Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale

Don’t stay here. Thermometer didn’t work in room, it was hot– best I could do was to get the fan to kick on in 5 minute increments, then I had to get up and start it again. Apparently there were several rooms on my floor where prom kids decided to stay, after listening to screaming, yelling and banging for almost 2 hours, I finally called hotel security at 4:30am. Oh, and when you connect to «guest wi-​fi» it says NOTHING about a charge, so I connected. Next morning I was told I was charged $ 14.75 for connecting (and it didn’t even stay connected). Parking was $ 23 and that was a «discounted rate». I was told my $ 50 «holding deposit» would be credited back to me minus the parking, but after checking my bank account a few minutes ago, that never happened. Waiting to hear back from customer service. WAY more of a headache than it was worth– never again.

Lame. Slow, unreliable wifi for a fee. FYI Omni: it’s the 21^st century. And our in-​room TV movies did not work until a technician came and rebooted the system. Sad.

My Husband and I had to stay in New Haven for business overnight and chose to stay at the Omni New Haven Hotel for its convenient location and it’s online 4 star rating and reviews.
Upon arriving you will turn into the front of the building where polite and very helpful valet and doormen will be there waiting. They asked kindly whether we would be parking ourselves or using valet. We chose valet being that we were both pretty tired and we’re eager to get settled in after a long day. Naturally assuming we’d just tip them right there and that would be the end of it. We weren’t aware that we’d be charged an extra $ 25.00 on our bill to use valet but being that you’re going to have to pay $ 20.00 to park yourself in the garage anyway the extra $ 5.00 was worth it when they offered to throw away our Dunkin Donuts cups and even picked up some of the trash on the floor of the car from the trip up. They even offered to carry in all of our luggage which was nice but we’re not ones for people to fuss over us and politely said thank you but we’ve got it from here.
So just keep in mind that you will be paying extra for parking either way.
Upon entering the hotel you are immediately bedazzled by its beauty. Gorgeous lobby to say the least and very polite and helpful staff. We waited in line maybe 30 seconds before a gentlemen walked up to us and said I will get someone to help you immediately. We wouldn’t have minded waiting but front desk had us checked in within 4 minutes tops. The front desk customer service was polite as well and very informative. Probably the quickest check in we’ve ever experienced which was great. You’ll notice a nice little café to the right of the front desk which was great knowing that you could grab an iced coffee without even leaving the building.
We stayed in the King Corner Suite… Upon entering we were surprised they had the blinds all closed up during the day. Why hide the view unless they prefer to allow you to open them yourselves without ruining the surprise perhaps? After allowing in some light we were better able to take in our room. Our room was clean, simple, not as fancy as the lobby of course. The bathroom was small and the shower even smaller. The room fell a little short. For the price you expect a little more.
We were shocked to find out that wi-​fi is NOT free in this hotel. We’ve stayed at many many hotels and this one would be the first where they charged for wi-​fi and not only do they charge but they charge a whopping $ 9.99 per phone! So that was another extra $ 20.00 we would’ve had to tag onto the bill. Also no breakfast included either.
Again for the price we paid for our room they could’ve at least offered free wi-​fi…
The BEST thing about our stay, the king size bed. It was the most comfortable bed with the best pillows and linen we’ve ever slept in at a hotel. So needless to say we actually we are able to get some decent sleep. The only thing you will notice is that whenever the neighboring guest leave their rooms, when their doors close it will shake your entire room and whenever a toilet is flushed you will hear that as well. That was the only thing we worried about disturbing our slumber but thankfully most people slept at normal hours of the night. So it was relatively quiet. We slept with the TV on keeping the volume pretty low but if you sleep with the TV off you will most likely here city noise.
Overall it was a pleasant experience… very pricey for what you actually get especially with the extra fees but comfortable and clean.

I’m a happy frequenter of the Omni New Haven Hotel. The rooms are super clean and reasonably priced. I love how comfortable the beds are Nothing like a cozy comfy made bed to crawl into after a day of travel. I do quite enjoy the modern lobby and fitness room and the décor of the rooms are chic. The continental breakfast items are fresh and delicious. I am very happy with how accommodating the staff are and with the maid service who do a consistently great job. I have yet to go to the restaurant but have grabbed drinks at the bar from a friendly bar tender. Overall a very pleasant experience on a consistent basis.

Old, charming hotel with delightful staff, a nice bar, and severely aging infrastructure. If you book it on a good discount it’s okay. As a business traveler I appreciate the comfortable beds too.
The list of why I’d rather stay at a newer Hampton is more important. Being told by the front desk you need to let the shower run for 10+ minutes to get hot water as there is basically one pipe in the hotel. Finding that one corner in the room with a decent WiFi signal only to ultimately find the internet bandwidth is so low that the WiFi signal is irrelevant. Turning on the television to find weak signal errors and no TV despite the cable being «fine» elsewhere in the hotel.
It’s a great hotel to visit with a wonderful staff and they’re the only reason I’ll go up a star to 3 from 2. Hang on I have to warm up my shower for tomorrow…

Surprising. Mice in the lobby. Otherwise, not inspiring. Did not eat there; maybe dining would have explained the four star rating.

Had zero issues, we checked in late like one in the morning, they offered a later check out, 3pm instead of 12 which was cool! The bed was comfortable, and we had a great view of Yale university, the hotel is located right in the heart of Yale, which happened to be empty because of winter break, but there were plenty of bars, and restaurants to walk too. I would definitely stay again when we come to visit family.

Decent hotel, but this review is really just to say thanks to the kind staff who promptly found and mailed me the many items I inadvertently left behind when I checked out. Thanks!

Room was a little small and basic, but did the job just fine for an overnight stay. Check-​in staff could use some work, as they didn’t seem to know where our reservation was when we walked in.
That being said, I’m giving this place 5 stars because the rooftop restaurant was divine. Floor to ceiling windows with a gorgeous view of the city! Plus, the staff was warm and friendly… We had a big wedding party walk in close to closing, and our server/​management went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They helped us ring in the celebration with complimentary champagne and chocolate-​covered strawberries. They made great food recommendations and were patient with our group. And it seemed they had a genuinely great time hanging out with us, chatting and joking. Truly a great night made better with wonderful service.

The Omni New Haven is the nicest hotel is the area. Conveniently located in downtown and only a few blocks from Yale. Modern décor and very nice bar-​restaurant on the top floor!

The toilet in my room didn’t have a lid. Perhaps I should have requested a room switch but I was only staying for one night and didn’t feel like dealing with the hassle. That is DISGUSTING. There is no excuse for having a toilet in a fairly expensive hotel room that doesn’t have a lid. The counter where you’d keep your toiletries was right behind it. I was worried I’d accidentally knock something in there.
The hotel room was a bit dingy and dated. It’s not as modern or clean looking as the professional pictures on their website would lead you to believe. The lobby was nice and everyone who worked there was helpful and friendly. Good location close to Yale. My room had a nice view. I would never stay there again.

This place is true comfort away from home! The room was clean, the staff was friendly and the complimentary ear plugs made my room a personal cave. (I was able to get the rest that I needed). It was close to my training site (Yale). There are a lot of options for dinner in the area. I would recommend BAR (yes, that’s the name). Tavern bar for drinks, and the dumpling in the corner Asian eatery were good. For breakfast, there is a café down the block across the street from the cinema.

Stayed here for a convention that took place October 2014. I understand the price as far as the area and it being right by Yale– however I found the rooms to be pretty small which made it extremely cozy for a 4-​person room… I forget if the place had free wifi or not, if so I don’t remember it ever working. The bathroom was nice though I didn’t use any of the toiletries.
The main reason for my 2-​stars though, is based on the actual events part. The hotel had at least 3 or 4 events going on– apparently some weird anesthesia convention or something (uh, what the fuck), a wedding, an anniversary event for some Black Firemen’s Union or something, plus this weird little convention… even though some of these other things happened only one day our of the weekend, it was still really disruptive and weird. I don’t think the hotel should book more than 2 events at a time, especially if one of the events are supposed to take up most of the rooms all weekend.
One of the biggest issues was for myself, as someone who was supposed to host a presentation in one of the rooms– my panel ended up happening, partially due to my own lateness, but at the same time their staff started taking chairs out of the room… to use for one of the other events. There was a bit of confusion with that and I know there had to be some sort of agreement as far as the chair rentals and whatnot– staff shouldn’t have been taking chairs out of my room, the hotel should have had enough chairs to accommodate all of the parties taking place. They also vacated another room that was reserved for our event, for the other.
Overall I think the special events team should be a little more organized and prepared to handle a weekend like that– not overbooking rooms, or having too little equipment, etc. Hopefully in the future they’ll be able to be on top of everything. It is a really nice space though, I just hope they’ll equip themselves better next time.

Probably one of the nicest places to stay in New Haven– I really wouldn’t know otherwise. The staff have been remarkably polite and professional throughout my stay.
That said, the room I stayed in has some oddities. It’s pretty dusty for one thing and the décor definitely skews a little… old-​fashioned. But hey, you’re near Yale and in a great spot with a comfortable bed.
My only other complaint is the low quality toiletries provided in the travel sizes. I’d have brought my own shampoo (this was a bland and soapy concoction), my own soap (dried out my skin and I never have that happen), my own mouthwash (this was minty water) and maybe some toilet paper that isn’t so paper thin.
Overall– excellent place. It’s the little things, though, that leave me hoping for more in the future.

This is one of my first times staying in an Omni, and it’s a pretty decent hotel. The location of it is perfection, with bars and restaurants steps away and the Yale campus right around the corner.
The front desk woman that we dealt with was polite and professional, and our room was available a little early which was convenient. The hotel itself is a little dated, but the rooms are clean and comfortable, though simple, with your basic amenities and furniture. You get complimentary wifi if you’re a member of their rewards program, and you can sign-​up easily if that’s something you’re interested in.
The bed is very comfortable (the husband is napping on it next to me while I write this review), but the bathroom is a little small. For two people, it makes it a little cramped to get ready in the morning. I also noticed that the walls were surprisingly thick, making it easy to get a good rest without the additional noise of vacuums, etc.
Before dinner, we made a stop up at the bar on the 19^th floor, and while the bar boasts a view, you can’t really see it from the bar seating. It shares space with the restaurant, and it would have been lovely for them to reserve a few tables in the area for bar patrons who wished to enjoy the view.

Beautiful hotel. The valet is solid. the location is great especially for what you need to get to around the city in its immediate vicinity Great banquet room too. Rooms are clean, room service was pretty good. No complaints, definitely recommend to if you are staying the weekend here

Was only here for a quick one night stay. Valet parking was quick even at a late checkin hour of 12:30 AM. The rooms they gave us worked out well and they were quiet for a good night’s sleep.
In the morning we had room service before checking out and getting back on the road. It was on time and everything worked out well.
My only real complaint is counter space in the bathrooms. For a relatively roomy experience having the where it counts more is something I wish hotels, in general, would pay more attention to.

I work in downtown New Haven and will tell you first hand you will not find a more centrally located hotel than the Omni. If money was not an issue I would live here. It is close to everything I hold dear including museums and incredible restaurants. New Haven is known as the «Greatest Small City in America».
I have stayed in this hotel twice. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Typically this hotel is rather expensive. I do check often and see rooms starting at $ 200. The room rates do not include Wi-​Fi in the room which is an extra. There is free Wi-​Fi in the lobby and the ballrooms.
My last stay was Wednesday November 26, 2014. This was the day before Thanksgiving. We had bad weather and I just wanted to be safe. I booked my room through Priceline and was very happy with the rate. Sometimes you can get a 4 star hotel at an affordable rate.
I stayed in Room 708 which was close to the Ice Machine. I was happy with this. My only complaint about my last stay is the hotel charged me for «self parking». I did not park in their garage nor did anyone ask me for car information. I was charged $ 23. I did inform the front desk and credit was issued. I do feel that since I got such an amazing rate and didn’t use the Wi-​Fi in the room they wanted to find something extra. I won’t dwell on this as I have dealt with New Haven Omni employees in the past and they have all been accommodating.
This hotel is rated a 4 star hotel on Priceline. I thought about this and will go along with the rating. The hotel itself is maybe 3.6 stars but the location makes it an even 4 stars.
As a New Haven person, I am going to share a few things about places close by. The hotel technically has two restaurants. The Cask Republic does have a walkway and might be an ideal place to go if it is pouring out. I would put the food in the good category. They have a great selection of beers. The hotel does have a restaurant on the top floor called Davenport’s. I think it is a little fancy but the views of New Haven are spectacular. I have found both restaurants to be a little pricey. Service at both places has been hit or miss, especially The Cask Republic.
Across the street is Prime 16 which is my favorite burger place in New Haven. I would go to them over The Cask Republic for food. One block up is my favorite drinking spot called Ordinary. Ordinary used to be Richter’s. Many return visitors to New Haven have told me they were for Richter’s. The staff at Ordinary did an amazing job restoring the place. You may want to do a web search for «Washington Stopped Here; So Did Brando» and read what The New York Times has to say about them. Not too far from Ordinary is «The Bar» which is known for their mashed potato pizza.
I would caution anyone reading this to be careful. New Haven has amazing restaurants but the later you stay out you will encounter younger, maybe more aggressive people. I call them amateurs as they do not know how to handle their alcohol. I like to go to The Russian Lady sometimes for a quick drink. It is also across the street from the hotel and their drinks are less expensive than the restaurants at the hotel. The Russian Lady opens at 4:00 pm and it is more of a night club than a restaurant. I may go in there once in a while after 6:00 pm but wouldn’t stay past 8:00 pm. I believe 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm the college kids come out.

Room is in need of some loving, wall paper is peeling, carpet seems a little dirty. walls are banged up.
I needed non down pillows and blanket they were brought up quickly and no issue.
Overall for a late night check in on my way to NYC from visiting family here in conn it’s totally worth the $. Just wish they would clean it up some it is a 4 star hotel after all.

OVERRATED! We recently stayed here since we were attending a local function and this hotel was one block away. We made our reservation through Expedia and included a couple of reasonable requests, like King sized bed and lower level. When we arrived, it was extremely busy but the valet allowed me to park in the front and check in. When I attempted to check in, I was told I couldn’t because my name wasn’t on the reservation, which has never happened before with any other hotel. The wifey usually makes the reservation and I, as the true gentleman, go inside and take care of all the leg work. After taking a BIG deep breath, I walked outside to get the misses. Even after trying to compose myself, I left my bags behind. Thankfully they didn’t call the bomb squad.
Once my wife presented herself, the check in was efficient, until her credit card didn’t work. I handed him my card, mind you it’s the same account number. He said I can’t use it because your name isn’t on the reservation. I think he saw my head getting ready to explode when he said, «I’ll make an exception this time». Needless to say, it took everything I had to hold my tounge.
At this point he says «We cannot honor your special request because you booked through a third party vendor.» What… WHaT…WHAT! I heard it with my own ears and couldn’t believe it. I’ve been making travel arrangements for over 15 years, using third party vendors like expedia and have NEVER had a problem with a simple special request. There was no apology or any effort on his part to make us happy.
With that being said, the queen room, which was on the 17^th floor was weirdly small. The entranceway had a lot of wasted space that could have been used to make the room more comfortable and spacious. The restroom was almost the size of the room, which didn’t need to be that big. So whoever designed the room, two thumbs down. Even though there was a thermostat in the room, my attempts to control the warm room were unsuccessful.
The only plus was the in and out option on the $ 20 parking, which is just under the hotel. So if you have no other choice, stay here. If you have options, feel free to explore them.
