I mainly go here for lunch during the weekdays while I am at work. Literally seconds away from where I work which is great. Parking lot only has room for a few cars, but there is also street parking. I’ve been going here long enough to know, that if I have a big order for a group of people, I should call ahead and have it ready for pick up. Going in at noon is busy and frustrating. Their chicken salad with cranberries & walnut sandwich on Canadian health bread is delicious– probably my favorite! I’ve had a few of their other sandwiches, and they are also good. Pizza is also great– cheese or pepperoni! They also have calzones and desserts. And all prices are reasonable!

This place has the best bread in the area, but I have to agree with many of the other commenters in that the service is less than spectacular. You also never know if they are going to have bread or when they’ll be open. I’d really like to drive home that last point in this review. If the owner is reading this I would put forth to you that the majority of your customers are in work Mon-Fri and home on the weekends. Why are you closed on Sunday? You should open on Sunday and maybe close on Monday. or hire somebody else to bake on Sunday and be open everyday. FYI people eat everyday and if you are not open I’ll try someplace else and may find that I like it better. The other thing is walking in at 10:00am only to find that the bread is not ready is not acceptable. And the time that the bread will be ready can be 9 am today and 11 am tomorrow. My aunt used to work at a bakery in Boston and the baker was in work at 4 am baking bread so it would ready for his customers in the morning. I guess what it comes down to is in this place the customer is always wrong and sure you’ll survive because of superior products, but with good customer service you could have a line going out the door and multiple branches.

Love Hazel’s. Their freshly made sandwiches are delicious and their baked goods are fabulous. Wonderful place to order for the holidays, too! Their special order cakes and cupcakes get rave reviews every time we serve them! Almost forgot, Hazel’s chicken pot pies are to die for.

My friend and I went to Hazel’s this morning and ordered 2 breakfast bagels. We’ve been there before but it was before they remodeled it. The guy who made the bagels«Chris» came back with both bagels wrapped in aluminum foil. As he reached out to give them to us he switched the bagels as if he almost gave us the each other’s bagel by mistake. Since we ordered the exact same thing we didn’t understand why he needed to switch them. We get back to the station and decide to compare our breakfast bagels. We were surprised and appalled at what we found out. His sandwich looked absolutely delicious! He had 5 thick pieces of bacon on his plenty of cheese on top of a perfectly cooked egg and the bacon was even hanging out of the bagel. So I opened up mine. I had 2 maybe 2.5 small, thin strips of burnt bacon on mine and it seemed to be balled up in some dry hard cooked cheese on a partial egg like either it was a small egg or some of it was removed before it was put on the bagel. My friend ordered the breakfast bagels and I paid for them both. But when you order 2 identical meals and the quality of both are at opposite ends of the spectrum and you give the burnt nasty one to the African American customer on purpose because he definitely switched them in front of us, and you give the perfectly made one to the white patron, it looks like some of us aren’t welcome at Hazel’s. I won’t be going back.

I went in here based on the amazing sandwich reviews. I have never been treated so rudely by a person working anywhere. If you don’t like your job. Don’t work there but to literally stare at customers with contempt. Snarl responses to their questions. Unacceptable. I walked out with nothing because I could not give my money to a place like that.

Hazel’s is a fantastic bakery, and I feel so lucky to have it in Needham. First off, it’s so nice to have a small business in the neighborhood. Why get mass-produced baked goods from chains when you can come to a gem like this? Things I love: — Ninja turtle cookies! These are gingerbread cookies that are frosted in the design of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles(complete with different colors for each turtle). The gingerbread is spiced to perfection, and the consistency is soft(but not too soft) and slightly chewy. The frosting is delicious, and sweet but not cloying. Plus, they’re so fun to look at! I once bought a giant ninja turtle cookie(probably a foot and a half long) for only $ 10! It was a big crowd pleaser. — Whoopie pies. Hazel’s has the best whoopie pies I’ve ever had. The filling is scrumptious frosting, not nasty shortening like other places use. — Sugar cookies. These are my go-to when the ninja turtles run out. They do sugar cookies perfectly, in my estimation. Plus they always have fun designs(Red Sox, Patriots, smiley faces, etc.) — Cupcakes. I like vanilla with vanilla frosting, and these never disappoint! — The sandwiches. I love the bread at Hazel’s, and they have Boar’s Head cheeses and honey mustard. What more could you ask for? Things I don’t love: — The ninja turtle cookies often run out early. I’ll stop by and be heartbroken to see the case full of unfrosted ninjas, but no frosted ones. One time, an employee offered to frost one on the spot for me, which I accepted! It was pretty much the best day of my life. — They don’t usually put the frosted cookies in a box unless you ask. I like to preserve the beautiful appearance of my ninja turtles, so I ask for a box. Overall, Hazel’s is my favorite bakery for treats and sandwiches. To use Phantom lingo, it’s a real hidden jewel. Definitely worth a trip!

This place is fantastic! I was there yesterday to pick up the BEST lemon meringue pie you have EVER tasted and came outside to find a grill cooking hot dogs and chicken breast. I had a $ 2 hot dog and bun which came with a free cookie. I think she said it was a Boorshead hotdog and was it ever delicious. Steve is the master baker and he has a son who is just as nice as he is. They are a first class bakery — try their buttercrust bread or a sandwich made on healthy multigrain or their butterflake rolls. Everything you get is fabulous. I’ve been going there since Hazel owned it and Steve and his family have done a great job carrying on the legend of Hazel’s Bakery.

Almost 4 years later and Hazel’s is still our #1 sandwich destination in Needham. We’ve branched out and have enjoyed their baked goods, which are equally as delicious. During the holidays they make the BEST petit fours. Do yourself a favor and buy a dozen … or two. During my frequent visits over the years I noticed that they always had a lot of cake orders and wanting to know what all the fuss was about I placed an order for a cake for my son’s baptism. Not only did it look amazing, but it was absolutely delicious! All of our guests thought so as well. The staff is always so friendly and helpful. Going to Hazel’s is one of our favorite weekend treats!

This place is so great, I bake so I’am super hard to please. There is no decent bakery near us so to find this place was such a blessing, I’am pretty sure there free of additives and unnatural ingredients.

Ohhhhh Hazel’s. First off — I grew up a few blocks from here and when I worked in the city there it stood in all its glory between me and the commuter rail(this was before the Dunkin Donuts opened across from the rail). There was no reason NOT to go in there — they have coffee and their stuff is ok. Note: O-K. I have a hard time criticizing this place because its just so cute and has been a local staple for so long. Especially now that Needham is becoming bank-land its nice to have places like this still around. However — it isn’t as great as it could be. Their prices are kinda high but I don’t mind that — Needham is expensive and I don’t mind spending a few bucks more to support my local community businesses. One star off for food. This is in regards to the breakfast items only. I haven’t ordered bulk items(cupcakes etc) there since I was in elementary school so I cant really speak to that. They would also have the basic muffins, cinnamon rolls, etc. Sometimes they would be good, but then sometimes they would be stale. Consistency please! Once again, I don’t mind paying a bit more here but I expect to at least have fresh items in the morning. Another star off for inconsistent service. For the most part everyone I have encountered here has been sweet, friendly, and willing to serve/help. I even know a few people that have worked here over the years and they all say they were treated great(anyone who reads my reviews knows that it is important to me how a business treats their employees). However — there used to be(I say this because I haven’t been in the last few months and don’t want to assume she still works there) an older woman that would work the counter and would be quite surly. If your having a bad day and cant muster a smile — fine. But please don’t just grunt at me and sigh when I walk in. Considering it is a small business right near a dunkin donuts, you’d think they would step up customer service. In sum — I will still return. I have far too many warm and fuzzy memories of going here as a kid(and a young adult) to override the few negatives. I will also update my review if/when anything changes.

The Canadian Health Bread is delicious here and worth a drive out to Needham to pick some up. It has steel oats in it and also molasses. A little bit salty, but delicious nonetheless. :)

Horrid customer service. I have never been to a place with such bad customer service in my life. My company frequents Hazels as their sandwiches are delicious but you would think as a loyal customer we would be treated with respect. They are always running out of their food by 1:00 in the afternoon ex: canadian health bread and meats. Just rude, rude people especially the owners. I would not recommend this place just b/c of the attitude you get from everyone in there.

Hazel’s is one of my favorite spots to pick up lunch to-go. They have delicious, fresh sandwiches on homemade bread — try the Canadian Health bread, it’s amazing! They also have great homemade pizza, different than your standard slice but delicious. Time it right because at noontime, there will be a line of people — so go early or go late if you want to avoid. Staff is very friendly and they try to keep thing moving. Hazel’s baked goods are excellent, especially their breads, cupcakes, cakes, jellyrolls, eclairs, fruit bars, and whoopie pies. Old-fashioned and yummy! Only downsides: I’m not a fan of their cookies — too dry and crispy for my taste. I prefer chewy and chompy. But everything else is great. Overall an excellent place to grab a bite or a treat!

I’ve worked in Needham for a long time, and I didn’t discover Hazel’s until I needed an emergency birthday cake after a rather insignificant incident with a not-so-nice baker in J.P.(story for another time). The chocolate cake was very chocolatey, as described, but almost too sugary sweet for me. I think a kid would love it, but the birthday woman didn’t finish her slice, which made me wish I’d duked it out for the cake I really wanted to get her at the other place. However, they have deli sandwiches made to order that were a nice change from the hefty Cowlicks and Mighty Subs options. I went with a turkey and provolone on their homemade round wheat bread. It was really good bread. This spot is completely no-frills, it has no seating and it’s out in the middle of the burbs. Felt like we were driving to someone’s house. But I’d return for a sandwich or a sub, or maybe to try a pizza or some of their other pastries. The cookies looked great.

Only vaguely remember going here… we just kind of stumbled across it. They have a black and white picture of their founders on the wall, and they have good fruit filled things.
