Verbally assaulted here on 4÷23÷16. Came in to sell some items, young lady told me to drop them off and I started looking around to see what they had. Only a minute later being yelled at across the store«This stuff is horrible, take it yeah take it away» I didn’t even know she was yelling at me, but looked over and she demanded me to come over. «I don’t want any of this, go» she said and shoed me away. I stood there in shock as the other people in the store also looked in disbelief. This is not how anyone should be treated! Especially in Nevada City!!!

Wow looks like this place needs some training. Hey, totally get the local mom and pop shop that doesn’t invest in training or hiring high quality people but this is on another level. Came in here and observed some sketchy things. Hipster girl with oversized glasses incredibly unprofessional to an older woman in front of me. Ok, having a bad day? I came back to sell some high end clothes(I hate to name drop but including a Gucci purse sitting in the closet). I came back and said girl said she’s give me $ 30 total including 12 for the purse that was genuine. I sad no thanks and took my stuff to only be yelled at in front of customers for taking it. Excuse me? Shocking behavior I haven’t ever seen. Never shopping at this spot, I’d rather support a chain store with better behavior

Stopped by last week for the first time but it won’t be my last! They have some great prices if you take your time and look through the selections. Got an amazing jacket for $ 14 and a super cute skirt for $ 9. This store is simply sheer fun – just to see all the clothes, especially the costumes! Everything looked to be in very good condition. The employees were friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to return!

The customer service here is pretty bad, the selection lately has been OK but pretty overpriced. I have had overall very bad encounters with the employees who seem pretty busy socializing instead of helping customers. I even was treated very rudely after interrupting some gossiping between staff even after waiting a few minutes to hope for a break in the conversation! I wont go out of my way to stop here anymore.

I went in on Friday to have Solstice tell me how much they would give me for five items New Navy girl costume, bought brand new for $ 60, she sold for 30 New Navy girl shoes School girl outfit Skeleton jumper Vampire kid’s cape, she sold for $ 7 Laura the owner was out to lunch and three employees said that I could leave the items and they will estimate what they would give me and I could return to pick up. I asked them to call me when she decided on the price and then I would go from there. I never heard back from them so I called on Saturday and spoke with Laura, she told me the amount she would give me and I said that was low and she said well then you need to come pick up your things and I said I’m in Reno but will do so. She said well I already priced everything and put it on the floor; I will try to get things together for you. Sunday morning I called on my way back from Reno and said I’m coming in and she said ok I’ll try to get things together but I think I sold two items already, but not sure. I said ok I’ll help look for things at the store. I got there and she said yes I think I sold the navy outfit, I can give you 18(and some change) in store credit or 10(and some change) in cash. I looked around to find something but I couldn’t find anything, I tried looking for her to tell her that I either want 30 because that is what she sold the navy outfit for or my outfit back but I know that that wasn’t going to happen because it’s sold even though I never told her to sell my stuff. I told a guy there that I couldn’t find her and that I was not happy with what happened . She called me about 2 min after I left and she said my worker told me what you said and well it was your responsibility not to leave stuff here and that is the rule. I said that is not what I was told and she said that she records all things in the store and I said well listen to it because you will know that that is not what happened. They told me they would call me. She said why you leave for Reno if you knew you had stuff here. I said that is not the point. She kept arguing with me about that and then she says well I’m not sure if the camera was recording… wtf. She said well if you want to go to court for your $ 30 then go for it. Very unprofessional !

I came into the store for Halloween accessories and loved the feel of the place. It was bustling with activity, but the kind staff took time to help me find what I needed. I found all sorts of things for my kid’s costume and most of the prices were reasonable. There was a hat without a tag on it that the person helping me asked her boss how much it was and she overcharged me by quite a bit I feel(it was really cheap quality from China.) I’m sure that she didn’t look at how much it cost them before she priced it. Oh well, I needed it so I bought it anyway. It’s good to support a local business.

I am a local in the area and I shop at this store often and have never found the customer service lacking. However I’m not one of those people that like to be stalked by employees while I shop either. If I need help, I ask for it, and I get it. I love this shop! The owner is and employees are wonderful!

This is a great store. Nevada City is notoriously an expensive place to shop in, but this store is a breath of fresh air. I can’t go in there without buying something EVERY time. Very nice and personable staff. Never have had a problem. I love this place!

I wander a lot thru Nevada City and one day I happened upon Solstice. The funny and funky window dressings caught my eyes and thought, «I just gotta’ see what THIS store is all about«.I just had to go in. I do most of my shopping at thrift stores and this is the next best thing. Love the place whether I am buying or just schmoozing. BTW, I had a friend, ‘Garlic’(RIP) whom I used to beg to tell me where he got his crazy hats, scarves, and every other crazy outfit he wore but he would never tell me. It was Solstice! I guess he wanted to keep it his secret. Great prices. Great and fun store.

I actually had the opportunity to visit the store again and I saw huge improvements. Two ladies behind the counter and both were very pleasant and beyond helpful. There was no one else in the store but it was early. Merchandise is always great but customer service makes the big difference for me. I will be back and back again.

My love for thrift stores is confirmed here. I found a sweet skirt for $ 7. The merch was nice and priced right for a thrift shop. I would end up spending loads here.

… to be fair. I just took a friend in. She thought the selection was good and bought a couple of things. She commented on how unfriendly the staff was, saying she felt ignored until I said something to them.(She was standing right in front of two of them waiting for help!)

This little shop is great! Sure their customer service could be much better… it is still a unique little place. I find beautiful, one of a kinds in this shop of variety. It really shows the vast amount of different kinds of people that reside in this area. It is my favorite place even compared to some shops in san fran.

I got a great knockoff pair of D&G sunglasses here for $ 10… Cool store to shop for costuming/burning man apparel. It’s also a recycled clothing store. Very fun and worth checking out!

Such a Fun Store and a great addition to that empty space. The Mother Daughter Team are a pleasure to deal with. They have sold many of my garments and collectables. I have noticed unreasonable customers making silly demands on the stuff they bring sell. Always found something special at Solstice. Wish they were open more days.

Solstice is a godsend for the women and men of Nevada County. Finally, a hip and well-stocked place to buy, sell, and trade clothes, shoes, accessories, and housewares and costumes. The items for sale are abundant, beautiful and unique, and reasonably priced(vintage and modern). And the space itself is nice, clean, spacious, and welcoming. I am in there a lot, and always recommend it to people.(If you are coming to visit from out of town, go there!). But there is one huge drawback. The service. It confounds me that small business owners would approach customer relations the way these women do. Today something happened that finally convinced me to write the review I’ve been planning for a while. My sister went in and traded some clothes. Later she realized that she had accidentally placed one of her favorite items of clothing in the box and that they had taken it in trade. She went back a few hours later and they made her pay full price for the garment. They could have easily just asked her to pay the trade amount they had given her for it that morning(half of what was on the price tag) and called it even. It only makes sense to honor an honest mistake and extend kindness towards your frequent customers. Some of the women who work there are smiley and warm but the mother/daughter team who own it are, though not mean, certainly not friendly, do not greet customers when they come in, don’t smile, and don’t go out of their way to be kind or helpful. As a customer, I always feel like an inconvenience to them. Aside from that, the way things are run behind the counter seem disorganized and unprofessional. In my many years in California I have visited a lot of buy/sell/trade clothing stores throughout the state and am struck by the difference in professionalism. At most places your trade credit is put on a card(like a debit card) and put into your keeping. At Solstice it is written on the back of a receipt and filed away in store, and I have seen these slips get so confusing from writing in different scripts scattered all over the page that the workers can’t tell how much credit you have and tell you to come back when someone else is there who may be able to figure it out. They actually lost the receipt of a friend of mine and she had to pay for the items she knew she had credit enough to cover. Plus, if you do buy something with credit you then have to pay the tax with cash. It’s inconvenient and unnecessary(there is obviously a way to overcome that since other places in California aren’t like that). Their selection and presentation are just too good to be running the counter in this primitive manner. They seem to be more consistent with their buying days now, but in the past you never knew when would be a good time to take things in. Or you’d be told to come in on Wednesday when so-and-so would be working, and then show up and she’s not there and they aren’t buying. They have also told me before to bring back a certain item in the spring or fall, and then when I do they don’t take it. Overall it is really a fantastic shop and I am grateful for its existence in this town, and I go in there all the time despite all these issues, but I really wish they’d streamline their credit system and work on their customer service.
