Courtyard By Marriott-Vanderbilt/West End

Bedding and bed are poor, did not clean room daily, shower shrieks, keys never work, good location, however will not be back or recommend staying here.

Decent hotel in a great location near Vanderbilt. Free shuttle service in a three mile radius, which will get you downtown. Lisa at the reception desk is a wealth of knowledge and will always steer you in the right direction.

This is a Courtyard by Marriott. In terms of rooms, bath fixtures, toiletries etc, don’t expect the Ritz or JW Marriott, it is what it is – comfortable, clean, predictable and having the amenities that one would expect.
There are two things that really make this Marriott stand out.
1. The concierge staff at the Front is spectacular. We interacted a fair amount with Gary, Lisa, and Keith. All three were incredibly helpful and really seemed to take joy in trying to make our stay the best we could possibly have, including engaging with the kids, advice on places to see, eat, and driving directions on how to get there – I know in an age of Google Maps and Waze the last part seems less important, but Nashville as of this writing has a lot of construction related road closures on weekends, and their advice really made our lives easier. Really friendly folks that made the stay better.
2. The location is great. A short walk from Vanderbilt and Centennial park, and easily walking distance 20 – 25 min — or a shuttle ride– to the bright lights of Broadway and the honky tonks. There are also a number of great places to eat a short walk from the hotel.
If you are a single traveler looking for a place with a great onsite restaurant or swanky bar, there are other places that might fit your needs better. If you are the type that does not mind venturing out a bit to enjoy the city around you, this is a great base of operations.

Worst breakfast buffet, nasty bacon, sausage, cold hard eggs benedict, waited 45 mins for fresh to be brought out, was still terrible

I haven’t been disappointed by a Marriott yet, and this spot is included. The room was great, the pool was wonderful and the staff was top-​notch. I was hoping for a room with a balcony, and didn’t get one when I got there. After calling and asking for one, they immediately moved me to a room that had one. And, they were incredibly nice and accommodating when I asked.
One small detail I really appreciated was the bathroom. The shower was great and felt like home. Also, the hair dryer was full size instead of one of those little, crappy hotel hair dryers.

My husband & I stayed here, we travel for a living so we stay at a lot of these hotel’s, we have 2 Vehicle’s so when we pulled in, it was tight, also a construction crew was parked out there and inside having lunch, while we took out luggage and went to drop off one car cane back to lobby and get the other Vehicle the manger was there looking for us, to yell at me and tell me it was there busiest time of day, between 1 & 3 and get our 2013 Chevy 3500 out of there!!! He spit on my lip, and was so rude we will never stay there again!

I’m a business traveller who stays in the road 40−50% of the time.
I love driving arriving at the Vanderbilt Courtyard to the valet who knows my name after 3 stays. Then, walking in to meet Gary at the front desk, who greets me like I’ve been coming there for 10 years. To top it all off there is a shuttle that takes you anywhere you need to go; dining, night life.
I frequent many hotels on a regular basis, but none compare to the impeccable service I receive at the Vanderbilt Courtyard!

Before booking a trip to Nashville, I took a look at the downtown hotel prices and about fainted, seriously $ 350+ night. When I looked on Marriott’s site and found this hotel priced at $ 239, which was still more than I wanted to pay, however the same hotel was listed on
for $ 179 which was far more appealing than the $ 239 rate by booking directly with Marriott. When booking with an external site other than Marriott you do not get credit towards your Marriott Rewards, but thanks to Marriott’s Look No Further Best Rate Guarantee, I was able book the room at the same rate as it was going for on
($ 179), and to make the deal even sweeter Marriott even knocked the price down by another 25% bringing down my nightly rate to just under $ 135/​night! Seriously a little homework saved me over $ 200 over my stay!
When I first arrived I headed right to the garage, which was a mistake because access to the garage and hotel you will first need your room key. Luckily they were able to buzz me in without having me go back to the main lobby first. The garage elevators are actually shared with Tower 2, with additional rooms above the parking garage. Once inside you will have a short walk down the corridor to the lobby. The check-​in process was super easy and thanks to an early check in with the Marriott app my room keys were all set as soon as I arrived. The lobby itself is large and shared space with an attached café and tons of seating, there is also a more private seating area with a TV alongside the Tower 1 elevators.
My room was large and spacious and very comfortable with more than enough space to unpack and not worry about being cramped. The bathroom was large with a nice shower. The toiletries provided were basic, however they were Paul Mitchell branded which would have come in handy if I had forgot any of my items. The bed was comfortable, however it wasn’t as firm as I had hoped but it still provided an enjoyable night’s sleep. One major plus was the curtains closed sealing out almost every trace of daylight, which was great when I wanted to sleep in! Internet was free and decent, however it was a little tricky to get going at first as the landing page timed out, but ended up connecting you without the confirmation, however this was only a one time occurrence during my stay so it wasn’t a problem.
Now as far as the hotel itself, its located closer to Vanderbilt University, and only a short Über ride to the bars and venues along Music Row. However there are more than enough options around the hotel to keep you busy. Places like Hattie B’s Hot Chicken, The Row, Brewhouse, Cookout, Winners & Losers, and more. I forgot to mention that parking is $ 26/​day, however you are within walking distance to a wide variety of restaurants and bars, and a short Über/​taxi ride downtown. So this slight increase will still help you save a considerable amount over a downtown hotel. Overall I was pleased with the value and service I received will staying at the hotel, and would recommend it anyone visiting Nashville.

Great place to stay! Convenient location with great shuttle service. AGM Keith M. is AWESOME! He went out of his way to make our stay extra special. All hotel staff are great from the management to the shuttle drivers to the cleaning staff. Stay here –you won’t regret it!

I am annoyed. This place seems a bit… Overwhelmed. Not a fan of their customer service. Very patronizing and not solution-​oriented when it comes to questions. Will update after my stay but right now, not a fan.

Room is pricey but comparable to the other ones nearby. They charge you 16.00 dollars a day to park your vehicle. They have a free courtesy van to downtown till 10:45pm. Rooms are nice & clean. The free wifi sucks! & they want to charge for high speed which is crazy. Over priced & they charge for all the things that should be included for no extra.

My friend booked three regular rooms and a suite for my bachelorette party and bridal shower. We were staying Friday and Saturday nights. Friday mid morning, my friend checked in to all the rooms. She let the lady at the front desk know that the rest of the guests would be flying in and arriving at various times throughout the afternoon. The lady said all they had to do was give my friend’s name and they’d be fine. My friend was unable to stay all day at the hotel as she had setup for the party to complete.
The first guest attempted to check in and used my friend’s name and was not allowed in to her room. My freon was called to verify this person could be added. At this time, my friend explained the situation and asked of she could give the names of everyone else who would be staying in the rooms since just giving her name as we were told to do was not sufficient. So she did that.
Lo and behold, every guest that tried to check in was denied. Every time someone checked in it was a different story.
The kicker was that one guest had to put down her credit card and was told it was just for a hold on the room. This is strange because my first friend had already given her card and was told to put all the rooms on it. Upon checkout, they charged that whole room to the guest and not my friend. It was an extremely awkward situation and I went to the desk with her to explain that we need the room on my friend’s card instead. They refused to change it and made one of my shower guests pay on her own.
I was visibly upset and explained that I was frustrated with every interaction I had with the staff throughout the weekend. I never got any apology or acknowledgment that there was a miscommunication.
This hotel is fine for when you’re a family checking in to one room. But I would never trust them wither a group event.
I am in the midst of booking blocks of hotel rooms for my wedding guests and after this experience will take my business elsewhere. Bad customer service is a dealbrealer for me.

Decent location, but there was construction going on in the hotel and in the nearby area making it somewhat difficult to sleep at night. They do provide you with earplugs and a noise machine (if you request one), but for my super quick trip to Nashville, I just powered through it. They staff was super help and there are great amenities at the hotel. No room service made this tired traveler a little more weary, but it’s not the end of the world.

I know Courtyard Marriott’s are midrange hotels, so I’m not looking at it like it’s a Ritz Carlton. I’m a seasoned business traveler and know what I’m getting into.
This is a great location as there are tons of restaurants and bars around. This property looked to be newly renovated and smelled new. We arrived earlier than anticipated (around 11:30 am) and were only expecting to be able to have them hold our luggage, but they found an open room for us and let us in (Service Bonus #1).
The menu button on our remote wasn’t working and the housekeeper was in the room across the hall and switched ours with an empty room, saying she would later replace the bad one for them (Service Bonus #2). Unfortunately, it wasn’t the remote, but the TV (it basically had to be pinged by the server). I made a call to the front desk and they sent up Engineering, who said he knew the person who stayed the previous night had TV issues and was waiting for him to checkout before he fixed it, but because the front desk gave us the room, he hadn’t had a chance. In exchange for the nuisance, he gave us free movies for the day (Service Bonus #3) and a coupon for a free appetizer (Service Bonus #4).
We ate around the corner at the Tavern, which is crazy good (review pending), and came back to the staff welcoming us by name (Service Bonus #5). Before leaving for dinner, I checked on the availability of a cab and they said the shuttle offers free rides within 3 miles (Service Bonus #6).
The next day, my wife went out for a run and they recommended a 4-​mile loop that took her through Vanderbilt and she said it was an awesome recommendation (Service Bonus #7), even though she got hit by and old guy in a car… not Marriott’s fault. During that time, I went to the gym and saw all the equipment was new and the room was spacious, probably 25′ x 50′. All the cardio equipment had individual TVs and one large one hung on the wall.
Afterwards, I went to the Bistro to get us a few yogurts and waters, but they had closed 10 minutes prior. I didn’t realize this and waited for about 60 seconds until somebody showed up. She apologized profusely for not realizing I was there and said they were closed, but was able to ring up my water and then said the yogurts were on the house (Service Bonus #8).
Finally, I called for a wakeup call and asked if he could make sure there was a cab available at 4:15 a.m. for us. True to form, we got our call and the cab was waiting when we came downstairs (Service Bonus #9).
For those of you keeping track, that’s nine… NINE unique service items that the staff went out of their way to do. You may think those are small things, but in this world where so many people don’t even lift a finger to help, an experience like this makes you happy you spent your dollars where you did.

We stayed here for one night. The rooms were fine, the beds were comfy, and everything was clean, but man were those shampoo and conditioner bottles tiny! Like doll-​house tiny.
They charged us $ 20 including tax for self-​parking in the garage, which was a little annoying.
Overall, it suited our needs on our trip.

This hotel has it’s pros and cons, which I believe the overall pros pushed it slightly from 3 stars to 4.
The people who work here are very nice, from the front desk to the people cleaning the rooms and providing service throughout the hotel. I needed additional shampoo and conditioner one day because I love to swim and the cleaning lady remembered and kept me stocked through the week.
I love swimming, so my boyfriend picked the hotel based on the outdoor pool. It was quite relaxing and refreshing when we had a chance to go. I didn’t get a chance to use the gym, but it looked nice. I usually love those two amenities the most.
The room was typical of other Courtyards I’ve stayed in, but the bed was beyond hard. I ended up with back and shoulder pains every morning. With the millions they spent on the renovations, that should have been key. The best part is the good night sleep away from home, yet I never got it.
Other issues were the TV had reception issues, static and channels going out and there was no microwave in the room. The TV had basic cable and no movies for rental which almost every hotel has these days.
Then the room key issue, the room keys would deprogram and we would have to go to the front desk. The garage key wouldn’t work, so we would have to get buzzed in and then the elevators wouldn’t work. Although I never keep the key near my phone and know better, this happened at least 3 times.
The best part was the location, the area has lots of great restaurants and bars in the area. We found a lot of places nearby and within walking distance, which made for some fun nights out.

Courtyard Marriott did not leave much of an impression on me. First off, I hate staying in hotels. I hate staying anywhere but in my own bed. Usually every hotel has a funky smell. Courtyard did not. I have to say that our hotel room was fresh and clean when we arrived, and I loved the pillows and the feel of the mattress to lay on. This was huge for me. The best translation of what my own bed is like at home.
The staff was helpful. I needed shampoo and the front desk was all too willing to accommodate. I had a chance to meet the chambermaids, and they were just as polite. I happened to catch them before they were about to tidy our room and I told them to leave it alone. I have had their job, and it makes no sense that they should have to make my bed for me while I stay there. My friend wasn’t around when I talked to them so when we got back from our Nashville adventure he looked upset. I explained but he still seemed a little irritated. In a way, it made me more happy because I don’t like it when men think things like this should be done for them at all. Even if they are on vacation. I kept my amusement to myself. I also don’t want people I don’t know around my things. Even if they aren’t important, I don’t want anyone to invade my space and so much as move a bag in order to make my bed. I’m glad I was there to stop them. My friend just wanted to jump into his bed like Superman. Apparently you cannot do this on a messed up bed.
My only complaint about the hotel would be the bar. They charged and exorbitant amount, $ 11, for a shot of Grand Marnier to be tossed into my margarita. The mix they used was terrible, and the liqueur makes it taste better. We also tried to order an amaretto stone sour (my childish travel partner likes fruity drinks), and they didn’t even have the right liquor to mix it. As far as I knew an amaretto stone sour was a pretty common drink. The bartenders themselves were sweet; but they couldn’t mix drinks at all. They couldn’t even improvise well when it came down to trying to make up for what their bar lacked. In my opinion, if you’re going to charge $ 11 for a shot of liqueur at all; then you better have the kind of bar equipped to handle all requests. Including mixologists.

It’s a small mini fridge, but it can hold a good number of drinks, but a takeout container would probably take up an entire row. What’s cool, though, is that there’re 2 buttons on the fridge: 1) Quick Chill — cools contents faster for 2 hours, and 2) Snooze — essentially turns off the fridge so you can sleep easier (the sound is hardly noticeable though).
** Good # of outlets
I probably only mention this because I had to rearrange furniture in the last Courtyard to find some. The lights on each side of the bed have an outlet, and there’re 2 open outlets behind the couch. The rest are where you’d expect them to be.
** Balcony with seats
If you don’t mind peering eyes (in the CONS section), my room overlooked the courtyard and West End. Has 2 seats and a small table, perfect for drinks.
** On premise Starbucks
I think it’s only open during the daytime, though.

** Valet Parking is expensive & required.
$ 22 a day! At least you can have them pull your car out at any time of the day, 24 hours.
** North Tower 2 rooms face Tower 1 rooms
This means that you can see straight into their rooms and they can see straight into yours, if you have the curtains open. Oh, and the thin veil like curtains block nothing. I could still see straight into anyone’s room if they only covered using that. Being on the 7^th floor means you’re higher than Tower 1, but Tower 1’s top floor can still see in to your room. A little creepy… unless you’re into that sort of thing.
OTHER COMMENTS
Vanity area is kinda small, but it’s detached from the bathroom, which is nice so that the mirror doesn’t get all foggy when you’re trying to shave after a shower.

The shuttle service, provided free, moved the hotel from a two star to a three star… The driver, Miller, was customer service to the 9! Took me to Walgreens and then wine shop ‚) opened my doors each time,)
Called before I came and spoke with the sales director, who seemed very helpful — but no luck finding her when I got here! Both receptionist seemed busy and annoyed… When I asked if I could get a glass of wine, she said no even though I was told by sales director they have lounge and although it yet open, it would be no problem to open and serve before 6pm (which is 7pm est).

What I can say — this is a Marriott. I was given a room with a king bed and a sofa. There is free wifi, but no free meals. This hotel is convenient for those visiting Vanderbilt, as the campus is only 2 blocks away (walkable distance).
You can tell in the hallways and the bathroom the hotel has seen better days. It’s a bit old and somewhat musty & dingy. If you are going to do the self-​parking, let the front desk know so that they can put you in a room in a building closest to the parking garage. I don’t know the fee because they didn’t charge me. [I don’t know what it is with the last three hotels not charging me the parking fee, but I am not complaining!]
Would I stay here again? Probably. It is convenient to where I need to be for work, and there are enough restaurants within the area to explore.
