History

Established in 2011.

We scour the state of Connecticut (and the Midwest and Deep South from time to time) to bring you the very best clothing, shoes and accessories from times past. We focus on everyday, wearable vintage. You won’t find many costumes in our shop. 95% of our inventory is Made in the USA — and is often more well-constructed than anything you can find today. Vintage is not just for costume parties and your grandma (even though she may be fabulous); Instead, our customers seek one-of-a-kind, well-made, on trend pieces that can be reinterpreted, and mixed and matched within their existing wardrobes — to express a unique personal style.

in 2013 Vintanthromodern created a traveling vintage shop called The Vintanthromobile and has since operated it’s brick and mortar space at 938 State Street in the East Rock neighborhood of New Haven.

Meet the Business Owner

Melissa G.

Business Owner

From the Daily Nutmeg:

«She started Vintanthromodern Vintage in not-so-vintage 2011. She admits the business name is a mouthful, and it turns out that’s the point. „People suggested that I change it from the very beginning,“ she says, „but I’m really stubborn – I promise that once you figure out how to pronounce it, you won’t forget it and that’s what, I think, gives it a lot of character.“

An art teacher during the day, she works on Vintanthromodern much of the rest of the time, finding the right clothing and curating collections to sell. Her interest in historical fashion is longstanding; flip through her high school yearbook and you’ll find Gonzales decked out in a sweet vintage velour shirt amidst a rather dreary sea of Gap logo tees.

Over the years, Gonzales has relentlessly sifted, combed and browsed, accumulating quite a mass of clothing, jewelry and accessories…»
