Salon Kiklo

Salon Kiklo is by far the best place I’ve been for highlights or style. I’ve been going for 3 years and have never been any thing but entirely thrilled. George, owner and colorist extraordinaire listens to what you want and gives expert suggestions. My hair is hard to color, changes with our well water, yet he always knows what to do.
And, don’t let the New Canaan address fool you. Salon Kiklo’s a fun, casual, funky salon, great people, very low key… no stuffiness here! And, believe it or not, the prices are more reasonable than any in the area.
Plus, the complimentary cappuccino and biscotti are awesome!!!

If I could give zero stars I would.
I got hair extensions a few days ago, and was in town for a very special event, so I needed a blow out. I made an appointment in advance with someone who had experience working with hair extensions, and when I got there I asked her to be careful of the extensions. The girl who did my hair was really sweet but was tugging at the extensions so hard that the entire time I was getting my hair done I was literally wincing in pain. I told her it really hurt and she seemed confused as to why. I told her that they were being tugged on really hard (they’re attached to my freaking HEAD). Then she said maybe it was the way the extensions were put in — but then continued to tug violently at my hair while blow drying it. I have only had my extensions in for a total of 6 days… they are supposed to last 6 – 8 weeks and a few are now FALLING OUT where she was tugging the hardest. My head still hurts in those areas too… I am just praying that it doesn’t do permanent damage to my real hair/​follicles since I am getting married in a few months.
I have never had such a painful experience at a hair salon and all I did was go in for a blow out. I think my head is almost bruised. I have to go get my extensions fixed, which were several hundred dollars.
The one good thing I will say is that the front desk tried to rush the stylist to finish me up (something that has happened there multiple times between me and my sister…) and the stylist refused because she knew it was a very special evening for me and didn’t want to rush my style. The style did look beautiful — but again — my extensions are falling out and my head is so tender to the touch I am worried that my hair has been damaged.

Went for the first time yesterday, although I’ve past by it several times and was always intrigued by the décor. This salon has a very modern yet somewhat rustic look with all the wood finishes contrasted with the brick and natural references to trees and plants.
I was very impressed by the service– they offered me water and cappuccino as soon as I walked in and gave me helpful suggestions for restaurants when I asked.
I went in for a cut and my stylist, Ron, was so nice and helpful! His attention to detail was amazing and I felt like I was truly being taken care of. As I observed the salon, I thought the same of the other stylists too. I ended up walking out of there feeling like a million bucks. Thanks Ron and everyone at Salon Kiklo!

George is this salons winning glory. He’s confident, skilled and talented. I had a great experience with him and will continue to go back!

Jeanine cuts my hair and George is my colorist. I always leave feeling 100% more stylish than when I walked in. I have had Ron as an assistant several times and holy cow my shampoo was like a bonus spa experience! The last couple of times I went I had a new assistant named Denise who is just as amazing. I came in with a throbbing headache and a shampoo and condition with Denise worked wonders.
At my last color appointment George tried a new technique from a recent class he had taken and I absolutely loved it. Jeanine has an artist’s eye and just seems to know how to give my fine straight hair the «oomph» I want and she also takes my lifestyle into consideration. Both George and Jeanine always seem to be current on trends, products and technique. No soccer Mom bowl cuts here! I also came in with some dried, fried not fab strands and did a «power dose» conditioning treatment that worked wonders.
Mallory cuts my 5 year old daughter’s hair. She even showed me how to trim her bangs so I don’t have to take her for constant trims.
The salon introduced me to a new line of products by Kevin Murphy. I am an admitted product junkie but I have to say I am loving the dry shampoo, volumizing powder (applied as «just a sprinkle» which George took the time to demo on me) and the thickening cream. When my current shampoo and conditioner supply is done the KM line is next on my list.

I love the downtown New Canaan location, especially when the weather is nice. The municipal parking lot located across the street is a bit of a pain if you are having a cut and color but if you tell Stacey at the front desk that you are parked in that lot she will have one of the assistants «feed» the meter.
Also, I always feel comfortable here whether I am in sneakers and leggings or dressed with makeup and just waiting for the hair to go with it :). I also like that the salon supports Kids Helping Kids.

Tried this salon for a year. Staff not terribly friendly and many seem right out of the owner’s beauty school. Thea did foils for me and has a great technique and color choices but forces you into a highlight/​lowlight/​highlight/​lowlight pattern. During the summer I knew I was due for a lowlight and asked her to keep the bright sunny color but was lowlighted anyway. When I complained her answer was to simply strip the color out leaving me with brassy roots that looked terrible. She is often overbooked and once left me sitting at the hair wash station for over 20 minutes then kept blaming her assistants. I tried a few stylists over the year there and was given dirty looks by the old stylist when trying a new one. Blowouts were amateurish. The last straw was when I brought in a picture of a cool shaggy, long layered cut and they left me with a collarbone length blunt cut. There was no miscommunication, I had a picture! Parking is a nightmare as they are metered spots only good for 2 hours, if you need a full head of foils, cut then blowout you’ll need to feed the meter at some point.

I visited Salon Kiklo about a week ago for a last minute haircut. I was in town visiting and had stopped in to see if they happened to have any last minute appointments — my hair was getting shaggy and I was interviewing. I had luck on my side because they had a slot!
I had my hair cut by George. After sitting in the chair for a few minutes, having him assess my style and ask me about what I was looking for, I was then taken to have my hair washed by Ron. The hair washing was unbelievable! I always feel like its an experience in itself and he did nothing short of making sure my experience was exceptional and was very attentive. There’s nothing like a little head rub when you’re being washed!
George knew exactly what I was looking for based on our earlier discussion. He had taken into consideration the things I wanted, like keeping the length yet cleaning up and reshaping my hair. I have long, fine hair and it definitely hadn’t been tended to correctly in a long time. The cut was great, even better, now when I style it by curling it looks fantastic! If ever back in the area, I’ll be back!
