History

Established in 1997.

In January of 1997, Jim Campanella officially opened Lawn Dawg in a small office space in Hudson, NH. From 1997 to 2008 they grew to one of the largest privately held lawn care services in the northeast.

In August of 2009 Jim partnered with a private investment group in an effort to grow Lawn Dawg throughout the northeast and beyond. Our core values have remained strong as our customer retention rates are far better than industry average and we have become a recognized leader in environmentally responsible lawn care. Since its inception, Lawn Dawg has grown to 11 branch locations serving over 25,000 residential customers.

Business Owner

As a graduate from Manchester High School in 1982, Jim immediately entered the work force as a lawn care technician for Old Fox Lawn Care in Mass. In 1989 he moved to Portland, ME to open a lawn care branch for Lawnmark. He was promoted to regional manager in 1993 and moved to Albany, N.Y., overseeing operations in upstate NY, Maine and Vermont. In 1995, after Lawnmark was purchased by Barefoot Grass, the company moved Jim to Nashua, N.H., and added Mass. and Connecticut to his existing region. At the end of 1996 Barefoot Grass sold to TruGreen prompting Jim to start Lawn Dawg.

Since 1997 Jim has been very active in the lawn care industry, as well as with charitable organizations. He served as President of the Massachusetts Association of Lawn Care Professionals in 2003, President of PLCAA in 2004, YMCA Director from 2002 – 2004, and President of the Rotary Club of Nashua West in ²⁰⁰⁶⁄₂₀₀₇. He is currently serving on the NALP board of directors and is a NALP Trailblazer.

I have been a lawn dawg customer for many years. After seeing how good my lawn looks, a number of my neighbors started using them too. I like the detailed reports they leave, and suggestions. There is never a high pressure sales job. Price stays the same as the first year you contract and renewal is easy. Only negative was the one year I ordered overseeding — too much seed scattered into garden beds resulting in weeding.

OK, their service got pretty bad. We cancelled but were talked into another year. It was not better. So we cancelled again. This time they offered to provide the service for FREE the next year. Then something happened. What a difference. For the last 4 years at least their service has been exceptional. I wouldn’t even think of changing now.

We have used Lawn Dawg for a number of years. Lawn always looks great, never had a problem with customer service. If you compare the pricing to buying the product and applying it yourself you’ll find they are very close to that cost. It is well worth it to have their service. Thank you Lawn Dawg!

I used Lawn Dog for one season. My lawn never looked worse and I felt that the service trips they doing bare minimum.
When I asked for my remaining account balance they fought tooth and nail to return it. My advice to anyone doing lawn service is even when they ask to prepay and tell you that you will save 10% don’t listen. The number is inflated to begin with and you don’t save anything.

This is now my second try as a lawn dawg customer (shame on me.) My first go around i was home everytime they would treat my yard (per my request) and i would watch the rep do the majority of my yard but not all of it by any means. On multiple occassions they couldnt be bothered to close my gate behind them (which is closed when they arrive), resulting in my pets escaping my yard and taking off. I was unhappy with their lack of attention to detail as well as the «minimal job» that was done. I was promised after leaving that these issues would be addressed and service would be better. Well today not only one gate was left open– two. Wide open. Leaving my pets to roam the city freely. I asked one thing — leave my gate as it was when you arrived. If one request can be ignored repeatedly… I can only imagine what other corners are cut.

Once you get a to a certain age, weird things start to matter to you. You start noticing things you never really thought about before. Last spring, middle age set in in our household. We went outside after that winter that never seemed to end and — instead of reveling in spring — looked around and thought, «The lawn. The lawn looks like crap.»
It was a mess — more weed than grass, with pathetic bare patches all over the place. The dandelions were just depressing. Obviously our intensive strategy of mowing it down to nothing every few weeks and hoping for the best was not working. Our black thumbs were holding us back.
So after a little research, we decided to call Lawn Dawg and find out if there was any hope for us. It was the best decision we could have made. We now have a real lawn, full of thick green grass. We no longer have to feel like the scumbags of the neighborhood.
We love Lawn Dawg now. Beyond our beautiful lawn, a few of the pros are:
— They are a local company
— They use natural products
— After each treatment, we get personalized feedaback on the lawn and recommendations on how to water and mow
— Optional treatments are recommended but aren’t forced on you. In our experience, the treatments we’ve opted for (bug control, winterizing, overseeding) were well worth it.
— The seasonal email newsletters we receive are actually informative and personal, rather than marketing fluff
— NO SPAM. We don’t get endless emails and phone calls from them (unlike other «Tru“ly annoying lawn companies, ahem)
Bottom line, if your lawn looks like crap, don’t lose hope. Lawn Dawg can help.
