Great food, great vibe. Service is great. Drinks are a tad bit overpriced in my opinion. But other than that it’s a cool spot. Guac is made fresh for you at your table.

Tried to make reservations since its always busy but was told they dont do reservations. Drinks and tacos were affordable pricing. Tried most of their tacos and by far better than Tacolu in my opinion. This place would be 5stars for me if they did reservations.

Awesome place! A short wait, good service, amazing margarita(pomegranate), and the tacos were fabulous(southern comfort, carnitas, and dirty south). Great location too(parking can be a little difficult).

Margaritas were on point. Wife had a pomegranate one. Table side guacamole was delicious as well. Waited about 15 minutes for a table on a Sunday night. Our meal consisted of a sampling of tacos. The Southern Comfort taco was the winner.

Thanks to my nurse at Mayp Clinic for recommending this gem. We had the steak tacos that she recommended and they did not disappoint! The potato chorizo empanadas were just as fabulous and the complimentary green salsa was some of the best I’ve ever had! I do agree with other reviews that said the service was lacking a bit. We will be back next time we are in Jaxs Beach.

This is my go-to restaurant. My favorite is the elderflower margarita! I very rarely like sweeter drinks, but this one is delicious. The service is reliably quick and personable, and the atmosphere is great whether you’re going out late night or want an afternoon lunch on the patio. Also, try all of the tacos. They’re all fantastic.

My favorite taco place! Love the queso, the tacos and the desserts! The service can be hit or miss, but mostly good. Love it love it. Even the salmon corn cake appetizer(something I would have never tried without a recommendation) is delicious!

High quality, good service, premium location, and a dog friendly patio. We’ve brought our pup here twice and dined on the nicely decked out patio. Parking is tight in the area but it appears that they have«complimentary valet parking» in the lot by the restaurant. They’ve monopolized about half the lot — I guess it’s good so that beachers aren’t overtaking spots of restaurant goers, but annoying cause I’d rather just park my own car. Food — awesome tacos and quac! Really the guac is awesome! We have ordered a side(like $ 1 or 2) both times and it was fantastic. They also can do a side of queso too. Freshly made chips, seasoned, are brought out for the table with red and green salsa. I really appreciate good chips, a simple but easy way to show your attention to detail is how high of quality your freebies are. They have entrees but we’ve ordered tacos both times. If you like fish, you must try the flying fish and blacked shrimp. If you like beef, get the beef taco — soooooooo tender and savory! Seriously these tacos are great. We tried the toastadas last visit, stuffed with chorizo and potato and fried to perfection — heavy, but very good. AND to top it all off they’re located by the beach! So whether before or after a day of Sunning and salty fun, I highly recommend you check this place out!

Great environment, cool atmosphere, and the food is top notch. Really put a nice fresh twist on Mexican style entrees. Pretty cool, traveling guacamole station. A waiter whips of fresh guac right before your eyes… Live music on multiple nights. Which is normally fairly good, but as for tonight this band is really injustice to Michael Jackson right now. …somebody get them off the stage.

Two high quality dishes, great service and quite possibly THE coolest atmosphere in the beach area make for a five-star experience. We actually tried to eat here the night before. A Friday night, around 7pm. An hour 45 minute wait. No thanks. However, Saturday around 530pm seemed to be an opportune time to dine in. Again, it was still fairly busy. My best guess is Flying Iguana is never not busy. Three words: Chicken Tortilla Soup — some of the best I’ve ever had. Absolutely perfect consistency. All the garnishes complimented the broth. Creaminess from the avocado, crunchiness from the tortilla strips, and crumbly queso fresco. Two more words: Junkyard Taco —(sold by the name alone and the the portion size lives up to it). Tender chicken and roasted potatoes, crispness from charred corn and fresh cabbage, and queso sauce prepared by Jesus Christ himself. To wash it all down? Green Room’s Pablo Beach. Talk about a perfect meal. Flying Iguana is the real deal. I’d love to actually check out the Tequila Bar, because the menu is filled with about 100 different varieties of tequilas. Again, if you’re coming for drinks — go during peak hours. If you’re looking for a fine meal — go early and save yourself the hassle.

All Floridians should have great Mexican food from Austin, Texas or Los Angeles, California to really know where I am coming from. It had been a long while, but we tried this place again today. After 3 years of living in Atlantic Beach, the menu at Flying Iguana is so eclectically nothing special. They have an excellent margarita, BUT it is not worth $ 12. Jacksonville has not hit the mark at all with it’s Mexican flavor. Even with the new Cantina Louie, nope. I have had Mexican food that makes you roll on the ground, rubbing your belly like Winnie the Pooh. I mean so good, there is hugging and crying… ;-) Anyway, Flying Iguana, I say, ho hum.

Just still not impressed. WAY overpriced for what they offer. $ 12 for a margarita? Chilquiles is what I ordered and it was completely different than the menu. No corn tortillas. It’s actually a massive plate of nachos smothered in ll green, salty salsa. How this place stays busy? I’m guessing a lot locals who don’t know good Mexican. They need a way better happy hour and some NEW menu items. It’s been years. Get some new stuff!

Came here last night with two friends who introduced me to the place. The atmostphere was really nice. I was surprised how I found nearby parking even though the area seemed packed. When we entered the hostess in the front took our name and said it would be a 45 minute wait. Luckily they have a very nice bar so we sat at the bar and got a few drinks while waiting for our table. The bartender was very friendly and nice. He offered that if we didn’t like the drinks we ordered we could let him know and have something else. I loved my red sangria it was awesome! I totally recommend it. It took a long while once our table was ready to get our check for our drinks before we could sit down. This wasn’t the bartenders fault he was very busy, i just think maybe it would be better if the bill could somehow carry on if you’re dining here or to have a faster way to pay if you are at the bar and your table becomes ready. Once we sat down our server was pretty nice. We started off with guacamole. I loved how they have a guy come and freshly make it at your table its awesome! And the guacamole was superb! My big mistake was I should have just ordered one taco since we had guacamole and chips. Because I ordered the junkyard taco and the southern comfort and it ended up being too much food for me. I ate the junkyard taco first and It was amazing! So delicious. To be honest, I didnt like the southern comfort taco at all. Like 0%. I thought last night when I took my first bite that I didn’t like it because I was already full but then today when I tried to eat it I realized that I just really did not like the combination. It did not taste good to me sadly. Anyhow, my experience here last night was very nice overall and I hope to return again and try some other things on there menu. Thank you!

This place has some amazing tacos! Not authentically delicious Mexican-style, but more like fantastic fusion stuff. I really enjoyed the rich and creative mingling of flavors. The only thing I dislike are the prices, but that’s a small price to pay for delicious and creative food.

I haven’t found most guacamoles to be flavorful enough for my palate and the places that boast homemade, tableside creations are usually not worth the extra cash. But, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by this spot in Neptune Beach. In fact, the guacamole($ 9.5) was so good when I dined there for brunch a few weeks ago that I ordered it again on a recent visit back for dinner. Well, I quickly discovered that flavor is the name of the game at Flying Iguana. From the salsas, to the sweet potato waffle($ 10), to the red eye gravy that tops the sweet potato fries on the southwest poutine($ 7), the kitchen staff take the seasoning seriously. I mean, even the complimentary chips are sprinkled with a mix of spices. The tacos($ 3.5-$ 5) receive the same attention to detail. Filled with meat and appropriately topped with a good portion of «fixins», you’ll definitely find the value in the tacos. The steak taco is excellent! While the food is solid, the service needs work. On a mid-Sunday morning, no smiles could be found on the faces of the hostesses or the wait staff. Unfortunately, the scene was replicated on a busy Saturday night. The servers took our order both times and then they rarely came back to check on us. But, even with the poor service, I’m sure that I’ll be back, if only for the guacamole.

I had been wanting to come out here for a long time, since I got a taste of their tacos at an event, so finally made it out for dinner after the Atlantic beach art walk. First is on a thurs night they were slammed busy! Like an hour wait, but you put your name down and they will text you when your tables ready so you don’t have to wait there. Once we got our table, it was so loud! Like you can barely hear the person sitting right next to you, then they had a band start playing inside so you really couldn’t hear anything(but the band was good, I liked the music) Now to the food… by far the best thing was the tacos Apps: esquilas(?) — Mexican street corn– just ok… roasted corn, slathered with a siryacha mayo with cheese sprinkled on top, small portion and was really spicy Corn cakes with salmon– again just ok, the corn cakes were really sweet, and served lukewarm, they tasted good with the salmon and cream on top We got about 7 different tacos and all shared them so we could try them all, they were delicious! Layers of fresh flavors, combining sweet, spicy, fresh, salty… so good. Get a few different tacos and try them out! Sorry about the dark pics, I just couldn’t use a flash in the restaurant,(the horror! ;) it was pretty dark in there!

The Flying Iguana Order: 2 Blackened Shrimp tacos, 2 Fish(Mahi) tacos, 1 Carnitas taco, 1 Junkyard(chicken and potato) taco, Churros as a desert Price: $ 34 Pros: Tacos were awesome, seafood in the tacos was fresh and delicious, great outside seating, waitstaff was attentive and friendly Cons: Just a tad salty Thoughts: I love tacos, probably my favorite type of food(very closely tied with pizza). So when someone recommended this place for the tacos, it immediately went on the«to try» list. We finally got around to trying it and we were not disappointed. This will now definitely be one of my go-to places for upscale tacos. I say upscale because it seems like their more«simple» or common tacos lacked the same amount of flavor as their more unique, or seafood options. The shrimp and fish in the tacos was incredibly fresh and particularly delicious. The blackened fish taco with cabbage, mango chunks, and sauce was probably my favorite and the server said that they could do it with fish in it as well. I also really liked that they had so much outside seating, this is the beach after all so why wouldn’t you want to sit outside. My only really negative is that all their food seemed just slightly on the salty side. Now maybe most people wouldn’t notice but I don’t salt anything so I’m a little more sensitive to salty food. Other than that though they really nailed their seafood tacos. It did look like their guacamole was awesome but as my wife didn’t like avocados I couldn’t bring myself to spend $ 9.50 on a dish she we wouldn’t share but if you have someone to share it with I would definitely give it a shot. We did get their churros as a desert; I’ve actually never had churros other those disgusting fried dough things from Taco Bell so I didn’t know quite what to expect, and they were really good. The dish was actually a little big for just two people; there were 7 rather large churros with chocolate dipping sauce on the side. The dough wasn’t overly dry, while still not being doughy in the middle and the chocolate sauce was not too sweet and chalky, like a lot of chocolate sauces tend to be. I probably wouldn’t order this with just two people in the future due to the size but if you had 4 to split it with it would be perfect. This is a great place to get tacos with a little more flare than you average«street taco» place. I’ll definitely be coming back for more in the future.

My friend finally was able to drag me to this place after much hyping about how good the tacos were. I had my taco places that I wanted to stick to but deep down inside I knew I needed more options. So we decided to check it out for Sunday dinner… We picked the best day and time to go, while we’re under a thunderstorm/tornado watch haha. It was bad but when we got there we were able to find parking relatively easy and right in front of the restaurant. We got inside and the place was packed. There was a small wait, about 20 mins so we decided to sit at the bar and order margaritas. My friend ordered a Watermelon Bliss: tequila, agave nectar, watermelon, cucumber, lime, and lemon. I’m not a big fan of watermelon but I liked it. I ordered the Floral Arrangement: St. Germain Elderflower, agave nectar, fresh lime, sour mix, and tequila with an edible hibiscus flower in the bottom. I really liked this drink and I should have ordered another one but I needed to save room for food. Our table was ready so we went back to the hostess stand and the hostess took us to our table. The chairs are really unique and I like that the leather seat cradles your butt haha. We went over and over the menu and decided we’d share an appetizer, order our own tacos, and share an entrée. Good plan. For the appetizer, we got the Sweet Corn Tamale Cakes. We’d seen a picture of it before on Facebook and they looked heavenly. They are corn cakes with smoked salmon, crema, chives, and ancho chile sauce. I love smoked salmon and they were delicious. Next, were our tacos. I ordered one of the specials, the Junkyard Taco which has grilled chicken, roasted potato, queso sauce, cabbage, charred corn, flaming iguana sauce all up in it. This was a stuffed taco and I love it. Everything was perfect and the iguana sauce had some kick to it. A sip of my margarita put out the flames and I continued. I also ordered the Anticucho Steak Taco which had grilled onions, a green chili sauce called aji verde, fresno chile, pepitas or pumpkin seeds. This taco I think was better than the junkyard taco as far as what you would expect from a taco. The tender steak, the onions grilled just right, the sauces added the right amount of flavor and spice. The pepitas threw me off but it paired perfectly with everything else. My friend got the Crispy Pork Belly Taco which has rum n’ coke glaze, watermelon, cotija cheese, and pickled onion. She liked it a lot. On to the entrée! We ordered their special for the night, the Chili Dusted Diver Sea Scallops with white and purple potatoes, squash, zucchini and some awesome sauce(I forgot was it was but it was awesome). Those scallops tho! They were cooked just right and they melted in your mouth. They had to be the best scallops I’ve EVER had in Jax. We had no room for dessert but had room for at least one more drink. My friend was absolutely right about this place and we should have came sooner. Definitely a fan.

I loved this place! It’s definitely one of Atlantic Beach’s hot spots. The Flying Iguana was packed with people dining at tables, but is constructed in a way where the bar and food areas felt separate. The décor is great: lots of lights that change color, some murals, and a space for performers. On the night I was here, there was a pretty good guitarist performing. Most people seemed to be eating quesadillas and tacos, and the guacamole looked appetizing as well. My friend and I already ate so we only came to drink. However, having looked at the menu, I would love to try some food here next time we’re in Jacksonville! Drinks: extensive collection of tequila and the menu is definitely focused on that, so you might as well try one of their specialty margarita/tequila drinks. I did see other bar goers ordering standard mixed drinks like Jack and Coke though. My friend ordered the Patio Lizard which came in a tall martini glass. You could definitely taste the bourbon and brown syrup that would remind you of Jack Daniel’s honey whiskey. The fresh watermelon in it was more evident in the color of the drink than in flavor. I ordered The Garden which had fresh cilantro, cucumber, lime, the house made sour mix/simple syrup and 901 blanco tequila. It was delicious, refreshing, and quite potent. Knowing that, the bartender offered some extra ice. I was very happy with the service and our experience here. It was a fun place to go to, and I would be happy to come back sometime soon.
