Clothing selection is poor. The prices are to high I’m not impressed with this thrift store

I like the store in Nevada City. Friendly staff and volunteers. I got a great lawn mower. I also like their new store in Grass Valley, lots of great stuff. The same goes for the store in Penn Valley. Plus they all help support a great organization not to mention a great cause.

The store itself is pretty good, I usually find something to buy here if I look thoroughly. It feels good knowing the money spent is supporting a good cause. You can also find some interesting vintage/​old things here on occasion, I assume because families who have had an elderly loved one passed away who was in hospice care, donate their items to this shop as a kind gesture.
Some of the employees here could use a few lessons in manners, though! There is one particular woman who goes around squawking at people to get in the check out line anywhere from ½ hour to 45 minutes before the actual closing time of the store. She won’t just announce it loudly like most stores do, that they are closing in 15 minutes or whatnot. She will actually make the effort to walk up to each and every person in the store and stare you in the eye and harass you until you start making your way to the huge line she’s created at the registers. I understand that the employees want to go home at a reasonable hour, but I find this person particularly annoying and unprofessional.
The one time I have ever donated items here, it was a nightmare! A friend and I had some very nice things to donate, no trashy cheap items whatsoever. The employees picked through our things like snobs, only took about 20% of what we had to give, and made comments that some of them weren’t good enough (yet I have seen much lower quality items for sale in the store than what we had to donate!). While waiting in the donation line I got yelled at by the same employees for taking a perfectly good chair cushion out of their garbage. Luckily my friend was already annoyed at that point and stood up for me by telling them it was obviously something they considered trash, and I had no money and was not working at the time, so what the heck did they care if I took it off their hands? After that they backed off. But I do not donate things here anymore because of that experience. The Cancer-​Aid Thrift Shop in GV is always my first choice for donating, they have never turned away anything I’ve taken them, and have always treated me nicely.

Nice thrift store! reasonable and nice things. Organized by size in clothes. They have funky cool stuff by bygone eras if you look hard enough. True thrift store.

So what do the four gal members of our Birthday Club do during our 3 day trip to NC? Near the top of the list after hiking and eating — go the Hospice Gift and Thrift Store.
From the outside it looks very small and unimpressive.
Once you walk in you will be thoroughly amazed!
Lots of clothes, books (nicely organized), kitchen knick knacks, chocks, furniture and plenty of things you never knew you needed.
One could spend hours here. Two of us Birthday Gal members are BIG shopaholics.
One is medium and our fourth not so much. But we ALL found things to buy.
Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area for a couple of days or more!

Hospice is a great thrift store. Clean, organized… and I love ½ off day! However, their prices can be a little high on some things that they deem «collectible.» I have found some great stuff here, but like any thrift store, it takes a bit of dedication and luck.
My favorite thrift store in town!

Went here with a few friends to look around. Lots of cool furniture and a variety of doodads to peruse. Staff was friendly and helpful. Spent a long while just looking through old records.
Will definitely come back if I’m ever in the area.

My son and I here go here every week. Always find some great books.
We also love to visit the cat room upstairs :)

Clean, organized, and cheap. My kinda thrift store!
I bought some books and knick knacks here and my receipt was a total of 2.83. The people working kept bringing stuff out the entire time I was there.
Most of the clothing is very dated, circa 1980s, but hey, you hipsters might find something you like.
If you collect books or records, check this place out.

This is my favorite shop to go to! I find a lot of new very inexpensive items! I find anything and everything I could possiby want!
The manager Bruce is a very funny man and keeps the volunteers happy and on their toes (for those who don’t know, the store is run mainly by volunteers and for such a great cause).
I am always recommending this store to my friends! I am a walking Hospice billboard… pretty much everything I wear is from there!

I really like this place. It’s got some great stuff… not a bad layout. I got a nice selection of stuff to use for production costumes and that made me happy.

Here’s a good thing to know about this Thrifte Shoppe: On the first weekend of each month most everything is half off!
Upon first entering this shoppe, I noticed – and you may notice it too, so maybe I don’t even need to say it, but, well, this is a review, so I should probably just up and out with it all, huh – that the layout is quite appealing. Like, the store looks clean, it looks like there’s a lot of good pickings, and things look new.
And I think I know why this is so: it’s not huge. There aren’t 18 rows of t-​shirts to look through, and so, I believe, there’s a good flow of items, or however you call it. Lots of people come here to buy things, and lots of shelves are promptly stocked anew. I stop in once every few weeks, and I swear I’m looking at a whole new set of clothes each time.
And I’m pretty picky, and lots of things don’t fit me, but I usually always come out with an item or four.
During the holiday I spent about 30 minutes picking through hundreds of Christmas records. Can’t beat that.
They carry polaroids and other neat camera equipment (sometimes even enlargers).
Good selection of glassware.
I’m always looking for a new/​old tobacco pipe, but I haven’t seen one yet.
Anyway, great thrift store. Friendly staff. Lotta regulars who’ll give you tips on how to more effectively browse. And, once again, half off on the first weekend of each month!

This was one of my favorite thrift stores when I lived in Nevada City/​Grass Valley. A great place for funky furniture. A housmate & I bought a huge 6 ft slab of vintage marble to replace a countertop for $ 90 (actually a good price). I also found a good quality butterscotch colored, very modern vintage sofa for only $ 12. I will have it for years & years. When they have mark downs, they really mark them down.
