Royal Pampering Day Spa

I typically do not write reviews, but when I was looking for a spa in the Southern Indiana area, I used Unilocal to make my selection and really would have appreciated a review of this place.
I live in Chicago and go to an aesthetician regularly. I also have had my fair share of pedicures. I received both of these services at Royal Pampering a few months back when I was in town for my sister’s bachelorette weekend and decided to take her for a little pampering — we both agreed that these were the worst facial and pedicure treatments we had ever experienced.
First off, the room they put us in for the entirety of the treatment had bright fluorescent lights that could not be dimmed or turned off. We spent the entire time staring up at bright lights. Highly recommend they fix that ASAP.
The facial consisted of the one person they had available to treat us going back and forth quickly wiping off our makeup, placing soothing pads on our eyes for a few minutes, and then hastily brushing three strokes of what my sister swears was chocolate out of a jar — I could see my sister’s face and there was basically nothing on it. After cleaning the «chocolate» off she finished with some Vitamin C serum. My sister asked what it did and the woman explained «oh, it’s good. It’s good for you» …not exactly the thorough explanation she were hoping for. Did I mention that the woman treating us wore latex gloves the whole time? I’ve never seen that at any spa I’ve been to.
So the facial wasn’t up to par, but not horrific — the pedi however was. I paid for a $ 40 pedi and basically received a terrible polish change.
There are no pedicure chairs here so we were told to remain laying flat on the facial/​massage table. We were told to pick out a color but all that was available were glitter polishes (obviously for little girls) and 2 old Maybelline colors that looked like they had been sitting in my mom’s bathroom drawer since the 90’s. My sister and I each took one of the old colors because what choice did we have. She removed our nail polish, took a look at our nails with nail trimmers in hand and said «eh, your good» and moved on to painting our nails. No trimming, no buffing, no filing — nothing. It was laughably bad.
To top it all off, she informed us that they were all out of disposable flip flops so I had to walk out of the «spa» in my bare feet.
The people here were so very nice but obviously have no idea what a spa experience is supposed to be like. I highly recommend that not repeat my mistake and you drive the extra couple of miles across the river to Louisville.

I used a groupon for the royal package that includes a mini-​facial, salt body rub and massage. I was pleasantly surprised that I got in on the same day that I called. It was just ok. I was offered a water (great value brand), but I felt like the session was 90% salt scrub. I needed more massage, less scrub. The package includes royal chocolates – indicating more than one – but I got one ghiradelli square in a Ziploc baggie. Overall, I wasn’t impressed and although they have me some really nice coupons on my way out, I’m not planning on going back.
