Sweat on my forehead Pork roasting behind counter Delicious fried pork. Skin crackled and crunched with each bite. Delicious flavor of fried pork skin mingled with the delicious pork. Best lechon kawali I’ve found. Wish they had some pancit to go with it. Jasmine rice was moist, had light flavor, and went down smooth. Bbq pork skewer was well marinated but not a big fan of the flavor. Mango drink was really sweet and mangoey. Would have been perfect in a tall glass with lots of ice. Gets hot in here. I wouldn’t eat here during a heat wave as there is no AC. Next time I visit I’ll have to try the roast pork. Faye L. sent me here. Faye is wise. This is her fav lechon kawali spot too.

If your looking for high blood pressure and extra fat on occasions, then this place is for you! The food here is bad for your health but taste so good! If you’re looking for a little cheat day, hit this place up. Chicken skin!!!

The price on their menu for pork sisig is misleading. I got charged 14.83 before tax instead of $ 7. At least the food is good.

Popped in today and tried the Fish Sisig. Wanted try something different and this was perfect. Of course the pork is always going to better but the fish is great and probably a little healthier. Next time I’m in the area I will be trying the BBQ as it looked great.

Sis drove down from OC yesterday. She got her dilis, chic skin, bulaklak & lechon fix today. Everything seems on point. Struck out twice on the tamarind rot. Chicken twice. Do u guys still do those? Seen some new faces behind the counter too. Still love the plain rot. Chicken though.

Was in town and craved Filipino food. National City definitely is the place for it. I know the Chic-Boy brand from the Philippines… This was a disappointment. I asked for things in the menu but few we’re available. The place has 2 small tables. Def not for groups. The girl at the counter needs both a class in customer service and a large dose of caffeine. Look around for better choices.

Okay guys, I really wanted to give this place 5 stars, but I just couldn’t do it. I was very disappointed with our order today. I ordered a tray of lechon manok for a party and what I got was three very dry, very small and WHOLE chickens that were not cut up in a party tray, Just the other day, the lady behind the counter showed me the tray that they were going to put the chicken in and instead they were individually wrapped in containers. My son picked up the order and brought it home, I had to cut the chicken myself. Who has time for that! I have noticed that for the past month, the last three times I’ve ordered the chicken here they were EXTREMELY dry and SMALL. I don’t know if there is new management, a new owner, or a new recipe, but it is not the same chicken that I used to have months ago, maybe even last year. For the price($ 7.49 for a whole chicken) it is totally not worth it. Kind of sad that hardly anyone even touched the chicken at the party. Money wasted. Their service is a hit or miss. Some days you’ll have friendly service and other days you’ll have grouchy service. Oh well, I gave them two stars.

we tried it last month and it was very good and how can extra crispy pork belly not be, but after the 5th bite I had enough and was good for another few years. the wife tried their lechon manok and it was good but the best lechon manok came from an unlikely place a month later. they do need to be a little more with it when it comes to the dipping sauces(vinegar & lechon) and not just offer one. as well as drinks, there was one choice in their fridge and no water option, or it couldve just been our visit. you might get away with it with Filipino customers but what about the non.

So glad my friend and I decided to eat here for dinner. Been a while since I had Filipino food. Luckily we came on time and got the last chicken order of rotisserie and also ordered dilis(thin fried fish). We dined in even though they were about to close in 20mins. The lady that helped us was so nice! She looked and reminded me of my mom. Out of respect we called her auntie and spoke to her in Tagalog. She even gave us extra rice and didn’t rush us to finish our food after they had already closed. Super nice and friendly. If you’re into unhealthy fried chicken/pig skin you will definitely love this place. Try the chicharon bulaklak, dilis, lechon w/mang Tomas sauce and their chicken rotisserie. They also serve breakfast here now too. That’s delish as well. You definitely have to try their longsilog, tocilog, etc.

Im giving this 5 stars for more reasons i can state. Here’s what I like about this place: 1. The food is delicious! I loved the chicharon bulaklak here. It reminds me of the homecooked taste I have become familiar with over the years. I lpve how they clean it good. What I was really sold on was how it stayed crispy from the heatlamp they use to keep it warm and crispy. Other places would normally serve soggy pieces if kept in a container, not an issue here. I love how they did not oversalt it as the light salting helped maintain its flavor. Kudos for not using MSG. Also tried their chicken bbq which had the bbq taste and was more savory than salty unlike other places. Love how they served it with a side of Tomato Cucumber Salsa. No complaints here. 2. Service– The manager Jennifer greeted us woth a smile and even gave us samples of what they had to offer. I love how i had the option of buying half a pound of chicharon bulaklak instead of the pound, which was way too much for me. 3. The Owner– I happened to meet the owner Brian who was actually from out of town and was about to fly back tp SF. He took the time to greet us to make sure everything was ok and he was an approachable person. 4. Environment– Although the dining area is small, the overall decoratipn and design of the place compensates for it. I like the whole laid back island motif of the place. It makes for a peaceful environment for eating there. Overall much better than I thought. I thought it was going to be a stereotypical filipino setting, but I was wrong looking from the inside rather than the outside in.

This place is masarap(delicious)! This place is not like Chic Boy in the Philippines, but the name is definitely an Filam knockoff lol. This place is too tight to relax inside, but definitely will be back for the food!

My mom said the cashier was rude/had a bad attitude. My mom told her that she was going to call me to ask if I wanted anything else aside from the rotisserie. And the lady rolled her eyes and her demeanor changed. Not like she had other customers to tend to, my mom was the only customer in there. I mean, did she NOT want my mom to call me so we can buy more stuff? Only reason i’m giving this place three stars is because there’s no other place around here(that I know of) that sells dilis, chicharon bulaklak and fried chicken skin. The rotisserie chicken is a bit overcooked sometimes.

Management has changed again… I feel like they give way too much rice and less pork sisig. Even the chop of the sisig has changed. It’s now bigger squares instead of the previous minced style. I’m a little disappointed and kind of miss the steamed book choy.

Oh thank you Unilocal for helping me find another great spot close to home! So glad to have tried this place on a date with my hubby! We loved the dilis, kawali pork and tamarind chicken. The LOVELY and beautiful owner Jennifer — was very gracious and told us about each of the items on the menu because were were clueless! We’ve since been back three times for food to go and sharing at potlucks! We hope tons of our neighbors come and visit! Small shop — BIG service and GREAT food! PS: Please bring back the Chicken Inasal! We want to try it!

I’m not a well rounded eater of Filipino cuisine, but this place does my favorites at an exceptional level. Chicken Inasal. Fried Chicken Skin. Lechon. Yes. Yes. Yes. Chicken Inasal is the Filipino answer to Cambodian lemongrass chicken. Flavorful, distinct and aromatic. Often times you think of adobo as the national dish of the PI, but if I had the power to bestow that honor I would choose chicken inasal and this version in particular. Best one I’ve had to date. Really juicy and full of intense and subtle flavors. The fried chicken skin is bad for your health, but wonderful to your taste buds. Crunchy like a potato chip and seasoned just enough to elevate the flavor profile without taking away the natural taste of seasoned chicken skin. I know MJ’s in the south bay has a stronger following, but in terms of cuisine this is stronger. Simple and well-executed. A great idea poorly executed falls short. A simple idea well executed is successful. I anoint this place the best Filipino joint in South San Diego!

I don’t have a lot of experience w/Filipino food. So I don’t usually have alot of material to write about when it comes to food. I was in the area the other day and an office mate and I had some time after a meeting to check out this Filipino strip mall of sorts. It’s a tiny little Filipino take-out place. There were only about 2 tables in there. It reminded me of the fast food section at Sam Woo except 1) not as big; 2) only girls worked here at CB; 3) the glass container contained only meats and seafood and 4) really friendly vibe. The menu was intimidating b/c I honestly had no clue what some of those items were. But one thing caught my eye: FRIEDCHICKENSKIN. — Are you freakin’ kidding me. I literally did a double take b/c I was blissfully shocked. I LOVE fried chicken skin. I held back my excitement as I didn’t know how crispy these thing would be. You would think that I would love chicharrones(fried pork skin) but everytime I’ve tried them, I’ve hated them. So I was trepedatious to order this. Jennifer, one of the girls working there, was so nice. She smiled and offered a sample for me to try. I asked how long they stay crispy and she said about a week. And my goodness, were they crispy. Crackling good crispy. I wish they had more seasoning on them but I was quite happy to have finally found a place that sells these things. I’ve tried many times to fry chicken skin at home and it’s such a pain. Totally not worth it in my opinion. We ordered(to-go): Crispy Dilis $ 8.99/lb(fried sardines): — Did I like it? Not really. It was fried nicely. Super crispy. But it had a very fishy taste to it. Jennifer noticed my facial reaction and she said ‘hey, we make a fried sweet version of that one’. And she promptly got me a sample. It was fried just as nicely and it did taste sugary sweet BUT it still tasted fishy to me(not that the fish was old or not fresh — just that sardines in general are pretty fishy to the smell and taste I believe). — Lechon Liempo $ 8.99/lb Folks, this is the real deal. This was even better than stupid Sam Woo who’s roast pork tends to be dry and skin not crispy(and let’s not forget the horrible service you get at SW fast food section). The pork skin at Chic-Boy was crispy and stayed crispy until the evening we ate it. If you’re scared of fat, oh well. You can easily separate the fat from the meat and skin though. You can see that some of the meat pieces were darker than others — I feared those pieces would be dry but surprisingly, it wasn’t. And you know what else makes them stand apart from other places(yeah I’m talking about you Sam Woo)…they offer you plenty of dipping/side sauce. They don’t just give you one itsy bitsy container of sauce. They have an amazing vinegar sauce that I fell in love with. — Pork sisig $ 6.99/lb This is the roast pork cut into pieces and marinated in lime, green onion, spices and onions. The pork skin obviously will not be crispy b/c of the lime. I bought a small portion to try it for dinner that night. And you know what, it was pretty good. The pork was tender. It had a wonderful smell and taste to it. Almost refreshing I want to say. The only problem here is the pork fat — once you refrigerate it, the fat gets hard and cold. So I guess you have to heat this dish up somehow. Jen said that alot of people buy their pork sisig and use it in their tacos — perhaps this might be the answer to my quest to find the most awesome tacos al pastor. Brilliant. Overall, I really enjoyed the food. The lechon still tasted great the next morning. And my bag of fried chicken skin is still crispy. I would come back again and also possibly use them to cater a dinner party as well. I’m patting myself on the back for finally writing my first post about Filipino food. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be :)

«Short and Sweet» Monday is $ 1 off a whole chicken Different types of chicken to select from Lechon Kawali Pork /Chicken BBQ sticks Yummy and tasty… The lady that works here is also very nice and explained to me the different types of dishes available. Why Three Stars? Because there’s a lot of filipino restaurants out there that serves the same dishes. Nothing really different but I’m going to try it out again.
