Horrible. Incredibly rude and resistant. Nobody at this firm is a pleasure to speak with but despite this, they claim to be «The leading debt collections law firm in Massachusetts». Really disappointed with my experience and would highly recommend seeking other council for debt collection.

Scummy and shady law firm that has their hands in the pockets of the poor. If they sue you, show up. Many people are afraid to and automatically default. They usually don’t even have a case. Just fight it in court.

These guys purchase spreadsheet upon spreadsheet of debts that consumers allegedly owe banks and credit card companies, paying pennies on the dollar for the «rights» to the «debt», and then blindly sue everyone in sight with no evidence or regard to the debt’s legitimacy. I have been to two different courts against them for two different false allegations. Both times, they also had claims against dozens upon dozens of other people who failed to show up and defaulted. They do this on purpose, often serving people at incorrect addresses to maximize the chance of a default judgement. With a default judgement, they pursue levies or wage garnishment!
I am not an attorney nor qualified to give legal advice by any means, but from personal experience, don’t be afraid of them if you have to appear in court. Simply show up. They will immediately corner you away from the judge and offer a «payment plan». This isn’t how small claims works! I have easily defeated them by simply stating to them and the magistrate, that «I do not know them, have no idea what account number this debt is regarding, I have not seen any contract or evidence of any agreement with the Plaintiff, and I am not aware of what goods or services were rendered for the alleged debt».
They scurried away in their $ 99 Joseph A. Banks suits… how does that rap song go? «0 to a 100… Real quick. Real quick. Real real quick.»
«Judgement for the Defendant» are perhaps the four sweetest words in the English language.

When dealing with a debt collection law firm that represents debt buyers, it is always best to have an attorney on your side as well. If you review LGWs website, they have several attorneys working for them. Why not have your own? One tactic that you can all use is filing Motion to transfer to the Civil Docket, when you receive a Small Claims notice. You could then complete discovery and find all of the holes in their case and most likely have a claim under the FDCPA or Massachusetts’ 93A. I was just in Peabody District Court and heard 100s of cases entered as defaults because people failed to appear. Always appear. The courts would be forced to take action because they could not keep up with the case volume. On average 90% of people never show up. If you are afraid hire an attorney.
