I got the name of this company from an online bulletin board through work and figured I would give them a try. This was my first time using movers, so I did not know what to expect. It took many repeated phone calls to get a confirmation as to whether he could do the job or not – I was looking for the job to get done on a Sunday which was my first mistake as movers typically don’t work on Sundays. Finally I got a brief confirmatory email with a quote(which I felt was a reasonable number), number of guys for the job, and estimated time of arrival. The email did not indicate that this was a cash only operation. The movers arrived at approximately the stated time. I was underwhelmed at how slow the process was given that there were 3 guys on this job – they worked VERY inefficiently. I was blown away when John happened to mention in passing that«I only accept cash». Again, there was nothing in his email to me stating he was a cash only business(which is a big red flag right there). When I replied that I did not know and I had planned to pay with a check he requested that I go to the ATM and that he had a cash only policy. He refused to accept responsibility for not telling me his policy. I said I would go to the ATM at the end of the job, but I cautioned him that there often is a limit on the amount of cash you can draw from an ATM in one day – he told me his sister is a «big boss» at Bank of America and he has an account that he can take up to 10k(from an ATM) out of no problem(yeah right buddy). I went to the ATM and low and behold the amount I needed to take out exceeded the daily limit that could be taken out. After trying 3 times my account was frozen d/t the suspicious nature of the withdrawal attempts, and this was a Sunday, so I couldn’t go inside to a teller. I went back a apologetically told him what happened and that all I could give him was a check. He gave me a very hard time and told me again of his cash only policy and how he has gotten so many bad checks and that he was still waiting on a check from the president of Aveda Salon… blah, blah, blah(bs., bs., bs.). Luckily my stuff was loaded into a PODS container and NOT their unmarked truck(another red flag) otherwise who knows what would have happened. I was so relieved when they just left. He had the audacity to ask if I needed his services to move to my new apartment – I respectfully declined. These guys do poor business, and a poor job – my walls were gouged and my furniture was banged up. I did have MUCH better luck with Gentle Giant moving company – their rate was comparable to that of John Roberts AND they are an actual moving company with official uniforms, contracts and official emails outlining their policies – they take, cash, check, credit. Two guys from this company completed the job in a timely/efficient fashion on a sweltering Summer day. They were professional the whole time and I was very pleased.
