Primos Deli

Great spot! I work down the street and regularly pick up lunch from this spot. The food is fresh and the homemade soups are fantastic!

Nice little café’ with good food. Daily specials add to standard deli menu offerings. As with any downtown location, parking is the issue. Street parking, albeit free, can be hard to find when you’re in a hurry. Small seating area is a bit cramped and door to outside opens directly into dining area making dining a cold experience for those tables beside the door, although the area was nice and warm when I was there. Service was fast and efficient. Pricing was good. So glad this option exists in emerging New Albany. Would love to see them in a bigger space with better parking. Great lunch experience and worth a return trip.

Very good food. I rate cafés by little things like their cole slaw. Let’s say their coke slaw is so good, crispy, fresh, and creamy. I had their roast need special– spicy but delish. We also had their Cajun chicken salad, chicken noodle soup, and salad. My mom and I came with my kiddos. Their wait staff was friendly and accommodating. Plus the café is a remodeled shop in the historic downtown, which gives it a feel of grandma’s house. Clean throughout, tasty food, great service. You can’t ask for a better lunch/​brunch venue.

Finally made it to Primo’s Deli. I’ve been waiting patiently for it to open. I was told it has been open for about two weeks. It’s nice having a deli on this side of the River, that isn’t Subway, Jimmy Johns or something like that.
I had the roast beef with provolone and a bowl of Potato Bacon soup. The soup was more traditional than what is normally found at places now. It was velvety with nice chunks of potato and bacon. I added a little salt and pepper, which I felt it needed, but liked it a lot with those two additions. The tables are supplied with salt and pepper you can crack yourself, so that was nice alternative to average table salt and pepper.
My wife had the turkey on wheat berry bread with provolone. She also had a Honey Dijon mustard, that looked like it might have been whole grain. It looked really good, made me wish I had some. They have a good variety of sauces and condiments that seem to be of high quality, as everything else seemed to be.
Along with the usual selections of Deli meats, they make things like egg salad, chicken salad, tuna salad, chili, etc., etc. I did hear the chef (may also be the owner, not sure) said he makes chicken breast every morning to make the chicken salad. That gives me the assumption that a lot of the stuff, is made fresh daily, but I’m not positive.
They have a selection of homemade desserts and candies as well. We split the peanut butter fudge. It was creamy and smooth with a great flavor and not dry and gritty like some I have ran across.
The guy waiting on us was extremely friendly (which we appreciate a lot) was helpful with answering questions, and giving his personal opinions what is favorites were. The other workers seemed to be friendly as well.
When we first got there, we were there just before the lunch crowd, so I was a little concerned by the lack of customers. However, before we left the place was full. So I was happy for them.
We’ll definitely be back, we got our eyes on the chicken salad, then who knows what. :-)
