My family and I come here once or twice a month. About 10 of us. Came here recently to celebrate my friends birthday. Had a table of 15 people. Sushi was good. Service was good. We told our server it was my friends birthday. They came out to sing. They even brought out some fruit which was nice. HOWEVER, at most restaurants they will sing and bring out a free dessert for the person’s birthday. When I go my bill, they charged me a birthday charge of $ 7.00! What a scam. We will not come here no more. We will stick with Kansai in Clarksville. I asked the server, and he just said«I thought you wanted the birthday?». I just paid it. What a joke. Tomo must be hurting for money. Kansai is better anyway. I will boycott this place.

Came here to grab some shushi. I feel if I would have gone to a Chinese buffet then I could have gotten better sushi. The employees were horrible and I spent 15 minutes there before my wife and I even got out drinks. Then it was another while before we got to order. Horrible.

The Philadelphia Roll is one of few I can eat, being allergic to shellfish. I love it though! Also love the ginger dressing!

We ate at one million places in the local area for my mother’s birthday. Tomo’s prices are in line with other hibachi restaurants and their menu is not dissimilar. They do have lunch offerings but I wouldn’t eat there if you had anything else to do at any point in your day. We waited for twenty minutes(I had Star Wars tickets, I was watching the clock) before our drinks arrived after ordering them. When we inquired about the wait time for hibachi before coming over they said that it wouldn’t a problem at lunch time and we would eat in a timely manner. The lesson learned is that phrases like«timely manner» are subjective. I really didn’t like the service at Tomo and the food was exactly the same as any other hibachi place in Kentucky or Southern Indiana. I wouldn’t make a special trip to go here.

Maybe worst meal I have had in last year. Slop on a plate. For the prices charged, I expected decent food. I received a mess on a plate. Panda express is better. Noodles and co. Is better. I feel sorry for people who think this is good food. Wow. Just don’t have words to describe how bad it was.

Tomo is a restaurant that I go to about twice a year, its certainly not in my regular rotation, however, I do wish it was. I think there’s plenty of great things about this eatery that keeps the regulars coming back and is an excellent choice for myself when I crave something full of quality, but also familiar. They have several hibachi grills and plenty of tables and booths if you prefer a peaceful meal. I am in the latter party, so I’ve never experienced the hibachi service. Typically, one is served by several people, an order taker, someone who keeps the drinks filled, someone who brings out your meal and pays out your ticket. It works really well, our cups never run dry and our service is prompt and courteous. While visiting today I found the manager greeting regulars and conversing with them, she definitely exhibited the spirit of the name of this eatery(Tomo means«friend» in Japanese). They have an extensive sushi selection. They actually come up with new sushi rolls regularly and has several rolls on sale on Mondays. You can find out which rolls and drinks are on sale on their website, as they do change. I did see that they recently added a baby octopus salad and sea urchin, sold at market price. This place keeps several staples and rotates specialties regularly, which is both comforting and refreshing. Logan loves their sushi, he usually gets the spicy tuna rolls. One order comes with eight medium sized rolls for 6.95. On this visit he also ordered teriyaki chicken with fried rice and he thought that it hit the spot, was highly satisfied and felt that it is well worth the price of 14.95. Every visit I get their amazing teriyaki New York strip steak with fried rice for 17.95. All entrees come with a savory miso broth and a delicious iceberg salad with house made ginger dressing. The ginger dressing is the absolute best dressing I’ve ever had, and I’m very picky about my dressings. Its like a runny, gingery, thousand island, I’d buy it in bottles if I could! The steak is cooked perfectly every time and is so tender that it practically melts in my mouth. The fried rice is moist, full of egg, veggies and doused in soy sauce. Its perfect. My meal also comes with hibachi grilled veggies, zucchini, carrots, onions and broccoli and garnished with traditional orange slices. The portions are terrific and I always have enough to bring home. I almost never eat my leftovers from other places, but I actually couldn’t wait to come back home after a day out to finish this delicious meal! I think the interior is just a tad outdated but contemporary and clean. I love that they play classical music while I eat, it makes the ambiance very relaxing. They have a nice bar area and the sushi bar is quite beautiful, if not a bit simple. Overall, I think people give this place a very hard time, and I’ve never figured out why. I eat out several times a week, often places more expensive than here and I enjoy it thoroughly. I think the service is polite, efficient but impersonal, but I didn’t come here to talk to my server and I appreciate that they can back off and allow me to eat in peace. It really is a nice place in New Albany and I suggest it if you’re in town and craving traditional Japanese dishes. Tomo is my tomo.

I’m by no means a sushi expert. I decided to order carry out from Tomo for the first time. I usually go to Star in Jeffersonville but this was closer to home and I had a craving. Anyways… I ordered a house salad, shrimp tempura roll and Bali roll. The house salad and Bali roll were nice. I was super grossed out by the shrimp tempura roll. The shrimp itself is as not freshly fried — tasted old. But the worst part was I got mostly crunchy tails rather than the meat of the shrimp. Like I said… I’m not an expert but that didn’t seem normal or tasty.

Impressed overall with our meal. We got the boat for two to get a good variety of what they had available. We were pretty hungry and there was no possibility of finishing our meal. The squid salad that came with was also very tasty. Service was good without being overbearing. Prices were reasonable. I would return!

The food at Tomo is great. There’s no doubt. I had gone many times before. When I started transitioning, however, out of virtually every business in New Albany/Sellersburg, the host of this one place treats me very badly. This is what I look like: And this is how I was treated, approximately 2 – 3 months ago. I arrived and was seated with about 8 – 10 other folks. Table was full. The chef starts his show and the host arrives and starts LOUDLY calling me SIR over and over again Everyone at the table is quiet and embarrassed. The chef stops his show. Nobody can look at anyone anymore. All for the cheap thrill of the very immature, rude host. I will NEVER go back. PS this is in response to Mike Pence’s new law. THIS place WILL discriminate. I already know.

Spawn A loves sushi. I, personally, hate it. I keep telling him that ordering sushi while more than 500 miles from any coast is tempting fate. He doesn’t listen. So, when he declared that he wanted sushi, we stopped at Tomo. There was one table occupied when we arrived. We were seated and drinks were delivered. While Spawn A ticked off one chunk of bait after another on the little scorecard, I settled in to decide which chunk of cow to have diced and drowned in soy sauce. The service was of the hurry up and wait variety. When the waitress did show up, she was in a hurry. Then, it took ages to get her to come back. Spawn A was not exactly over the moon about the sushi but he found it satisfactory. I found the steak to be gristly and over-done.

Food is great but the lady could not have rushed me any more. The second I made one pencil mark she was snatching my paper away. I wasn’t even finished. She stalked me and made me feel uncomfortable until finally I ordered some cold rolls to take home to eat in peace. Not sure whether the quality will win out over the terrible atmosphere today. Maybe you will have better luck.

My wife and I ate lunch here on the 4th of July. We had miso soup, the Maui roll and an Ichiban roll and everything was excellent. The atmosphere was a little lacking, or I might have given it 5 stars. We’d recently eaten at Dragon King’s Daughter and found the food quality at Tomo to be comparable(I thought it was better)

I’ve been on a sushi kick lately, so this is the 4th place I’ve been in about 2 weeks. There’s a lot of back-to-back comparison going on in my head which likely influenced this review. First off, I had two GREAT rolls. The Snow Roll and the Alaska roll were excellent with the Snow Roll being my favorite. I’m pretty sure I could have kept eating that till they had to ask me to leave. But we didn’t have to cross that confrontational bridge because my stomach was also filled with a California roll(not bad, but kind of my apples-to-apples comparo-roll) and the fried Yum-Yum roll which tasted like everything fried does, so I wasn’t too impressed since it didn’t hold the hints of flavor the way some other area places have. The service was quick, friendly and helpful in answering all questions we had about the different offerings. If you have kids, the hibachis looked like they provided quite a bit of entertainment for the little ones. I heard quite a few squeals of delight from the other side of the room. I didn’t have to see it though, because the areas are compartmentalized, lending the room a more intimate feel. Unfortunately, the chairs were a little more«cheap Chinese buffet» than«nice Japanese steakhouse» in look and feel. Overall, not bad! The price was pretty good, value was pretty good and the service was great. If I’d not gone to so many lately, Tomo probably would have gotten another star.

Really good food, super friendly staff, and an overall qreat place. Also if you have small children, know that the owner and chefs go out of their way to make it a fun experience for them.

This is our Monday night sushi spot. They offer great sushi and nigiri specials. The service is always prompt and friendly. My boyfriend and I usually spend $ 20 – 25 and have ourselves a feast. It’s good sushi for a great price and a chill spot for MNF.

I have been here twice. The first time was over a year ago and the food was good. My wife and I went a couple of weeks ago. The restaurant was not real clean and you could look into the kitchen, which was not pleasant. The food was ok, but would have expected better at the price we paid. My kids like this place, but my wife and I were not impressed.
