Specialties

Mammy’s Cupboard sandwiches are served on homemade bread and are served with potato salad and a cup of soup. The Chicken Salad and Reuben Sandwiches are our most popular. We also serve Roast beef, Turkey, Ham and Swiss and Peanut Butter and jelly. We serve a Hot Special everyday as well. Our Homemade dessert are Chocolate Meringue, Coconut Meringue and Lemon Meringue. We have delicious Banana Caramel Pie, Chocolate

Ice Box and Lemon Ice Box pies. If Cake is you fancy we have Italian Crème Cake and Hummingbird Cake. Don’t forget to try our Blueberry Lemonade.

History

Established in 1994.

Mammy’s Cupboard was built by Henry Gaude’ in 1940 and is still owned by the Gaude’ family. It is one of a few commercial architectural designs from that era still standing and operating as a business.

The «Cupboard» stands as a much loved landmark on Highway 61 south of Natchez, Mississippi and is visited by local citizens and travelers from all parts of the world.

In the past, the Cupboard has been a gas station, restaurant, gift shop and craft center. Doris Kemp opened Mammy’s in 1994 and the restaurant is now operated by the Martin Family.

Lunch is served at the Cupboard from 11 til about 2, Tuesday thru Saturday,

with a daily lunch special of home cooked food, gourmet sandwiches on homemade bread and delicious homemade desserts.

Went recently with the whole family plus in-​laws so we pretty much had a wide variety of items from the menu. Sandwiches are made with good quality meats, cheeses and breads; any of them would be a solid choice. The standouts were the blueberry lemonade and the pies… oh, the pies!
Great deep south roadside attraction, good food, good service.

Wednesday is our favorite time to go the special of the day is Rosemary Chicken along with the Blueberry Lemonade and you have to finish it off with the Banana Carmel Pie!

I was not impressed and being nice by giving 3 stars! Saw the Chicken Pot Pie online and decided to try the restaurant because the photo looked so good. Beware they only accept cash but was very accommodating to those that were not prepared. Thank goodness we were okay with that issue. Also, the Unilocal directions took us to a completely different location so we called to get clarification. Found out that the directions provided by Unilocal are inaccurate but when we asked about the staff getting them corrected we were told that it would cost $ 150 to get them changed and they did not want to spend the money fixing that item. (Okay so don’t help your customers) We went on a Tuesday for lunch and once there saw the menu that said daily specials which had the chicken pot pie only on Fridays. Bummed out we glanced over the other items and finally decided on the chicken salad sandwich which came with a cup of vegetable beef soup and a small scoop of potato salad. The best part of the sandwich was the bread which I believe is homemade. The chicken salad was bland but the potato salad was pretty good. The vegetable beef soup should not have «beef» in the title because the minute piece of beef we had was the size of half a dime and there was only one in the whole cup. The restaurant is dated and loses its appeal once the food is not up to par. We were told the pie is really great but we opted to leave that a mystery.

If you’re in the neighborhood and want a good home cooked meal this is it. I had the chicken and rice special on Wednesday. Everything was delicious. The meal came out in a flash. For desert I had the Banana cream Carmel and the lemon meringue pie. They are so accommodating they will let you get half slices of pie. Great food, quaint atmosphere, and good wait staff. Eat here! One word of caution. They are cash only.

If you are a lover of the kitschy roadside Americana (and I am) that is all too fast dying out, Mammy’s Cupboard is a must visit. If nothing else, I always try to support these types of places, as once they are gone they seldom return. It’s got to be harder (& relatively more expensive) running a small place like this than a brand new fast food franchise. For that reason alone I’ve given them a bonus star.
The food selection is limited but it was very good «home style» cooking.
Staff were very friendly & the entrance area gives a bit of the history of the place. Will definitely return if back in the area!

Small selection, but I really enjoyed my chicken pot pie. Overall a bit pricey for the area, probably because it is touristy (is it shaped like Mammy and you dine in her skirt!). The salad that came with pie I could do without (personal preference — others I was with loved it — I just personally hate sour cream and couldn’t believe how much «stuff’ there was on top of the salad). The sandwiches just looked okay, so I’m glad that I went with the pot pie (Friday special).
The lemonade that they are famous for is definitely on the sweet side, so if you have a sweet tooth, this would be your thing.
For pie, we had the lemon ice box, which was covered in a lot of icing. I think I would have preferred the lemon meringue pie.
I definitely enjoyed seeing and experiencing Mammy’s, and enjoyed my pot pie, but the rest of it was just okay to me. I know that others I was with come here all the time and really enjoy it, so check it out for yourself and decide!

You MUST stop here! Dining under the skirt of this amazing historical architecture will bring you right back to Grandma’s kitchen. The homemade Lemon Meringue Pie was the best by far… I didn’t try but judging by all the rave about the Blueberry Lemonade I should have given that a try too. well I guess this just means another road trip in the future back to MAMMY’S. Fun place to go, olé south kitsch and home cooking. Nothing fancy but everything is good. We had chicken salad sandwiches with vegetable soup. The bread is homemade and awesome. Banana caramel pie is a must!

I’ve lived in Natchez for close to a year now and have not gone to eat here until today. I can honestly say it was one of the best lunches i have ever had. I had Rosemary Chicken. It was so absolutely delicious and the side salad was great too. It had a very tangy, spicy dressing. Chicken was tender and delicious. I had the banana caramel pie for dessert just because the server brought it to the table just for us to look at and i couldnt pass it up so i ordered a piece of that too. I dont think you can go wrong by ordering anything in this cute little place. Their blueberry lemonade is to die for so order that too. Also, everyone was so friendly and seemed happy to be working there. They have a little gift shop too with cute little knick knacks and stuff. Thank you Mammy’s Cupboard for such an enjoyable experience.

I have lived in Shreveport, Baton Rouge, Natchez, Memphis and Chicago and this is one of my favorite lunch spots. My personal favorite sandwiches are the Reuben and turkey. My favorite special is the red beans and rice. Bring cash because no credit cards accepted. Also, call ahead if you are planning a trip because they do take a couple of weeks if vacation per year. Save room for dessert & if you see your favorite make sure you tell your server so they do not sell out of your pick!

A must-​see in Natchez, Mammy’s Cupboard was built in the 1940s, presumably when funky roadside buildings were the rage to lure travelers in for food/​lodging. They serve lunch from 11am-​2pm Monday thru Sat and take cash or check only — no credit cards.
The roasted turkey sandwich was delicious and served with a side of vegetable beef soup. The real standout at Mammy’s are their pies! So amazing! Several types of Meringue pies — including lemon, coconut and chocolate and also ice box pies as well. We had the lemon ice box pie and it was really good, but the best one had to be the banana caramel pie. So delicious!!!
Definitely a fun stop on a road trip and an iconic building, but don’t expect gourmet eats.

If you visit Natchez without stopping in at Mammy’s, you’re committing a cardinal sin. Eating here is like stepping back in time, to another era. How often do you have the opportunity to eat in the skirt of a 28-​foot-​high statue of MAMMY?!! Don’t get me started.
They serve up delicious soups & wonderful sandwiches. And don’t forget to order some of their fabulous banana caramel pie. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!
So you can go on a diet some other day.
