Specialties
The Bar Method is a one-hour total body workout barre class comprised of muscle strengthening and stretching techniques partially performed at the ballet barre, strategically choreographed and executed to music. The system is designed to quickly and safely create a uniquely lean, firm body featuring sculpted arms, flat abs, a lifted seat, elongated thighs and graceful posture. The Bar Method combines the fat burning format of interval training, the muscle-shaping principles of isometrics, the body-elongating practice of dance conditioning, and the science of physical therapy.
The Bar Method Nashville is a warm, friendly community of instructors and clients committed to changing our bodies and lives. Our clients especially appreciate the individual attention received in and out of the exercise room, incorporating the Bar Method into their lifestyle.
We are conveniently located at 4301 Harding Pike in the Belle Meade neighborhood, behind the old Belle Meade Theater and Harris Teeter. Our studio offers a boutique, spa-like environment. Rich neutrals are accented with a striking turquoise, dark wood and slate, white marble counters, and modern glass light fixtures.
We have one spacious exercise studio with an abundance of natural light, a spa-like locker room, and a retail area with Bar Method branded merchandise, select lifestyle brands, and bottled water.
We are open 7 days a week and offer mixed, Level 1 and Level 2 classes throughout the day.
History
Established in 2000.
Burr Leonard, a former journalist, has been practicing and improving on the exercises that now make up The Bar Method exercise system since 1991. Burr had been an avid Lotte Berk Method student since 1981 and had been teaching since 1991 when she was The Lotte Berk Method’s sole licensee. In 1991 Burr and Carl Diehl, a lawyer, opened their first exercise studio in Greenwich, Connecticut. In 2000 they founded The Bar Method, Inc. and the next year opened their flagship studio in San Francisco.
Owner, Carrie Ward, started teaching in the downtown San Francisco studio in 2010, and moved to Nashville to open the first Bar Method in Tennessee in 2011.
