Great selection of fabrics for the home. Poor customer service, very difficult to maneuver bolts of fabric to cutting table. Bring help with you! Spent one hour in store trying to decide and measuring fabric, do it yourself attitude. Know your measurements and take a measuring tape, calculator available at cutting table.

Purchased a light cream colored remnant roll to have an armchair seat re-​done. My impression was this was in the clearance section as it was the ‘end of the roll’ and not much left.
The gentleman who cut the two yards I needed never mentioned that a good one foot of it was dirty and would I like to purchase a little more so the upholstery refinisher wouldn’t have to use this dirty part. My concern was the dirt showing thru such a light colored fabric. The arm chair will mostly be used for ‘show’ but I did not want to start out with the material already dirty.
All he said was, I already cut it– never giving me any option except paying regular price for the large roll from the main section of the warehouse.
I voiced my concern to the lady at the front desk and she gave me the same option. That they would cut me more from the big roll for regular price, NOT from the remnant roll. The remnant roll was fine except for the dirty one foot section so it didn’t make sense to pay regular when there was plenty for my small job on the remnant roll.
I GIVE ZERO STARS FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.

First of all I don’t claim to be an auto trimmer and I don’t claim to be an expert at all. In fact I suck at it. I worked for Macs Auto Upholstory in Ventura for a few months. Now that I relocated to San Diego. I decided to replace the flattened foam on my bench seat. So I decided to get some supplies from UFO in National City. The employees greeted me as I walked in. I asked one of them for help and that’s when everything went down hill.
Me: I need some foam.
Employee: What kind?
Me: The type to rebuild my truck seat.
Employee: I don’t know what you want?
Me: The one that’s used for rebuilding car seats.
Employee: How much do you need?
Me: I’m not sure. I’ll decide when I see it.
Employee: Well you need to know how much you need. You should have measured it before you came in.
Me: Hey man. Your closing in half hour. Can you just please show me your foam?
To make a long story short. The guy has zero customer service skills. It was like pulling teeth to get him to help me. He gave me the most expensive 2 feet by 2 feet piece. Never informed about the mid grade piece.
2 foot piece of foam and a can of glue cost me $ 60.00.

Great selection of fabric and foam. Nice and helpful staff. After visiting a few other fabric/​upholstery specialty stores and browsing online, for the same quality we felt this store was over priced and a little out of the way to get to. We ended up purchasing the same fabric we had seen before for $ 22/​yd vs the $ 12 we had seen at other places mainly because we didn’t want to waste more time/​effort to go back to the original place.

They do very good upholstery work there, and at reasonable prices, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. We left our antique settee with them, and they kept pushing the deadline back. Every time they would say: it’ll be ready on Friday but we will call you for sure. And for two or three weeks we ended up calling them on Monday but the settee still wasn’t ready. Eventually when it was actually ready they still didn’t call us so we only found out about it because we got tired of waiting. They did a nice job on it but how hard is it to follow up with your customers?

I drove to the national city UFO location with my cushions in hand and arrived close to their closing time. They completely refused to help me in any way. Would not even begin to discuss my order. They only said «you could come back tomorrow… I couldn’t even write up your order in the time before we close…» They sat in their chairs and made no effort to talk to me about what they could do in the 10 minutes available to start my order or try to coordinate. I said they would lose my business and try did.

This is a fantastic place to find upholstery, drapery and decorator fabrics as well as all of your upholstery accessories. I have shopped at both the National City store and the Vista store and found them both to be excellent. They have largest selection around and everything is top quality. Most of the gorgeous fabrics and accessories I have found here are things I have not found anywhere else, even through special order. They have the largest selection of Sunbrella and other outdoor upholstery fabrics I have ever seen too. The service is always excellent. Everyone is handy and ready to help, answer questions and are very friendly. The prices are unbeatable! The Do-​it-​yourselfer will find everything they need and much more and if you aren’t a DIY, UFO also offers a complete reupholstering service too! UFO is definitely a must see!

Like a kid in a candy store! I had such a blast coming here mostly in part because they had EXACTLY what I was looking for. I bought the fabric for my reupholstered chair and euro pillows here and they both came out beautiful. The employees were very helpful as well and carried the large bolt of fabric out to my car for me. :-) It’s slightly tucked away but that just means it’s not crazy busy when you’re trying to gain inspiration.

Looking for Retro Fabrics you thought were extinct??? This place has got it and everything else you may be looking for in your project. I bought a Classic 1977 GMC Motorhome and the interior had Lime Green tufted drivers seat and Passenger seats. They needed recovering and looked everywhere for this Lime Green fabric to recover them but no luck. I was out camping in this GMC Motorhome at Chula Vista RV Resort and then someone told me to try UFO Fabrics. I did and I just couldn’t believe the rows and rows of fabric bolts that were on hand to view. Low and behold about the 12^th Aisle inside their store there was my LIME GREEN fabric for my RV Chairs. The price per yrd was incredible and bought 8 yrds of it. I highly recommend this place for your re-​upholster projects :). They also have an on-​site re-​upholster shop to do your project estimates.

Wow!!! First time to UFO and I have to say I’ve never seen such an impressive and clean Upholstery shop, Staff was friendly and the store has a huge selection of fabrics. Hands down best fabric store I’ve been to in San Diego, will definitely be back for my next project

I feel like a kid in candy store here. Great selection and location is pretty central. I dock a star because employees are pretty indifferent. They seem efficient but are not very friendly. That could be done better here.

As an avid DIY-​er I’ve been going to UFO for a long time and I love it. They have a wonderful selection of fabrics perfect for upholstery and home uses. They have pretty much everything you need to tackle an upholstery project from pillows, trimmings, nails, supplies, fabrics, foams… ect. I also love that they carry designer fabrics from Dwell Studio and Robert Allen. I haven’t came across a store that has a large selection like this one. They also do custom upholstery there as well (I have never gone to them though for custom projects). This place is a must for DIY-ers…you will be pleased :)

Mind you Upolstery costs adds up so get creative. I use a pricy fabric on one side of a pillow and find a great plain linen for the other side.

Came in for another DIY home project.
They have the largest selection of fabrics that I have ever seen. There is an extensive collection of colors, materials, patterns, etc. They also do reupholstery on-​site.
The prices are comparable to other fabric places and, of course, vary according to the quality of the fabric. There’s a clearance section in the back, left-​hand side of the store.

I wanted to express my appreciation for the good treatment and professionalism I experienced shopping at UFO. The employees were very helpful. Without asking as I was taking some material out to my car an employee brought out the rest of my material. I appreciate the great treatment. Jim T.

UFO in National City on a Saturday was okay.
Getting here was easy. 5 South, Mile or Cars Way exit, Hoover Ave, in the back. The parking arrows lead around the back of the store, where plenty of parking was available.
This store was pretty big inside, nice and cool.
I was thinking outside the box with costumes and backpacks in mind when I arrived here. Alot of upholstery fabrics were hung on roll racks in rows in the main floor. The far side had more books and swatches of material. If you want thick canvas or muslin, this place has it. Vinyl designs, polymer weave screens, heavy, medium and light canvas material can be found on the rolls. The back corner had pre-​cut and leftover cut pieces for sale.
Leather skins were hanging on the side at the restrooms. They appeared and felt and priced really high, but I am no leather skin expert. If I need a large swath of leather, I can find it here.
Rolls of thin foam sheeting, and any thickness of foam cushioning or bed material was available. Memory foam? They got it.
If you want tassels, like bigger than graduation tassels, like bedpost-​size tassels, this places sells them on the near side closest to the entrance, both big and regular-​sized tassels.
The staff was nice. Every few minutes, someone approached me and asked if I was doing okay and if I needed help with anything. I was good, just browsing the store. A helpful staff member helped me find a yard of half-​inch nylon strap and size 18 strength sewing needles, to help me sew through thick canvas and vinyl materials.
I was about to buy a pack of needles as I saw them on the display shelf next to the nylon strap rolls, but the staff member mentioned those needles were for industrial machines. He pulled a home-​version pair of size 18 needles out of the drawer behind the counter. Here you go. Thanks.
The store closes at 5:30pm, so getting here after work is not possilble. I’ll stop by on Saturday again.
UFO, National City. More upholstery than fabrics, but still a good selection, and all that leather on the side. This place is okay.

I went to the Vista store today looking for some fabric to replace my my dog damaged couch cushions, I announced to the store employee that I was no professional and would this be a good choice. He was dismissive sold me the materials, long story short it was not a good choice I returned it within 45 minutes in the same condition as the sale, he explained he would not normally accept any returns and then agreed after I pleaded with him to relieve me of this $ 260 purchase. He then proceeded to charge me 20% to the amount of $ 52 for a re-​rack fee. I am an active duty Marine and have been on near by Camp Pendleton for over 13 years and have not been this disappointed in service and product during my time here. I recommend if good service and and product are what you desire do NOT shop here! If it was possible to give less than one star I would.

I could easily give UFO ⁵⁄₅ stares but I almost always withhold the final star because there is almost always some room for improvement.
Joke: After you visit this place you can tell friends: You saw a UFO, you went inside it and there other «people» inside it.
Reason for visit: Fix Headliner in my car.
This place was recommended by an employee at Yardage Town for a project I had to replace a worn-​out Headliner in my car that was also falling down. I needed fabric that was specifically made for this purpose because it must withstand extreme summer time heat.
Decision to try UFO:
I read the reviews on UFO before going there and I almost avoided it after reading a negative review. I decided to try it because I could not find another place that carried automotive headliners.
Result of visit:
I was pleased with the result. The place is extremely organized and didn’t smell like old cloth the way Yardage town does. I noticed lots of small details that indicate the place is well run and has a kind of maturity that takes years of refining and is often never achieved. I didn’t see dust anywhere. I was greeted and assisted throughout the process. When I asked for tips on how to proceed I was given clear specific advice that matched what I has seen and heard on a you tube video. So employees know there business and common customer applications. You don’t get the zombie deer-​in-​the headlights look of confusion when asking a question.
Opinion:
I called the place before I visited and asked about the situation in the negative review. The 10% max discount was confirmed as standard. IN MY OPINION this place probably deals primarily with businesses and walk-​ins like me probably represent a little extra side cash (or Visa) so they don’t get into lots of price haggling.
Who should go here?
I’m still going to go to Yardage town, Michaels, Joann’s Fabrics, Walmart :(, etc for my normal sewing /​clothing fabric needs. But for upholstery or a car headliner, etc I highly recommend this place. If you are bargain hunting or looking for scraps etc there are probably many other places to get stuff like that.

Wish I didn’t have to give them a star… about two months ago my mother and I went in to find some fabric for some cushions we were having custom made for a kitchen nook. We planned on getting the fabric here and having the cushion made here as well. we have done business with them in the past many times.
However, we looked and looked for fabric that I liked and the only thing I came across with the right color scheme was in the remnant area. It was a large roll so there would have been plenty for our 20 yard project. When the gentleman rolled it out we noticed large areas of imperfections they were nice enough to roll the whole thing out to check the other end and the noticeable imprecations were off and on throughout the whole roll :(.
My mom asked him if they could just sell us the whole thing for a flat price since the whole roll was damaged and she would have to cut it up to use it. The gentleman had to go ask the manager who reluctantly came over to look at the fabric and tell us no the best she could do was 10% off. My mom who is a seamstress said well then, Can we cut the yards out that are good and she said no you have to buy the yards even if they are unusable they will not separate it.
Wth. We were really at odds. We told her we were going to buy the fabric and cushions and have them made here so could she work with us nope she didn’t care.
My mom was convinced that she wasn’t the manager so she walked up front and saw another gentleman and said are u the manger or is the lady the manger and he said well we both are she started to tell him our dilemma and he said oh I already know about this and thats all we can do.
We were trying to tell him what was going on and is there something he can do cause we really wanted to he this fabric.
Next thing you know that guy Is yelling at us saying we don’t need your business. Seriously not the place it used to be and that may be why it’s empty and it’s overpriced.
FYI the guy who does Luche Libre’s upholstery made my custom cushions they are amazing.
If u want better fabric for half the price don’t come here there are plenty of other places in town.
We were loyal to this place because we live in the surrounding area but not anymore. The original management Is obviously gone.

The perfect acronym for these guys. They really are from another planet when it comes to fabric selection and friendly service.
I came in attempting to recreate a pillow from my couch that was lost (don’t ask… it’s a long story) Although I chose not to because it would have cost more than the whole couch is worth itself, I was able to take a gander at the spectacle that is their warehouse on my visit.
Colors, patterns, foams, and textures galore whatever you’re looking for believe me they’ve got it. Whether you need to reupholster some furniture or just pick something up for a DIY project this place is a palace.
