Went in for a cleaning and to have some reoccurring tooth pain looked at. A dental hygienist did the cleaning. She struck me as competent and pleasant. A cleaning is one of those things where you’re just looking for red flags. I saw none and will go back for the cleaning. The dentist examined me for the tooth pain. The dentist is personable and thorough. Nothing readily grabbed his attention, and he spent a lot of time checking teeth and reviewing the x-ray. He showed me how the x-rays didn’t point out any cavities or other problems. In the end, he chalked the pain up to grinding. The pain has subsided, so it’s not like he missed a cavity or anything. One thing to mention is that the dentist expressed a preference against prescribing medication for grinding. Many dentists will prescribe a jaw relaxant to combat severe night grinding. The approach sits fine with me(as I mention, the pain has subsided) but if you’re looking for someone into prescribing Rxs, this likely isn’t the place for you. Bottom line: I appreciate the dentist’s efforts, felt comfortable with both him and the hygienist, and will return. FWIW, I wound up going to Dr. Samburg’s office after two friends independently referred me to him, another good sign.
