Escape New Haven

This was certainly fun, but I think they need to regroup. Maybe shut down for a week and spruce things up. In general the rooms seemed more beat up than other similar ventures I’ve been to and one malfunction ruined the finale.
A bit more staffing high traffic shifts is also needed. Three large family groups and only one person to help?
Overall the big disappointment was that we solved a puzzle but, due to a malfunction the it didn’t open as it should have. We didn’t know if we made a mistake. We tried repeatedly. Obviously our staffer wasn’t watching us. I don’t blame him, that’s the companies fault being cheap and not booking a second person to help. When we finally were convinced we indeed had the proper combo, we radioed him we were told this jams all the time. They should really really fix that. Pretty disappointing and anticlimactic as the climax of the game.
I really blame whoever is making the money off this place and not reinvesting it on both staff and equipment.

We managed to book a four person spot for the workshop escape room. I’m not going to ruin it for anyone so I’ll stick to the before and afters mainly. We arrived, filled out the disclaimer, were given clearish instructions and then shown to the room we would be escaping from.
Having been to other escape rooms I feel it could have been a little more creative. Though it was still fun.
On escaping we were given a board to write our group name and time, which was posted on Facebook.
The place was well run the staff knew what they were doing and if definitely come back to see what the other rooms were like.

Oh how awesome this was!!! Upon arrival on a rainy Saturday was a friendly face aka our puppet master and mastermind, Adam.
I have been wanting to do an Escape scenario for a while now and I had a BLAST! 60 minutes to solve puzzles, unlock every impossible lock imaginable, try to figure out some twisted riddles, and avoid opening clues in envelopes at all costs! My room mate and her boyfriend were tempted and kept asking if we could open a clue envelope but I would rather have perished in the poisonous gas than take the easy way out.
Once we escaped at 54:28, Adam came to congratulate us and take our photo to celebrate.
I cannot wait to go back and Escape another room!
PS Drew– this is why you need to let me have Unilocal events in CT.

Awesome experience! If you’ve never been to an escape type place, you should definitely give it a try. Just bring trusted friends, come with a plan, or not, and, if you’re stuck, regroup!
Can’t compare it to other escape type places, but I’ve been in all 3 rooms at Escape New Haven, and they rocked! The assortment of puzzles is great, and very accessible– you really don’t need to be a geek, dork or engineer to solve them, so don’t be intimidated! Of the 3 rooms, the library and the studio (which is being changed into a different puzzle currently) are meant for bigger groups, while the workshop is meant for up to 4 people.
Some puzzles are not a surefire to work exactly how they were intended to, and at times it gets frustrating, as another reviewer mentioned. Even so, I still gave the place 5 stars for the overall great experience! Just keep trying until you get it!
And, lastly, you’re paying money to be entertained, you should leave there very happy. I can see how everyone wants to actually make it out of the room, but hey, sh*t happens. Really, just have fun! Someone set up all these cool little puzzles around a themed room for YOU– and they do a great job setting them up again and again, for each and every group; bring your best sherlock game and slay those clues!
NB: their new policy is to start the clock at the designated time, whether everyone is there or not. Make sure even the incompetent friend gets there with 10 minutes to spare (you have to sign waivers and there are instructions to be given), just to not add to the stress of it all.

I went with a group of coworkers and had a great time. Our group of 6 was perfect for the library. We didn’t make it through the room but the pace was great throughout, and I really liked the challenge.
The puzzles are of different difficulties and the clues came at a great time! I’ve never played an interactive game like this before– I loved the concept of being able to use anything around you as clues and pieces in the game. I can’t wait to come back and try the Studio!
Side note– if you were ever into the older PC escape-​type games (Myst, Riven, Uru, Amerzone, Azada series, or Miasmata, Machinarium for some more recent ones) you’ll love Escape NH

It’s a bit expensive, but a great way for a small group to do something different and fun. Basically, you get trapped in a room and given clues to get out. They have a lot of lock and keys, which is a little too repetitive, but the other clues are really fun. I like that everyone in the group can work together or even alone to achieve a goal.

We had so much fun! As only ~20% of teams escape, I didn’t think we had a chance, but while it did come down to the 10 second countdown we made it out just in time!
Honestly, the hardest part may have been finding the parking lot, but once we got in we found a welcoming host and some small games to keep us busy while we waited for everyone to get there. The only annoying part was redoing the waiver all over again even though we had completed it electronically.
Once in the room, everyone split up and starting looking for clues. It was so much fun tearing up the room and figuring out all the puzzles. We had tons of fun and even if we didn’t escape I’d be recommending Escape New Haven to my friends.
This is a really unique way to start your night, definitely a must try!

A few friends were visiting from out of town and wanted something fun and unique to do. We did the library scenario at Escape New Haven and made it out with seconds to spare. It was challenging, and the puzzle trail required us to bond quickly with new friends. The puzzle masters were helpful without being overbearing and clearly love what they do. Can’t wait to go back and try the other scenarios!

SO MUCH FUN!!! I’ve heard about places like this in NYC so I was so excited when I heard one was coming to New Haven. They opened a couple weeks before my birthday so I knew I had to get a group together to celebrate. Nine of us entered the Studio and we were the first team EVER to successfully complete it! It was such a blast! I won’t divulge the details as to not ruin it for others but it non-​stop problem solving and team work! All the clues were challenging yet not impossible, it really required you to think and put all your heads together. I can’t wait to go back and try another scenario.

Super fun. Our group had the studio and made it out with minutes to spare. The puzzles were diverse and challenging. Also loved the theme of the rooms.
I enjoyed this so much that I’m looking forward to trying the other rooms with smaller groups.
Highly recommended and certainly worth the price of admission.

Escape Room: Workshop
The workshop is a room that allows 4 individuals to work together to escape from the room.
I arrived with 3 of my friends and we were very excited to get started. The groups for all 3 rooms arrive at the same time and enter the room together. We were told that the workshop is the most difficult of the room because it required you to ‘think outside of the box” more than the other rooms.
We entered the room and immediately began to solve the various puzzles/​clues. There are a lot of locks that need to be opened in the room. The time went by very quickly but happily we were able to finish the challenge and escape from the room.
The escape allowed the 4 of us to work as team and we saw the individual strengths that each of us had. Each of us solved various puzzles and felt unbelievable rewarded for us contribution.

So much fun! We first tried the studio. We got outs, but only by breaking a lock off the wall. So that didn’t count :(We came back a few weeks later and tried the workshop. Having an idea of how the clues work helps a lot, and we made it out with 12 minutes to spare! A great way to spend an evening, I can’t wait for the new puzzle!

A really fun, exhilarating outing! Well-​organized and worth coming back to tackle new puzzles!

The puzzles in our scenario were either very tricky, well hidden, or easy. I guess it does help to have played virtual escape games, since they help you think outside the box. I loved seeing the setup of the rooms, which involved artwork from local artists! Too bad that previous groups wrecked some of the artwork, though.
I can’t wait to play the other scenarios in the coming months! I will be coming back here very often, I am certain of it. The owners are extremely nice and very intelligent to have put together all of the puzzles so well!

Well, we came, we saw, but we did not conquer. Most importantly though, we had a great time!
This Escape Room Game was certainly challenging and fun and keep us on our toes the whole time. The tour guides were clear about the rules, but definitely made us feel comfortable and reminded everyone that it was about having a good time.
The puzzles ranged from the easy to difficult, and even with 7 of us we still ran out of time in the Studio. Apparently only a sampling of people have been able to make it through in the allotted time.
If you and your friends like games and puzzle an like to be challenge to think, then this is a must do!

Great time doing The Workshop! We’ll be back (in greater numbers) for the rest of the scenarios. This is a great place to test your wits and have a good time.

Such a wonderful time. I went with 5 other people and we had an awesome time. We did the library room and the difficulty of the puzzles felt perfect for our group. We weren’t able to solve the whole mystery, but we still had a great time.
Ethan was super friendly and everything went exactly as he said it would.
I highly recommend this as a great way to have some fun with friends in a totally different way. I’ll definitely be back.
The price is a bit high but the student rate does make it a bit more affordable.

Amazing time. The challenge level felt just right for our group of three; we made it down to a single puzzle between us and escape before time ran out. Max was cool to talk to after and was interested in what we thought and what idea we might have for future puzzles. We’re really looking forward to going again and again to do all the different rooms and puzzles!

Great puzzles. Challenging but doable. The puzzles were diverse enough that everyone had something to contribute. The staff were very friendly and supportive. Definitely recommend for teams/​groups of friends. Did the 9 player challenge (escape the studio).

We did the workshop (4 person room) and had a great time, except that we didn’t succeed. A major reason for this was that a piece of electrical equipment in the room needed to solve a problem was not working properly, and we lost half our time in the room because of that. Assuming they can get the kinks worked out with the electronics, this would deserve 5 stars.
