Columbus Auto Body was founded in 1928 by Vincenzo DiLauro. Today, Columbus Auto Body, still standing on the original site, is owned and operated by the third and fourth generations of the DiLauro family

Columbus Auto Body Works is about more than just helping our customers when they have an accident. Aside from our award winning Dupont certified collision repair, we offer 24-hour towing services, brake jobs, glass and windshield replacement, air conditioning recharge, oil and filter change, and muffler and exhaust work.

Columbus Auto Body Works has been serving New Haven for 85 years. While our customers may have discovered Columbus Auto Body by accident, but what they have really discovered is a family-owned automotive mainstay that is committed to providing the highest level of customer satisfaction and top-notch quality automotive repair and care. Columbus Auto Body was founded in 1928 by Vincenzo DiLauro, an Italian immigrant who settled in the Columbus Avenue neighborhood of New Haven. Vincenzo combined his fine mechanic skills and the opportunities he saw with the booming automobile industry and started his very own auto-repair shop.

Tow driver hooked up to my car despite no «no parking» signs visible from location. Demanded payment before unhooking car, I paid without argument, but asked where the no parking sign is. He pointed to a sign over half a block away, and after I asked if he thought it was reasonable that I should be able to see a sign that far away, he cursed at me and started to drive away, stopping several times to curse some more. Typical rip off towing company, making money the dishonest way.

Me and my husband were out of town and our car got towed for street sweeping.
We came back 2 days later to get and got the worst customer service in my whole entire adult life, the guy from this towing company was so rude and vulgar with the worst attitude I have ever seen, that I drove my car out of the lot tearing !!!
It make m so upset just recalling that encounter.
First We called him in the morning and he said you can come anytime before 5 pm, I came at 2 pm no one was in the office and when I called him he yelled at me saying that I am 2 hours late, that this was entirely my fault !
He told me to com back at 4 pm ‚
I came back at 4 pm and met him in person he was even more rude than the phone There are truly no words to describe how I bad and little i felt!
I don’t wish this on anyone !

Vin was friendly and clearly takes pride in his work. It’s a local shop that’s been around for 85 years in his family, and everyone at the shop was courteous and professional. Vin drove me home (downtown) after I dropped off my car, and when I picked my car up, of course I was very happy with the job they did to get my car looking nice again.
I hope not to have need for their service again soon, but if I do I’ll definitely be returning to Columbus.

Amazing service! Vinny is a great guy and really goes above and beyond.
My bf, due to his work hours, had a difficult time trying to get his car in to be looked at. I called around a couple auto shop places and Columbus was the only one open on Saturdays. We weren’t going to make it before he closed, but Vinny told us he would wait for us. How amazing is that? We dropped the car off, then Vinny drove us to Enterprise in his car so we could pick up a rental car. They also made the process of picking up your car simple. Columbus was closed when my bf went to pick up the car, but they were able to leave the keys next door at Columbus Towing. He was able to drop off the rental car there as well.
Vinny also left a new Columbus Auto Body Works mug for us in the cup holder. What a nice surprise.
I hear it’s hard to find a good, honest mechanic, but I think we found one in Vinny. Vinny told us about the history of the family business, which his grandpa opened in the 20s. Definitely ask about that, it’s fun to hear. Columbus has been around for a long time and it’s easy to see why. I can’t say it enough, they are amazing! I’m so impressed with them.

Columbus quoted me a price that was about 60% above another shop but I ultimately went with Columbus due to the slightly sketchy vibe I got from their competitor. In the end Columbus delivered good service, a quick turn-around time and ended up charging me a final price that was only about 30% above the rate charged by the cheaper alternative. All told, I’m a fan.
