The Alexander Gallery

I thought that this was a great art gallery. Patty is wonderful as Dianne with her beautiful wire art.
However, the manager is questionable in her business practices. As a new resident who is an artist and graduate student and contributor to this community, I felt unimportant as the manager brushed me off as other patrons came in. I had just purchased and invested in expensive art pieces.
I am offended by her lack of respect and am still waiting for a call back after leaving a voicemail for her at the gallery several days ago.
I had asked to speak with the artist directly but I presume that the manager does not wish that type of communication.
I have the choice to purchase art and showcase my own pieces for charity at other galleries.

This is the best gallery I have visited in quite a while and, believe me, I do my share of art crawls (PS: it is now called The Alexander Gallery). The breadth and depth of the art and jewelry is astounding and the vibe of the the place invites you to linger. I went around and around the space (literally) last Saturday, knowing I was going to buy something but trying hard to narrow my choices. Finally settled on a wonderful Jacqueline Hurlbert acrylic. The owner, Francesca, couldn’t have been nicer. She packed it up carefully while we had lunch at Bistro 221 next door (another find!). I will definitely come back time and again to see what’s new.

If I could give it negative stars, I would! The owner is the rudest person I have ever talked to in my life. I would never support her business and I would never recommend her place to anyone.

Now the gallery is called Alexander Gallery and no longer one I will visit. Had the most horrifying retail experience of my life there the other day, no exaggeration. A girlfriend and I did the Nevada City Art Walk last Friday, as I’ve often done. I fell in love with a trio of photographs, negotiated a price lower than marked and asked them to wrap them and hold them as I was just beginning a move and didn’t want them ruined. The salesgirl neglected to give me a copy of my sale slip. On the following Tuesday, I got a call from the owner (who is the one who inevitably agreed to the offered price) and she told me that they could not honor the agreed upon price as (1) the framers are no longer doing the framing; (2) the gal who sold them to me was new and had no right to lower the price (again, she, the owner, was the final ok on the price); (3) it was such a busy night; (4) I «lowballed» the price; (5) I didn’t pick them up the same night; and (6) the gallery is in trouble and can go months without selling anything. I thought it was no coincidence that the gallery might be going out of business if they didn’t have the integrity to adhere to an agreed price. Long story short, I wouldn’t accept any of her rationale and she ended up telling me that the only way she would honor the price was if I came and picked them up that day even though she was told I was in the middle of a move and had numerous things going on and people coming and going, very, very stressful. Nevertheless, I put things on hold and went to get the cash, since that is what I offered and why she accepted in the first place. Once I arrived, she was the most unpleasant she could possibly be without going into detail she was incredibly insulting, untruthful and unprofessional. I did end up getting my photographs (which were not wrapped as promised, had to wait an additional 15 minutes whilst all my workers waited) at the agreed upon price but at what price??? Even though I used to love this gallery and have purchased many pieces there, enjoyed it as a place to bring visiting friends and relatives, it will no longer be on my list of To Go Places, what a nightmare!!! Be sure to get a copy of your sales slip if you do decide to go, the artists there are incredible and wonderful, just not the owner!!!

We walked by here while down on Broad Street. There are some pretty amazing pieces of art here in the gallery. I loved the photography, wire sculptures and other works here. Definitely worth a look if you’re in the area.

We LOVE this place. They have a large selection of varied items — photographs, paintings and prints, artisan furniture, several one-​of-​a-​kind jewelry lines, wire art, a beautiful collection of very simple, beautifully made small leather goods, ceramics, pottery, statuary, art glass, and turned stone. I never fail to find items I love. This is where I go for hostess gifts when we travel, and I have a few pieces I’ve bought for ourselves.
A large percentage of the items they sell are locally made. The owners — one bought the other out a few years ago, so now there’s only one — do some of the photography and statuary.
They have a layaway program if you don’t want to run up your charge card and can’t just write a check.
The prices are reasonable.
Mowen Solinsky Gallery is a real asset to the community, a place where I bring visitors who usually find things to love, as I do.

Large number of pieces on display ranging from jewelry to furniture to wall art. Of course it’s all subjective, but the hubby and I liked several artists that were on display including Robert Erickson rocking chairs and Kenneth Standhardt ginger jars. There were some nice items under $ 100.

This is a wonderful gallery in Nevada City. The art is beautifully displayed and very reasonably priced. We brought home a beautiful perfume bottle by Joshua Rodine. This is worth a trip if you are in the area.
