Harmony Ridge Lodge

We had the wedding of our dreams at Harmony Ridge Lodge this past Saturday, 4−16−16. Heather was wonderful to work with and the grounds are beyond stunning. Being able to have our family and wedding party stay at the lodge with us to make it a wedding weekend was a dream come true. We cannot get over how wonderful our experience was and our guests could not get over the lodge’s beauty. It was a weekend to remember, and so much love to all of the staff for making it the best experience we could have ever asked for!

It is truly tragic that such a beautiful venue can have such a horribly inept, rude and unprofessional management and staff.
My family of 20 people reserved and paid for 6 rooms for 3 days so that we could gather in honor of my father whose funeral service we were attending. Since we no longer have a family home in the area we decided to come together for the first time in many years — daughters, son, spouses, grandchildren and great-​grandchildren — so that we could have time to be together. It was to be a celebration of my father’s life.
Although the rooms were paid for and confirmed a month before the memorial, we were told upon arrival that ‘unfortunately’ we would have to give up some of our rooms because they overbooked!
How do you overbook an inn with 8 rooms and find out the afternoon of everyone’s arrival? AND WHY DID WE NEED TO GIVE UP OUR ROOMS??? (I believe this does bring up some legal issues about eviction and contract breech). I think everyone was just shell-​shocked so we just acquiesced instead of making a huge stink during a time that was supposed to be an event respectful of my father and a joyful connection with our family.
The morning of my father’s funeral, 3 family members had to move out of their room to accommodate the error of the management! That same morning 3 of our family members arrived for breakfast at 8:45 to find that all the breakfast had been put away. When they asked about it, management told them that breakfast ended at 9:30. When it was pointed out that it was only 8:45 management shrugged and said —
Oh, we thought everyone had eaten already.
Next morning the second group of family members (including an infant) were told they needed to vacate their room for the other guests. (‘Are you out yet?’ says the cleaning staff) Again… a room we reserved, paid for and were staying in.
Because we were trying to be together, displaced family members slept on floors.
Aside from these egregious errors, basic courtesies were never extended to anyone in our group. Never once did I hear a ‘good morning’, ‘how was your night?’, ‘is there anything we can get you?’. Typically we were greeted with the manager’s back while she buttered her own toast or with a ‘put upon’ face that felt like we were inconveniencing her by our presence.
The «Great Room» was off limits after 6:30 (and a sign was put up while we were there so we couldn’t share a coffee or piece of fudge in the area) so we gathered as a family in the «Conference Room» so we could eat together, play games, talk and sing Christmas carols. We had to make a special request just to get a broom, garbage bags and cloth so we could clean up our own mess (which was not even that large for a group of 20 people).
There was no room service during our stay (maybe this is typical?) so my husband, two children and I had two towels to share for three days. I didn’t bother asking for more at that point. The trash cans were never emptied, beds never made.
The list goes on, but it would be like beating a dead horse so I will end with saying — «BUYER BEWARE». If you want to have a wedding here — be cautious and don’t expect classy service or even hospitable service.

I loved staying at this place and I wish I did not have to leave. The room was large and it had a day bed/​sleeping area in addition to the regular big bed which I had not anticipated. Their back yard really is the Tahoe National Forest which is beautiful. Hiking trails right there.
Minus one star because their breakfast was not substantial. They do not offer a breakfast meat nor potatoes. They just have one dish each morning, fruit, and bagels. They also ran out of the main dish one morning which they felt bad about. I will certainly return though as I loved the room, the view, and the location.

I purchased a Groupon for this lodge because I’d heard about Nevada City. The gardens around the lodge are quite lovely and the room is fairly quaint. I say «fairly quaint» because there was what seemed to be a blood stain on one of the bed comforters.
Although we had a microwave and little refrigerator in the room there were no plates or cutlery included so come prepared if you intend on making use of these appliances. There is breakfast in the main lodge but I had greater expectations. The first morning it was oatmeal which was rather bland and I couldn’t find any fruit… fresh fruit… I think they had some dried fruit. The next morning I think it was an egg dish but very simple. Nothing gourmet. No fresh baked goods.
If I had paid full price I think I would have complained but since I had the coupon… if I return to the area I think I’d like to check out pricing and accommodations at other B & Bs.

The room was really beautiful — charming and artistically decorated, spacious, convenient. The breakfasts were really great. The staff is really gracious and kind. I made an error with booking without realizing it until after we checked in, and they went above and beyond to help us get situated. We will definitely return.

If we didn’t live in the Northbay, we’d probably end up in Nevada City or Grass Valley. It is truly one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever visited and the nearby Yuba River is a huge draw for us. Google «images» and you’ll see how stunning it is – any time of year. Lucky for us, we basically have home away from home right there in Nevada City. HRL offers clean/​comfortable, safe, pet-​friendly (big plus), conveniently located accommodations. The staff is friendly and attentive, and breakfast is delicious.
It’s become an annual tradition to pay a visit to HRL, and there’s really no better place to stay (although camping nearby is awesome, too). The places in-​town are overpriced and touristy, and if you want to be closer to nature, this is your spot. Even if not, driving into town is easy enough to do.
We’re heading out there this coming weekend for yet another stay, and as tempting as it was to log onto AirBnB and book something cheaper, it was a major hassle going back and forth with stingy and picky homeowners; I see now that it’s really a poor excuse for a business and isn’t regulated in any way. I’ve decided to dub it «AirBnBummer». We had to read novels on the site, and figure out if we can bring the dog, if it’s child friendly, and somehow keep track of everyone’s house rules, texts and emails, and round and round we go. Exhausting, I tell you. Going with an actual establishment like HRL makes for a quick, easy, and professional transaction.
We are so incredibly excited to bring the whole family and enjoy our favorite suite, which is very spacious and includes a small fridge, two beds, a dining table, Wi-​Fi, NO TV (which is a good thing), a two-​person whirlpool (in private bathroom), and opens up to the lovely forested back yard – which is fenced in, making it safe for our pup to roam around. So, whether you stay in to get some rest, or head out to see the myriad of beautiful places near the property, you will likely leave with one more thing/​place to daydream about when you get back to the daily grind.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a quick getaway not too far from Sacramento, but far enough to get away from the city, and this place truly delivered. Although we didn’t bring any pups, it was very nice to get acquainted with other guests’ furry friends.
About the place:
–The room was HUGE and the backyard was literally the Tahoe National Forest.
–There was a beautiful hike/​bike trail right next to the lodge, which led down to a lake.
–Everything about the location was perfect. We were able to relax in the room during the evening, and then take a short drive to a beautiful hike during the day.
–The grounds were fun to roam through (see the dragon sculpture and hammock).
About the service:
–Nicole was an amazing hostess!
–The breakfast in the morning was simple but delicious. Nicole made sure that everything was well-​stocked.
–The room was equipped with a small handheld LED lantern, which came in handy when I went for an evening hike and stargazing.
Bottom line, I can’t wait for another vacation!

Harmony Ridge Lodge was peaceful, beautiful and dog friendly. We loved that we could bring our dogs with us. We had a great relaxing weekend. Thank you Harmony Ridge Lodge!

What a beautiful resort! The property is lush with so many variations of plants and trees, it give you a feeling of being in some sort of fantasy world! The staff was wonderful and very friendly. This is a perfect venue for a wedding or a romantic getaway!!!

I am really surprised that I have to give this place such a bad review. After reading all of the wonderful reviews I expected to have a great experience but that was not the case.
As far as the staff goes they were very friendly. The ladies who helped us were polite and answered all of our questions. The fenced in woods was awesome as well. My dog absolutely loved running around without a leash and the horseshoe pit was a lot of fun.
The room was the main problem. We stayed in a room with two double beds located above the office. This was not a nice room. I’m not sure how this place got 5 stars. Maybe this is a room they don’t use often. The carpet was super stained, the walls were very dirty and had lots of little holes. The couch had some interesting white stains on it. The vertical blinds had stains on them and kept breaking every time we went outside. The beds were hard as a rock and not comfortable in any way. Lots of items were broken such as the lamps next to the bed. I really could go on but you get the point.
As I said I am super sad that I had such a bad experience when clearly people love this hotel. Hopefully this room will be updated and no one else will have this same experience but I definitely would not recommend coming here.

A true gem on the outskirts of Nevada City. Beautiful grounds, gracious staff, spacious rooms. Really quiet and comfortable… try the hammock or go for a hike right from your front door. Close to lakes and rivers and 10 min from downtown. We loved it! Very dog and kid friendly but still has a certain level of charm and style that anyone would find appealing. A must stay!

Big thumbs up. We had a lovely stay at the lodge and was so very impressed by the quality of art work that was Everywhere. Someone there is having lots of fun buying original prints and sculptures. a treat at each turn.
My boyfriend and I were in a hurry to depart and forgot three pieces of clothing in the closet, we didn’t realize until we were already back in SF. The lodge called us and mail them to us the next day … oh did I mention that we had $ 250 cash in the pocket — all that made it back to us, what professional service that was!
We also had dinner at the 5 Mile restaurant down the path … excellent pizza and local crowd dancing to live music on Sunday night. Bring a flash light with you if your walking … it gets mighty dark out there on the path.

Beautiful accommodations in a beautiful setting! Staff was professional and room was great — loved that there wasn’t a television. WiFi came in strong in the room and on the back patio.
Only complaint? Bed was really, really squeaky. If you get my drift.

We stayed here for two nights. Debbie was an excellent hostess and cook. The complementary breakfast in the morning was a wonderful start for the day. Her waffles served with fresh made applesauce and scrambled eggs were wonderful. The gardens and grounds were very nice. This place is dog friendly and we brought our two dogs with who I think enjoyed this place as much as us. The property has about 4 acres of fenced in area where the dogs can run free.
There is plenty to do close by. We had dinner at The Five Mile House that was a short walk from the property. There are plenty of hiking trials close by. My boyfriend and I along with our dogs took a hike to Scotts Flat Lake via the Scotts Flat Trail which is an 8 mile round trip hike.
We will come back and stay again as we are always looking for a place that welcomes our dogs.

I don’t think 5 are enough. The rooms are incredible. The ladies who run the lodge are the sweetest. They are very helpful, responsive, thoughtful, and kind. We did a wedding retreat there: Yoga then an amazing wedding in the end of June. Perhaps, one of my favorite places on Earth. Flowers, fruit, trees, forest, nature… heavenly. The price is too good, near the cute town and the most incredible river. I would say to vacation there, host a retreat, or get married… whatever, just go! The weekend brunch was so yummy! They allow dogs and consider food allergies. I heard that is was the most lovely wedding over and over! I can’t describe this great place with enough words.

We just stayed here for one night for the first time and it was amazing! We were up for a close friends 60^th birthday party. I am sorry it was only one night. Our room was the Owl’s Nest and it was just wonderful. The room was nicely decorated so great with quaint items. The garden and grounds are so well maintained from the flowers to the fruit trees. And the house dogs were adorable. This mornings breakfast was such a treat with crisp fresh made waffles served with fresh local peaches! Who could ask for more.
The staff were so incredibly helpful on things to do. And they were great at just sitting and talking with you. Very comfortable surroundings and they made you feel right at home.
We will come back, stay longer for sure. I will highly recommend this lovely place to everyone!

My beautiful sister got married here this past weekend, and we couldnt have picked a better place. It was absolutely stunning! The grounds are beyond gorgeous, and the lodge is warm, inviting and comfortable. I truely believe that having this venue was the fundamental reason my sister’s day was so perfect.
Deb served everyone a hot and delicious breakfast every morning, and mingles to make sure everyone is enjoying their stay. She goes the extra mile to make sure the bride is comfortable and that everyone feels at home. What a wonderful woman!
The rooms provided the perfect place for our family reunion, getting ready and dressing the bride. Again… the perfect location.
P.S…the bar down the street is a great place for a little pre-​party the night before… and an awesome after party for when the formal reception ends. It is a quick walk, they are friendly and accomodating to bridal parties, and have fabulous tequila!

AMAZING!
We had our wedding here in early September, surrounded by wild flowers, redwood trees, twinkling lights, and white lanterns.
The staff is so friendly and inviting that they immediately feel like family. They even make home made breakfast in the Lodge for those staying the night. Each of the rooms at HRL (whether in the main lodge or in the adjacent building) is styled in a matter that is cozy but luxurious at the same time. The prices per room or all the rooms (for a wedding) are very reasonable. They also have 2 very sweet dogs. The fact that this place is dog friendly is even more a plus.
My wife can’t stop talking about how beautiful our wedding looked because of HRL.

Just officiated a wedding at Harmony Ridge Lodge. AMAZING place on the edge of Tahoe National Forest. Stunningly gorgeous well-​tended to grounds. Spacious well-​appointed rooms. Delicious house made breakfast. The staff was impeccable at every turn. Uniquely set up to host weddings, retreats, conferences, etc. AND a top notch B & B for travelers, explorers and tourists. Recommend highly.

Came to Harmony Ridge Lodge for my friends’ wedding and I must say, it was the most amazing wedding! Of course the bride, groom and the friends/​family were the best… but it would not have been the same if it weren’t for this beautiful, serene, & harmonious setting!
The hosts are super friendly, rooms are very clean, and the overall setting is PERFECT for such a special occasion! I will definitely come back for a retreat or just a getaway!
The waffles in the morning are worth a mention!!!
