Dury’s

I’ve been to durys probably about 5 times now. The store is nice and clean and the selection and variety of products is pretty good. Overall it’s a nice place. I will say that some of their items can be bought cheaper elsewhere, but this is only about 50% of the time, so do some research before you buy. What’s kinda good about durys are the professionals helping you out at the store. They usually know a lot and they wanna help you out. My only issues with this store really are that I’ve never been greeted or received a farewell and the employees never really smile, seem happy to be there, or even seem happy to be helping me. On top of that I think I’ve been asked if I needed help only once. It’s just kinda a downer to be there and feel like my business isn’t appreciated. I’ll defintely be going back in the future if I need to pick something up fast but hopefully I’m at least greeted with a smile next time.

All of my photographer friends rave about how great this place is so I was definitely thrown off when I was received so poorly. I’m an amateur photographer and was seeking advice/​ready to pay for fixes that may need to be done on my 3 cameras.
I came to get 2 of my SLR’s checked out because they’re a bit older (inherited from my grandmother), advice/​fix for a newer Nikon that has an eyelash in stuck somewhere in the viewfinder, and to get some film developed. The two men I interacted with both seem irritated that I was there asking for help and were condescending in tone. There were maybe 3 other customers in the entire store and a least 4 or 5 employees, so I wasn’t under the impression they were swamped. (Not like that’s an excuse to be unfriendly.)
I will obviously be back to pick up the film I dropped off and am hoping to have a better experience on a different day!

Went in there today with the intention of buying a new backdrop and looking at lenses right before a shoot. When I inquired about an eyepiece price I knew what I was looking at I was looking for a price because there wasn’t one on it. The older guy I asked tried to tell me which camera is for (stating it was for a bigger camera, which I knew). he said it kinda snooty. Like I was stupid. I didn’t bother getting it and just went onto Amazon instead. Their prices on backdrops also went up. Won’t be back.

I’ve been a customer of Dury’s for 21 years now and I’m so glad this place and survived the digital purge that has taken out other photographic businesses. Everything you need as a photographer is there or can be ordered for you!

My favorite photo place! They will do online price match and they have replaced anything product that had malfunctioned!

As others have mentioned, the staff isn’t very friendly or attentive. I have purchased 3 items from this store: 2 canon lenses and a remote shutter release. All 3 of those times I visited, I had to ask someone to help me.
When I purchased the shutter release, I needed their opinion because I wasn’t sure which kind to get for my camera. The associate who was helping me seemed like he didn’t know anything about the product. After he read through all the features (verbatim as they were listed on the back of the box), I asked if it would function with my camera model, and he had to go ask another employee.
On my last visit to the store, I noticed that they sell used camera bodies, and I saw a Canon 50D on the shelf for sale. I told an associate I had a 50D I needed to get rid of and asked how much he would buy it for. He said, «I would never buy a 50D» in a really snooty tone.
This store is good when I need equipment in a pinch or when I have procrastinated, but I think I’ll stick to ordering my products online whenever possible.

Yes, they have stuff, a good selection. And they’ve done a good job developing my C41 process film (note: they do not do BW Negative film, but most places don’t these days). They have a small selection of film to buy as well.
Here’s why only 2 stars. The customer service. They are friendly enough, but on multiple occasions they have flat out ignored me. Once I went to pick up my developed film and I stood there for 10 minutes looking directly at every employee I saw, but they ignored me until I walked up to someone and said «Could I pick up my developed film and negatives please?» 5 minutes later they helped me. The store was not busy at all. Second time I went in just to buy some 35 mm film. I went in and got the film I wanted and waited in the line with only one person ahead of me. He already paid and the clerk was just talking to him. Checking out his camera and such. The clerk looked directly at me and continued to hang out with his friend while I waited. I stood there for so long while he peered through his pal’s viewfinder and talked shop that I had to put the film back and leave. He could’ve continued his conversation while checking me out, I wouldn’t have minded, but he didn’t care. And thats what this place is like honestly. I will just go to PSU for my film needs from now on. Or shop online. Note: I’m not an impatient customer by any means, but it just seems like they don’t care about you or your time.

Great camera store with a good inventory. That’s why they get 2 stars from me. If it were based solely on their customer support and friendliness they would have none. I have been in the store at least six times and never once has an employee stopped and spoke to me or greeted me. I’ve always had to solicit assistance. I’m not sure if it’s a boys club or they’re just too busy to be nice to their customers. But I wont go in there anymore unless I absolutely need something that I can’t get online.

Love these guys, their attitude and how easy they are to work with. I recently had a very dirty sensor and a lens I thought was broken – it wasn’t, just the filter was shattered and smashed onto the lens – and I showed up one Monday morning, they took it right from me, worked their magic, and gave it back to me like new. They also cleaned my other equipment in my bag for no added charge. And the price was more than reasonable. Not to mention, Mark called me from his cell at home to let me know when I could come pick up my equipment. You can’t beat that kind of service!
Dury’s also has a good inventory of camera equipment, new and pre-​owned. You better believe I’ll be going back there before buying another body or lens via Amazon. (Shop local when you can!)

My favorite camera store in Nashville. The crew at Dury’s is friendly and Professional. Dury’s is a full service camera store that can meet all your photographic, lighting, and video production needs.

DURY’S is a must when your in the Nashville area!!! The local camera store is very hard to find these days. While traveling the country for business across six states DURY’S was the only camera place still in business that actually have knowledgeable sales people and equipment on hand. Nick took the time to talk with me assess my needs and make great suggestions, ultimately I decided on the Nikon 50 mm 1.8G for my Nikon D5200. I am by no means a pro but the Nick at DURY’S made me feel like one!

I had a few wedding pictures printed to give as Christmas gifts and couldn’t be more pleased! It was really easy to upload the pictures online, choose the finish and picture size.
In our case, we had to crop some of the image out (HUGE bummer) but I’m glad we had the option to choose how each image was clipped. This is a feature you won’t see at places like Walgreens and, trust me, it’s REALLY necessary!
The job was done very quickly and the quality is great — 2 thumbs way up! I won’t print pictures anywhere else.
For 6 4x6s and 6 8×10s, all matte finish we paid $ 34 including tax.

I am writing this review as someone who used Dury’s repair services, not as someone shopping for equipment. With that in mind, here’s what my experience was.
I walked in and was greeted by someone fairly quickly. We discussed the issues I was having with my camera, a high-​end Canon P&S. I am not a professional photographer and felt slightly patronized by the employee’s correction of some of my terminology, but he was overall helpful and took my camera along with the $ 20 payment for getting a quote. He said it would take 7 – 10 days to get the quote, then 7 – 10 days for the repair, and then 7 – 10 days to get the camera back to me.
I watched my phone for a week, waiting for a call with the quote. Instead, it came via snail mail, which seemed an odd choice, about 8 days later. There was no explanation of the type of repair that would be done, just a quote of $ 204. I called Dury’s to get more details, only to be told that the manufacturer did not disassemble the camera until the repair had been paid for so the estimate was based on my reports only. Therefore there was no more information available on what was wrong with the camera than there had been 8 days ago.
Which made me wonder what the heck I’d been waiting 8 days for. If Canon wasn’t going to actually take apart my camera, why couldn’t Dury’s call or email them to report my problems, and get a quote more quickly? Why doesn’t Canon supply their authorized repair locations with a chart containing these estimates to be quoted on site? I can only guess that it is for the sake of the $ 20 fee.
I said that in that case I would not repair the camera, and the man on the phone said that Dury’s would inform me when it was back in their shop. Again, by letter.
This insistence on using snail mail as their form of connecting with the customer (and, possibly, the manufacturer!) felt extremely outdated and inefficient. Although I’m a fan of older technology (film photography, reading actual paper books, etc – and hey, just being willing to consider repairing a device rather than immediately buying a new one makes me somewhat old-​fashioned) I could hardly have been more surprised if Dury’s had chosen to deliver my quote via pony express. Though some of this inefficiency may be the fault of the manufacturer, in combination with their indifferent customer service it made for a very negative impression. I may try them for film developing, but I won’t be back with any future repair issues.

I think I was expecting too much of Dury’s. I grew up walking distance to B&H and Adorama, and they just didn’t stand up. The selection online is huge, but in-​store it’s kind of limited. I was just browsing but had about 10 things in mind that I could have bought if I came across them at the right price. The stuff I saw that I might have bought seemed a bit overpriced, and the rest was behind glass with nobody offering to help.
It’s great that they’re still developing film and selling all kinds of cool equipment, I just wasn’t blown away. If you aren’t going to go out of your way to help customers, and you aren’t going to come close to internet prices, I don’t know who you’re serving.

The local we have «experienced photographers and equipment» for you store. Dury’s has knowledge and a great stock of gear and if they do not have it they will get it and they do so with efficiency.
Good people work here they are able to go from talking about the coolpix that my mom was looking at to the x100 fuji and the new canon 1dx, and some lighting techniques that just blew me away.
Shop here it’s local and the people are top notch, they put customer service very high on the list, and lets be honest something is really fun about going to a brick and mortar shop and touching the gear before you buy.

Knowledgeable staff, and a good place to do business. It’s good to see them doing a successful business and keep things going in our local business scene… they have a good inventory and fair prices, as well as great prices on mounting /​framing!

In my humble opinion this is what a photography store should be. The staff is helpful and the selection of items is wonderful. In addition, their prices, unlike some B&Ms are competitive with online prices, with many items, but others you should know the online price before you go…

When it comes to filling photographic needs, Dury’s is to Nashville what B&H Photo is to mail order. If they don’t have it, they can get it. If you have questions, they can answer them. Great place. Great selection. Great people.
Good place to just go and hang out browsing the aisles for a bit if you need to recharge your photographic «batteries» and get re-​inspired or just to learn what else is available.

Dury’s is THE place to go for photography supplies. Forget all those crappy chain stores like Wolf Camera (ugh Wolf Camera). You can find everything you need here in greater selection and with more reputable and knowledgeable people selling it to you.
They stock darkroom equipment and all the supplies that go along with owning a darkroom. You can’t find a lot of options for those items really anymore since the digital revolution. I still shoot film and have a crude darkroom set up so I love being able to buy things I need in a store instead of strictly on line. They’re also the only people in town I trust to develop my film when I shoot color.
They even sell cameras in all varieties and price ranges and you can go there expecting to get an honest deal. You don’t have to worry about somebody trying to sell you a camera because they make extra money of it instead of selling you the camera that is right for you. Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you’re not as informed as you’d like to be, they will steer you in the right direction.

Dury’s is the place to go if you want to buy old-​fashioned film or photographic paper. They still have 120, 220 and 4×5 film in color negative, positive and B & W. It’s nice to know that you can still find the supplies to do art photography. I haven’t been since the dissolution of Polaroid, so I don’t know if they still have any Polaroid supplies, but if you still want to buy them, my guess would be to start here.
They also have a huge amount of darkroom and lighting supplies, although like everywhere else, they have mostly gone digital. They used to have entire rows of film processing chemicals and they still do have the basics, which is nice to know you don’t have to order everything on the Internet. The cameras are mostly digital too, but there are some good deals to be found here on camera equipment.
The staff are really nice and will be honest with you about how much you should spend for what your photographic needs are. They won’t just try to sell you the most expensive camera, and they also do a student discount of about ten percent, I believe.
Dury’s will still process 35 mm and medium format film. I’ve had rolls of 120 processed there recently and they’ll give you the best of both worlds by giving you a contact sheet and putting your images on CD too. There are a variety of digital and film services available here that you’ll have a hard time finding anywhere else in town.
