 12 years I had card) and said she had to call cc company for voice authorization. My cc company kept stating it should go through and would not authorize via voice which I expect. When I told her the issue is with her computer system her tone changed for the worse and treated me and my wife like dirt. I used the same card three hours before without issue and was 100% sure it was not my card.
She would not check us in with the glitch and wanted another card or 100 in cash. I was not going to use my debit and have a 2 week hold and I did not trust her with cash. Knowing my card was good I called priceline to complain. Priceline briefly talked to the clerk with no resolution to the issue before asking me if I want to cancel and get a refund. Kudos to Priceline service and I did cancel the reservation.
As we are leaving the front desk the clerk yelled at us that I have a bad card in font of everyone else in line.
Here’s the best part — from their lobby I logged into expedia, book a room with another hotel in same town with the card clarion inn claimed it was bad, and checked in with same card WITHOUT ISSUE!
I will never book another choice hotel property again knowing their reservation system stinks. Moving forward I will also only book hotwire or priceline properties with a very high customer rating. Now I unfortunately know why I booked clarion inn for well under fifty bucks.

I’m not a person that complains about everything but I thought this hotel was ok at best. I got a good deal online and it was for my fiances bday. We checked in fine. The receptionist was nice. When we got to the room, we noticed a big old tv. It’s fine no problem but when I put it on, It was very dark and couldn’t see anything. I called and they sent a maintenance guy up to fix it. It was fine. We checked in early and they gave us a room on the second floor all the way at the end of the building. It was a little bit of a walk. And when I tried to use the FREE Wifi. It didn’t work well at all. It didn’t work at all really. I was going to call the front desk but what would they have done? move us? no i dont think so. I just let it go. It was a descent hotel at best. I would stay again if the price was right. The parking is free. The free breakfast was not bad. Bagels, muffins, etc. Pretty good. Not far from the casinos. It’s not the best but not the worst either.

Worst hotel experience ever. The first room they put us in on the first floor smelled heavily of mold, as did the hallway outside the room. Broken phone, 2 tiny beds, broken lamp, television that dated from 1980, and a toilet that ran constantly, and Wi-​fi that was inoperable. After complaining, they moved us to the second floor (no elevator, heavy bags), and the only bright spot in that room was that it did not smell of mold.
The maintenance at this hotel is awful, the cleaning haphazard, and the staff is indifferent.
They also posted a $ 68 charge onto our credit card after we had checked out that they later removed.
Would never, ever, even consider staying here again. I’m not even sure I will use
again for sending me here!

Stayed here for a few days on a whirlwind trip. Ok place; the room was clean and the cleaning staff did a good job. The free continental breakfast was cereal, fruit, donuts and bagels. The food presentation left a lot to be desired and one morning we just skipped it because it did not look good. I can’t really complain much as I got a good deal for the three nights we stayed. They are also renovating some areas, but that wasn’t bothersome and our room was comfortable and pretty quiet for such a big place. The Outback restaurant adjacent to the hotel was good and it was very convenient.

Update — Danica from the hotel’s management quickly reached out to me to find out more about my challenges with our stay. She offered a discount on a future stay and asked questions in order to improve the overall situation. I added a second star for the prompt follow-​up from Danica.
Original review: There’s no pool! Broken indefinitely. Families coming here for the kids to swim beware!
Stinky bathroom and the staff isn’t that friendly. You get what you pay for. Arrived at 10pm and front desk receptionist was too curt and rude for this front desk role. She wasn’t mean, but she certainly wasn’t warm or pleasant. No smiles and said, «I’ll be right with you.» After a minute I explained I had 2 tired babies in the car and needed to check-​in. I used
and booked 2 double beds, but was told their system had 1 king bed. I showed them my
booking reservation and was told, «That’s hotels.com’s problem, not ours.» She did offer to move us into a room with 2 double beds.
It’s now 10.30pm and there are two issues — a dozen high school senior boys are playing football very loudly in the parking lot that is surrounded by all the rooms, and there’s a family at the edge of the parking lot blasting deep bass music and bbq’ing. I called front desk and ask the un-​friendly receptionist said she’d send someone. 15 min passed and the noise from the football game got even louder, and the music from the family bbq was still blasting. I call again and am told rudely, «there’s nothing we can do about it.» How is there nothing they can do about two serious noise issues happening on their property? I went outside and politely asked the boys to move their game down the lot and away from all the rooms and they happily obliged. I went to the family and asked them to turn the bass down a bit and they happily obliged. This is what the Clarion staff couldn’t do?
The next morning (Sunday) at check-​out, I tell the supervisor that the
reservation didn’t match what we were given and that I thought she should be aware, and she responds, «You should call
and tell them». I explained that I was simply letting her know so that she’s aware that her guests are being given wrong information and she repeats rudely, «You need to call
, not tell me this.»
Oh, and our bathroom smelled like urine. Strong urine.

Wow! What a difference a few months makes. I just came back from this place (spent the new year at the Casinos up there) and my experience couldn’t have been more different. From the time we checked in, we were laughing and joking around with the staff. Danica was my personal hero for the entire six day trip. She went above and beyond the call of duty by finding (then washing and ironing) my pants *don’t ask*. The spread for breakfast was awesome. Chaffing dishes full of eggs, sausage, pastry, etc. My personal favorite thing was the shuttle that ran to the casino. This place was about as good as it gets. In case you’re wondering why it gets 4 stars instead of 5, it’s because they advertised a pool on the website even though it’s been closed for months. Personally I could’ve cared less but it was one of the deciding points for the girl.

This place was brutal. It started off with the woman at the front desk not even giving us the time of day to look up from her computer when we checked in. It then escalated to our room being 2 double beds, instead of the 1 king bed we had reserved about 3 weeks in advance online. Then came breakfast the next day. A continental breakfast provided by the hotel. This breakfast entailed a loaf of bread (literally, still in the bag), a couple of dime size bagels with about 3 cream cheese packets left, and juice. There were no hot items to be seen anywhere. All in all, between the rude front desk woman and the absolutely pitiful «continental breakfast», we will not be back at this hotel.
