La Quinta Inn & Suites New Haven

I would not stay here if you paid me. My cousin and his fiancé blocked rooms at this hotel and Courtyard for August 20^th, 2016. I had called to compare the rates and end up deciding La Quinta since it was cheaper. First of all whoever you have over there making reservations blocked under a certain name should be fired. I said August about 4 times and the lady kept saying I don’t see any thing under that name for February. Next I wanted 2 rooms for one night and was told I could not get the discounted rate because I wasn’t staying two nights and after I made my reservation I received a confirmation for 1 room and my name was spelled wrong. How do you mess up the name «Katie»? This lady spelled it Kadie. I called back another time to get my reservation fixed to 2 rooms and my name fixed and still did not receive a confirmation. Thanks alot La Quinta! I will now be staying at Courtyard!

So… three days and no turndown service even AFTER we complained and asked at the front desk… one star.

Extremely friendly staff the front desk manager was very friendly with accommodating request and he did it right away.
I would recommend this to anyone on a business or personal trip that needs a convent, clean and great hotel on the New Haven area

Do not, repeat, do NOT stay here. My husband and I have traveled for work and leisure for decades. This is by far the worst: room was poorly maintained and equipped. Unequipped is more accurate: no stopper for drain in bathroom sink, counter-​top dirty, floor dirty, hair dryer only worked on 1 speed, bath tub disgusting, no wash clothes, soap, shampoo, bath mat in bathroom, outside of hotel lined with cigarette butts, highway traffic noise 7×24, unresponsive staff. Attempts to reach manager to complain took from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and only reached manager because I refused to hang up to wait for call back. The entire site needs renovation. Smells musty, shoes stick to carpeting, plaster missing on walls, baseboards missing in hallways. Will write LaQuinta HQ to say it’s time to demolish hotel # 2048 in New Haven because it’s beyond saving.

Avoid. The gal working the front desk was nice, but other than that this place has issues. The guest in the next room had his TV on from around 3PM (when I checked in) until 5:30AM. I called the front desk to send someone up to tell this idiot to turn off his TV (as it was quite loud). He never opened his door nor accepted the call from the front desk. I was left having to listen to this crap all night long. The restaurant in front of the hotel charged an arm and a leg for sub par food. Better off going to Ikea next door and getting some hot dogs or pizza. The morning buffet breakfast was a joke.

This hotel more than likely gets business because they’re not far from the Yale campus and more affordable than those hotels within walking distance of the campus. There are better hotels out there but a rental car, ZipCar, or the like is required to travel back and forth to Yale.
The breakfast offered was horrible. Evidently, the hotel didn’t get the memo that this is family weekend. They ran out of food. The muffins were stale. The waffle machine was broken that you use to make your own waffles. The yogurt wasn’t on ice but just sitting in a tub like container. There was a sign about boiled eggs but there weren’t any boiled eggs.
This hotel needs a major overhaul – staff and the building. The building in and of itself looks like something from a 1970s Holiday Inn 40+ years later. There’s water spots on the ceiling in the room from another room. Some of the nonsmoking rooms have been smoked in. Lights are broken out in the elevator.
This is a good place for Undercover Boss to show up!

AVOID this hell hole at all costs.
If given the choice of sleeping in my car along side Rt. 95 with the windows down, or staying in this dump of a hotel, I’d sleep in my car. Gladly.
I drove with my fiancé and three kids for almost four hrs to arrive at this hotel at 2:10 PM. We had a surprise birthday party to attend in nearby Branford, CT. The party started at 3:30, so we need to all change, then head directly out.
Walking through the visibly dirty and smelly lobby and up to the front desk, the receptionist completely ignored me. I stood in front her as she did something (probably FaceBook) on her computer. Still not a word. I asked her if we could check in and, without looking up, said «check in is at 3:00.» I explained that we drove for four hrs and needed to quickly change for a b-​day party… again, never looking up, said «check in is at 3.» I insisted she ask someone if they could check for an available room. She left and came back, 15 mins later, with an equally rude person who gave us the same line. My question to her was this: checkout is at noon, check in is at 3, you mean the hotel has been empty for 2 hrs 10 mins, and there’s not one clean room? She said no, and instructed us to change in the lobby bathroom. At that point, some scrawny thug in a La Quinta uniform approached us, asking the receptionist «hey mama, is everything ok?» Really? This place is run by a street gang.
As if that wasn’t enough, a visibly homeless person was walking around the lobby, past hotel guests, saying «excuse my appearance.» He then took a plastic chair, placed it outside near the entrance, and sat there smoking cigarettes. I don’t know if the receptionist and crew knew him, or didn’t even notice him. I wouldn’t be surprised by either.
Needless to say, we went to the party, then drove the four hours home that night and left the «paid for» room empty.
NEVER AGAIN… and I’ll be writing La Quinta corporate, as well.

This used to be a good option for an inexpensive room in New Haven. That time, it seems, has passed. The property had fallen into pretty major disrepair: Art ripped out of the walls, shower curtain rods so collapsed that the curtain won’t stay closed, spotted carpets, clogged drains, etc. Amenities are basic at best.
In just one trip up and down in the elevator, I encountered: An intoxicated woman in a leopard print jumpsuit with sores encircling her mouth, who asked me if I was a cop. A shirtless man with an armload of groceries being wheeled into the lobby in a wheelchair. Oh, and a woman with a poodle in a bag. She was actually kind of lovely.
We booked two nights, but went elsewhere after just one night, because we couldn’t imagine bathing ourselves, let alone our children, in the bathroom. Suitable only for single men traveling alone, or anyone looking for an alternative to a halfway house or rehab facility.

Hotel room had a nice layout, separating the bed area from the living area. Bed was comfortable and had a good selection of TV channels.
The bathroom seemed to be under maintained with visible shortcuts performed on walls and deteriorating ceiling. The common passageways had an unpleasant odor.
The facility only had one pair of washer and dryer. Not good for a hotel mainly used by Yale visitors. Those who stay a few days and especially those who drove cross country will need to wash clothes. The laundry room was also FILTHY.
Still, not a bad value. Colocated with a very good restaurant, the Greek Olive. Also close to a gas station and a bank. Plenty of FREE parking.
Would recommend given the relatively low per-​night charge.

Giving this hotel 4 stars. We haven’t had breakfast yet, but we are happy campers.
First of all… we were on the road 15 hours straight with the intent to get past New York. We did that, but now we’re in CHA CHING Connecticut! Hello! Break out the cash!
We were looking for SOMEPLACE that the dogs could stay. Challenging in this neck of the woods!!!
Priceline gave us a «deal» at $ 110 a night for two. Queen bed with sleeper sofa.
Arrived at 10pm. Front desk guy, Chris (I think), SUPER NICE! Gave us room 605. Whoa! Queen bed. No sofa. Best part… DIRTY! Towels used, bed sat on, phone didn’t work, pillows jumbled, no toiletries, wreaked of stale smoke.
Called front desk. They fixed it!
Landed in room 308. Queen with sofa. Room divider, work area, micro and fridge, large bathroom area, room darkening curtains, cold AC.
Update: Breakfast! Hmmm… the attendant arrived at 7 and the place was already ransacked. Unfortunately. But we got a little something.
Other than a little pink pill and a pen cap on the floor… this room is spectacular for these weary travelers.
LaQuinta Inn… WOW! Impressed! And we usually stay in NICE places… Hilton, Embassy, Marriot, etc. but without dogs. With dogs… it is now LaQuinta!

Add me to the chorus of people not understanding why the star rating on this place is bordering on abysmal.
After attending a college friend’s wedding in Southeastern Connecticut, New Haven seemed to be a good stopping point for the beau and I to rest our heads, because driving back to NYC from Haddam, CT at 11 p.m. on a Friday night was not in my best interests. Located off of Exit 46 on I-​95, it’s pretty darn convenient.
We weren’t looking for frills or anything fancy. This hotel really was, as I said, just a place to sleep. The hotel itself is pretty bare bones, but I say that in a good way. It was very clean and orderly with a helpful front staff and an orderly room. We were, specifically, in Room 624, which was off of the main hallway; great for avoiding hallway noise! We were blessed with a coveted Partial Ocean View, read: our window overlooked a Mobil gas station, I-​95, and the harbor along Long Wharf. (Haha.) The room was pretty pristine. The bed was comfortable, the linens were soft and clean, the WiFi was free (and working!), the climate control worked well, and the nice flatscreen Samsung TV lulled us both off to sleep after a long day. The bathroom was perfectly clean, though my two complaint would be the lack of an exhaust fan (…steamy bathroom after a shower!) and the lack of complimentary body lotion. Nice to see a little Pantene 2 — in — 1 conditioning shampoo, however. MY hair looked so great the next day. Thanks, La Quinta! ;-)
This was a good pit stop on our drive back to NYC. For the location, good service, and price ($ 75 for a night!), I am more than content.

Decent place for the price! The rooms were clean and comfortable even though not the newest or fanciest but come on they’re not supposed to be the four seasons.
There is a free shuttle service to and from anyway in town including the airport. The gym is small but clean and nice. The staff were courteous. There is free parking, wifi, and continental breakfast what more can you ask from an economy hotel! I’ve stayed at five star hotels before and frankly this place is not bad and you don’t have annoying staff opening doors and offering to take my small bag which I can easily carry to my room and expect a tip for every useless service.

Absolutely horrendous. Our college sports team was forced to stay here, as hotels are chosen by the league, and we will be complaining to the league heavily. Just a few things about this hotel:
–There is not enough parking for the full hotel, so we parked far away between a semi-​truck and a dumpster.
–Our «non-​smoking» room smells very, very, strongly of smoke, and the hotel would not accomodate us or move us to another room.
–The elevators are ridiculously slow and fit about 3 people comfortably.
–The curtains are physically unable to cover the windows, so plan on waking up early with the sun.
–Small, uncomfortable beds with very old, cheap mattresses.
–Incredibly cramped bathroom; the toilet is practically touching the bathtub.
–There are visible dirt (?) stains on the carpet.
I will absolutely never allow myself, or any of my teammates, to stay here again. I was disappointed to learn that a zero-​star Unilocal rating wasn’t possible.

I stayed here for two nights and the hotel was just okay. The first night we stayed in a standard queen bed room. The room was small and the toilet and shower were filthy. The second night we were able to get a king suite for the same price. This room was a lot better looking but the noise and smell were unbearable. The room was on a non smoking floor but the room smelled badly of fresh cigarettes. The people upstairs were extremely noisy and you could hear them talking until around 2am and you could hear them walking all over the room. It made sleeping very difficult. Their breakfast was superb. They had the classic waffles they carry at la quinta hotels and many other great breakfast items. The breakfast room was big with plenty of tables. Their breakfast was the highlight of our stay. Parking was not so easy. It was free but late at night you have to park in the back of the hotel as nothing else was available. The guests staying at this hotel looked kind of shady so beware.

Smelly room that must have had 100 cigarettes smoked in the last visit.
Overall ambiance: low ceilings, dirty dark rugs, worn furniture in the room and our bathroom looked like a dive bar men’s room.
Only three lumpy pillows for out queen bed.
Front desk: IF someone was there, they were behind a half wall playing on their phone. As I checked in the clerk didn’t say hi, took a call, and didn’t ask one question. After getting in to our room that once doubled as a test room for Marlboro, I called down three times to the front desk with no one picking up any of the three attempts.
On our second day, we returned to our room and our key cards had been deactivated. I’ve never had this happen before.
I like la Quinta hotels but will avoid this one. It’s in need of HQ to do some QA or make a management change.

I have no idea what the deal is with the low reviews for this place. I was very nervous about booking 1 night here after reading all the negative comments, but was pleasantly surprised. Our room was $ 75 on expedia, and was clean, comfortable, and overall just fine. Nothing frilly or overly fancy, but I didn’t expect that given the price.
Also, the room came with free wifi, and continental breakfast in the morning, which was great. They allow dogs, which was a lifesaver for us, since we had our dog with us and needed somewhere to stay before getting the keys to our new place. I would definitely stay here again.

Older property. First room they gave me smelled of smoke. They promptly moved us to a second room. It was just ok. Room had fresh linens and was clean, but the was showing its age. Bathroom door was dirty, bathroom tub caulking cracked. Tons of noise from motorcycles racing up and down the street. Breakfast was adequate, cereal, muffins, juice. No eggs, sausage, or potatoes. Wasn’t worth the savings for staying at a lower priced hotel.

My boyfriend and I stayed at La Quinta New Haven for one night in January 2014 as we were seeing a show in New Haven on a Friday night, and doing some business at a car dealership in Branford on the following Saturday morning. This was perfectly located to do both these things and close to everything. Getting to the hotel off the highway is a little scary, though, because of several FAST moving lanes of traffic you have to QUICKLY cross from right to left to access the entrance that comes up almost IMMEDIATELY… it’s very awkward.
I’d call the hotel no frills décor wise, and has little in the way of ambience, but you cannot complain about the conveniences… it is right between a Bank of America and IKEA, there is a restaurant attached to the hotel, and there is a gas station near by. The front desk staff are super friendly, and made sure to tell us about all of the amenities (such as the free shuttle). Room was comfortable, appreciated the free WiFi and bed was decent, though I noticed a floor lamp was just standing in a corner unplugged with no outlet near by, and there were clumps of dust under the desk and around a waste basket that had been missed. However, for the convenience and price for a place to just crash for the night it seemed like a fair enough room. Would stay here again if in the area.

Stayed here for a night for business. My first room was filthy. The bathroom hadn’t been touched, except for some fresh towels. I requested another room, and there was some kind of big fat Greek wedding going on downstairs, which I could clearly hear in my room. (Better than hearing a big fat Greek honeymoon, I suppose) This room was barely cleaned as well. There were a few dirty washcloths on the closet shelf, and no hangers. I had to run though and figured this was the lesser of two evils.
In the morning, I discovered that there was no shampoo in the room. UGH.
I’d give an extra half a star, because I wrote the company and they paid for my room… but I spent the next few days waiting for bedbugs to jump out of my bag. (Luckily they didn’t) Anyway… thanks for the refund, but I won’t stay there again.
