The subs and sandwiches here are probably the best in the downtown area. Far better than Aladdin. Much better than Subway just a couple doors away.
That said, I am skeptical about the sanitary conditions here. There is salad bar in the middle which I have seen some unclean customers picking at with their fingers while waiting for a sandwich to be made. There is even a «don’t touch» sign, which suggests this is a chronic problem. And, I can’t say that the kitchen area’s appearance gives me the greatest confidence in sanitation, either.
As a convenience store, its prices are really high — which is a shame.

I got a simple egg and cheese sandwhich during lunch hour and it was pretty good. HOWEVER, it wasnt worth 20+ minutes of waiting in a line full of rude customers. The guy who took my order also didn’t take my name down so I had to keep checking to make sure they didnt forget since i had to go back to work. On top of that, they DIDNT USE GLOVES! no one! Not going again

seafood salad special, price was right, portion was huge, but wasnt the freshest. was really suprised to find large whole shrimp in there. will return, but probably order something someone else recommends.

The guys that work here are beyond polite, the portions are beyond generous and the quality is outstanding! If you’re in New Haven visit The Marketa!

They make the most delicious egg and cheese sandwiches! I also really like the salad bar, it’s very clean and well stocked — and not overloaded with everything under the sun. The sandwiches are made fresh and they are biggg… really great little place.

Small place, everything you need, friendly staff and they even sell OTC drugs (eg Tylenol, Advil) in single packs. Only cost me $ 1.00 for two tablets instead of having to buy an entire bottle. Thank you Marketa, it’s nice to have a friend in New Haven.
